The Fearless Friday Forecast

I don’t know about you, but I could sure use a break from the Cameron Newton story. So back by popular demand (okay, two guys asked about it) is the Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Duke at Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech (5-5) needs this one to become bowl eligible with a trip to Georgia coming up next week. The Tech defense had better get some pressure on Duke QB Sean Renfree or this one could be a problem for the Jackets. Georgia Tech 31, Duke 24.

2. Troy at South Carolina: The Gamecocks have already clinched a spot in the SEC championship game and may look a little sloppy in this one. South Carolina 28, Troy 14.

3. Appalachian State at Florida: It will be senior day at Florida but I wonder how excited the Gators (6-4) will be against the Mountaineers (9-1)? Jerry Moore’s team was ranked No. 1 in Division I-AA until they lost their only game to Georgia Southern. Florida 24, Appalachian State 17.

4. Virginia Tech at Miami: Miami is on a little run behind freshman quarterback Stephen Morris. That comes to an end against the Hokies, who clinch the ACC Coastal. Virginia Tech 28, Miami 10.

5. Florida State at Maryland: The Terps have Florida State at home this week and N.C. State at home next week. Win them both and they clinch the ACC Atlantic. I’m picking the Fridge. Maryland 17, Florida State 16.

6. Ole Miss at LSU: Last year was the low water mark for Les Miles as clock mismanagement was all anybody remembered about a 25-23 loss to the Rebels in Oxford. There will be no such issues this time. LSU 35, Ole Miss 10.

7. Arkansas at Mississippi State; Arkansas could be caught looking ahead to a big game with LSU next week. But Ryan Mallett and the Razorback offense is just too good. Arkansas 31 Miss. State 21.

8. Tennessee at Vanderbilt: Tennessee (4-6) can go to a bowl by beating Vandy this week and Kentucky next week. The Vols have beaten the Commodores 26 out of the last 27 meetings. Tennessee 31, Vanderbilt 14.

9. Ohio State at Iowa: Iowa is supposed to go in the tank after losing to Northwestern last week. I just get the feeling that the Hawkeyes have a big game left in them. This week’s Upset Special: Iowa 17, Ohio State 14.

10. Nebraska at Texas A&M: The Aggies (7-3) have won four straight. Three of those have come with a new quarterback in Ryan Tannehill. Another Upset Special: Texas A&M 21, Nebraska 20.

Tony, leading your column with a bogus and already-debunked TMZ “report” yesterday was one of the worst and dumbest things you’ve ever done. Shame on you for not bothering to do any actual reporting and taking the “word” of a gossip site seriously, and repeating it as it if were fact. You should–and you do–know better.

How is this ever going to get swept under the rug if everyone keeps talking about it?

Could be several upsets this weekend. I could see Tech getting beat, UF getting beat, SC getting beat, Virginia Tech getting beat, etc. Hope I’m wrong about the Gators but let’s face it, the season is a wash. All they have left to play for is possible bragging rights over the Noles next week. Sigh……

What they have to play for is next year. This could be a very important game for that reason alone.

Mr. Football,
I agree but it’s the players that have to have that mindset…….not the fans. Did not look too inspired last week when they did have something left to play for THIS season.

Groh needs to dial up some blitzes early and often. Load the box and come from every angle. Put Renfree on his can 2 out of every 3 plays in the first quarter. If we lay back and play “bend-don’t-break” defense, it will be another long and embarrassing day on the Flats.

Jackets stomp the Dukies and then stomp the hated and red neck Dawgs asses in front of 80,000 laying down and puking Wal Mart attire wearing, snuff dipping, tobacco chewing “fans”. The most prominent graduate from THUGA was and will always be Junion Samples. Jackets–kick their sorry red neck asses.

2010 has not been a very good year for football. Top tier teams are all down this season. This will be remembered as a year in which mediocrity passed itself off as excellence. It happens sometimes. It happened in 1984.

Oh well… There’s always next year.

Cam is only a small part of the issue at Auburn. When this thing ends in about 2 months your jaws will drop. Cam will play the rest of the year but again he’s just a sideshow for the real problems Auburn has due to the SOS bunch of jock sniffers that run that program and have for years. Auburn folks get up each day trying to catch Alabama but go to bed just being Auburn…again. The 2009 NC for Bama and the 2008 success just sent these boosters over the hill and they got caught by accident due by the FBI probe into the gambling and the tarp fund loss at Colonial. Tony is correct in that you need to get something new to talk about now but in the end you will have much to discuss. I don’t think you have many colleges where the jock sniffers boosters run the school but Auburn is and always has been the exception.

JB

If Tech does not beat Duke, the Honeymoon for Johnson will “officially” over. That team has little talent and no depth and no help coming. Yes, Tech always recruits a plum or two, but two deep on the the OL and DL they ain’t. No wide receivers on the roster to speak of. And next year, A new QB, none of which were recruited by hardly anyone. Not bashing, just facts. My Bulldogs have problems also…

Now that we survived GEORGIA STATE (still can’t believe that game was scheduled), time for the big one.

No disrepect to Bill Curry, as a coach or a person….but there are high school teams in this area who I really believe would have played as well…..Hoover comes to mind.

Maybe in 2019, when the Auburn investigation is winding down, the NCCA will legislate a “pick on your own size” rule.

It would be nice if we could put this NCAA investigation behind us sooner, rather than later.

Unfortunately, a fair and thorough investigation takes time. It takes too much time to close the case before this season ends. We’ll just have to sit back and let it play out — we have no choice.

Usually, I think Ole Miss has a good chance with LSU. Not this year. LSU is peaking at the right time, and nothing the Right Reverend Nutt has done this year has worked.

Also….I think Nutt may have pooped (can you say that?) in his nest going forward. If I’m an Ole Miss player (or prospect), I’d look with a jaundiced eye at a coach who would bring in a convicted player in the summer, and start him over guys who had worked all year.

But then….we are family…..right Coach Nutt?

3rdn8, that game was good for both sides. Walk-ons and other kids that would otherwise never see the field for Bama got to play, including the Bryant Scholarship recipient while the key players stayed fresh for the Iron Bowl. GSU got a paycheck that they desperately need to build their program and those kids get to tell their grandchildren about the time they went into BDS and played the defending national champs.

It’s great for the SC fans that Spurrier has a shot at winning their first SEC Championship. South Carolina is without doubt the best team in the SEC East, and they might pull off the upset, but they aren’t the second best team in the SEC this year. They out-played Bama straight up, but based on their entire body of work, they would be ranked Number 5 if they were in the SEC West Division.

TB givin some love to Troy and Appy State. Not enough love to pull the actual upset, but I like the scores on both of these. Wouldn’t it be neat if Florida went down to Troy?
