Dawgs, Jackets win; Wisconsin upsets No. 1 Ohio State

The Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Arkansas at Auburn: This game features the two hottest quarterbacks in the SEC in Ryan Mallett of Arkansas and Cameron Newton of Auburn. I’m giving the edge to Auburn at home and because the Tigers will be able to run the ball with Newton and Michael Dyer and limit Mallett’s posssessions.  Auburn will also play a little more defense with Nick Fairley up front. Auburn 27, Arkansas 21.

2. Vanderbilt at Georgia: The Bulldogs finally showed some signs of life last week in beating Tennessee 41-14 and should be able to take care of a Vanderbilt team  that is still having some issues on offense (11th in the SEC in scoring) when running back Warren Norman does not have a big game.  UGA VIII starts with a win. Georgia 28, Vanderbilt 10.

3. Middle Tennessee State at Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets take a break from conference action to play the Blue Raiders of Rick Stockstill. MTSU will be playing its second game with quarterback Dwight Dasher, who sat out the first four games of the season on suspension. Dasher is a good athlete but Tech rolls and starts getting ready for next week’s big trip to Clemson. Georgia Tech 31, MTSU 10.

4. South Carolina at Kentucky:  South Carolina’s upset of No. 1 Alabama last Saturday has the Gamecocks’ fans dreaming of their first-ever trip to the SEC championship game. But those same fans have seen their hopes dashed before when the Gamecocks have stumbled after a big win. If Kentucky RB Derrick Locke (shoulder) can’t go, that changes this game significantly. The Cats’ Randall Cobb is good, but South Carolina wins because of defense. South Carolina 24, Kentucky 20.

5. Ohio State at Wisconsin: Ohio State just moved to No. 1 but the Buckeyes have to play on Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium, where the Badgers are 40-4 since 2004. Make that 41-4. Our Upset Special for this week:  Wisconsin 17, Ohio State 16.

6. Maryland at Clemson: After three straight losses to Auburn, Miami, and North Carolina, Clemson really needs a win against the 4-1 Terps. Maryland has won three of its last four meetings with the Tigers but Clemson gets it done at home. Clemson 24, Maryland 20.

7. Ole Miss at Alabama: Yes, I know. Ole Miss has had a week off and Alabama is coming of its first regular season loss since the 2007 season. Doesn’t matter. Alabama and Nick Saban are mad, refocused, and have to take it out on somebody. That somebody will be Houston Nutt and the Rebels. Alabama 31, Ole Miss 10.

8. Mississippi State at Florida: For only the second time since Urban Meyer became coach in 2005, Florida has lost two straight games. The Gators have never lost three in a row under Meyer. It will be an ugly game because Florida’s offense is, well, ugly. Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, the former OC at Florida, will not have a pleasant Homecoming. Florida 21, Miss. State 10.

9. Texas at Nebraska: Some of the national spice got taken out of this game when the Longhorns dropped two straight games to UCLA and Oklahoma. But the folks at Nebraska have had this one circled on the calendar since last December then they lost a controversial Big 12 championship game to the Longhorns. This will be the last time these two teams will meet as members of the Big 12. Nebraska wants it to be a game to remember. Nebraska 23, Texas 14.

10. North Carolina at Virginia: The Tar Heels have had a season of distractions but they are still very much in the ACC Coastal race. The Tar Heels haven’t won in Charlottesville since 1981. That changes Saturday. North Carolina 27, Virginia 20.

Hey, mr. college football, how do you feel about alabama now? Especially after they lost 8 seniors on defense last year and have a young quarterback, and yet you still ranked them #1. Common sense.

BCS is terrible, my proposal went one better, including two more at large teams just like the BCS works now. The caveat is that the at large teams wouldn’t get a week off. Those four teams would play two games at a neutral site with the winners advancing to the 8 team playoff as the 7 and 8 seeds then going on the road. This gives the top six seeds a reward for winning a big time conference. Of course, I would want every conference to have a championship game as well.

So what’s your take G8R grad? Are you suggesting that Meyer needs to get all in or all out? Interesting read, no doubt.

Since I didn’t actually attend Alabama, and I simply jump on the bandwagon for whomever is the best team in the state, I will now change my allegiance to Auburn. Guess I need to go get a new wrap, and a couple cinder blocks for my trailer, it’s leaning pretty bad today from the 18 cases of twinkies I just stole from the Flowers bakery store.”

This is the state of Alabama we’re talking about, right? If it is then the other suggestion would be. After you get off work at the local Wal-Mart. Go back to your trailer and put that “Roll Tide” hat on, you know, that Tide detergent box with the two rolls of toilet paper sticking out the side. Don’t forget your case of ‘Bud’. Step outside of that trailer and yell “Roll Tide” every ten minutes just because it tends to make some kind of sense to a drunken elephant fanatic with a box on his head. By the way, clean up on isle 3 and don’t forget your mop this time.:)

I just offered a different opinion on the outcome of a certain game based on what has actually happened so far.

That doesn’t mean I am definitely right, nor did I convey that in the first place.

