Georgia can beat Gators, lose to Auburn, and still win SEC East

I  put this list together yesterday as sort of a sanity check of what could happen in the whacky SEC East as we move into the stretch drive. It doesn’t include every scenario, such as Kentucky winning its last three conference games with Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee to finish 4-4. If that happens, I will gladly stand corrected.

Here are SOME possibilities, not all, of what could happen to determine a champion in the SEC East race.  The most fascinating one is that if Georgia beats Florida, the Bulldogs could still lose to Auburn and go to the SEC championship game in Atlanta. In that respect, the game in Jacksonville is huge to both teams.

Have fun.

First, the teams:

SOUTH CAROLINA (3-2 SEC)

Wins: Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt

Losses: Auburn, Kentucky

Games left: vs. Tennessee (Saturday), vs. Arkansas (Nov. 6), at Florida (Nov. 13)

FLORIDA (2-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Kentucky

Losses: Alabama, LSU, Miss. State

Games left: Georgia (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Vanderbilt (Nov. 6), vs. South Carolina Nov. 13.

GEORGIA (3-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky

Losses: South Carolina, Arkansas, Miss. State

Games left: Florida (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Auburn (Nov. 13).

THE SCENARIOS

1. South Carolina controls its own destiny. If the Gamecocks beat Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida they win the SEC East at 6-2.

2. Florida controls its own destiny. If the Gators beat Georgia, Vanderbilt and South Carolina they will be 5-3 in the conference. Florida would win the tiebreaker with South Carolina if both are 5-3 and Georgia would be 4-4 at best.

3. Georgia doesn’t control its destiny because it lost to South Carolina on Sept. 11. But if it beats Florida and Auburn, and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the Division. Georgia will be 5-3 while South Carolina and Florida will be 4-4 at best.

4. If Georgia beats Florida and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the division whether or not it beats Auburn on Nov. 13. Here’s how:

If Georgia beats Florida but loses to Auburn, Georgia will be 4-4 in the SEC but 4-1 in the Eastern Division (loss to South Carolina).

If Florida loses to Georgia but beats Vanderbilt and South Carolina, it will be 4-4 in the conference but also 4-1 in the Division (Loss to Georgia).

If South Carolina drops two of its last three conference games and one of those losses is to Florida it will be 4-4 in the conference but no better than 3-2 in the division (Losses to Kentucky and Florida).

South Carolina is thus eliminated from the three-way tie at 4-4. Georgia wins the division on the head to head win over Florida.

That should keep us all busy for a while.

…with playoff schemes. Arcane rules determine that a team with a 50% W/L ratio from the East division enters the playoff over a one loss team from the West division. That’s okay, so long as the two best teams in the conference aren’t in the same division.

Nothing about the “allbarn” (”awbrin” “awulbarn”) plainsmen, tigers, war eagles or whatever they think they are so all of you clowns (bama) has to bring up laptops today.

Everyone is on the pups this weekend after their 3 game streak through “murderers row”.

They could cetrtainly win but this feels like one of those games where UF +3 will look like a christmas present by the half.

Not really buying the fact we will win the SEC East,I do however think we are good enough to beat Florida. Just beat Florida-not squeak by them-we need to dominate just like our last 3 games.Bobo will be the deciding factor on Sat.He must call an aggressive game and not sit on a lead.Keep the pressure on the Gator offense to score.

A whole lot of moving parts there, Mr. Tony. Reminds me of of a elementary school play–something ain’t gonna happen like it’s suppose to. The SEC East is a mess, and the SEC West is still murky. Good Luck, BullDawgs! Beat Gators (it’s probably now or never), and beat (down) the Barners. Bama’s got your back.

Be sure to watch tonight as the giant killers in blue demolish yet another of the very best teams in college football. If the SEC was any good, then Boise State would be in the SEC. BSU is so dominant that they are the only team in the nation with a 96% chance of going undefeated.

But where are the scenario’s for South Carolina losing only one game? That is a far more likely outcome…yet it is not mentioned above. Does that mean they win the SEC East? Looks like they are in the drivers seat!!!

Florida will finish 3-5 in SEC. Uga will finish 4-4. South Carolina will finish 5-3. But clearly the SEC West is SUPREME this year. Likely five of those teams would have won the SEC East this year. Yes…even Mississippi State looks like they would have won the SEC East. Down year for us Dawg fans and everyone else in the East.

