New BCS Projections: SEC, Big Ten get two teams in

It’s Tuesday, we’re tired of talking about Cam Newton,  and the new BCS  standings are out. So let’s update our projections.

BCS Championship:  No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Auburn.

Update: Just about every team that plays for the BCS national championship dodges at least one bullet along the way. For Oregon that was last Saturday night against California. Cal missed a 29-yard field goal that would have given the Bears the lead. Auburn (11-0) still has to win at Alabama and has to beat South Carolina for the second time this season when they meet in the SEC championship game on Dec. 4.

Rose: Wisconsin vs. Boise State.

Update: If Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State all finish at 11-1 the tiebreaker will go to the highest ranked team in the BCS Standings. That will be Wisconsin after the Badgers hung 83 on Indiana last Saturday. Boise State (9-0) still has three games left (Fresno State, Nevada, Utah State) but if the Broncos win out I beleive they will jump over TCU (which has one game left with 1-9 New Mexico) into the No. 3 spot. If Oregon goes to the big game, the Rose has to take Boise.

Sugar: LSU vs. Ohio State.

Update: LSU has to beat Ole Miss on Saturday, which it will do. But then the Tigers have a very interesting trip to Little Rock to face Arkansas on Nov. 27. Win both games and the Tigers are close to a lock for New Orleans if Auburn is in the big game. The Sugar will look at 12-0 TCU but I believe they will pass and take 11-1 Ohio State for the television ratings.

Orange: Virginia Tech vs. TCU.

Update: If the Sugar takes Ohio State, the Orange will basically have a choice between undefeated TCU and 11-1 Stanford. Michigan State can’t go at 11-1 because two Big Ten teams have already been picked. A two-loss SEC team can’t go because two SEC teams have been chosen.

Fiesta: Nebraska vs. West Virginia.

Update:  The Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ and right now I’m leaning towards Nebraska. The Big East champions gets an automatic bid regardless of its record or ranking and so the Fiesta is praying that West Virginia wins that league. Looks like it will come down to the Backyard Brawl between Pittsburgh (5-4) and West Virginia (6-3) on Nov. 26. With West Virginia on the other side the Fiesta has a chance to sell some tickets. Don’t forget South Florida (6-3) which controls its destiny in the Big East.

Stanford  (9-1) has games remaining with Oregon State and California. The Cardinal could finish 11-1 and be left out of the BCS unless Auburn stumbles down the stretch. Because if Auburn loses and either Boise or TCU moves into the BCS championship game, the Rose doesn’t have to take a non-automatic qualifier. The Rose would then be free to take Stanford to play Wisconsin, which is the game they want if Oregon is not available.

Any questions?

Thanks rokdawg, like plenty of others, including the SEC people, I’m convinced that young Mr. Newton and his Daddy took money from Auburn. The only thing is that my sources tell me that Bobby Louder has decided to ‘lay low’ for a while, so what we needed was another well-healed and ethically-challenged AU alum to have done the deed. Now we have him.

Sorry AU fans but surely with all the crap that’s been in the fan these past couple of weeks you don’t really think it’s all just a big lie just to keep you from enjoying your ill-gotten gains, do you? The truth is out there and nobody’s interested in keeping it from coming out…not the SEC…not the NCAA…and not any other program that would appreciate something of a level playing field.

Now tell me, how ironic it’ll be to find out that the money that paid off the Newtons came from a ‘dawg track’?

SEC probably thought AU got enough punishment for the two kids not playing the first half…and they dont want to weaken what could be a good game in Tuska..I honestly don’t believe bama can keep up with our offense…don’t compare what you did against miss st or some of these other schools…our defensive scheme against the run plays a huge hand against bama’s running style…only threat will be against the pass and jones..but thats nothing new we have been dealing with that all year…it will be a high scoring affair but if bama can’t put 50 up on us..its ball game. I will say the game being at bama does help them..but it isn’t the be all end all..especially the way auburn has won games all year ie tight close affairs…

Auburn’s decision to onside kick was creative, and turned the game. They may have won anyway, but that definately turned the momentum. They did, however, fumble the ball prior to crossing the goal line, at the end of the game. I cannot understand why re-play officials could not see this. And Fairley should have been ejected for his dirty spear, as well as grinding his facemask into Murray. I know the Auburn fans may not like this, but his play went way beyond dirty. Question: If Walsh has drop kicked Fairly in the gonads, would Auburn fans be alright with a 15 yard penalty?

Now all the Bammers and Dawgs want big bad Fairley suspended? Give me a freaking break. What about all the chop blocks for UGA, what about 33 players leaving the sideline during the fight when we had zero leave the bench? Tony Barnhardt will not write about this because we are the evil empire right now so that wouldn’t sell. I agree it was a bush league hit but we got a 15 yard penalty. I am actually amazed UGA fans are still talking about this but I do understand it is better than talking about the actual game. Even your boy Buck said yesterday it is football and to move on to all the uga cry babies.