Most people can handle someone else having a different opinion.

Some people get all angry and attempt to discredit the other person based on something silly (like their college football allegiance).

G8R GRAD, The fault seems to be more the inability of UF fans to realize Teebow is gone and that their offense will suffer for it. He was built for Urban’s spread option. Brantley is not. Only a matter of time before Burton takes over.

Flordia will still be good for years to come, they have the talent. But the Teebows of the game dont come along everyday and have lots of programs to choose from. Think more of the Chris Leak years, you still won, but its not a fore gone conclusion that you will anymore.

You’re right, Bama got behind and couldn’t dig out. They were also coming off a big game vs. Florida and playing a very good team that considered the game to be their biggest in 40 years. No doubt in my mind that South Carolina is better than TCU or BSU, and I have seen all three play. Neither of the smaller schools would win a division in the SEC.

Living in Fla and being a Dawg fan,I have a great dis-respect for Bianci. With that said I agree with him. I see staff changes comming after this year on the offensive side. I have picked Miss St to be UF this weekend. I have afirend who’s kid is a freshman on the football team and was speaking with him on Wed. He says the older players have just about wrote this season off,and fans here in Fla feel the same way. I think its a good time to beat UF cause I dont think thier hearts are in it anymore. Mullen might get his signature win this Sat.

Arkansas at Auburn …the big wide receivers for Arkansas against weak DB’s for Auburn. Wide open Auburn and Newton against spotty LB’s for Arkansas. Can Auburn keep up the pressure for 4 out of the last 5 weeks?
Arkansas 38 Auburn 35 on a late field goal. No rolling Toomers Corner this weekend.

South Carolina at Kentucky….can USC keep up with the pressure of leading the East? Kentucky has been in every game except UF and they are at home. Spurrier saw what Auburn did last week and how Auburn folded in the second half and had to make a final drive to win. USC needs to keep up the intensity, something USC has had problems with after a big win.
Kentucky 28 USC 24

Mississippi State at UF….Dan Mullen was the ringmaster while at UF. Now he is erecting a Big Top Tent of his own in Starkville, but the players in his new gig are not the caliber he had at Florida.
UF will not lose three in a row…
UF 40 MSU 28

Ohio St. at Wisconsin
The annual every other year loss in Badgerland for The Buckeyes. Wisconsin needs this win more than the Buckeyes and will have a tie breaker over OSU with a win.
Wisconsin 31 Ohio St. 20

Vandy at UGA in Athens..the swagger is back against a very weak Commodore team..
AJ catches 3, Durham catches 1, Ealey runs for 1 , Murray runs for 1…in a blow out by halftime..
UGA 51 Vandy 17

MTSU at GT….GT wins big and scores early , middle…late…
GT 48 MTSU 21

Ole Miss at Alabama…pay back time in a very late start in Tuscaloosa….
Alabama 42 Ole Miss 17

Texas at Nebraska…has Nebraska really played anybody? Great Offense against some weak defenses….Texas is not a weak defense..in an upset
Texas 28 Nebraska 20

BAMA dude

Oh, and Bama ranks 16th and 35th (25.5 avg. ranking) respectively in the yards gained and yards allowed category despite a tough schedule. These numbers fall right in line with most other contenders:

Ohio St. 10th/13th (11.5 avg.)
Oregon 1st/64th (32.5 avg.)
Nebraska 29th/7th (18 avg.)
LSU 65th/14th (39.5 avg)
Auburn 6th/58th (32 avg.)
BSU 20th/1st (10.5 avg)- gave up almost 30% of their yards to VT
TCU 7th/8th (7.5 avg)

Oregon’s poor defense should bite them at some point, the way Alabama’s mediocre defense bit them. Sometimes your offense just doesn’t punch it in. Not much on their schedule though, so who knows? Based on these stats, assuming that SOS will keep the little guys out, you’d have to project tOSU and Nebraska as the MNC game. Will be interesting to watch.

When posting predictions don’t tell the upset you are predicting is possible because everybody knows an upset is possible…What folks really want to know what upset is PROBABLE….that being said…
USC will whip kentucky
USC will win the East
USC will beat whoever the West puts up (LSU, AUB, BAMA, ARK) and will have a BILLION fans in Atlanta cheering for them too.
USC will Not use the milk-toast defense they used against AUB…the lesson was learned
USC will use the defense they employed against BAMA and UGA
USC will roll into Glendale with an army of fans and take over that NC game…
USC rides a cinderella season by ending it with both the SEC CHAMPS and NC.
and the SEC is proud that another SEC school wins it all in football but Urban, Saban, Miles, CHEEZIT, the other head coaches and Richt all fume about it too….but too bad….smiles everyone…we still happy in Columbia too!

Bama Dude….I agree with you on the Oregon Ducks and the lack of defense…if a team lines up and just runs it down their throats and keep Oregon off the field, it leads to a large margin win for whoever is playing the ducks. Oregon is just horrible and I mean horrible on defense and how do you beat a good offense, keep their defense on the field. Every year Oregon will slip up and lose one or two, no different this year.
