Tech wins a squeaker; Georgia survives in Starkville

The Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. N.C. State at Georgia Tech: The last time the Wolfpack was 3-0 (2002) they eventually got to 9-0 before the run was stopped by Georgia Tech in Raleigh. As a Tech fan you need to be concerned that N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson is just now knocking off the rust after playing minor league baseball all summer–and he threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns in his last outing against Cincinnati. Wilson has thrown 101 passes this season without an interception. That will change at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday. Georgia Tech 21, N.C. State 20.

2. Georgia at Miss. State: Don’t worry about the cowbells, Bulldog fans. They are loud. It’s life on the road in the SEC. The thing to worry about is that the Mississippi State quarterbacks–Chris Relf and Tyler Russell–are due for a breakout game. And after giving up just less than four bills against Arkansas last week, the Georgia secondary is not going to put a lot of fear into anyone. My advice to Georgia? Just run the football and wear this team down. It’s time for the offensive line to man up and win a game for Georgia. Georgia 24, Miss. State 17.

3. Alabama at Arkansas: This summer I asked Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett about Saturday’s date with No. 1 Alabama and how excited the Hogs’ fans would be. He smiled: “I hear we’ve sold all the tickets and will probably draw a big crowd.” Yep. With both teams in the Top 10, it’s the second biggest game ever played at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. In 1969 No. 1 Texas beat No. 2 Arkansas 15-14 in a game that decided the national championship. Arkansas will have the crowd but Alabama still has that massive offensive line and the best running back combo on the planet in Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. I could be wrong.  But I think Alabama starts to pull away in the fourth quarter. Alabama 34, Arkansas 21.

4. South Carolina at Auburn: First of all, I wonder how much Auburn has left in the tank after last week’s very physical overtime win against Clemson. South Carolina is going to come to Jordan-Hare Stadium for its first road of the season and try to beat Auburn by using the Georgia game plan: That’s a heavy dose of running back Marcus Lattimore and just enough passing to keep the defense honest. Look for Auburn to put an extra defender in the box and to force the Head Ball Coach to air it out with quarterback Stephen Garcia. Then what happens is anybody’s guess. I like the Gamecocks in this one because Ellis Johnson’s defense is going to cause some problems for Auburn’s quarterback, Cameron Newton. South Carolina 17, Auburn 14.

5. Kentucky at Florida: So how many times have we said this: Kentucky has the best offense in the SEC East? Right now the Wildcats are certainly better on offense than Florida. Kentucky needs to keep one streak going: The Wildcats have not given up a turnover in three games. If the Wildcats can do that, then they have a puncher’s chance to end their 23-game losing streak to the Gators. All I know is that the Florida defense already has 10 interceptions. UK quarterback Mike Hartline must take care of  the football. Florida 21, Kentucky 10.

6. Oregon State at Boise State: The Broncos are ranked No. 3 and the release of the first BCS standings don’t come until Oct. 17. In the meantime Boise must keep winning and do it with style points. I’ve got Oregon State as my darkhorse pick to win the Pac-10. The Beavers (1-1) lost to No. 4 TCU  (30-21) and almost lost to Louisville (35-28) last week. College Game Day is coming to Boise and the world will be watching. The Broncos need to put on a show. Boise State 42, Oregon State 27.

7. Stanford at Notre Dame: Stanford has won its first three games (Sacremento State, UCLA, Wake Forest) by a combined score of 155-41. Quarterback Andrew Luck has already thrown for 674 yards with no interceptions. Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has got a little bit of an attitude about him and his fans like that. I know this sounds crazy but I have it on good authority that Stanford was really jacked up to play Wake Forest after losing to the Deacons last year in Winston-Salem. Could the Cardinal have a let down at Notre Dame (1-2), which needs a win after two straight losses at the buzzer? I’ll go with Stanford and the hot quarterback. Stanford 35, Notre Dame 27.

