Georgia can beat Gators, lose to Auburn, and still win SEC East

I  put this list together yesterday as sort of a sanity check of what could happen in the whacky SEC East as we move into the stretch drive. It doesn’t include every scenario, such as Kentucky winning its last three conference games with Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee to finish 4-4. If that happens, I will gladly stand corrected.

Here are SOME possibilities, not all, of what could happen to determine a champion in the SEC East race.  The most fascinating one is that if Georgia beats Florida, the Bulldogs could still lose to Auburn and go to the SEC championship game in Atlanta. In that respect, the game in Jacksonville is huge to both teams.

Have fun.

First, the teams:

SOUTH CAROLINA (3-2 SEC)

Wins: Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt

Losses: Auburn, Kentucky

Games left: vs. Tennessee (Saturday), vs. Arkansas (Nov. 6), at Florida (Nov. 13)

FLORIDA (2-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Kentucky

Losses: Alabama, LSU, Miss. State

Games left: Georgia (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Vanderbilt (Nov. 6), vs. South Carolina Nov. 13.

GEORGIA (3-3)

Wins: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky

Losses: South Carolina, Arkansas, Miss. State

Games left: Florida (Jacksonville, Saturday), at Auburn (Nov. 13).

THE SCENARIOS

1. South Carolina controls its own destiny. If the Gamecocks beat Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida they win the SEC East at 6-2.

2. Florida controls its own destiny. If the Gators beat Georgia, Vanderbilt and South Carolina they will be 5-3 in the conference. Florida would win the tiebreaker with South Carolina if both are 5-3 and Georgia would be 4-4 at best.

3. Georgia doesn’t control its destiny because it lost to South Carolina on Sept. 11. But if it beats Florida and Auburn, and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the Division. Georgia will be 5-3 while South Carolina and Florida will be 4-4 at best.

4. If Georgia beats Florida and South Carolina loses two of its last three conference games, Georgia will win the division whether or not it beats Auburn on Nov. 13. Here’s how:

If Georgia beats Florida but loses to Auburn, Georgia will be 4-4 in the SEC but 4-1 in the Eastern Division (loss to South Carolina).

If Florida loses to Georgia but beats Vanderbilt and South Carolina, it will be 4-4 in the conference but also 4-1 in the Division (Loss to Georgia).

If South Carolina drops two of its last three conference games and one of those losses is to Florida it will be 4-4 in the conference but no better than 3-2 in the division (Losses to Kentucky and Florida).

South Carolina is thus eliminated from the three-way tie at 4-4. Georgia wins the division on the head to head win over Florida.

That should keep us all busy for a while.

I appreciate the zeal in the article, but let’s beat Florida first. It was not so long ago that this was a 1-4 team. Sure they are playing inspired ball, but it should not even be talked about right now.

Anyone can play inspired ball against lower tier football teams.

Who among the SEC and Pac-10 has not put up 40 points on TN and Vandy?

When dawgs play gators, dawgs will be full of jitters, like fumbles, missing catches, penalties …, while FL will step up a notch.

So I don’t really expect UGA to win. I will be happy for UGA if they can make a game out of it. It’ll be a real rivalry when UGA can beat FL more often.

I think UGA got well against some weaker teams… but Florida and Auburn are likely to make them sick again. I really think the MSU/UF game will be viewed as a big upset in hindsight. UF was licking wounds coming off two tough losses and had to go on the road while still carrying their perceived Gator “mystique” with them into Starkville. Besides, we want Aubie undefeated coming into Tuscaloosa.

UGA’s summer of fun ( Caleb, Tavarres, AJ and his wardrobe sale, Waushuan ( twice) and Dontavious and Montrez and Metenberger, etc.) caused UGA’s hard working, dedicated players to lose focus come game day. They were badly distracted by all of that crap. They were a divided football team. We ended up 1-4 and that for me was the straw on Richt’ back that broke it. He is too lax with his boys and they know that he will love them and forgive them and ah, um, PTL.
These young thugs ( all schools now do have some thugs, not just UGA ) do not respect that ……………so they slam into parked cars on campus at 400 am, manhandle women and such ………and booze it out on the road, etc. 1-4 is what they worked on with their night life. They were not SPARTAN TOUGH. That means ready to kick a– and take no prisoners. UGA players are generally thought of as SOFT. Thie summer of fun proves it.

If CMR can run the table with no more losses and play Alabama or Auburn in the Dome and end up in a decent mid to lower level bowl, then he possibly might be due one more year.

Regardless of this ugly season’s out come ……….if not fired, he will be put on notice for 2011 and he had better sign one fabulous class of running backs and more running backs and linebackers and D linemen that are huge for in the middle play.

Since dawgtards seem to love living in the past, how about remembering the Jan Kemp trial, which exposed UGA and Vince Dooley for the jokes that they were. My favorite quote from the trial was this one:

O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

The best thing about the trial was that it completely killed Vince Dooley’s shot at Congress, since he was exposed as a fraud and a cheat during the trial. Make no mistake – Dooley knew everything that was going on.

Nothing has changed in the almost three decades since the trial. If anything, the abuses are even worse. Exhibit #1: Jim Harrick and son.

Today the players are even more illiterate and felonious and, well, just plain stupid, as evidenced by their arrest records and record number of penalties. Even Vince Dooley couldn’t have controlled this mob, much less Mark Richt. And now even the AD is a drunk debaucherer.

There’s a reason why UGA is known as The Cesspool of the South.

LSU will have one more loss btw BAMA and Ark.

So, Auburn and BAMA will be SEC West champ. Auburn or BAMA will be in NC if either wins out. So, the small state of Alabama will have a good chance to be the National Champ again.

How many players with criminal arrests will participate on Saturday? Georgia will likely field over 20 players with rap sheets. We tend to focus only on this year’s arrests, but they are cumulative. UF will have fewer, but together, there may be as many as 30 during the game. That plus two self-anointed saints as coaches. It will be an interesting game. Does Richt have any of his well-known gimmicks in store? Perhaps a new dance step? I can hardly wait!

As I understand it each school makes its own schedule. Because of Bama’s schedule this year they made a rule about it. Seems that an easy fix would be to disallow division teams from taking their byes before a division game unless both do. This way no more than three teams could possibly schedule a bye before any given team and all schedules would be somewhat equalized within divisions, which is the most important thing since there is a SECCG.

Va Tech lost to Boise State. So, most causal college football observers suggest “that proves Boise is great”. Nope, sorry. See, the ACC is a joke. Look at the out of conferences debacles this year. They are a laughing stock league.

Boise State came to Athens about 5 years back and that game was a rout within 12 minutes. It did get closer at the very end like 43-28 but it was 43-12 with the second half barely underway. Now, my facts are not 100% crystal clear but they are close ……………UGA routed Boise and the Boise QB was supposedly an ALL WORLD QB ……………until he saw the speed of the SEC caliber defenders.

Hawaii is another Boise State type of program ……….. their QB was also thought to be All World. Please. SEC is KING.

Go Dogs and Goooooooooo SEC.