While I am disgusted by Auburn and their behavior on and off the field I am shocked the BCS has them at number 2. Think about who Auburn has played and who Oregon has played. All the other rankings make since but that one seems crazy. Undefeated in the SEC West is a far greater accomplishment than anything Oregon has done this year. Shame the NCAA will take it all away. Thats what you get for starting with another teams trash.

Dawg Fan, he wouldn’t have been able to hit the QB if my line wasn’t the worst in the conference. He told me after one sack, I’m going to get him until you find a way to stop me. Sadly, I had no answer. I would rather have my team play flag football in the mambie pambie league.

Well well Fairley is a saint he is the bomb the best defender in a long history of great Auburn defenders…yeppers. I wonder how well the “putting on the belt” antics will play the next couple of weeks with the Bama O-line? It will be very interesting how that group will react the first time he pile drives their QB particularly after all the press his antics have created.

If Fairley was playing in the NFL his wallet would be lighter and he would be suspended (all the NFL analyst agreed on that last night on Sportscenter). He plays in the SEC on a team with questionable scrupples to begin with. I was a little surprised Gene didn’t pull him out for a play and have a chat with him about what 15 yard penalties do like every other coach. Leadership comes from the top. Auburn has a winner, but this coach will cost them dearly when the NCAA is done. I have never seen this much bad press about a school in a long time.

No history buffs here? Auburn owns the stadium in Tuskaloser, even more than they own the one in Athens. Auburn is 6-1 all time in the place we call Jordan-Hare West.

Bammer loses for the third time in the Iron Bowl, then loses their bowl game to stay true to Saban’s tradition of following a championship year with a four-loss season.

You whining Dawgs should take a tip from Buck Belue. I’ll quote him: “If Fairley was a Dawg we’d be loving him”.

Can I sign up for the flag football mambie pambie league when you leave town coach?
I didn’t realize I would get tackled in this league. Some call it dirty and I agree. No one tackles me in practice so I’m glad our team isn’t dirty…except for the guys I’ve had to go get out of jail every week. By the way, has anyone seen Ealey and King this morning?

Gary I agree with you 100% that if he was in the NFL he would have been suspended and he would be fined heavily…but the rules of the NCAA and NFL are two different entities…NCAA is going to be changing the rules next year NO DOUBT..but right now there is nothing on it…and UGA fans and BAMA fans…im sure after all this press he has gotten…im pretty positive he wont be making those hits anymore the rest of the year…not out of fear..b/c he is the best D lineman in the country..and can tear apart anyone..but Chizik has talked to him and said what is and isnt acceptable..

remember people Chizik has been with auburn for while long before he was a head coach for auburn..he knows and lives the traditions we represent..and when he says he was embarrassed with those actions..he truely was…

This Bama fan hopes Auburn comes to T-Town with a full roster….I like Bama’s chances, and think they can play AU straight up.

I hope the pay-for-play story goes away (but it won’t). This is bad for AU, the SEC, and CFB.

I believe the game will go into the 4th….that is AU’s best quarter, so we’ll have to see how bad Bama wants it. I’m thinking pretty bad.

Hmmmm, exactly. I don’t think that I am being anti-Auburn by simply noting that Auburn has the much harder path to the BCS Championship Game, one that includes playing their in-state rival and the East Division champion. If the SEC is going to repeat as the conference of BCS champions for the fifth straight season, it’s either Auburn or no one.

Hey AUfan and DC, guess I must have hit a nerve. First, DC, the ‘fan’ I was referring to is the reciprocating kind where after being hit by fecal-matter it sorta sprays all over the place…then again, maybe you were just making a joke. Second, you guys just keep on thinking that it’s all just a bunch of lying rumors if that makes you feel any better about what’ll happen when that evidence that you say isn’t there is finally made public and the AU President, AD and Coaches have to take the heat for an openly defiant attitude about all this. It’s one thing to actually not know the truth and be hit with it…it’s another to have known it but denied that it was so. That latter kind means you get the max…haven’t you ever seen how it works on Law & Order? Come clean and implicate others and you only get twenty to life…otherwise you get the ‘death penalty’.

Charlie Bama, Alabama still has a chance for a BCS bid. If they beat Auburn and LSU loses to Ole Miss or Ark, then the Tide would have the edge over LSU and Arkansas if all end up at 10-2. If this holds it would not matter what happens in the SECCG. If Auburn wins they would go to the Sugar while Bama goes to the Orange. If SC wins they would go to the Sugar, Auburn to the Capital One and Bama to Miami.

And yes Murphy LSU could lose to Arkansas, IF, they don’t play like they are capable of. I like the Tigers’ chances against Mallet much more so than against Newton. This is not to take anything away from the Hogs as they are a very good team and we will have our hands full.
