We are less than a month from Selection Sunday so it is not too early to make our BCS Projections. These projections are based on the major players involved winning out . W e know that won’t happen but if it does, I want to give you an idea of how the process is going to work.
BCS championship: Oregon vs. Auburn. Oregon still has to win on the road at California and on the road at Oregon State. Auburn has two tough SEC games with Georgia at home and Alabama on the road. If this is the matchup, don’t think we’ll have a lot of complaints except from the precincts in Fort Worth and Boise who may go undefeated and not get a shot. This would be a good year for a four-team playoff, don’t you think?
Here are the rest of the projected BCS Bowls:
Rose: Wisconsin vs. TCU
Sugar: LSU vs. Boise State
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State
Fiesta: Nebraska vs. Pittsburgh
Here is how we get there.
The two bowls who lose their designated champions to the BCS title game get the first two picks after the BCS title game is set:
Rose (which lost No. 1 Oregon). The rules of the new BCS contract say that the Rose has to take No. 3 TCU or No. 4 Boise State as a replacement pick if one of those teams qualifies for an at-large berth. BCS expert Jerry Palm tells me that it is still possible for Boise to jump back to No. 3 and in that case the Rose might take the Broncos as its replacement pick.
Sugar (which lost No. 2 Auburn, the SEC champ) Takes 11-1 LSU. That’s a no brainer.
Big 12 champ (Nebraska) is placed in the Fiesta.
ACC champ (Virginia Tech) is placed in the Orange
Big Ten champ (Wisconsin) is placed in the Rose
So the BCS championship is full and the Rose Bowl is full.
Now the selection order, which is determined before the season, is Sugar, Orange, Fiesta. Remember that to be considered for a BCS at-large bid you have to finish in the final top 12 and win at least nine games.
Sugar: They could take a 11-1 Ohio State whose only loss is to Wisconsin. But at the end of the day the Sugar will take the highest ranked team they can get. That will be undefeated Boise State which gets a chance to test itself against one of the best defenses in the country. Or it could be undefeated TCU if Boise goes to the Rose.
Orange: You could take 11-1 Stanford, 11-1 Michigan State or 11-1 Ohio State. It’s an easy choice. You take the Buckeyes and all those TV sets that will turn on to watch them.
Fiesta is left with Pittsburgh, the Big East champ.
Understand that if Oregon or Auburn lose down the strech it will open up the argument of whether or TCU and Boise should both play in the big game or if a one-loss team from one of the power conferences should get one of those spots.
So what do you think of the BCS matchups? Do any of those games interest you? Is there a team getting left out that is more deserving than the 10 on this list? The floor is yours.

Oregon-Auburn matchup could produce a basketball-type score–two good/great offenses and two very suspect defenses. TCU (and to a lesser extent Boise State) are strong on BOTH sides of the ball. I am now retired and have wathced a lot of college football this fall. I think that TCU is the best team in the land and will prove it if given the opportunity. P.S. I am not a Texan.

Blazer, I don’t think the experts would go crazy. It would be more like the networks and advertisers. I don’t think that game generates a lot of true national interest.
An interesting question would be whether companies have already secured advertising spots, if so, can they back out? If the advertising isn’t spoken for the networks will suffer a major loss of revenue.
My opinion.

See my post earlier this morning. With those statistics now from a 9 game body of work, how is Oregon’s defense suspect? Seriously, before making blanket statements just look at some of the numbers. I know you can make an argument by manipulating statistics, but their overall defense numbers are nothing to be embarrassed of, and I would certainly not throw them in the ‘suspect’ bucket. I applaud you at watching a ton of college ball this fall, and thinking TCU is the best team in the land, ok, I won’t try to wrestle you from your belief there. Just explain how Oregon’s defense is suspect? Go back and look at the numbers.

