It’s Tuesday, we’re tired of talking about Cam Newton, and the new BCS standings are out. So let’s update our projections.
BCS Championship: No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Auburn.
Update: Just about every team that plays for the BCS national championship dodges at least one bullet along the way. For Oregon that was last Saturday night against California. Cal missed a 29-yard field goal that would have given the Bears the lead. Auburn (11-0) still has to win at Alabama and has to beat South Carolina for the second time this season when they meet in the SEC championship game on Dec. 4.
Rose: Wisconsin vs. Boise State.
Update: If Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State all finish at 11-1 the tiebreaker will go to the highest ranked team in the BCS Standings. That will be Wisconsin after the Badgers hung 83 on Indiana last Saturday. Boise State (9-0) still has three games left (Fresno State, Nevada, Utah State) but if the Broncos win out I beleive they will jump over TCU (which has one game left with 1-9 New Mexico) into the No. 3 spot. If Oregon goes to the big game, the Rose has to take Boise.
Sugar: LSU vs. Ohio State.
Update: LSU has to beat Ole Miss on Saturday, which it will do. But then the Tigers have a very interesting trip to Little Rock to face Arkansas on Nov. 27. Win both games and the Tigers are close to a lock for New Orleans if Auburn is in the big game. The Sugar will look at 12-0 TCU but I believe they will pass and take 11-1 Ohio State for the television ratings.
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. TCU.
Update: If the Sugar takes Ohio State, the Orange will basically have a choice between undefeated TCU and 11-1 Stanford. Michigan State can’t go at 11-1 because two Big Ten teams have already been picked. A two-loss SEC team can’t go because two SEC teams have been chosen.
Fiesta: Nebraska vs. West Virginia.
Update: The Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ and right now I’m leaning towards Nebraska. The Big East champions gets an automatic bid regardless of its record or ranking and so the Fiesta is praying that West Virginia wins that league. Looks like it will come down to the Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh (5-4) and West Virginia (6-3) on Nov. 26. With West Virginia on the other side the Fiesta has a chance to sell some tickets. Don’t forget South Florida (6-3) which controls its destiny in the Big East.
Stanford (9-1) has games remaining with Oregon State and California. The Cardinal could finish 11-1 and be left out of the BCS unless Auburn stumbles down the stretch. Because if Auburn loses and either Boise or TCU moves into the BCS championship game, the Rose doesn’t have to take a non-automatic qualifier. The Rose would then be free to take Stanford to play Wisconsin, which is the game they want if Oregon is not available.
Any questions?

@Realistic Fan,
And in a year or two, when the NCAA finally gets around to it, we will have the Tigers/Plainsmen/War Eagles (pick one) singing the blues, while Scam and Cheap Shot Fairley will have long since moved on. So you guys won for the first time in 5 years against the Dogs. So what? It was about time.
Why is it that whenever you guys have a good team, there is usually some sort of probation invovled?

Injuring McElroy is not a viable game-plan for Auburn. Alabama is not a one-man team. They have at least two backup quarterbacks who could beat Auburn. I don’t think that Fairley can manage to take them all out of the game.
Alabama is down this year after losing so much talent from last year’s squad, but a down Bama team is still too much for the best team that Auburn can buy.

Let’s not make Nick mad.
I watched the replay of the AU-UGA game last night. The dirty play from AU was not as bad as it seemed on Saturday.
In fact, there were only three plays that Fairley should have either been flagged, or ejected; (a) grinding his cage into Murray’s face (no flag), (b) Very (make that VERY) late hit on Murray, plus spearing. (He was flagged on this play, but still think an ejection was appropriate. (c) shot at Murray’s knee late in the game (No flag, but he should have been ejected anyway (see “b” above).
I’m not sure what the SEC’s response to all of this is. I’m not sure if the refs will call it closer in Bryant-Denny.
I am sure we have to play this beast in ten days, so our OL had better grow some big ones.

