Georgia can beat Gators, lose to Auburn, and still win SEC East

I  put this list together yesterday as sort of a sanity check of what could happen in the whacky SEC East as we move into the stretch drive. It doesn’t include every scenario, such as Kentucky winning its last three conference games with Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee to finish 4-4. If that happens, I will gladly stand corrected.

Here are SOME possibilities, not all, of what could happen to determine a champion in the SEC East race.  The most fascinating one is that if Georgia beats Florida, the Bulldogs could still lose to Auburn and go to the SEC championship game in Atlanta. In that respect, the game in Jacksonville is huge to both teams.

Have fun.

First, the teams:

SOUTH CAROLINA (3-2 SEC)

Wins: Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt

Losses: Auburn, Kentucky

Games left: vs. Tennessee (Saturday), vs. Arkansas (Nov. 6), at Florida (Nov. 13)

FLORIDA (2-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Kentucky

Losses: Alabama, LSU, Miss. State

Games left: Georgia (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Vanderbilt (Nov. 6), vs. South Carolina Nov. 13.

GEORGIA (3-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky

Losses: South Carolina, Arkansas, Miss. State

Games left: Florida (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Auburn (Nov. 13).

THE SCENARIOS

1. South Carolina controls its own destiny. If the Gamecocks beat Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida they win the SEC East at 6-2.

2. Florida controls its own destiny. If the Gators beat Georgia, Vanderbilt and South Carolina they will be 5-3 in the conference. Florida would win the tiebreaker with South Carolina if both are 5-3 and Georgia would be 4-4 at best.

3. Georgia doesn’t control its destiny because it lost to South Carolina on Sept. 11. But if it beats Florida and Auburn, and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the Division. Georgia will be 5-3 while South Carolina and Florida will be 4-4 at best.

4. If Georgia beats Florida and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the division whether or not it beats Auburn on Nov. 13. Here’s how:

If Georgia beats Florida but loses to Auburn, Georgia will be 4-4 in the SEC but 4-1 in the Eastern Division (loss to South Carolina).

If Florida loses to Georgia but beats Vanderbilt and South Carolina, it will be 4-4 in the conference but also 4-1 in the Division (Loss to Georgia).

If South Carolina drops two of its last three conference games and one of those losses is to Florida it will be 4-4 in the conference but no better than 3-2 in the division (Losses to Kentucky and Florida).

South Carolina is thus eliminated from the three-way tie at 4-4. Georgia wins the division on the head to head win over Florida.

That should keep us all busy for a while.

Anyone who thinks UGA will win the SEC east is smoking some bad weed.

It could also be really, really good stuff.

Herschell Walker has a higher chance of coming out of the closet than UGA winning over Florida.

“Uh huh, so what you’re saying is the head coach, the guy who controls everything about the football team, had nothing to do with winning. Oh, and Tebow didn’t play the whole game in 2006, Leak did.” He’s obviously showing how well he can coach and control this year without his golden child.

“I bet you said the same thing when you went to Colorado.” I’d rather have lost to Colorado the way we did (gave it to them) than lose at home to MSU at your homecoming game. You only put up 7 points AT HOME during your homecoming game? The Alumni must be proud of the strides you’ve made under the great Corch Urban Crier.

“I had no idea UGAY was a pro football team. Last time I checked, PITT had the SB MVP.” Don’t forget about Terrell Davis and the mile high salute homeboy! Run an tell dat!

“Against the worst teams in the SEC. Your team has yet to beat a ranked team. In fact, you have lost to every ranked opponent you’ve played.” Please reference a ranked team you’ve beaten this year? Are those crickets chirping?

“That same team that beat FL beat UGAY by many more points.” At least we didn’t lose to them at home!

So, who should SC pull for this weekend – FL or GA? It’s a big numbers game right now for FL/SC/GA. We will ALL be sitting on the end of our seats for the next few weeks.

Your rebuttal doesn’t hold any water. I’m not a Florida fan but Urban has done more in 5 years than anyone at UGA has done in the history of Georgia football.

Reality,

Here’s a dose of reality for you. Danny Sheridan, who sets the line for USA Today and several of the big Vegas casinos, stated today that if the Iron bowl were played today Bama would be a 5 1/2 pt favorite. The reality is that the experts know Bama is still better than AU. Deal with it and deal with the imminent beatdown coming when you come to T-town.

