It’s Tuesday, we’re tired of talking about Cam Newton, and the new BCS standings are out. So let’s update our projections.
BCS Championship: No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Auburn.
Update: Just about every team that plays for the BCS national championship dodges at least one bullet along the way. For Oregon that was last Saturday night against California. Cal missed a 29-yard field goal that would have given the Bears the lead. Auburn (11-0) still has to win at Alabama and has to beat South Carolina for the second time this season when they meet in the SEC championship game on Dec. 4.
Rose: Wisconsin vs. Boise State.
Update: If Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State all finish at 11-1 the tiebreaker will go to the highest ranked team in the BCS Standings. That will be Wisconsin after the Badgers hung 83 on Indiana last Saturday. Boise State (9-0) still has three games left (Fresno State, Nevada, Utah State) but if the Broncos win out I beleive they will jump over TCU (which has one game left with 1-9 New Mexico) into the No. 3 spot. If Oregon goes to the big game, the Rose has to take Boise.
Sugar: LSU vs. Ohio State.
Update: LSU has to beat Ole Miss on Saturday, which it will do. But then the Tigers have a very interesting trip to Little Rock to face Arkansas on Nov. 27. Win both games and the Tigers are close to a lock for New Orleans if Auburn is in the big game. The Sugar will look at 12-0 TCU but I believe they will pass and take 11-1 Ohio State for the television ratings.
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. TCU.
Update: If the Sugar takes Ohio State, the Orange will basically have a choice between undefeated TCU and 11-1 Stanford. Michigan State can’t go at 11-1 because two Big Ten teams have already been picked. A two-loss SEC team can’t go because two SEC teams have been chosen.
Fiesta: Nebraska vs. West Virginia.
Update: The Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ and right now I’m leaning towards Nebraska. The Big East champions gets an automatic bid regardless of its record or ranking and so the Fiesta is praying that West Virginia wins that league. Looks like it will come down to the Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh (5-4) and West Virginia (6-3) on Nov. 26. With West Virginia on the other side the Fiesta has a chance to sell some tickets. Don’t forget South Florida (6-3) which controls its destiny in the Big East.
Stanford (9-1) has games remaining with Oregon State and California. The Cardinal could finish 11-1 and be left out of the BCS unless Auburn stumbles down the stretch. Because if Auburn loses and either Boise or TCU moves into the BCS championship game, the Rose doesn’t have to take a non-automatic qualifier. The Rose would then be free to take Stanford to play Wisconsin, which is the game they want if Oregon is not available.
Any questions?

LSU lobbying for BCS title game even if they don’t win SEC. Sorry, Charlie. UGA was there a few years back, they got leap-frogged. Can’t go if you don’t win your conference was the glowing sentiment.

Patrick Romano WAR DAMN EAGLE I’ll give you he may have been blocked into Murray..however he then went to the sidelines and proceed to celebrate knocking Murray out of the game by parading up and down the sidelines acting like he was putting on “the belt” that classless act will come back to haunt him…the entire O-line for Bama has that to study for 2 weeks….let him get a little frisky with the Bama QB and it won’t wait till the 4th quarter to blow up in his face. And do you think that the Dawgs will forget this just because the gasbag goes to the NFL this year…I don’t think so.

Good for him. The death penalty comment was comical. I can assure you that wont happen.. And yes we could easily lose to Bama, we’ll be underdogs going into that game..

My perspective has certainly changed. I thought early in the year that he was a mediocre passer at best. I still think he was (emphasis on “was”). Give Malzahn his due…..Newton is developing into a great passer. Just hope his development slows a bit between now and November 26.