8. UAB at Tennessee: It’s obvious now that Tennessee is going to have to take baby steps (two steps forward, one step back) in this first season under Derek Dooley. The good news is that Tennessee played the full 60 minutes against Florida before losing 31-17. The week before the Volunteers basically packed it in after falling behind in the second half against Oregon. Here is why Saturday’s game with UAB is so important. A win gives the Volunteers a 2-2 record with games coming up at LSU, at Georgia, Alabama in Knoxville, and at South Carolina. You have to figure Tennessee will be 2-6 heading into November. They will still be able to get to 6-6 and Dooley can point to a tangible goal. Having a goal is important to a struggling team. Tennessee 27, UAB 10.

9. Virginia Tech at Boston College: After a tough three weeks to open the season, the Hokies (1-2) open ACC play on the road. My buddy Bill Roth, the radio voice of Virginia Tech, tells me that no Hokie has scored a rushing touchdown at Boston College since Lee Suggs did it in 2002. In fact, Boston College has beaten Virginia Tech in five of its last six meetings, including a 14-10 win at Virginia Tech in 2007 led by Matt Ryan. I think Boston College beats the Hokies again. Boston College 21, Virginia Tech 17.

10. West Virginia at LSU: It’s a non-conference game. It will also be the best party in all of college football this weekend. LSU (3-0) needs to keep winning because the Tigers want to be 5-0 when they go to Florida on Oct. 9. West Virginia (3-0) may be the class of the Big East now that Pittsburgh is 1-2. The Mountaineers have some playmakers in QB Geno Smith (800 yards passing, 7 TD) and Noel Devine (118 yards rushing per game). But I see LSU’s defense as too big and quick. Both sides win the party. LSU wins the game. LSU 24, West Virginia 14.

What makes you believe the ‘Dogs will EVER be able to run the ball effectively. I mean, hasn’t this poor offensive line play been a problem since 2002? At this point, I just cannot see it happening. Hope I am wrong. But, you are correct; run the ball and win the game. Now, go prove me wrong guys.

Wilson can really throw it around effectively,..but that 3-0 record is due to some nice early season scheduling. We learned a painful but valuable lesson in Lawrence.CAG has the defense improving as we sort out our personnel. The Wolfpack is about to get it’s first dose of our option-based spread offense,…and Tony,..they ain’t making it to 9-0 this season. ‘Jackets cover and take the over.

The North Carolina State score looks too close for comfort, but a win is a win. I think the Yellow Jackets will win by at least 10 points this week. If Boston college knocks off Virginia Tech, then it looks like Miami and Georgia Tech will be the teams to decide the Coastal Division later this season. The dawgs have a very tough game in Starkeville this week, and I hope they can win despite those cowbells. For more Georgia Tech Football articles go to http://isportsweb.com. Go Jackets!

If the Gators offense comes out and plays like they did in the first three games, Kentucky will end a long losing streak against them. This is the Gators first real test this year and will show if they have any chance against the Tide next week or not. Kentucky is a very good team from what I have seen….and well coached.

Mississippi State is hungry….is at home….and needs to play a good game for Mullen….but Georgia needs to win more. Georgia by 14 I think. Close for 3 quarters though.

I hope Arkansas pushes Bama to the brink and is really physical with the Tide. But Bama pulls out a close one. Arkansas doesn’t have a good enough defense yet.

South Carolina is better than Auburn right now. Spurrier is on a roll and probably plays the Gators with an undefeated team this year.

Tony, I share your concern regarding what Auburn has left in the tank following the Clemson game but simply think the road and stadium environment, combined with the offensive potential of Auburn, equates to an AU win – maybe not a pretty win, but a win nonetheless — I see it 21-17 Auburn.

There are a lot of possible upsets this week…. Arkansas over Bama? Not likely – Bama by 14 as Arkansas fades midway through the 3rd quarter. Auburn over South Carolina? Good chance as I see Garcia throwing a couple of picks and Newton running the ball a lot on 3rd down… say Auburn 31 and South Carolina 27. Miss State over Georgia? Possible on the road with the (redshirt) freshman Murray – if the pass protection is as poor as it was last week….. but I expect UGA to win by 3. Kentucky over Florida? It’s in the swamp I think where the refs tend to be a bit lenient on the Gators… Gators by 10, winning ugly again in a low scoring game. LSU wins by a bunch.

Miss. State and Georgia are down 0-2 in the SEC, but State has several advantages over Georgia.