No doubt Bama will have it’s hands full with Auburn. But Auburn –to explain it the way they would– “aint that good on the road” And that’s true. The AU road games have been at Ms State, Ole Miss, and Kaintucky –all tiny, cute stadium environments of about 55k fans who assume their team will lose. It’s obvious that there’s one Auburn fan with no life and no job who’s posting on these blogs. Here you go Auburn fan, I’ll explain it to you because I know you’re too dumb to figure this out on your own. Fairley’s late hits> where he lifts the quarterback’s legs out from under him and drives him into the ground is some of the dirtiest football I’ve ever seen played. Newsflash: It ain’t hard to do what Fairley is doing> Fairley thinks he’s found some new thing, which is to late the quarterback and try in injure him. Thing is, geniuses, no other defender in college football player does that. Why? Because those guys tend to respect one another, a fellow football player, and really don’t want to see anyone hurt. And also b/c what comes around goes around, the unwritten rule. You just don’t see players trying to hurt each other. What is remarkable, in Fairley’s case, Auburn fans and this moron think he’s doing something special. It’s so easy for any defender to hit a quarterback late and take their legs out and drive him into the ground. Why don’t they just do that all the time? Like I’ve already said, you just don’t see players do that. Players generally respect each other too much to do that. Fairley is a raging idiot, and other defenders in the league just look at him and shake their heads. So just to clue you in, Auburn fan, your player is dirty and he’s not doing anything extraordinary. Just b/c he knows how to body splash a redshirt freshman quarterback on a late hit is nothing special. Dawgfans know this. And, I’ll tell you, that we as fans would not put up with a player like that. Georgia football isn’t played that way. We’ve had some great defensive players, Pollack, Greg Blue, Thomas Davis, some of the meanest players you’ll ever watch. But did they ever do what this idiot does? No. They were dominant players and didn’t have to stoop that low to get a reaction. Your player does it and you morons just cheer on. It’s nothing special. It’s nothing new. It’s not hard to do. Get over yourselves. Fairley will get his one day, and when he does, he deserves it. And, I hope it’s in the Bama game coming up. ROLL TIDE

Did you hear the 4th worst team in College Football that beat us is interested in hiring me for a job? I’m thinking they want me to just end their football program for good so they can save money and just go skiing. I’m wondering if the kids will like Colorado.

Guys the SEC is not going to suspend Fairley. If it were going to happen it would have happened by now. The only truly bushleague dirty hit was the spear to the back of Murray which could have harmed both of them. He was penalized in the game. If the SEC wanted to suspend him from the Iron bowl it would have happened already.

Thanks rokdawg, like plenty of others, including the SEC people, I’m convinced that young Mr. Newton and his Daddy took money from Auburn. The only thing is that my sources tell me that Bobby Louder has decided to ‘lay low’ for a while, so what we needed was another well-healed and ethically-challenged AU alum to have done the deed. Now we have him.
Sorry AU fans but surely with all the crap that’s been in the fan these past couple of weeks you don’t really think it’s all just a big lie just to keep you from enjoying your ill-gotten gains, do you? The truth is out there and nobody’s interested in keeping it from coming out…not the SEC…not the NCAA…and not any other program that would appreciate something of a level playing field.
Now tell me, how ironic it’ll be to find out that the money that paid off the Newtons came from a ‘dawg track’?

SEC probably thought AU got enough punishment for the two kids not playing the first half…and they dont want to weaken what could be a good game in Tuska..I honestly don’t believe bama can keep up with our offense…don’t compare what you did against miss st or some of these other schools…our defensive scheme against the run plays a huge hand against bama’s running style…only threat will be against the pass and jones..but thats nothing new we have been dealing with that all year…it will be a high scoring affair but if bama can’t put 50 up on us..its ball game. I will say the game being at bama does help them..but it isn’t the be all end all..especially the way auburn has won games all year ie tight close affairs…

Auburn’s decision to onside kick was creative, and turned the game. They may have won anyway, but that definately turned the momentum. They did, however, fumble the ball prior to crossing the goal line, at the end of the game. I cannot understand why re-play officials could not see this. And Fairley should have been ejected for his dirty spear, as well as grinding his facemask into Murray. I know the Auburn fans may not like this, but his play went way beyond dirty. Question: If Walsh has drop kicked Fairly in the gonads, would Auburn fans be alright with a 15 yard penalty?

