The Fearless Friday Forecast

As the calendar turns to October, let’s hope we have better luck with the Fearless Friday Forecast:

1.  Florida at Alabama: Alabama proved last week at Arkansas that it is good enough and certainly tough enough to at least think about repeating as national champions. The Crimson Tide secondary was vulnerable to the pass but grew up as the game went along. Florida also did some growing up last week by using freshman quarterback Trey Burton in the Wildcat package. He scored a school-record six touchdowns against Kentucky. Alabama coach Nick Saban will try to turn this into a blue collar football game while Florida will hope to hit some big plays against a rebuilt Crimson Tide secondary. Alabama 24, Florida 14.

2.  Miami at Clemson: Clemson has had a week off since a tough overtime loss at Auburn. The question I have is whether or not Miami quarterback Jacory Harris can keep from being an interception machine on the road. He had four at Ohio State on Sept. 11 and two last week at Pittsburgh. Clemson won a shootout (40-37) last year at Miami. This one, played at Death Valley, will feature less scoring but the outcome will be the same. Clemson 17, Miami 14.

3. Georgia Tech at Wake Forest: Wake Forest got off to a 2-0 start by beating Presbyterian and Duke and scoring 107 points in the process. Since then it’s been pretty bleak for the Deacons, losing 68-24 at Stanford and 31-0 at Florida State. The Deacons have given up 147 points against their three Division I-A opponents. I’m not sure why, but Georgia Tech didn’t really have a sense of urgency in last week’s  45-28 loss to N.C. State. The Yellow Jackets bounce back and go to 3-2. Georgia Tech 42, Wake Forest 21.

4. Georgia at Colorado: It was tempting pick Colorado because I don’t know if there is any fight left in this Georgia team. But Colorado (2-1) is so bad and A.J. Green is finally available for the Bulldogs. Colorado will be welcoming back its 1990 AP national championship team but, fortunately for the Bulldogs, Eric Bienemy will not be suiting up for the Buffs.  But you know what? I just talked myself out of picking Georgia. It’s time for this team to man up. I’ll believe it when I see it. Colorado 21, Georgia 20.

5. Virginia Tech at N.C. State: The Wolfpack is 4-0 and showed it was legit last week by winning at Georgia Tech. The young Virginia Tech defense has improved since a 33-30 loss to Boise State on Sept. 6. But has it improved enough to handle N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson? I think not. N.C. State 28, Virginia Tech 24.

6. Tennessee at LSU: LSU has won four ugly games and on Saturday in Baton Rouge the Tigers will win ugly again. Undermanned Tennessee has played four straight home games to open the season. The Vols needed double overtime and five missed UAB field goals to win last week. LSU’s defense may be the best in the SEC. Its offense, given the talent at hand, might be the worst. LSU 24, Tennessee 3.

7. Stanford at Oregon: If not for Florida-Alabama this would be the best game on the board this weekend. Oregon had to work to win at Arizona State last week but I still think the Ducks are a Top 10 team. Stanford is just mashing everybody they play and Andrew Luck is the best quarterback in the Pac-10. I like the speed of Oregon and the home field edge of Autzen Stadium, where Stanford has lost its last four visits. Oregon 28, Stanford 24.

8. Texas vs. Oklahoma (Dallas):  Man, the air sure went out of this game when Texas lost to UCLA  (34-12) last week. It was the worst Texas loss at home in the Mack Brown era and the Longhorns simply we not ready to play.  That’s won’t be the case this week. Oklahoma has had close wins over Utah State, Air Force, and Cincinnati. It could be that we are looking at two pretty average teams. Look for Texas to commit to stopping the run and hope that OU quarterback Landry Jones won’t beat them. He will. Oklahoma 28, Texas 24.

9. Kentucky at Ole Miss: Kentucky has come back down to Earth after last week’s trip to the woodshed at Florida. But the Ole Miss defense has struggled all season and it won’t be better without DE Kentrell Lockett, who is out for the season with a knee injury. Kentucky 31, Ole Miss 21.