A team that loses 4 in the conference, winning the SEC East is what I’d call bitter-sweet. Puts a twist on the saying, ‘Only the strong survive.’ Make that read, ‘Only the strongest of the weak survive.’ All in all, whoever walks away from the East with the title, let me be the first to offer them my congrats.

This is the problem… : There’s nothing arcane about winning your division and playing for the title. In fact, that IS playoff football. At this point, the SECCG doesn’t look too glamorous on the national stage but may inpact whether the SEC has a player in the BCSNCG. For those involved, it’s starting to be white-knuckle time.

Bottom line is this. USC and UF control their own destiny. UGA can only win with some help from the other two. This weekend will decide whether UF or UGA is eliminated and relegated to playing the role of spoiler.
While neither team is ranked, it’s still one of the most important games they have played against each other in a while.
Hopefully, the Gators have worked out a few things on offense and will be able to score some points. If not, then the season is a wash.

Once again, these jerks sports writers at the ajc, are making Georgia some kind of power house, they have loss 4 games, in Florida the sports writers are giving it to Meyers and this team, they are not talking about wining no East with 3 losses.

Mark Richt is still being praise here after losing to Colorodo, Urban has 2 Nat and he is under pressure, this is why UGA still has not won a championship since Ronald Reagan was in office, and why they are still showing 1980 film, these sports writers are to puppy in love with the Dogs to tell them the hard truth, their season sucked for the last few years.

SS; for the most part, SEC teams are NOT going to schedule anyone tough out of conference, with rare exceptions. You saw what GA did this year? They added Charleston and another FCS school to future schedule, and their AD said “we are NOT doing that anymore” (scheduling significant BCS schools). I don’t think, for all of the SEC bravado on these blogs, that anyone wants Boise on their REGULAR SEASON schedule. Teams want to go undefeated so they can play in the BCSCG, and they are not going to add a Boise to their schedule…period.

Their stadium is so small, they cannot pay a SEC team enough to travel out there by splitting the gate. Hell, there are high school stadiums in Georgia as big as Boise’s.

So I don’t really expect UGA to win. I will be happy for UGA if they can make a game out of it. It’ll be a real rivalry when UGA can beat FL more often.

I think UGA got well against some weaker teams… but Florida and Auburn are likely to make them sick again. I really think the MSU/UF game will be viewed as a big upset in hindsight. UF was licking wounds coming off two tough losses and had to go on the road while still carrying their perceived Gator “mystique” with them into Starkville. Besides, we want Aubie undefeated coming into Tuscaloosa.

UGA’s summer of fun ( Caleb, Tavarres, AJ and his wardrobe sale, Waushuan ( twice) and Dontavious and Montrez and Metenberger, etc.) caused UGA’s hard working, dedicated players to lose focus come game day. They were badly distracted by all of that crap. They were a divided football team. We ended up 1-4 and that for me was the straw on Richt’ back that broke it. He is too lax with his boys and they know that he will love them and forgive them and ah, um, PTL.
These young thugs ( all schools now do have some thugs, not just UGA ) do not respect that ……………so they slam into parked cars on campus at 400 am, manhandle women and such ………and booze it out on the road, etc. 1-4 is what they worked on with their night life. They were not SPARTAN TOUGH. That means ready to kick a– and take no prisoners. UGA players are generally thought of as SOFT. Thie summer of fun proves it.

If CMR can run the table with no more losses and play Alabama or Auburn in the Dome and end up in a decent mid to lower level bowl, then he possibly might be due one more year.

Regardless of this ugly season’s out come ……….if not fired, he will be put on notice for 2011 and he had better sign one fabulous class of running backs and more running backs and linebackers and D linemen that are huge for in the middle play.

Since dawgtards seem to love living in the past, how about remembering the Jan Kemp trial, which exposed UGA and Vince Dooley for the jokes that they were. My favorite quote from the trial was this one:

O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

The best thing about the trial was that it completely killed Vince Dooley’s shot at Congress, since he was exposed as a fraud and a cheat during the trial. Make no mistake – Dooley knew everything that was going on.

Nothing has changed in the almost three decades since the trial. If anything, the abuses are even worse. Exhibit #1: Jim Harrick and son.

Today the players are even more illiterate and felonious and, well, just plain stupid, as evidenced by their arrest records and record number of penalties. Even Vince Dooley couldn’t have controlled this mob, much less Mark Richt. And now even the AD is a drunk debaucherer.

There’s a reason why UGA is known as The Cesspool of the South.