Auburn, ask Florida about putting all your hopes and dreams in ONE PLAYER………FAct is, Meyer has done a horrible job of preparing and putting these back to back to rated recruiting classes in a position to win….He has failed to develop All these great recruits into a TEAM. Ya’ll called out my coach( RICHT), I’m calling out yours. Meyer has failed. Losing three games in a row with that roster is unacceptable. It’s coaching. Now, you won’t expose yourselves to us on this blog, but every Gator fan has to look at the roster, this program, this coach, and ask, why three loses in a row. One Urban Meyer is the answer !!!! This team is underdeveloped !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately Reality is mostly correct, and the nation does not care about UGA and will not care until they beat Auburn in a couple of weeks. Then they will notice. I can only assume we will lose once again to the Gators (we alwasys do) but the Dawgs will beat the Tiggers in Ralph Shug stadium as usual and spoil their season.

Here’s a thought for Clemson fans. What if SC wins the East and beats Clemson for the 2nd straight year? Clearly that would be considered SC bypassing Clemson. What then? Will Clemson fire its AD and piss-poorly qualified HC to regain ground but THIS TIME AROUND actually hire a qualified candidate? Or will it continue to do the same-old same-old, gunning for roll-back pricing in the coaching clearance bin? I’m thinking the latter, since Clemson has no idea (nor any desire) to build a winning football program.

Here’s my take on SEC football so far.

Georgia: They’ve managed to beat up on some bad SEC teams. Big deal. They will lost to Florida and Auburn and will therefore be left out of a bowl game.

LSU: They will most likely lose to Alabama because they don’t really have an offense.

Arkansas: Will win out.

Alabama: Will easily beat LSU and will struggle against GA State (KIDDING) and will lose to Auburn in a close game. Auburn does well playing in Tuscaloosa.

Florida: They will win out and get destroyed by FSU.

Every other team: No one cares.

The most realistic scenario: UGA loses to Florida and Auburn, and handily defeats Idaho State, which causes the average Bulldog fan to dream again of national glory. It then comes down to the GT game to determine bowl eligibility. The Shreveport chamber of commerce exerts its muscle and “arranges” for a ‘dog victory. It means too much to the economy to allow all those affluent Georgia fans from spending their money at a bowl site.
UGA will meet and beat Texas Tech in the bowl game. (Won’t that be a dream matchup–Richt v. Tuberville!) Thus, Georgia will finish with a winning record. Georgia fans (being Georgia fans) will consider it a springboard to a 2011 championship year!

Its not that I don’t think Georgia can win out, but with South Carolina…who knows what team will show up. They have broken down late in the season every year since Spurrier has been there, and they seem to be doing it again this year. Blowing it against Kentucky, playing poorly against Vandy. Tennessee isn’t a very good team, but they do have some good players, and all it takes for the upset is for one of them to have a good game..and for South Carolina to not show up to play.

I can see them winning the rest of their games, but I can also just as easily see them losing to Arkansas and Florida

Could we cut out all the barn comments? Really? Are you all so ignorant. Are you all aware of what began civillization as we know it? AGRICULTURE.

Auburn is the leading college in the country, and possibly the world in Agriculture innovation. Plagues that destroy crops are being dealt with through Auburn’s programs. A growing need for more and more food requires advances in agricultural technology with which Auburn is at the forefront. I am proud of our football team, but above that I am proud that my college is a WORLDWIDE leader in the making the entire world a better place! So you all can take your “barner” and trailer comments and shove it.

Due to Auburn’s number one ranking, the SEC as a whole has been getting bashed nationwide. it is being said that the SEC is overrated.. making similar comments to what “Blue” did on page one. Without a doubt an unbeaten SEC team should be ranked number one in the nation due to the difficult in competition that a SEC team faces EVERY WEEK. Every SEC team with the exception of Tennessee is a powerhouse compared these idiots in the Northwest and Northeast, can’t we all stop arguing and be proud of the South’s football legacy?

Auburn went undefeated in 2004, and the team from that year had the most number 1 NFL draft picks in HISTORY. You all are calling Auburn a one hit wonder, but Auburn simply isn’t used to getting the credit it deserves. Auburn is an amazing football franchise with many undefeated seasons, one national championship, and a very impressive winning record. You guys need to stop being so negative. If people weren’t so angry and idiotic online, you wouldn’t get stupid Auburn fans posting on here.