State is much improve from last year and they gave the Gators all they wanted on a Sat night in Starksville. They played the Gators better than the dawgs did, losing 29-19, the dawgs lost 41-17.
These were on back to back weekends.

UGA beats MSU because they’re better……better talent and more winning tradition. Georgia gets well…..offensively and defensively.

NC State has looked pretty good so far this year……GIT has not. No home field advantage here….Wolf Pack beats the bugs.

USC wins a tough game against Awbarn. The Fighting Roosters are for real this year.

Kentucky has a shot at Florida…..if they play a perfect game and the Gators continue to stagger around. The Urbane Crier will begin to feel poorly again…..

The Bammers pull out their Yellow Hammers to trump Petrino’s Mallet……Bama pounds the rock.

Unfortunately, the Beavers will not be able to corral the Broncos……Boise’s last chance to lose.

The Goldie Domers will lose to Stanford….Stanford has better players and more confidence.

West Va gets to experience Red Stick in the evening glow of gumbo and Jack Daniels…..lots of fun if you’re tailgating…not so much fun on the gridiron.

BC vs Va Tech is a game of slugs…….I don’t really care who wins.

Vowels beat the Blazers…just because they’re Tennessee and UAB isn’t.

UGA should be able to beat MSU this week, They have the better players. UGA will need to be the stronger team – condition-wise in the second half. MSU has played both AU and LSU tough, with LSU pulling away in the 4th Q.

As far as UF, until they can get ANY continuity on offense, every game will be a struggle. At this rate they have little to no chance next week @ UA. Hope they get a good performance by their O this week.

Dawgies will lose again and continue their fall into oblivion. UGA will be underdogs to Tenn and Vandy afer losing to Miss State and Colorado. GT is due for a breakout game and will control the clock and game the who way and win by 2 TD’s against NC State. All non UGA homers are embarrassed by the trash dump team in Athens as they are a disgrace off the field and now their own fans are throwing the players under the bus. People that want to support Ms State and their quest to ring those damn things don’t understand the history. The SEC banned MS State from using those in the early 80’s. Basically MS State gave everybody the finger and rang them anyway. So instead of the SEC punishing them like them should have, they rewarded their bad behavior. Now Ms State is giving us all the finger again. They can’t win on the football field so they want to be known as cow bell bangers. Pitiful.

Word across the SEC is that good guy CMR has played out his hand and not much will change at UGA from current situation. The fact is any team in the conference now not only believes it ought to whip UGA, but goes into the game expecting to do just that. This game is clearly in the players’ hands. David @9:27 lets look at the whole history here. The SEC actually banned cowbells in 1974 after they had already become an established tradition since the 1930s. This ban wasn’t the result of an uprising across the conference. It was honchoed by one man. Shug Jordan. Sure he got the rule passed but the reason it wasn’t enforced is because nobody else really cared that much. At the time this special rule was passed there were crowd noise rules in the NCAA rulebook that have long since been taken out. Sure MSU fans have thumbed there noses at a rule aimed only at them but opposing players and coaches have repeatedly said the bells make no difference because ALL SEC stadiums are too noisy to hear and once you can’t hear it doesn’t matter why. Incidentally, sound studies have proven that the noise at field level is no higher with cowbells in use than at any other stadium in the conference. So, putting the rule aside for a minute and looking at the basis for it, if making noise with cowbells is ‘cheating’ in that it gives one team an unfair advantage then logically an equal level of noise made by ANY means imparts this same unfair advantage. Thus, the cowbell rule is exposed as hypocritical.

The Crimson Tide also will play games in Atlanta in 2013 and 2014 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, Saban said.

The Crimson Tide will visit Penn State on Sept. 10 next year, and it will host Georgia Southern on Nov. 19.

On Sept. 3, 2016, Alabama will host Michigan State. On Sept. 2, 2017 — the last year of Saban’s latest contract extension — the Tide will visit Michigan State, where Saban coached from 1995 through ‘99.