As I understand it each school makes its own schedule. Because of Bama’s schedule this year they made a rule about it. Seems that an easy fix would be to disallow division teams from taking their byes before a division game unless both do. This way no more than three teams could possibly schedule a bye before any given team and all schedules would be somewhat equalized within divisions, which is the most important thing since there is a SECCG.

Va Tech lost to Boise State. So, most causal college football observers suggest “that proves Boise is great”. Nope, sorry. See, the ACC is a joke. Look at the out of conferences debacles this year. They are a laughing stock league.

Boise State came to Athens about 5 years back and that game was a rout within 12 minutes. It did get closer at the very end like 43-28 but it was 43-12 with the second half barely underway. Now, my facts are not 100% crystal clear but they are close ……………UGA routed Boise and the Boise QB was supposedly an ALL WORLD QB ……………until he saw the speed of the SEC caliber defenders.

As records go this year is a wash, let’s just be realistic and call it what it is. I put the kool aid down in 2007 when we got our rear ends handed to us in Knoxville because our coaching staff can’t “mentally” prepare a team to play. They haven’t shown me they can since.

I had some gator tail on Saturday prepping for the game. I would love to see the Dawgs continue their roll of late, the Gators however down they may seem “are still the Gators”. They won’t play dead like UT and Vandy.

UGA will not be in the SEC championship this year or any time in the near future as long as we keep this mediocre staff in place (with Todd Grantham being the lone exception). The coaching staff’s lack of player evaluation, discipline, and development are the reason year in and year out we under achieve. It’s too little too late for this year’s team but we have been in this “defending Mark Richt mode” for the past four years (and it will continue until people wake up and stop apologizing for this under performing product/style of football).

Here;s one UGA fan that’s just thankful that we’ve turned this mess around – regardless of who we’ve played. To the point that I like our chances against anybody left on the schedule. Sure UF will have had an extra week to get ready, but that can be overcome…and Tech has shown that they’re ordinary – we can beat ordinary. As for Auburn, it kinda reminds you of the British Navy’s (sorry Derek but you started this) view of the Bismark…and we know what happened back then. Mr. Newton -who’s one purchase of a stolen lap-top away from being the starting QB for UF this weekend – needs to get his rudder busted and we’ll see how that game will turn out. Not that we have anybody that can hurt him, but then that’s why they play the games.

“Uh huh, so what you’re saying is the head coach, the guy who controls everything about the football team, had nothing to do with winning. Oh, and Tebow didn’t play the whole game in 2006, Leak did.” He’s obviously showing how well he can coach and control this year without his golden child.

“I bet you said the same thing when you went to Colorado.” I’d rather have lost to Colorado the way we did (gave it to them) than lose at home to MSU at your homecoming game. You only put up 7 points AT HOME during your homecoming game? The Alumni must be proud of the strides you’ve made under the great Corch Urban Crier.

“I had no idea UGAY was a pro football team. Last time I checked, PITT had the SB MVP.” Don’t forget about Terrell Davis and the mile high salute homeboy! Run an tell dat!

“Against the worst teams in the SEC. Your team has yet to beat a ranked team. In fact, you have lost to every ranked opponent you’ve played.” Please reference a ranked team you’ve beaten this year? Are those crickets chirping?

Here’s a thought for Clemson fans. What if SC wins the East and beats Clemson for the 2nd straight year? Clearly that would be considered SC bypassing Clemson. What then? Will Clemson fire its AD and piss-poorly qualified HC to regain ground but THIS TIME AROUND actually hire a qualified candidate? Or will it continue to do the same-old same-old, gunning for roll-back pricing in the coaching clearance bin? I’m thinking the latter, since Clemson has no idea (nor any desire) to build a winning football program.

Here’s my take on SEC football so far.

Georgia: They’ve managed to beat up on some bad SEC teams. Big deal. They will lost to Florida and Auburn and will therefore be left out of a bowl game.

LSU: They will most likely lose to Alabama because they don’t really have an offense.

Arkansas: Will win out.

Alabama: Will easily beat LSU and will struggle against GA State (KIDDING) and will lose to Auburn in a close game. Auburn does well playing in Tuscaloosa.

Florida: They will win out and get destroyed by FSU.

Every other team: No one cares.