Now all the Bammers and Dawgs want big bad Fairley suspended? Give me a freaking break. What about all the chop blocks for UGA, what about 33 players leaving the sideline during the fight when we had zero leave the bench? Tony Barnhardt will not write about this because we are the evil empire right now so that wouldn’t sell. I agree it was a bush league hit but we got a 15 yard penalty. I am actually amazed UGA fans are still talking about this but I do understand it is better than talking about the actual game. While I am disgusted by Auburn and their behavior on and off the field I am shocked the BCS has them at number 2. Think about who Auburn has played and who Oregon has played. If Fairley was playing in the NFL his wallet would be lighter and he would be suspended (all the NFL analyst agreed on that last night on Sportscenter). He plays in the SEC on a team with questionable scrupples to begin with. I was a little surprised Gene didn’t pull him out for a play and have a chat with him about what 15 yard penalties do like every other coach. Leadership comes from the top. Auburn has a winner, but this coach will cost them dearly when the NCAA is done. I have never seen this much bad press about a school in a long time.

Bammer loses for the third time in the Iron Bowl, then loses their bowl game to stay true to Saban’s tradition of following a championship year with a four-loss season.

Charlie Bama, Alabama still has a chance for a BCS bid. If they beat Auburn and LSU loses to Ole Miss or Ark, then the Tide would have the edge over LSU and Arkansas if all end up at 10-2. If this holds it would not matter what happens in the SECCG. If Auburn wins they would go to the Sugar while Bama goes to the Orange. If SC wins they would go to the Sugar, Auburn to the Capital One and Bama to Miami.
And yes Murphy LSU could lose to Arkansas, IF, they don’t play like they are capable of. I like the Tigers’ chances against Mallet much more so than against Newton. This is not to take anything away from the Hogs as they are a very good team and we will have our hands full.

If the FBI’s involved in the Cam Newton investigation, the truth ought to come out. Unlike the NCAA, the FBI has the power to trace bank records. If money did change hands, it shouldn’t be hard to trace (1) how much money, (2) to whom, (3) from whom. MURPH—-I watched enough of the Florida-South Carolina to know that Lattimore kid is a gamer. He’s not flashy, but he racked up 200+ yards against a talented young Gators defense. With Lattimore taking the pressure off, Spurrier can toss the rock with the passing game that he couldn’t rely on Garcia to do when Garcia was carrying the load.
Like I said last week, never bet against the Evil Genius in a “pride game.” And his return to the SEC Championship Game with his new team, leading a fan nation of perennial also-rans (much as the Gators were 20 years ago), is the ultimate pride game. If he gets it done in Atlanta, everyone who discounted Spurrier’s ability as a coach should send him a personal letter of congratulations and apology.

The Moment Cecil Newton asked for Money and He has admitted so, Cam Newton became Ineligeable to Play in the NCAA according to the rule book Even If Cam Did not have prior Knowledge. Read the rule book and what Cecil Admitted to with Officials. Auburn should have Gotten him reinstated before playing Him this season. Probation again for Auburn. Hope they did not pay money for Him also or they will be the Joke of the SEC.

It’s Tuesday and I am NOT tired of talking about Cam Newton. Trooper Taylor is a name that I keep hearing everywhere! He is supposedly the go between for Auburn and Cam, Sr. I have knowledge of the situation and I think that Auburn will be in major trouble for playing Cam last Saturday. They blatantly broke the rules and the NCAA will not be merciful when all of the facts are known. Trooper Taylor is going to make Eric Ramsey look like a saint for Auburn fans and I think Auburn will suffer the most dire consequences since SMU.

I know Atlanta is all about SEC football, but face it the SEC is having a down year. So what if TCU and Boise State are non AQs, the ACC and the Big East get automatic bids and both of those conferences are ranked worse than the Mountain West and the WAC. The number one defense against the number one offense would make a great title game despite all of the “TCU is a pretender arguments”. Anyone of the SEC teams would be lucky to have a defense like TCU despite the 35 points allowed by San Diego State. Notice how the offensive line coach’s heart attack during the first quarter wasn’t discussed, or how the fact that a number of the starters didn’t play due to injuries or the fact that TCU is just now on a by week. Sorry that UGA sucks this year but seriously give other teams a chance.