Rufus, you don’t have a clue. Did you see how many times UNC had the ball in the entire 2nd half last week? Did you see GT keep the ball for the final 10 minutes of the 2nd quarter dummy? NC STATE will have few touches saturday and they must score every time they touch it. Too much pressure and they are on the road in atlanta where CPJ has only lost twice since he has been here at GT and only 1 ACC conference loss at home as well. We win this by at least 10 points and score 30 plus. We started last year a bit slow on offense as well, but we are cranking this party up. The tar heels had only 1 1st down in the 2nd half and that was because of a penalty on 3rd down to extend it. Wilson is a good QB, but they won’t beat GT in atlanta. BANK ON IT!

To claim to be Mr. CFB, you sure do miss a very obvious key to your strategy for UGA: THERE IS NO RUNNING GAME! We have played two of the weakest defenses we will see this year and have yet to have a 100-yard game from the almost average running backs. You just reiterate the Bobo way of thought, the delusion that UGA is a strong running team.

Also, regarding the GT game, why will NC State have an interception this week. There is no mention of a DB dominating his receiver in a one-on-one. Are you just assuming that an interception is due since there has not been on so far?

UGA vs. Miss State should be named the catfish bowl…..two bottom feeders in the SEC East and West. That says enough about how far UGA has fallen that all their fans are hyped up to beat another winless team in the conference. After that you Dawg fans can get lathered up about playing Colorado, Tenn and Vanderbilt, three more awlful teams that will be pickem games for the Dawgs. If GT had no academic standards, recruited thugs and had been an embarrassment over the last 30 years we would probably have more wins head to head but no integrity just like UGA.

Paul in RDU, I have another take on the UNC situation. First, I’m confident that BD will be the coach at UNC for years to come. Secondly, I believe that most of UNC’s players will be reinstated within 2-3 weeks, and if so, UNC will be a factor by season’s end. They will have greater depth and experience than if this whole thing had not happened. Just picture their defense in this case. Their recruiting is still very strong, and I think that UNC, other than the hit they have sustained to date, will continue to rise in the football world.

Took me awhile to figure that one out. Teams tied at 19 all at the end of regulation. Arkansas scores TD and makes PAT…now it’s 26-19. On Alabama’s possession, they fumble the ball and it gets knocked around and Arkansas touches it last and then it gets knocked out of the end zone that Arkansas is defending for a safety.

I like beaver. And this weekend I hope the Oregon State beavers pull off the upset of Boise.

In other games dawgs are in a fight for survival. The O-line gets it done and overpowers MSU. This may well be the easiest betting pick of the year. No way the dawgs lose this one.

USCe vs AU- the best game of the weekend for sure. I’m going to go with Carolina due to Auburn’s rush defense not being that great. Lattimore is the difference for me.

LSU- WVU- Noel Devine is one dynamic player. But LSU has too much overall talent, especially on defense. And BTW I am in agreement with Tony that Patrick Peterson is probably the single best football player in America.

Stanford- ND- I love watching ND lose. And I think and hope Stanford puts it on them again.

BC- VT- Interesting stat about BC’s dominance of VT. I hope they do it again.

Bama- Ark- We will slow down the Ark offense most of the team if not at least some of the time. They will not be able to slow down Ingram and Richardson not even one time. Greg McElroy leads the nation in passing efficiency. Take that Ryan Mallett. We roll 38-21

Les Miles clock management team,

You’re probably right. Its a longshot for the beavs and they will have to outscore Kellen Moore but one can always hope. They do have the Rodgers brothers who can help put up some points. The biggest problem is that they are playing on the smurf turn where Boise is supertough. OSU playing at home is as tough a venue as anywhere but on the road OSU is an average team. I’m at least hoping it won’t be the bloodbath that we both know could quite possibly happen.

Predictions for UGA:
MSU – loss
Colorado – win
Tennessee – LOSS – yes – Vols beat UGA again this year.
Vandy – win
Kentucky – Loss
Florida – another BLOW OUT LOSS
ID STATE – win
Auburn – LOSS
GT – LOSS

Final record: – 4 – 8.
SEC Record – 1-7

Not HATING – just telling it like it is.
UGA offensive line – not good at all.
Best player is Murray
RB’s – whimps – injury prone – and zero years after contact. NOne of your RB’s break tackles.