Where do you guys get the “Cecil Newton admitted asking for money” crap? Another unnamed source heard from yet another unnamed source that Cecil said that. Same as the totally disproven claims of academic troubles at Florida, it’s all bogus. Check yesterday’s Houston Chronicle article by Joseph Duarte if you might be interested in truth, which I doubt you are. This story has actual, you know SOURCES that state their names and position titles, unlike all the anonymous liars. Link: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/college/7294741.html
Here’s part:
“Before Newton could enroll at Blinn, however, Franchione and school officials conducted their own inquiry into the situation at Florida.
“We have a (National Junior College Athletic Association) policy that you can’t take a student-athlete that is not eligible to go back to the institution he was at,” Rehr said. “So, upon him leaving Florida, he was still in good standing as a student, and he was still in good standing with the (football) program.”
As for Lattimore running all over Auburn, he won’t be running on the limp Dawg defense. Two weeks after Lattimore junked the Dawgs Auburn held him to 33 yards on 16 carries. Almost identical to the beatdown Auburn laid on last year’s Heisman winner in the Iron Bowl.
Cam gets the Heisman, Auburn goes straight ahead to a 14-0 Championship year and Dawgs and bamzos fight over the Birmingham bowl, if Dawgs can beat Tech.

I never said anything about LSU playing for the national title. Perhaps I misunderstood that you were talking about the last 2 games. Obviously I was referring to the whole season. The only “hype” I have been caught up in is LSU winning the next 2 games.

Hey Tony….I think your predictions are pretty solid but it’s sad a team as good as Stanford gets left out or even Michigan St and a team like West Va or Pitt get in. Your pick of Ohio St also assumes they beat Iowa. I know the Hawkeyes have stubbed their toe a couple times but Iowa is still a good team and they are at home.
I do have a question…..I heard reports this morning that if Auburn were to lose to Alabama & S. Carolina that LSU would go to the National Title game. Can that really happen? Remember in 2007 that UGA and USC were the two hottest teams in College football and everyone argued Georgia couldn’t go to the title game because they didn’t even make their conference championship game. Well I ask you, What is different with LSU because they aren’t going to the conference championship game either.
We need a PLAYOFF, PLAYOFF, PLAYOFF

Cam Newton developed into a “great passer” in junior high. You may not have noticed this, but others certainly did. He may not have any morals, but he was born with athletic ability.
@how2fish
Auburn doesn’t qualify for the NCAA “Death Penalty”. They do, however qualify for various other sanctions, including scholarship reductions, bowl bans and suspension from television. In addition, they stand to forfeit all wins accrued while playing an ineligible athlete.

Chris, I doubt if Auburn lost to Bama and SC that LSU would go to the national title game. LSU is tied for 3rd in the computer polls currently but the pollsters would not jump them over TCU and or Boise St. Thus the human polls portion of the BCS formula, or two-thirds, would keep them out.
LSU hasn’t finshed 11-1 yet so it’s all premature.

Ralistic Fan,
I am a Bama fan and we are gonna kick The Tigers butt in Bryant-Denny next Friday. You will be the one having nightmares for a long time to come. You had them when Bama hired Saban. You fired Tubbs and fired up the Pat Dye machine. You restarted the pay for play schemes and hired a token coach with no power to do anything about it. Now, you are within reach of an SEC and BCS Championship and the house starts to crumble with the Cam Newton revelations. Don’t worry, the NCAA won’t prevent you dreams from coming true. They will die on the turf of Bryant-Denny Stadium next Friday afternoon. Whine on that! Roll Tide!

Auburn would have had to have been on probation for NCAA infractions within the past five years in order to qualify for the “Death Penalty”. Tubby used questionable tactics to put together his 2004 squad, but they failed to achieve the desired goal and the NCAA was content to sweep that unsightly mess under the rug. Auburn won’t be so fortunate this time.

Well Tony,
I hate to say it but the SEC will only get one team in this season and that is going to be a decent South Carolina team. To start with Auburn will lose and big to Alabama and then in the SEC title game as well.
Justice will be served as the Best Team in the Country will finally have its chance to shut the big boys up as it will beat Oregon for the third time in 3 years. It is what it is but it is time that Boise gets the respect that it deserves. I am from the South and love Southern football both SEC as well as ACC but at the same time I do not mind admitting when a team is the best around.

Obviuosly I’m an AU fan, with that said, we have have good fortune this year.I dont know one AU fan that thinks were a dominant team. We could easily lose every game left. But the guys have made some plays at critical times. Our defense is suspect at best. Roof has chosen to try and stop the run first. Our secondary is terrible, obviously. Green, Alshon, Childs, Adams, Cobb killed us and no reason to beleive that Julio wont do the same. Ingram will be running angry because of the game last year. This will be a battle just like every sec game this year. Good luck to Bama fans, this should be a great game
