It’s Tuesday, we’re tired of talking about Cam Newton, and the new BCS standings are out. So let’s update our projections.
BCS Championship: No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Auburn.
Update: Just about every team that plays for the BCS national championship dodges at least one bullet along the way. For Oregon that was last Saturday night against California. Cal missed a 29-yard field goal that would have given the Bears the lead. Auburn (11-0) still has to win at Alabama and has to beat South Carolina for the second time this season when they meet in the SEC championship game on Dec. 4.
Rose: Wisconsin vs. Boise State.
Update: If Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State all finish at 11-1 the tiebreaker will go to the highest ranked team in the BCS Standings. That will be Wisconsin after the Badgers hung 83 on Indiana last Saturday. Boise State (9-0) still has three games left (Fresno State, Nevada, Utah State) but if the Broncos win out I beleive they will jump over TCU (which has one game left with 1-9 New Mexico) into the No. 3 spot. If Oregon goes to the big game, the Rose has to take Boise.
Sugar: LSU vs. Ohio State.
Update: LSU has to beat Ole Miss on Saturday, which it will do. But then the Tigers have a very interesting trip to Little Rock to face Arkansas on Nov. 27. Win both games and the Tigers are close to a lock for New Orleans if Auburn is in the big game. The Sugar will look at 12-0 TCU but I believe they will pass and take 11-1 Ohio State for the television ratings.
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. TCU.
Update: If the Sugar takes Ohio State, the Orange will basically have a choice between undefeated TCU and 11-1 Stanford. Michigan State can’t go at 11-1 because two Big Ten teams have already been picked. A two-loss SEC team can’t go because two SEC teams have been chosen.
Fiesta: Nebraska vs. West Virginia.
Update: The Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ and right now I’m leaning towards Nebraska. The Big East champions gets an automatic bid regardless of its record or ranking and so the Fiesta is praying that West Virginia wins that league. Looks like it will come down to the Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh (5-4) and West Virginia (6-3) on Nov. 26. With West Virginia on the other side the Fiesta has a chance to sell some tickets. Don’t forget South Florida (6-3) which controls its destiny in the Big East.
Stanford (9-1) has games remaining with Oregon State and California. The Cardinal could finish 11-1 and be left out of the BCS unless Auburn stumbles down the stretch. Because if Auburn loses and either Boise or TCU moves into the BCS championship game, the Rose doesn’t have to take a non-automatic qualifier. The Rose would then be free to take Stanford to play Wisconsin, which is the game they want if Oregon is not available.
Any questions?

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

As for where the quote from Preacher Newton came from – the one where he admitted having solicited money from Miss State but that nobody knew about it but him – that was from WSB-TV reporter Mark Winne (sp?) – an Auburn grad if I’m not mistaken. He got it directly from the old man hisself. That the JC in Texas said the kid was still ‘in good standing’ at Florida has got to be joke. Even urban wouldn’t have taken him back…the cheating, the traffic violation (thirteen in all for which he was never disciplined) and the ‘receipt of stolen property’ and ‘attempting to destroy evidence’ (throwing it out the window when they came to question him about it) lap-top thing, for some strange reason they gave him a ‘diversion program’ and a voluntary withdrawal from Florida in lieu of a guilty plea. The kid’s entire existence has been one of a superior athlete that thinks, because of that ability, is entitled to get away with any kind of bad behavior. Well it’s gonna catch up with him and Auburn before you know it and it won’t be pretty.
As for Auburn ‘not ‘qualifying’ for the ‘death penalty’…given that they are the only program that comes to mind that has had to miss out on two national championships due to being on probation, that would seem to ‘quality’ them in the same way they claim Cam Newton has been ‘eligible’ all season. I mean, what in hell does the NCAA need beyond blatant lying and deceit when it comes to this sorry episode to wave the ‘death penalty’ in their face – if for no other reason to get them to come clean and kick coach cheeze-it, the AD and the Prez out I mean, it’s not as if they haven’t done crap before that cost the top guys their jobs.

The NCAA “Death Penalty” is a specific sanction that must be applied under specific circumstances. Auburn does not currently qualify for the NCAA Death Penalty.