Defense – New system and transition – getting nose bloodied this year.
DT’s – ineffective this year – young, confused – average talent at best
LB-s – athletic – but stupid
DB’s – confused and stupid

Guys – if UGA gets beat by MSU – season over – mail it back in.
IF UGA beats MSU – still got a pulse for a potential ok season.

UGA talent is overated – and undercoached.

However – in 2011 – UGA rebounds to an 7-5 or 8-4 record – which is what UGA is historically all about.

Hey Jason – I’m certainly no Georgia fan, but your comment about Aaron Murray makes absolutely no sense. Aaron Murray isn’t the only Georgia player who is 0 – 2 in the SEC. The whole team is, so, using your logic, maybe the whole team should be replaced. Aaron Murray wasn’t playing defense last Saturday when the wonderful new GA defense let Arkansas score a touchdown in about 2 minutes after the offense – led by Murray – had tied up the game. Georgia is not invincible just because they’re Georgia – calm down, be realistic and give the kid a chance.

Still, only 1 1st down after we turned it over to start the 2nd half and their TD. Point is, you said they had many 1st downs in the 2nd half, and that is not true either. GT dominated this game from the 10 minute mark in the 2nd quarter until it was over. You can’t sugar coat that my man! UNC has been recruiting really well and has good talent, but that program is going to be set back a few years by the end of this season when the NCAA hammer comes down. As for Tennessee – they will win against UAB, UGA, Memphis, Ole Miss and Vandy. Kentucky will be the Vols this year – but I tell you – I really – the Vols played really hard against Florida last week. They are rebuilding – have no depth – but apparently are much better coached than UGA.

Agree with above – Richt will still be employed for this season and next season – and I believe he will be UGA’s coach in 2012 as well.

Big transistion year this year – new DC, new 3/4 scheme, new RFR QB.

Like I said – UGA will be 7-5/8-4 in 2011.

2012 – I expect more of the same – and Richt will volunteerily retire – and focus on mission work.

The guy has done a hell of a job up until a few years ago. But the same thing happened to Fulmer, Tuberville, etc. He could not keep it going as BAMA and Florida hired better coaches – and UGA has become STALE.

Also – I really believe his players love him – but do not fear him. Which is why UGA has slid back – HIs early teams feared him because they did not know him – and UGA won games.

I think Bama beats Arkansas by 10. I think Tech will beat NC State by at least 10. I think Auburn will drill South Carolina who I think is very overrated.

As for UGA vs. MSU: I wouldn’t touch that game with your money Tony! MSU lacks talent and really misses Anthony Dixon from last year. They got drilled by LSU last week, so they haven’t shown me anything that has led me to believe that they have turned the corner. UGA lost, but I like the way they fought against Arkansas late in the game. The questions I have with the Dawgs are this: Will the effort they showed late in the game last week carry over to this week? Or was last week’s loss such a heartbreaker that they come out flat against MSU? If it’s the former, UGA could lose to MSU, but if its the latter then UGA should win by at least 10.

Eveeryone knows UGA fans are turncoats and are already attacking your own players. GT and CPJ will be fine and in two or three years taking your unknown coordinator that you have to hire to replace CMR to school every year. I see Stanford putting beat down on Notre Dame and will enjoy it!! Finally, I see Gators probably winning a similar game to last week at Tenneseee. Nope but it’s not just coincidence that you say the same things everyday under similarly themed screen names. If you are a different poster than the ones I mentioned, you need to search deep within yourself and find your own voice and stop trying to emulate others (just like the counselor told you in middle school).

UGA and Tech lose close ones (hate to say it, but my gut feeling is that the homefield advantage will push Miss. St. over the top), Florida wins a close one, Alabama and Auburn win fairly decisively (not yet convinced of the greatness of either Arky or USC). Boise, Notre Dame will win as will WVU on the road in an upset.

UGA Insider,

You are right. Coaches have been on players hard this week-including Richt. They have had a couple of player to player skirmishes. Alot of pointing fingers at who is at fault. This could mean 2 things:1) Yes the team is out of contorl or 2)Miss St will get the wrath of all this. Alot of talk between players this week is about all the negative comments from the UGA fans on blogs like these. Hope all our comments will pay off?