Too bad Trooper didnt recruit Cam, Malzahn and Luper did. You’re about as close to the situation as you are a new years day bowl. The FBI is involved because at least 7 schools are involved and there trying to figure out guys like Rogers offering cash for guys. Once again, the ncaa doesnt tell you who to play, they still you who to sit. Since July they have not recommended AU to sit Newton. If they have we would have, trust me. After Bond’s interview today, you’ll hear a little bit more info and the whole story could be out as early as wed but i expect between fri and next mon. Depending on how the ncaa translate this situation because of all the gray areas, no one really is for sure what will happen. With that said, all i’ve been able to come up with some percentages based on info from people close to the situation. 80% nothing comes out of it, 10% Cam has to sit and wins still count, 10% Cam sits, wins vacated. I could be wrong but i can only go on what info i do have…We’ll see

Where do you guys get the “Cecil Newton admitted asking for money” crap? Another unnamed source heard from yet another unnamed source that Cecil said that. Same as the totally disproven claims of academic troubles at Florida, it’s all bogus. Check yesterday’s Houston Chronicle article by Joseph Duarte if you might be interested in truth, which I doubt you are. This story has actual, you know SOURCES that state their names and position titles, unlike all the anonymous liars. Link: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/college/7294741.html
Here’s part:
“Before Newton could enroll at Blinn, however, Franchione and school officials conducted their own inquiry into the situation at Florida.
“We have a (National Junior College Athletic Association) policy that you can’t take a student-athlete that is not eligible to go back to the institution he was at,” Rehr said. “So, upon him leaving Florida, he was still in good standing as a student, and he was still in good standing with the (football) program.”
As for Lattimore running all over Auburn, he won’t be running on the limp Dawg defense. Two weeks after Lattimore junked the Dawgs Auburn held him to 33 yards on 16 carries. Almost identical to the beatdown Auburn laid on last year’s Heisman winner in the Iron Bowl.
Cam gets the Heisman, Auburn goes straight ahead to a 14-0 Championship year and Dawgs and bamzos fight over the Birmingham bowl, if Dawgs can beat Tech.

Hey Tony….I think your predictions are pretty solid but it’s sad a team as good as Stanford gets left out or even Michigan St and a team like West Va or Pitt get in. Your pick of Ohio St also assumes they beat Iowa. I know the Hawkeyes have stubbed their toe a couple times but Iowa is still a good team and they are at home.
I do have a question…..I heard reports this morning that if Auburn were to lose to Alabama & S. Carolina that LSU would go to the National Title game. Can that really happen? Remember in 2007 that UGA and USC were the two hottest teams in College football and everyone argued Georgia couldn’t go to the title game because they didn’t even make their conference championship game. Well I ask you, What is different with LSU because they aren’t going to the conference championship game either.

Auburn doesn’t qualify for the NCAA “Death Penalty”. They do, however qualify for various other sanctions, including scholarship reductions, bowl bans and suspension from television. In addition, they stand to forfeit all wins accrued while playing an ineligible athlete.

Chris, I doubt if Auburn lost to Bama and SC that LSU would go to the national title game. LSU is tied for 3rd in the computer polls currently but the pollsters would not jump them over TCU and or Boise St. Thus the human polls portion of the BCS formula, or two-thirds, would keep them out.
LSU hasn’t finshed 11-1 yet so it’s all premature.

Auburn would have had to have been on probation for NCAA infractions within the past five years in order to qualify for the “Death Penalty”. Tubby used questionable tactics to put together his 2004 squad, but they failed to achieve the desired goal and the NCAA was content to sweep that unsightly mess under the rug. Auburn won’t be so fortunate this time.

When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

As for where the quote from Preacher Newton came from – the one where he admitted having solicited money from Miss State but that nobody knew about it but him – that was from WSB-TV reporter Mark Winne (sp?) – an Auburn grad if I’m not mistaken. He got it directly from the old man hisself. That the JC in Texas said the kid was still ‘in good standing’ at Florida has got to be joke. Even urban wouldn’t have taken him back…the cheating, the traffic violation (thirteen in all for which he was never disciplined) and the ‘receipt of stolen property’ and ‘attempting to destroy evidence’ (throwing it out the window when they came to question him about it) lap-top thing, for some strange reason they gave him a ‘diversion program’ and a voluntary withdrawal from Florida in lieu of a guilty plea. The kid’s entire existence has been one of a superior athlete that thinks, because of that ability, is entitled to get away with any kind of bad behavior. Well it’s gonna catch up with him and Auburn before you know it and it won’t be pretty.
As for Auburn ‘not ‘qualifying’ for the ‘death penalty’…given that they are the only program that comes to mind that has had to miss out on two national championships due to being on probation, that would seem to ‘quality’ them in the same way they claim Cam Newton has been ‘eligible’ all season. I mean, what in hell does the NCAA need beyond blatant lying and deceit when it comes to this sorry episode to wave the ‘death penalty’ in their face – if for no other reason to get them to come clean and kick coach cheeze-it, the AD and the Prez out I mean, it’s not as if they haven’t done crap before that cost the top guys their jobs.