Team 1 points allowed 0 13 0 31 31 23 13 32 16 avg. 17.7 pts/game
Team 2 points allowed 24 3 7 14 14 29 10 24 21 avg. 16.3 pts/game
Of course, because Team 2 is LSU they have a great defense while Team 1 (Oregon) has a suspect D

Oregon has only faced 2 teams that are currently above .500. Five of their previous opponents have a combined record of 10-36. Yet Oregon still has given up an average of nearly 18 points a game. This is not a champion’s schedule, nor is this a champion’s defense given your competition.
Looks like the media has yet again prematurely shot their load over yet another disgustingly overrated Oregon team.

I respect Oregon, TCU(more than the other two) and the smurfturfs..but I simply feel, if any of them played AUs first ten games , 2 of the 3 would not be undefeated. Were barely undefeated ourselves.

So Cam got caught cheating at UF 3 different times? Happily used a stolen laptop? Possibly hooked up with an “agent” during recruiting? And yet the media continues to pretend this thug is the son of Mother Teresa? I suspect if ol’ Cam was of a different skin complexion the media would be acting the exact opposite. Love that liberal PC BS!!!

Exactly. Oregon has basically played a glorified Boise schedule. Auburn has already faced 7 teams that are .500 or better, compared to Oregon having faced only 2. There is no contest who deserves the top ranking more.

It’s a crying shame that Pitt takes a slot and a team like Michigan St or Stanford would get left out. I think a new rule should be you cant go to a BCS unless you are ranked in the top 8 or 10. I know Pitt will win the Big East but is that really an accomplishment this year????

Going on the road to play at Tennessee’s 100,000 amped up Neyland Stadium when their season was not in shambles and they gave us one hell of a first half before we rattled off 35 unanswered points and blew the doors open. REMEIND ME, BUT DIDN’T LSU NEARLY LOSE TO THE ‘LOWLY’ VOLS AT HOME? Again, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Oregon beat UT by more pts than Alabama? Stanford, now sitting in the BCS Top 10 for a few weeks in a row got pasted at home by Oregon. Close first half, sure, but look at the second half. Stanford shut out, and couldn’t stop Oregon – with L James running for 250+yds and 3 TDs. Going on the road to U.S.C., and they themselves calling it their Super Bowl of 2010, down year with them , yes, but don’t discount their 13 5star and nearly 30 4 star recruits- many of which will play in the NFL.
That’s not the New Mexico State, San Jose State, Hawaii, or Toledo that Boise St. has played to date going into the second Saturday of November. I’ll also add, granted Texas is no juggernaut this year, they are still tough to beat at home and they did go on the road to beat Nebraska in a blood game NU gave it all they had- UCLA goes into Austin, whoops them, and YES, whoops them… well Oregon beats UCLA 60-13. Kicks the living crap out of the Bruins on national TV. A glorified Boise St schedule? Look a little closer, and don’t make yourself sound so silly.
FYI, the Va-Tech guy makes fun of his conference. Nobody is saying over here in DC that Va-Tech plays in the AFC Central. He and all Hokies know the ACC is even, not terrible, but certainly not “great”.

DCDuck,
I had typed you a novel in response, but TB’s bullsh*t blog apparently has a mind of it’s own. Just to summarize, it’s not Oregon’s fault that UT sucks, but the fact still remains, they suck. The wins over USC and Stanford were impressive, but running up the scores were obviously involved, also in several other of Oregon’s games. By the end of the season, Auburn would have played a guaranteed 9 teams at .500 or better, with a possibility of a couple of more finishing the same. Oregon is only guaranteed with 3 definitely finishing .500 or better.
You really can’t dispute the numbers.

Just saying u cant take a knee in the fourth all quarter long. Oregon’s #2’s and #3’s were whooping up their defense with the SAME play, and we just ran by them. No 4 WR’s spread out chucking the rock, just running it every time and we still got 50pts a game. Not running it up, what else are the Ducks going to do??

MILES- you’ve got issues if you think Oregon doesnt deserve a shot in the title game this year. Not the 2009 Oregon team, but the 2010 with Darron Thomas at QB not Masoli. Big difference.