DIT good call…still think UGA wins this weekend, I say that after the two drives in the 4th quarter last week, we lost but both sides of the ball showed they could crank it up…that will overcome the new QB and D at some point as a Dawg fan I have to hope its this week. Bama has too much running game for ARK but it could be close. UK only has a chance to win if the Gators are thinking about the Tide..but CUM is great at keeping them focused so I don’t see that happening. If AU can slow down Lattimore and put the game on Garcia they have a good chance to win if not they are toast…smoke’em if you got’em.

A few years ago, Arkansas with McFadden was supposed to run all over Auburn. Auburn put a stop to the run and McFadden had 20 yards on the day.

USC doesn’t have as many weapons as Arkansas. Should be a close game but I think Auburn pulls it out.

agree with what you posted for the most part. I still hold onto hope that we will still take 9 this year. Hey, UGA is my team as well so I will always hope for the best. Some are on here that only back the Dawgs while they are doing well. Have to back them no matter what if your a true fan. It’s been frustrating, but there is still time to right this ship.
I just don’t see UK making it close. UF has too many athletes and yes, UM is a good coach.
The only thing I disagree with you on, for some reason, I think that Ark. will upset Bama. This is no knock to bama. It’s just a gut. Then again I said last week that we would beat Ark.
As for Auburn, they just have not put together a full 60 minutes of football for some time. They normally start off fast then teams adjust. Spurrier is one of the best adjusters in the game. I see SC beating them

Bama fans are inbred now that we are talking football we can I hope be civil…what your not taking into consideration as far as weapons is SC’s wide outs they are BIG and talented..even when we had DB’s on them they managed to go up and get the ball due to mismatch in size. After watching the tape of the SC/UGA game Auburn will know what they need to about Lattimore…the WR’s weren’t used much..as they didn’t have to throw often, but if they do throw it they have guys who can catch it. Either way I expect a very close game.

ClemPson is underrated as a team. Also, coming back from 17 points to win is called resilient.

“Clemson should not have been able to stay on the field with you guys if you played the 1st half like you did the 2nd.”

Yeah, and VT should not have lost to James Madison but it did.

You, like most armchair qb’s, don’t realize that preseason rankings are crap. VT was supposed to win the ACC, but they suck. Right now, Clemson is the best ACC team.

Auburn has the historical advantage in this series. Since 1930 Auburn has won 6, tied 1 and lost 1 to South Carolina. Auburn also has home field advantage. With both teams posting a 3-0 record, one would think that Auburn would be the favored team in this contest — but apparently people aren’t betting that way.

This is a make or break game for South Carolina. It should matter more to them than it does to Auburn. This season represents the best chance they’ve had for a shot at the SEC Championship since they’ve been in the Conference.

They’ve only played 3 games, but I’ve been more impressed by the play of South Carolina… so far.

Yes, I know that is a very rare event since mostly what you see from the overgrown lizard fans is pure hokey. Then you have Al E. Gator, a true representation of gator fans on AJC blogs. Here is their company line…. uh, you know UGA has never been any good, just mediocre, no history.

What planet do these creatures live on? Do they ever read history or simply read each other’s propaganda? I think they teach from a different college football history book in Florida. Wake up, you sleepy head lizards. UGA has the #11 winningest college football program in America, not the state of Georgia, not in the SEC, but the US of A. Where is UF… like maybe 30 or 40. And it is not all ancient history. Just look at coach Richt’s record at UGA. Again, one of the best in the country. So, Al E. Gator, pick up a non-fiction book on college football history and understand that 7-5 records are not representative of the history of UGA but it is strikingly close to the history of UF football.

Tough week for picking games. Several undefeated teams will see their first loss as a result of head to head. I will start with the game I will be working on this weekend.

