Dawgs, Jackets win; Wisconsin upsets No. 1 Ohio State

The Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Arkansas at Auburn: This game features the two hottest quarterbacks in the SEC in Ryan Mallett of Arkansas and Cameron Newton of Auburn. I’m giving the edge to Auburn at home and because the Tigers will be able to run the ball with Newton and Michael Dyer and limit Mallett’s posssessions.  Auburn will also play a little more defense with Nick Fairley up front. Auburn 27, Arkansas 21.

2. Vanderbilt at Georgia: The Bulldogs finally showed some signs of life last week in beating Tennessee 41-14 and should be able to take care of a Vanderbilt team  that is still having some issues on offense (11th in the SEC in scoring) when running back Warren Norman does not have a big game.  UGA VIII starts with a win. Georgia 28, Vanderbilt 10.

3. Middle Tennessee State at Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets take a break from conference action to play the Blue Raiders of Rick Stockstill. MTSU will be playing its second game with quarterback Dwight Dasher, who sat out the first four games of the season on suspension. Dasher is a good athlete but Tech rolls and starts getting ready for next week’s big trip to Clemson. Georgia Tech 31, MTSU 10.

4. South Carolina at Kentucky:  South Carolina’s upset of No. 1 Alabama last Saturday has the Gamecocks’ fans dreaming of their first-ever trip to the SEC championship game. But those same fans have seen their hopes dashed before when the Gamecocks have stumbled after a big win. If Kentucky RB Derrick Locke (shoulder) can’t go, that changes this game significantly. The Cats’ Randall Cobb is good, but South Carolina wins because of defense. South Carolina 24, Kentucky 20.

5. Ohio State at Wisconsin: Ohio State just moved to No. 1 but the Buckeyes have to play on Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium, where the Badgers are 40-4 since 2004. Make that 41-4. Our Upset Special for this week:  Wisconsin 17, Ohio State 16.

6. Maryland at Clemson: After three straight losses to Auburn, Miami, and North Carolina, Clemson really needs a win against the 4-1 Terps. Maryland has won three of its last four meetings with the Tigers but Clemson gets it done at home. Clemson 24, Maryland 20.

7. Ole Miss at Alabama: Yes, I know. Ole Miss has had a week off and Alabama is coming of its first regular season loss since the 2007 season. Doesn’t matter. Alabama and Nick Saban are mad, refocused, and have to take it out on somebody. That somebody will be Houston Nutt and the Rebels. Alabama 31, Ole Miss 10.

8. Mississippi State at Florida: For only the second time since Urban Meyer became coach in 2005, Florida has lost two straight games. The Gators have never lost three in a row under Meyer. It will be an ugly game because Florida’s offense is, well, ugly. Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, the former OC at Florida, will not have a pleasant Homecoming. Florida 21, Miss. State 10.

9. Texas at Nebraska: Some of the national spice got taken out of this game when the Longhorns dropped two straight games to UCLA and Oklahoma. But the folks at Nebraska have had this one circled on the calendar since last December then they lost a controversial Big 12 championship game to the Longhorns. This will be the last time these two teams will meet as members of the Big 12. Nebraska wants it to be a game to remember. Nebraska 23, Texas 14.

10. North Carolina at Virginia: The Tar Heels have had a season of distractions but they are still very much in the ACC Coastal race. The Tar Heels haven’t won in Charlottesville since 1981. That changes Saturday. North Carolina 27, Virginia 20.

Julio’s championships? How did he contribute exactly? Why will he be an after thought compared to AJ if they both decide to go pro at the end of the season?

AJ Green- Better leaper, faster, drops fewer passes, plays in an offense that affords receivers opportunity for big stats and is used as a big play threat.

Julio Jones- Bigger and stronger, better runner after the catch, superior blocker, drops a few too many but offsets with some spectacular catches, plays in a run first offense and is utilized as a possession receiver. Also returns punts.