The most realistic scenario: UGA loses to Florida and Auburn, and handily defeats Idaho State, which causes the average Bulldog fan to dream again of national glory. It then comes down to the GT game to determine bowl eligibility. The Shreveport chamber of commerce exerts its muscle and “arranges” for a ‘dog victory. It means too much to the economy to allow all those affluent Georgia fans from spending their money at a bowl site.
UGA will meet and beat Texas Tech in the bowl game. (Won’t that be a dream matchup–Richt v. Tuberville!) Thus, Georgia will finish with a winning record. Georgia fans (being Georgia fans) will consider it a springboard to a 2011 championship year!

They have broken down late in the season every year since Spurrier has been there, and they seem to be doing it again this year. Blowing it against Kentucky, playing poorly against Vandy. Tennessee isn’t a very good team, but they do have some good players, and all it takes for the upset is for one of them to have a good game..and for South Carolina to not show up to play.

Could we cut out all the barn comments? Really? Are you all so ignorant. Are you all aware of what began civillization as we know it? AGRICULTURE.

Auburn is the leading college in the country, and possibly the world in Agriculture innovation. Plagues that destroy crops are being dealt with through Auburn’s programs. A growing need for more and more food requires advances in agricultural technology with which Auburn is at the forefront. I am proud of our football team, but above that I am proud that my college is a WORLDWIDE leader in the making the entire world a better place! So you all can take your “barner” and trailer comments and shove it.

Due to Auburn’s number one ranking, the SEC as a whole has been getting bashed nationwide. it is being said that the SEC is overrated.. making similar comments to what “Blue” did on page one. Without a doubt an unbeaten SEC team should be ranked number one in the nation due to the difficult in competition that a SEC team faces EVERY WEEK. Every SEC team with the exception of Tennessee is a powerhouse compared these idiots in the Northwest and Northeast, can’t we all stop arguing and be proud of the South’s football legacy?

Auburn went undefeated in 2004, and the team from that year had the most number 1 NFL draft picks in HISTORY. You all are calling Auburn a one hit wonder, but Auburn simply isn’t used to getting the credit it deserves. Auburn is an amazing football franchise with many undefeated seasons, one national championship, and a very impressive winning record. You guys need to stop being so negative. The Crimson Tide
Early newspaper accounts of the University’s football squad simply referred to them as the “varsity” or the “Crimson White.” The first nickname popular with the media was the “Thin Red Line,” which was used until 1906. Hugh Roberts, former sports editor of the Birmingham Age-Herald, is credited with coining the phrase “Crimson Tide” in an article describing the 1907 Iron Bowl played in Birmingham. The game was played in a sea of red mud with Auburn a heavy favorite to win. Alabama held Auburn to a 6-6 tie, thus graduating to their newfound nickname.

[edit] The Elephant
The elephant’s association with Alabama dates back to the 1930 football season when the Crimson Tide was led by Coach Wallace Wade. There are two stories about how Alabama became associated with the elephant.

Officially, following the 1930 game versus Ole Miss, Atlanta Journal sports writer Everett Strupper wrote:

“At the end of the quarter, the earth started to tremble, there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, ‘Hold your horses, the elephants are coming,’ and out stamped this Alabama varsity. It was the first time that I had seen it and the size of the entire eleven nearly knocked me cold, men that I had seen play last year looking like they had nearly doubled in size.”

Sports writers continued to refer to Alabama as the “Red Elephants” afterwards, referring to their crimson jerseys. The 1930 team shut out eight of ten opponents, allowing a total of only 13 points all season. The “Red Elephants” rolled up 217 points that season, including a 24-0 victory over Washington State in the Rose Bowl.

Another account attributes the Rosenberger’s Birmingham Trunk Company for the elephant association. Alabama used the Birmingham Trunk Company’s luggage to travel to the 1930 Rose Bowl. The luggage company’s trademark was a red elephant standing on a trunk. When the football team arrived in Pasadena, the reporters greeting them associated their large size with the elephants on their luggage.

Despite these early associations of the elephant to the University of Alabama, the university did not officially accept the elephant as university mascot until 1979. [1]

Alabama’s elephant mascot is known as “Big Al

I can’t believe we’re talking about possibly winning a Division after losing to USC (east), Arkansas, and Miss St., but here we are. I’m guessing that Mr.McGarity and CMR had a little “sit-down” to discuss the future of the program and who would participate in that future. Even though UGA didn’t get blown out in any of our losses, we looked lackadaisical at best. I fault coaching, or lack thereof, for that. While I’m optimistic about the rest of the season, let’s remember that we’ve only beaten the state of TN in the SEC, not the likes of UF, AU, & Bama. The good news is that the wins were blowouts and we seem to be clicking……. Momentum is huge in CFB, hopefully it’ll continue. If we beat UF pretty good, I’m sure the War Eagles, Tigers, Bears, whatever they are, will sweat a little more about the upcoming contest. I’m sure they hate the targets on their backs as much as any team, and are a little focused on the Iron Bowl.

