Our first BCS Projections. What are yours?

We are less than a month from Selection Sunday so it is not too early to make our BCS Projections. These projections are based on the major players involved winning out . W e know that won’t happen but  if it does, I want to give you an idea of how the process is going to work.

BCS championship: Oregon vs. Auburn. Oregon still has to win on the road at California and on the road at Oregon State. Auburn has two tough SEC games with Georgia at home and Alabama on the road. If this is the matchup, don’t think we’ll have a lot of complaints except from the precincts in Fort Worth and Boise who may go undefeated and not get a shot. This would be a good year for a four-team playoff, don’t you think?

Here are the rest of the projected  BCS Bowls:

Rose: Wisconsin vs. TCU

Sugar: LSU vs. Boise State

Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State

Fiesta: Nebraska vs. Pittsburgh

Here is how we get there.

The two bowls who lose their designated champions to the BCS title game get the first two picks after the BCS title game is set:

Rose (which lost No. 1 Oregon). The rules of the new BCS contract say that the Rose has to take No. 3 TCU or No. 4 Boise State as a replacement pick if one of those teams qualifies for an at-large berth. BCS expert Jerry Palm tells me that it is still possible for Boise to jump back to No. 3 and in that case the Rose might take the Broncos as its replacement pick.

Sugar (which lost No. 2 Auburn, the SEC champ) Takes 11-1 LSU. That’s a no brainer.

Big 12 champ (Nebraska) is placed in the Fiesta.

ACC champ (Virginia Tech) is placed in the Orange

Big Ten champ (Wisconsin)  is placed in the Rose

So the BCS championship is full and the Rose Bowl is full.

Now the selection order, which is determined before the season, is Sugar, Orange, Fiesta. Remember that to be considered for a BCS at-large bid you have to finish in the final top 12 and win at least nine games.

Sugar: They could take a 11-1 Ohio State whose only loss is to Wisconsin. But at the end of the day the Sugar will take the highest ranked team they can get. That will be undefeated Boise State which gets a chance to test itself against one of the best defenses in the country. Or it could be undefeated TCU if Boise goes to the Rose.

Orange: You could take 11-1 Stanford, 11-1 Michigan State or 11-1 Ohio State. It’s an easy choice. You take the Buckeyes and all those TV sets that will turn on to watch them.

Fiesta is left with Pittsburgh, the Big East champ.

Understand that if Oregon or Auburn lose down the strech it will open up the argument of whether or TCU and Boise should both play in the big game or if a one-loss team from one of the power conferences should get one of those spots.

So what do you think of the BCS matchups? Do any of those games interest you? Is there a team getting left out that is more deserving than the 10 on this list? The floor is yours.

gcs,

The SEC does not have a tie in with the Independence Bowl. They have the Gator Bowl now.

GTBob,

I think most SEC fans on here will acknowledge that Oregon is a great team. LSU plays them in Cowboys Stadium in the first game in 2011 and I’m already worried.

i’m biased but here it goes. I think that an argument could be made that a 1 loss team could be; perhaps should be, ranked over Oregon based on the top teams they beat (body of work as they say). If Oregon and AU run the table (Big IF), AU would have beat top 25 AK, LSU, USC, BAMA, Ms ST, and USC/UF in SECCG. So no argument there, 1 or 2 rank easy. If Oregon runs the table, they would have beat top 25 Stanford and Arizona and no champ game. I understand that they will be in the NCG if they do run the table. I’m just saying that the same argument made against TCU/Boise could be made against Oregon. I dont care to talk about the weak part of the schedule. All good teams would beat the weak part of another good team’s schedule. I have a problem when 6 or more games are against sub par teams.
I will say, AU vs.Oregon would be very interesting. Some point to AU’s weak D. Weak stats, but against who? On the flip side Oregon can put points on fast. But again, against who. I’d like to see how Oregon would fare against and LSU/Bama type D. And AU’ s offensive output is not as gotti’s as Oregon, but the competion they faced is much tougher too. AU has proven they can put points on a weaker team also. Should be fun.

The big mess: if AU beats both or drops one of UGA/Bama and Loses in ATL. Then what? I guess TCU-Oregon. Oregon beats TCU and what have we learned then?

I’m not saying that Oregon is not good. Just question how tested/proven are they really?

Some interesting comments on Oregon being overranked and playing weak teams.
The computers don’t agree.

So on top of some guy allegedly shopping Cam around we now have a report from Foxsports that he allegedly cheated 3 times at Florida and was to be up on academic dishonesty charges before a student committee. Hmmmm! Yep. Sounds like Auburn to me.

TCM- UGA did recruit Cam. read the other article. cam watned to paly in the sptead & that’s why he ended up going to 2 schools…both FL & AU that run that type of offense. Stafford was at UGA at teh time that he was being recruited, & UGA can’t get eveybody in the state. UGa did get Murray out of FL. So why don’t you ugys ask why FL iddn’t get him. Cam will be gone after this yr., but Murray is a FR. He should only get better.

I hope that in the Uga vs. Ga. Tech game, Richt will be playing to keep his job. Pitiful, absolutely pitiful what he has allowed to happen to a once awesome football program.

Wesley,

You know your conference is toast when you have to seriously compare it to the Big Easy. They have what, 8 teams?

DCDuck,

As a UGA fan that has seen Richt for 10 years now, believe me, a coach can sit on a lead if they want to. UGA has done it for years with leads that most of us find too close for comfort. I’ve seen bits of Oregon this season and they are still throwing it late in the game while being up 30. And don’t try to convince me that your 3rd string receivers are better than all your competition’s 1st team defenses. Only way that is possible is if the football God’s touched the program with their magic won before the season. You guys aren’t getting that much talent.

The Big Easy doesn’t have Miami, Va. Tech, BC, Georgia Tech or FSU. They are purely a basketball conference. The ACC thinks they are a football conference, big difference.

LOL, I have issues because I let the numbers do the talking for me? Again, you can’t dispute anything that I have said. You know Oregon’s schedule is a joke. I concede it’s not their fault since the Pac 10 sucks and UT is horrible, but this happens every year where a good team is punished for playing an inferior schedule. Why should Oregon get a pass?

Look no further than than 2004 Auburn. They beat 2 teams that finished in the top 10, and a very good Tennessee team TWICE, not to forget a very solid LSU team, and they didn’t get a shot at it. Their schedule was 10 teams more impressive than Oregon’s this year, and they didn’t get to play. So yes, I strongly believe Oregon does not deserve a shot due to their horrible schedule.

TB –

Once all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed, do you think Auburn will get the death penalty? As an SEC fan I would absolutely hate to see that, but their arrogance during this whole ordeal has been astounding……

For being known as Mr. College Football you should know the BCS rules. It is top 14 with nine wins and not top 12.