“The NCAA “Death Penalty” is a specific sanction that must be applied under specific circumstances. Auburn does not currently qualify for the NCAA Death Penalty.”
Specific santions under specific circumstances? Really? Wow, I did not know that. You mean there has to be specific circumstances needed to apply a specific sanction? Well, that explains everything. No more questions.

PAC 10 faithful, you’re right. It’s not fair to compare the 10 member Pac 10 to the 12 member SEC (the fact the Auburn is going to have to play an extra game aside….)
So lets add Utah and Colorado to the Pac 10 this year….

When will UGA hire a real man to coach their team? My guess is Richt is afraid Chizik would have whooped his ass. He should have challenged him at midfield after the game. At the very least that idiot Grantham should have done something. UGA plays like a bunch of cowards. Please dont make the SEC look bad by getting woodshedded by the geeks from Tech. Well my observation is that what AU is doing is actually a well thought-out crime. They hire a coach out of nowhere with a terrible record. That’s OK, they don’t need a household name to run this particular scam, just a yes-man who’s happy to be there. Enter Chizik. They secure former NCAA officials in the front office to handle improper allegations. They go after Cam Newton when everybody else in the conference is treating him like a hot potato. Even Miss. State said “No, no, we don’t want to hear that,” when Cam’s dad informs them that it’s “not going to free like before.” And that tells me that UF didn’t initially pay them, which is surprising. And, Cam’s father has a tax shelter in the church he runs. Anyone can make a $180,000 donation under and anonymous name. This looks like the perfect scenario for a school like Auburn to pay to play. This thing stinks to high heaven.

You are left with a brutish tackle who enjoys driving a quarterback(100 pds lighter) down with his helmet into the dirt. “What a man”. Or hitting him in the back of his helmet.clearly after the ball has been thrown. “What a man” I hope he(fairley) gets his ass handed to him by Alabama. We would be indebted to you Tide.

Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been called a “dirty player” since the Tigers’ 49-31 win over Georgia Saturday. Fairley was called for roughing the passer in the first quarter, and later knocked the Bulldogs’ quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after being blocked into the freshman’s leg.
After looking more closely at the game film, if Fairley is “dirty”, Georgia center Ben Jones may be the SEC’s version of “Pigpen”. Jones, a junior from Centerville, Ala., has already been suspended this season for an illegal block against Mississippi State. Jones illegally clipped a State defender in Georgia’s 24-12 loss to MSU.
“It was a pass downfield,” Jones reportedly said of the play against State. “I was just trailing the play because I didn’t know if the ball was caught yet. I just went to cut the guy downfield, just because I thought he might make the play because the ball was still up. When I cut him, they said it was too far behind the play, so I shouldn’t have done it.”
Jones attempted to do a similar thing against Fairley Saturday night in Auburn. Midway through the second quarter, Jones was jogging towards the Georgia sideline, towards the ball carrier that took the handoff around left end. Fairley was jogging behind Jones when Jones appeared to catch a glimpse of Fairley. Jones suddenly turned around and dove for Fairley’s legs. Fairley, who was jogging behind Jones at the time, dodged Jones’ attempt, leaping over the Georgia center.
Late in the game, Jones, with Fairley lying on the ground after making a tackle, fell onto Fairley and appeared to try and gouge Fairley’s eyes. The incident sparked a scuffle between the two teams, which led to the ejection of Auburn defensive end Michael Goggans.
Auburn defensive tackle Mike Blanc was ejected on the next play. Both Tiger defenders threw a punch and will serve a half-game suspension as a result. During the fight, the Georgia sideline was nearly empty. According to SEC rules, it is a one-game suspension for leaving the bench during a fight. As of Tuesday, no Georgia players had received a suspension, but according to the film, they should.

You lost to a team having a great run, but the silver lining is things look promising for the Dogs next year. If Auburn/Cam Newton/AU boosters have done something wrong, it’ll be discovered and they’ll be punished appropriately, and deservedly so. If not, then they’ll all breathe a sigh of relief.
In the meantime, stop your pouting, man up and admit the better team won, then go get ready for the Jackets.