Serious Dawg fans need to start organizing and demanding that Richt be fired. Otherwise, sports writers will be asking the same questions this time a year from now.

Richt represents mediocrity. Saban and Meyer represent excellence and championships. Richt simply isn’t in their class, nor will he ever be. Richt would have to be incredibly lucky to win the division, and the odds against him winning the SEC championship would be at least 50:1.

Those are the simple facts, and there’s no amount of enthusiasm or cheerleading or Top 5 recruiting classes that can get around it.

Not really. The Big 12 is a joke because it’s been Texas/Oklahoma dominating one division with nobody in the other. This has been going on for awhile now. The SEC East is having a flukish feeling down year while the SEC West is as strong or stronger top to bottom as any in the country. I don’t think this would be much of a black eye, and don’t expect it to happen anyway. When all is said and done I think the UK/USCe game will look like an outlier and USCe will be playing in the Dome after beating Florida.

Newton is weak at passing? I suppose that’s why he is the third rated passer in the entire NCAA this week.

As for Saban having a plan: Ellis Johnson, South Carolina’s defensive guru was going to have a plan to shut Newton down. Auburn racked up 485 yards. John Chavis, LSU’s defensive guru was going to shut Newton down. Auburn racked up over 500 yards. Each of those teams was leading the SEC in total defense before they played Auburn. Saban can plan all he wants to, it won’t help.

Here’s a thought about plans: When some writer told Mike Tyson that such-and-such a boxer “had a plan to beat him”, Tyson replied: “They all have as plan until I hit ‘em”. Everybody has a plan to stop Auburn. The plans look great until Auburn hits ‘em.

There are times when statistics don’t tell the whole story. Cam has rackd up massive stats on plays where safeties cheat up to stop the run and he lofts the ball over everyone. I saw some of the ULM game and this happened multiple times. LSU’s plan was fairly solid overall except they kept crashing the ends trying to light him up. The team that will shut Cam down (somewhat anyway) is a team that has D-linemen big and strong enough to hold linemen at the point of attack so the linebackers can roam free and pursue. You want your linemen to be disciplined, not getting too far upfield. This will obviously give Cam enough time in the pocket to make a sandwich before throwing if he so chooses, but from what I’ve seen of him he ain’t gonna beat you throwing short and intermediate passes through zones. He just doesn’t read well enough to do it imo. If you focus on catching and tackling him for a short gain instead of trying to blow him up every play you’ll have a chance at slowing him down enough to beat them. With (a hopefully healthy) Dareus, Chapman, and Murphy all over 300 lbs. I think Bama has the D-line to execute such a plan.

As far as the pups go, I have been pretty much spot on. I said 8-4 would be a “GREAT” season, but that will never happen. I fould my picks from the spring, and had them losing to SC, Ark., Missy St., with Colorado as a toss-up. The reso of the way, I have them losing to the Gators and Auburn with GT as a toss-up. I have been astounded at the delusional puppy bloggers who actually thought they could win 10-11 games with their creampuff schedule. Alabama synopsis.

This is Saban’s fourth season, and things have not gone entirely to plan. i.e…..we didn’t plan to tank it Columbia.

This (in my estimation) is the weakest defense he had fielded in those four years. Players consistenly miss assignments, are out of position, the pass rush has been weak, and the tackling suspect. However, there is visible imrpvement in all of those areas. Two weeks of rest, and a healthy Darius and Upshaw should work wonders.

The offense is burdened by inconsistent run blocking, and confusion (in the OL) on blitz assignments. McElroy has been down more often than Linda Lovelace. I do not see any improvement on those two issues. UT planted McElroy several times last Saturday night. Those types of hits….when delivered by LSU, or Nick Fairley of AU will result in the insertion of backup AJ McCarron.

Special Teams (a major worry because of the attrition from graduation has been a pleasant surprise. Bama may be better on Special Teams than any time during Saban’s tenure.

Assuning the two weeks to get ready for LSU pays dividends, and the OL issues are at least mitigated, this team should finish strong.