As some have said, either would start for most any team in the country and both will go in the first round. They are different types of players, both being very well suited for what they are asked to do. I haven’t seen any WR in college football grab a screen pass, stiff arm a CB to the ground, and get a big gain better than Julio. I’ll take either of them, thank you.

When your program gets relegated to the 12:15 starts and PPV games it hurts and right now UGA is on life support and major pain.

How many games has AJ played in the Georgia Dome? How many championship games has AJ played in?

Jeffries -best reciever in the conference
AJ second best reciever
JJ best overall reciever including blocking, and crunch time catches…and championships…

I think most any team would prefer Moss over T.O. if given the choice. Same with AJ and JJ. Case closed.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t agree with Julio being a bust. I’ve seen this guy make some pretty sweet catches. He is a very good WR. That being said, I’d still have to give the edge to AJ. There is not one NFL team that would not mind having either one.

I’d like to see AJ run some punts and kick offs back. I think his talent is not being used to the fullest. My opinion for what it’s worth!

Right now I don’t think AJ really wants to do too many OTHER THINGS to help his team. AJ is seeing NFL cash in his mind. I might be wrong but AJ ain’t going to risk an injury right now.

*** Bama Dude ***

How does a team get “WHOOPED” by another team, if they have the lead in the 4th quarter, and have an even statistical showing with the other team? You just sound dumber and dumber man, seriously , no offense. Ohio State did not get whooped as you say in that Rose Bowl. Go back and find some film.

Know when Ohio State DOES get whipped? Every single time they’ve ever played the SEC, that’s when! As another poster mentioned, UGA just pounded Tennessee. Les Miles is Les Miles, there’s no game he can’t lose and LSU was probably caught looking ahead to Florida the next week. See. that’s life in the SEC. Look at Bama. You play a very tough Arky team on the road, come home to face Florida, then still have to go on the road and play South Carolina. There are currently four SEC West teams ranked in the top 12 plus South Carolina. The PAC-10 pillow fights just aren’t impressive.

Good pick with Ohio State…your crystal ball seemed to be accurate in picking the ‘U’ over OSU earlier this season. I’m not saying that you aren’t right about this coming Saturday, but what’s with picking OSU to lose every these games? There hasn’t been a more consistant program over the past decade.

Tell me, Mr CFB…did you pick Oregon to win last year’s Rose Bowl too? I bet you did, hater.

Yes, troll, I would absonltely give Jones the nod in running after the catch. He is extremely difficult to get on the ground. A lot of people call him the T.O. to Green’s Moss, but I think he’ll end up used more like Michael Irvin to AJ’s Alvin Harper. One is a big, tough possession guy, the other stretches the field. Could you imagine them on the same team? Good god.

AJ is a great player..a play maker..but I agree with Delbert…he is an injury away with his frame.

JJ is a great playmaker and has a man’s body and will have a long NFL career and he will declare early…do you blame him.

Jeffries from USC…has the most upside…big, tall, fast and great hands…

Damn man, are you in your uncle’s basement in Birmingham just killing time until the next shift at 7-11? “Monkey”, good Lord, I wouldn’t want to sit by you during a game. I can just see the Alabama native now with a cigarette dangling in his mouth, Milwaukie’s Beast 24 oz beer in his hand, NASCAR hat on, and spewing crap about how Alabama Football was created right after Adam, and then Eve was third.

‘Bama Dude, why don’t you leave the south and come play football out of your cushy warm weather venues? Even your Georgia brethren cancelled their series with Oregon. Our athletic department has requested a home and home series with Florida, LSU, and Alabama now for at least the last 10 years. NOBODY will come out west. Pathetic. Georgia State in November , LOL, that’s just funny. Please help explain why 90,000+ people show up for a spring scrimmage. HAHA, nothing much to do down there but ‘wrastle’ gators, hunt $hit, and get on the dial up internet. Hey man, you want to take shots than I’ll fling it back your way.