10. Wisconsin at Michigan State: Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio returns after suffering a heart attack two weeks ago after a win over Notre Dame. Dantonio will work from the press box. I like Sparty at home. Michigan State 21, Wisconsin 17.

Not to start a new rumor, but rumor has it Saban is about to be on the hot seat in Tuscaloosa. NCAA is quietly going after Bama for a couple of violations.

NONSENSE.. You’re basing that on the story yesterday that he abuses medical scholarships. Grey area that he will easily sidestep.

No rumor about it that now jailed former UM booster Nevin Shapiro is writing a tell all book that will detail almost a decade of rampant cheating at UM. The wobbly canes will soon be cut down like ragweed in front of a weed eater.

Two Things: (1) I agree with you on all counts, Tony (glad you’re being cautious with Dawgs, now). And (2) Nerd Alert: “Bama Cheats” is actually that “War Eagle” momma’s boy troll that irritates all of us here lately.

Bama vs. FL will be a tough one all around, and the best on TV this weeekend. Good Luck to both, but Total Victory to Bama.

I have it on good knowledge that Boba Fett is the great(to the 23rd) grandson of Saban. His lust for money comes naturally, it’s in his genes. Sadly for us, Jar Jar Binks is descended from Houston Nutt. Emperor Palpatine’s forebear is Obama. His lust for power comes naturally as well…

Whoa..! I almost spit out my tooth. MR CFB has just secured a win for UGA. This could be a trend going forward. Tennessee at LSU. Mr. CFB, thanks for your faith in Daniel Lincoln, or do you think Palardy comes in late after Lincoln misses his first shot..? Me, I’m a victim of your past malaise, you know the one where you pick against your better judgement but you do it anyway because you can’t help yourself for one reason or another..?

But, they will win big Saturday (more than 10 points). Probably dance on the teams logo, and all the UGAg fans will be talking like they just beat Alabama.

I agree with all the other picks, but I think NC St. beat VT by 10+

Plenty of great games this weekend.

If GT cant beat Wake by 20+, the concern will grow larger.

If UGA loses to Colorado, Bobo might get fired on Monday.

LSU still struggles on offense. Tenn in an upset??

NCST wins convincingly over VT.

Clemson over Miami. Kyle Parker > Jacory Harris

Well I went out on some upset limbs last week and whiffed on all but the NC St vs Tech game. Lesson learned (which also means there will be upsets everywhere this week)

UGA at Colorado – It’s hard actually think these guys can put together a football game and execute it. As a fan, I feel tremendously pesemistic. I honestly can’t see the Dawgs traveling over there and winning. However, I saw Kirk Herbstreet (sp?) talking a little about the Dawgs. He talked about how bad they were, and all the problems they had etc…. he pretty much ripped them a new one. Then he pretty much laughed at the idea that Colorado would win this weekend. He basicly thought this an easy win for UGA. Huh? Ok, he has less bias then I so I’ll defer to his judgement this weekend on UGA. UGA wins.

If you actually need something tangible to believe in the Dawgs here it is simply put. UGA almost beat Arkansas, Arkansas almost beat the best team in the nation. So while UGA’s reccord stinks (1-3), it might not completely reflect how bad (or good) of a team they are. Plus they get their best player back this week. That’s usually a good thing.

Florida at Bama – The heavy weight of the weekend. You gota go with Bama at home here. That running game of theirs is the envy of the nation. This game might not even be really close.

Miami at Clemson – Clemson took Auburn to the wire. I think Miami got a little overhyped preseason. Clemson had a week to rest, they should calm the storm of Miami. Clemson comfortably.

Virginia Tech at NC State – NC State is playing lights out right now. The Hookies lost to way too many teams they shouldn’t of. Easy pick with NC State.