Can they beat AU, and Cam Newton? Good question, and I don’t have the answer, but I like Bama’s chances.

To no one in particular, Alabama is 11th nationally in yards gained, 31st in yards allowed for a 21 average ranking. As a point of reference Auburn is 4th and 77th respectively, for a 40.5 average ranking. Auburn has gained 46 yards per game more but allowed 61 more per game. In terms of point differential Bama is at +174(274-100) overall, +59(140-81) in SEC play. Aubie is +121(309-188) overall, +43(178-135) in SEC play. Both teams have played 8 games (5 SEC)and, even with a loss, Bama has been better overall with an average SEC score of 28-16 vs. 36-27 for Aubie. Considering that Aubie has played its three toughest SEC foes to date at home, these stats are the reason many folks believe Bama to be the better squad. Will be fun to see.

I am a Tech fan. I just know what BAMA has accomplished over the last 2 years.
Since Jan 3 2009
Auburn…….16-5
Oregon…….17-3
Boise St….20-0
TCU……….20-1
Missouri….14-7
Utah………17-3
Bama…….21-1
Bama’s schedule is so much harder than Boise St and TCU for damn sure.

Bama’s young on defense but they have great atheletes. What’s missing is one dominating player with intelligence, and Leadership skills. A.K.A. Rolondo….Will someone step up. Auburn’s defense really stepped up IMO against LSU. Field position was a huge LSU advantage….Herbstreet missed that point totally. He really bungled his view of Auburn I thought.

I think if Boise or TCU go to the BCSCG over a one loss SEC Champion the game will suffer from a ratings problem. It would be disastrous for the network and advertisers. I can’t defend a two or more loss Champion though.

Alphare, I think it’s a mindset change for GMac that hopefully happened already. Our defense is not good enough for the offense to just protect the ball like it was last year. We need explosive plays. We don’t want him to be completely careless with the ball but if there’s some risk/reward involved in then so be it. In the USCe game he refused to take a shot downfield even down by a bunch.

With Auburn’s running game it will be tough to get them off the field unless they self destruct, aka UK. And it’s not all Newton, although his presence makes everyone else look better. They have three good backs. Fannin seems to have Ealey type traits fumbling.

Auburn’s defense made a marked improvement against LSU, we’ll have to see if it’s sustainable. If Georgia somehow comes out of Jacksonville with a win, I suspect there will be some Auburn fans sweating a bit.

I guess, but LSU is the 110th ranked passing offense at 139ypg. Aubie held them to 128, so I guess that’s something; Aubie has been a respectable 28th vs. the run and held LSU to 115 on the ground. LSU’s inability to pass- like, at ALL – is what makes me think Bama might roll ‘em a bit next week. Nothing too outlandish because LSU does play D, but I think Bama can get well into the 20s. Ok…Lets be realistic about this Georgia football team. I bleed red and black so I am a bit biased. Georgia is playing alot better because it’s Defense. Grantham has them playing very well, especially against the run. Our Offense should be good and AJ has helped us since his return. The thing that SEC fans have to realize is that Georgia vs. Florida, Georgia vs. Auburn, Georgia vs. Georgia Tech are huge rival games. These games are won and lost on emotion, heart, and sure will. I understand that talent still plays huge factor but I really like Georgia’s chances going down the stretch simply because in these types of rival games anyone can beat anyone but this Georgia team has ALOT to prove after a dreadful start!! Also a loss to Florida and this team is right back where they were before Tennessee, and thats under the dawg house!!

The bottom line is this. Alabama will NOT lose another game. To Saban, this is not an option. You have to remember that over half of Alabama’s players have only lost 1 game in their careers Cam Newton IS Auburn. Without him, they are just an SEC team like the rest of them. Saban will be the only coach with a plan for Newton. Guaranteed. Just look at Florida without Tebow. Georgia blew any chance they had when they lost to SCAR. Florida blew any chance they had when they lost to Mississippi State. SCAR will win at least 2 of the 3 SEC games that they have left and remember, they are the team that did the “impossible” by beating Alabama. I am predicting SCAR will win the East and Alabama will beat Auburn to win the West. It’s the only way Saban and Spurrier would have it guys…….a rematch is meant to be.

So a team from Idaho could be in the South Eastern Conference? Louisiana Tech is one of the “very best teams in college football?” Who are these “giants” this team in blue has killed?

Cam Newtons legs will do more to determine if bama loses another game, than D(rhymes with Nick) Saban’s inner need to be constantly told how great he is, will.