PAC 10 faithful, you’re right. It’s not fair to compare the 10 member Pac 10 to the 12 member SEC (the fact the Auburn is going to have to play an extra game aside….)
So lets add Utah and Colorado to the Pac 10 this year….
Pac 10 still stinks, Pac 10 still only has 3 quality teams. An independent school dropped Utah like a sack of potatoes.

When will UGA hire a real man to coach their team? My guess is Richt is afraid Chizik would have whooped his ass. He should have challenged him at midfield after the game. At the very least that idiot Grantham should have done something. UGA plays like a bunch of cowards. Please dont make the SEC look bad by getting woodshedded by the geeks from Tech. Maybe Richt can pray real hard for the victory.

Well my observation is that what AU is doing is actually a well thought-out crime. They hire a coach out of nowhere with a terrible record. That’s OK, they don’t need a household name to run this particular scam, just a yes-man who’s happy to be there. Enter Chizik. They secure former NCAA officials in the front office to handle improper allegations. They go after Cam Newton when everybody else in the conference is treating him like a hot potato. Even Miss. State said “No, no, we don’t want to hear that,” when Cam’s dad informs them that it’s “not going to free like before.” And that tells me that UF didn’t initially pay them, which is surprising. And, Cam’s father has a tax shelter in the church he runs. Anyone can make a $180,000 donation under and anonymous name. This looks like the perfect scenario for a school like Auburn to pay to play. This thing stinks to high heaven.

realistic, boy. Your comments reflect your age, or lack there of. Auburn has this year a great quarterback. Next year, I doubt it. Take Newton out of the equation, and where would you be. You are left with a brutish tackle who enjoys driving a quarterback(100 pds lighter) down with his helmet into the dirt. “What a man”. Or hitting him in the back of his helmet.clearly after the ball has been thrown. “What a man” I hope he(fairley) gets his ass handed to him by Alabama. We would be indebted to you Tide.

Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been called a “dirty player” since the Tigers’ 49-31 win over Georgia Saturday. Fairley was called for roughing the passer in the first quarter, and later knocked the Bulldogs’ quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after being blocked into the freshman’s leg.
After looking more closely at the game film, if Fairley is “dirty”, Georgia center Ben Jones may be the SEC’s version of “Pigpen”. Jones, a junior from Centerville, Ala., has already been suspended this season for an illegal block against Mississippi State. Jones illegally clipped a State defender in Georgia’s 24-12 loss to MSU.
“It was a pass downfield,” Jones reportedly said of the play against State. “I was just trailing the play because I didn’t know if the ball was caught yet. I just went to cut the guy downfield, just because I thought he might make the play because the ball was still up. When I cut him, they said it was too far behind the play, so I shouldn’t have done it.”
Jones attempted to do a similar thing against Fairley Saturday night in Auburn. Midway through the second quarter, Jones was jogging towards the Georgia sideline, towards the ball carrier that took the handoff around left end. Fairley was jogging behind Jones when Jones appeared to catch a glimpse of Fairley. Jones suddenly turned around and dove for Fairley’s legs. Fairley, who was jogging behind Jones at the time, dodged Jones’ attempt, leaping over the Georgia center.
Late in the game, Jones, with Fairley lying on the ground after making a tackle, fell onto Fairley and appeared to try and gouge Fairley’s eyes. The incident sparked a scuffle between the two teams, which led to the ejection of Auburn defensive end Michael Goggans.
Auburn defensive tackle Mike Blanc was ejected on the next play. Both Tiger defenders threw a punch and will serve a half-game suspension as a result. During the fight, the Georgia sideline was nearly empty. According to SEC rules, it is a one-game suspension for leaving the bench during a fight. As of Tuesday, no Georgia players had received a suspension, but according to the film, they should.

Are you mutts gonna cry all week or will it stop soon?
Before the game you talked trash non-stop…”Dawgs gonna shock ‘em. Mark it/book it, etc.” Now instead of just admitting that you were beaten by a better team (despite some solid and promising play from your own squad), you’re on here whining like little children. Never seen such poor sports/sore losers.
You lost to a team having a great run, but the silver lining is things look promising for the Dogs next year. If Auburn/Cam Newton/AU boosters have done something wrong, it’ll be discovered and they’ll be punished appropriately, and deservedly so. If not, then they’ll all breathe a sigh of relief.
In the meantime, stop your pouting, man up and admit the better team won, then go get ready for the Jackets.