Hmmm, I’m seeing a Virigina Tech vs. UGA bowl game in the Artics this year. The deserve each other :)

Tennessee at LSU – LSU really improved their game after that horrible win (if there is such a thing) against North Carolina. They have way too many guns for the Vols. Peterson may be the best defensive player in the nation.

Stanford at Oregon – If UF/Bama is Tyson/Hollyfield then here is your Ali/Frazier. Oregon is red hot on offense, Stanford is red hot on deffense. Plus Stanford has a pretty decent QB. This is a really hard pick honestly… Usually that means go with the home team. I think I won’t. I’m going with Stanford. I think they might have a special team this year.

(for what it’s worth, I actually typed out picking Oregon and changed my mind to Stanford)

Texas vs Oklahoma – When has this game garnered so little national attention? I know there are a lot of good games this week, but it seems like no one is talking about the Red River Shootout. Both teams are in the top 25, but neither of them are of quality of old. Texas is the only one with a loss, but Oklahom came very close to it against some inferior teams and moer than once. The Sooners have come way to close and looked bad all year, I think they fall to Texas.

Kentucky at Ole Miss – Vandy beat Ole Miss, Kentucky does too.

the cubs will win the world series next year with their new manager…book it….

a view into the mind of the typical delusional uga fan…..(i know…i used to be one…)

georgia will break out their new no huddle spread wishbone this week, unveiled by offensive genius mike bobo. bobo has been doing some vanilla playcalling to throw opponents off.

in a recent interview bobo said ‘ yeah, we decided to unveil it during our weekly friday morning golf outings at jennings mill- me, coach serles and coach vanhalanger made that decision on the 12th hole. We’ve been working on it while playing NCAA football ‘07 playstation during halftime. We told coach richt, and he talked it up during our team bible study and then prayed about it. The best thing is that the new offense doesn’t require anyone to block – so it will fit in just fine with coach serle’s busy personal life…and the lack of blocking requires no additional strength and conditioning training…which will definately fit in with CVH’s semi retirement plans.”

meanwhile, the coaching rumors continue to swirl around CMR. The latest offer has come from World Vision…who has offered him an opportunity to start the CMR football for jesus academy in botswana. CMR won’t say anything about the recent offer except that he needs to do a lot of soul searching and that the team is working together as a family. Other programs at which reaching a bowl game is quite an achievement have also stated that they would love to have the georgia coach there.

well, folks, that is a wrap for today. My prediction….Colorado 21- UGA 7 (maybe a late 4th quarter touchdown.)

have a great weekend, everyone….and go dawgs!

Alabama over Florida – UF is too young right now – could be different in December
Miami over Clemson – UM’s D is for real
GT over WF – GT has not lost 2 in a row under CPJ + Riley Skinner finally graduated
UGA over CO – they’ve gotta win sometime
NC State over VT – The Hokies can’t stop Wilson. The fans in Raleigh are really jacked for this one
LSU over Tenn – Looks like Tony only expects LSU’s offense to get 1 TD and 1 FG – he stated yesterday that Peterson will have “at least” one TD
Oregon over Stanford – Playing in Autzen is worth 6 points for the Ducks
OU over TX
UK over Ole Miss – trouble continues in Nuttville
WI over MSU – too much John Clay for the Spartans to handle

CMR will have a short leash on his offensive staff Sat night. If we don’t score on the first two possessions, I think he will call the plays for the rest of the night. This may be a first in his coaching career but I think he is looking to run up the scoreboard for style points if possible. If that means 72 then so be it, CMR has had and heard enough. Also, rumor is that redshirt and true freshman on the offensive line will get playing time on if the juniors/seniors don’t perform. He has has enough of the spoiled, weak group.

jj, so if Colorado drills UGA, which they will, then UGA is alot worse than worse? When UGA got drilled by lowly MSU, if proved how terrible this program really is, and it can get alot worse. UGA is only 3 losses away from struggling for .500.

I recall some smack talk of how UGA could run the table based on an easier schedule than previous years, but if UGA cannot run the table with this schedule, then there are major issues.