Doesn’t a copy of a copy of a copy lose a little resolution?

I’ll go on record as saying that I wasn’t too happy with the decision to hire Nick Saban. I’d have preferred someone with ties to the school, and someone that understood what it meant to coach at Alabama. Saban is the polar opposite. He doesn’t care about any of the above.

However…after almost four seasons, I have to admit that the guy is as good as it gets when it comes to CFB coaches. His organizational skills, and his attention to detail are on a level that I’ve never seen. Bryant wasn’t as good…..there…I’ve said it.

Watching Dooley this season illustrates how a person can know all of the things necessary to be a successful coach. His father was one, and he worked for Saban long enough to understand all of the ramifications involved,

He hasn’t made that leap (yet), but I suspect he may be a good one. He just isn’t there at this writing….he’s a copy of a copy of a copy.

JB I totally agree. Auburn is too one sided and an already thin D is banged up. We had walk-ons playing against LSU. But the one thing the Tigers keep proving is they just find a way to keep scoring or get key stops when they just have to happen. Not the way I would design a team for sure. UGA-AU will be a typical close game down into the fourth and then I see Newton doing what he does best, wear down the D for a late push to get us over the hump. But alas, only conjecture and hope until they’re on the Plains and showing us all what both teams have. We wont know till it’s done. Good luck, I know we’ll need it.

To SadDawg……It is ALWAYS about the coaching. BSU is proof of that. All of the kids know how to play football. It’s how well they are coached that determines the season. It’s coaching that caused SCAR’s 2 loses…..yaning garcia against Auburn……not kicking a field goal against UK. In BAMA’s case…..not running the ball in the 1st half against SCAR. Coaching decisions have caused all of these losses. Same thing with UGA….coaching and strategy changes in the defense etc, etc…

From Wikipedia.com:
The oval “G” logo was created in 1961 by Packers equipment manager Dad Braisher. The team actually used a number of different logos prior to 1961, but the “G” is the only logo that has ever appeared on the helmet.[13] Although other organizations, notably the University of Georgia and Grambling State University, utilize a similar logo, the Packers were the first to employ it and hold the trademark for it. [14] However, the University of Georgia does hold some rights to the logo and was not required to remove the “G” logo as Grambling State University was because Vince Dooley slightly redesigned the “G” logo in 1964. Green Bay’s current, redesigned “G” logo is modeled after the University of Georgia’s redesign of the original “G” logo.[citation needed]

From Wiki

he oval “G” logo was created in 1961 by Packers equipment manager George “Dad” Braisher. To most people’s minds, the “G” stands for “Green Bay”. However, when the logo was designed and adopted, it was determined the “G” would stand for “Greatness”. The team actually used a number of different logos prior to 1961, but the “G” is the only logo that has ever appeared on the helmet.[34] Although the Packers have granted limited permission to other organizations to utilize a similar logo, notably the University of Georgia and Grambling State University, the Packers hold the trademark for it.

I made my point pretty clearly. When Auburn went undefeated in 04 people said they sucked because they played Citadel. Florida played the Citadel in 08 and no one said a word about it. Now that Auburn is 8-0, people are calling Auburn lucky and that Auburn is a one man team even though it takes more than one person to win a football game. I do see your point about Cam, which is a huge factor because he carries the offense……….like EVERY qb is supposed to do.

Colts: Take out Manning and they instantly suck.

Pats: Take out Brady and they suck.

The QB is supposed to be the leader of the team. Auburn has it’s leader and they are all having fun. This year was supposed to be an ok year for Auburn. Cam has helped Auburn become a great team and the chemistry is better than any school in the nation, say maybe Oregon.

Another funny story about Pat Dye:

In 1990, just before graduating from high school, one of my classmates received a Navy scholarship to attend Auburn. I accompanied him to an Auburn booster club meeting to be honored. Pat Dye was the guest speaker. His speech was badly slurred and he was rambling. He came by our table to congratulate my classmate and smelled like liquor.

yeah….I’d label AU as the “best fan base”. I didn’t see too many of my fellow Bama fans showing the type of support that AU gets in hard times.

This is just….false. There is one main difference between us and Auburn- we get more bandwagoners. Why? Because Bama has a much more established brand over the years like the Cowboys and Yankees. Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, USC all have the same thing. When we’re winning the fanbase triples. When times are tough those people go away. That doesn’t mean there aren’t as many, and probably significantly more, hard core Alabama folks out there. And when it comes to supporting Auburn myself, I don’t hate them. Hate is reserved for Tennessee. Auburn is just the annoying little brother that will have good days but will ultimately never be quite as successful as you are. Pat ‘em on the head and send ‘em along their way.