I liked the earlier joke that was posted about Alabama playing a professional team.
You see, that one was funny because it had topical content that was fresh. It truly hasn’t been very long since people in sports media were discussing whether the Crimson Tide could compete with a professional team. Of course, they’ve since lost, which makes the original idea seem absurd. And then the punch line makes reference to the current pay-for-play scandal at Auburn. And so it completes the circle of references to current events.
That’s why it’s funny. One doesn’t expect the two, separate events to be tied together in that way.
Your joke seems to be more of a straightforward insult. Some folks probably enjoy insult humor. To each his own, I always say. I thought the other joke was better.

Georgia has been a highly penalized team over the past 3 years. Many speculate that officials have been more strict with the Georgia team in retaliation for the Florida field dancing incident of 2007. I don’t know if that’s true. Georgia has also had many other, off the field disciplinary issues in that same time frame.
Nick Fairley has been involved in some unsportsmanlike hits on quarterbacks. Even Auburn fans can’t deny that. They merely quibble over the actual extent of the behavior and whether “everyone else does it”. One (possibly two) of those unsportsmanlike hits occurred against Georgia, but it does no good for the fans to complain after the fact — especially since they lost the game. That game is over. There’s always next year.

The $cam newton thing is about to get even uglier.
Aubies better brace themselves.
1993- undefeated and on probation
2004- undefeated and cant play in the title game- not invited.
2010- undefeated and the wins will be vacated due to an ineligible player.
Make jokes about UGA if you want to but when the laughing stops reality will set in.
Hammer time.

I hope Auburn & LSU lose one or more games between now and December!
It would be good for college football in the long run IF somehow/someway TCU & Boise State play in the NC game this season………this outcome would expedite the path to an 8 team playoff system!!!!!!!!!!
How much better will college football be with a true 8 team playoff at the end of the season????

I don’t see a single elimination playoff scheme as a panacea, but should any playoff scheme be instituted, it should not have any guaranteed ties to any conference. Conference playoffs don’t always pit the two best teams against one another as it now stands. The Big East and the ACC both proved this year that past performance is no guarantee of future success. I can envision many problems with possible playoff scenarios that would make CFB fans long for the “good old days” of the BCS.

If any Alabama fan thinks that Nick “Badly” will not go after their quarterback, please wake up. The SEC has basicly said that he has the right to take any quarterback out… **get this**…. including yours……. You better get him or risk losing the quarterback and the game. Hopefully, Bama will win, but if you loss and you lose your quarterback… we’ll see who the B1tch is **BamaGal**!

WOW! That 49-31 whuppin’ sure did hurt some DullDawgs. Never mind wishing bammer will take our QB out. Anybody that plays bammer has to watch for that, they’ve specialized in injuring QB’s since Bryant was there. How do you think they won the BCS game last year? Colt McCoy was killing them before they injured him.
Don’t worry about a short season. Auburn is clean as a whistle in all this. MSU offered some money, Cecil Newton said “My son is NOT a rented mule. He’s going to Auburn.” And that’s that. Maybe those MSU boosters that “approached with an offer” got their school in trouble, maybe not. I’ll leave that up to the NCAA and FBI. This is fun, but not as much fun as beating UGA and LSU was and beating bammer will be.

If the season were to end today, in a BCS Playoff System:
1. Oregon vs. 16. Virginia Tech
2. Auburn vs. 15. Missouri
3. TCU vs. 14. Oklahoma
4. Boise State vs. 13. Arkansas
5. LSU vs. 12. Michigan State
6. Stanford vs. 11. Alabama
7. Wisconsin vs. 10. Oklahoma State
8. Nebraska vs. 9. Ohio State
— how epic would these games be!! Play these games the week after conference championsips. Losers go back into the pile for normal bowl game selection criteria.
Winners advance to the next week. 1 vs 8, and so on. Losers again go back into standard bowl game selection.
I’m sorry but the current BCS means that I really don’t care about the teams ranked about 10th and lower, since they don’t have a shot. In this system, you could go into week 10 and 11 down in the 20s but still have a chance to get to the big dance by winning and hoping for some other losses.
BCS talk like this is what fuels the current system though they say….
Either way, I will never recognize Boise State or TCU if they don’t play with the big boys. This playoff system assures us that “BCS busters” have to play several big boys to make it and earn a title.