I really wonder what’s up with these nasty comments about Georgia from Alabama and Florida fans. You’ve both had some great teams and look to continue. It’s not the teams or all the fans it’s the individuals who take the time to post this crap on another teams blog. Hard to understand but I have the feeling that your taking your teams success too seriouly and personally. Lots of Alabama fans now. Where have you been before Saban.
Just a prediction, Alabama will beat Auburn and win the SEC. Although, I’d like to see Georgia win out, I think they’ll beat Tech and have no idea if they can beat Auburn or Florida – odds against it. It’s over the top having to play Florida in Jacksonville every year, a short bus ride for them, and them having a bye week. That has happened far too much over the years. A practice that I bet McGarity will put a stop to before too long.

Unlike BAMA fans(and UGA fans up thru about week 2 every year), I haven’t predicted we will win the next 5 NC in a row ..I simply said after seeing what Au did to ARK and LSU, nobody can stop cam or outscore us..we will have to turn the ball over a lot to lose..and we might.

The main rub on people is I just don”t kiss a** unless there is a paycheck involved, everyone else gets my real feelings face to face. Everyone should be that way.

Today people were talking about how D Dooley should appologize or avoid making FACTUAL comparisons, because people are stupid and don’t know history, and will take it the wrong way. Let’s take things one game at a time, shall we? UGA needs to focus on the Gators this week, and nothing else. Lose this game and the season is in the Tidy Bowl.

I always say things are never as good as they seem or as bad as they seem. Upside: UGA could win out and in the process make a major statement both this season and in the preseason polls for next year. Downside: not bowl eligible, sparking major fireworks in the offseason. Most likely: well, I’d say 7-5 with a bus-ride bowl bid.

I don’t care how many NC’s that UF has won to date, we are talking about the 2010 season and not seasons past. Congrats to the Gators on past success, but those NC’s aren’t going to matter this year. The Dawgs have the better team this year, and if they execute worthy of their talent, then they will win on Sat. Murray is the better QB, hands down. Say what you will about UGA this year, but from an outsider’s perspective, they have improved tremendously since the 4 losses. I don’t think that their dominant wins over the last few games are flukes or b/c it was against cellar teams. I see them beating the Gators, although the game may be close. Aaron Murray is impressive and that Ealey kid can play. Coupled with AJ Green, this team continues to get better and will give any team fits. I can also see them beating Auburn as well, although I hope my team gets the honor of beating them as the #1 ranked team. I will be rooting for UGA this weekend. RTR!

Yes, sir.

Georgia would have done far worse had we played the # 1 team in The SEC Alabama and the # 1 Defensive team in The SEC LSU, neither of which do we play. They also did a FAR BETTER job than us vs Missy State who beat us in a rout.

In the meantime, we also beat Kentucky by not nearly as well as the rout Florida had over them.

And, we LOST to the likes of Colorado a losing team with a losing record even with their win over us, a loss which Florida has nothing to compare.

All in all, Florida is a LOT BETTER FOOTBALL TEAM than we are.

Hey Tator Train! You know, I seem to recall Georgia Playing Bosie State about 5 years ago and we beat the stuffings out of them in Athens!
Here read this!
Well folks, that is what happens when teams with smaller, slower, and generally well coached players run into faster, bigger, and much better coached teams. Georgia completely dismantled Boise State 48-13 in Athens.

Most of the offseason, many in the media and blog community labeled Boise’s offense as “too high powered” for UGA. How would the Bulldogs manage to hang with the 45+ points per game high flying attack of the Mustangs?

The answer? By playing conservative on defense, stopping the run and not falling for the play action. All the while, exposing the complete lunacy of the Bronco defense to the world.

[Photo: Imagine how bad it would have been if Hawkins wasn't a master motivator? The well read guru should consider the book above before taking on another elite BCS team.]

The Broncos managed just 13 points and 292 yards of total offense. It should be noted that 135 of those yards and all 13 of those points came after UGA was already up 38-0 and had begun to substitute liberally on defense.

YOu know what, we will do it again if Boise Plays us! SEC is by far the toughest conference. You might be able to beat a few teams but you would never even come close to being undefeated or even being ranked number 1 until you learn how to play defense in our conference.