Auburn at home against South Carolina. Auburn had a very physical game last week against Clemson, they lost a couple of players and Dyer will need to continue to get 5 plus yards a carry, but he will need more touches than he has been getting, Whoever controls the ball the most will win this one.
USC 34 Auburn 28

Georgia goes to Starkville to hear the cow bells. UGA does need to win so life returns to normal post AJ Green suspension. UGA will need to run the ball and move the big linemen of MSU around to make a difference. They do and win 37 to 27

Oregon State and Alabama alumnus Mike Riley takes on the Blue Carpet baggers. Oregon St knows that this game can prime their season to conference play and keep them from their second loss which they can ill afford. OSU 31 Boise State 28

Kentucky Wildcats at Florida Gators in Ben Hill. UK has played three cupcakes and passed with flying colors. UK has had very few injuries during the preseason games. Urban Meyer has found some answers to his anemic offense. UK will be the most physical team that UF has played. UK has more talent than any other team that UF has played. Tight game and possible upset.
UF 35 UK 32

Georgia Tech has their hands full with a much improved N.C. State team. The question should be can GT and their defense stop a multiple dimensional offense. GT at home is the difference
GT 44 N.C. State 37

Alabama visits Arkansas and the Hawgs in Fayetteville(not in Little Rock as Jack Arute kept saying on his Sirius/XM radio show). Alabama will control the line of scrimmage, score from every angle and will continue to make life miserable for every defense. The biggest question is how much does Mallett keep Arkansas in the game? Arkansas scores 3 touchdowns and kicks a couple of field goals but cannot stop the Alabama offense.
Alabama 48 Arkansas 31

Auburn got whacked, smacked, beat and bloodied last week against and beating Clemson. Do they have 4 qtrs of fight in ‘em today..? If so, Cheesey has them headed in the right direction to be sure. If not, it’s a setback. USCe is one of the best in the SEC East to date. Spurrier has had a way of allowing his Chickens to falter down the stretch but this ain’t the stretch yet. Should the Chickens pick up physically where Clemson let off, Auburn should lose this one. Of course, one can’t know which Garcia takes the field and Lattimore might be reading the papers.

The reality of football is why we all love it. It is one of the few things in society that can’t be bought though a huge river of money flows through it. Today a stadium of 55,000 face the school that back home houses crowds of 90,000 plus. Buckhead comes to the ghetto. With all that money you can only play eleven at a time. Georgia should win, actually should kill em, lets see what happens.

Tech historically has had difficulty with State. I think the trip to Atlanta gets them pumped up but they always play us well. I was surprised at Vegas making it a 8 and a half point spread this week. One thing about Vegas points don’t come cheap, they know something.

Palladin

Vegas only “knows” what gamblers’ betting preference is at any given moment. Large groups tend to make predictions that are slightly better than random guesses, and yet football teams often fail to adhere to the wisdom of the point spread generators.

That’s why they bother to actually play the games.

Stumble Bum year it might be

September 25th, 2010
9:33 am

I am a long term kind of person. Do we ( grads ) want UGA to win vs MSU and then stumble along to some sort of ugly 6-6 or 5-6 thang this year? Nope. I say no. Think long term only.

McGarity is reading every minute of every day to guage how Richt is dealing with this adversity. He is watching to see how the $$$ alumni act and the players toward the staff and vice versa. If Richt stumbles to some 6-6 year ………….. then we may be stuck with him next year. The 2011 recruiting and even last year’s recruiting are suffering. Such is the nature of college ball when the head man is viewed as a lame duck or one in waiting. The sharks assemble around the prey.

No, I say cut the cord after UGA whups GT, then go get a big boy, tough coach that understands the physicality of SEC football. Finess just ain’t cutting it. UGa has been built on an outdated FSu of the 90s model. THAT is not working in the better now ACC nor the SEC. It was really never very dominate in the SEC and Richt’s record proves it vs really physical teams.

I have had enough.

UGA class of 71 & 73

Palladin

You’re right. Richt may be a good coach, but Georgia’s been in a slump over the past several years and the modern CFB environment doesn’t allow for a long-term investment in engineering a turnaround with an incumbent Head Coach. You can’t have a winning program in the SEC if you don’t recruit the best players. The best players want to play for the best team. Perception is everything and Georgia is no longer perceived as a winning program. There are two ways to shake this perception: win or hire a new coach that inspires people to believe that the program will win — sooner rather than later. The first option has already been squandered this season. If Georgia’s new AD is smart, then Richt will be announcing his retirement by the end of this season.

It may not be “fair”, but it is what it is.

Not really feeling it for UGA tonight. If our O-Line lived up to half the hype then I would say we win by 10. If we can’t run tonight we lose by 3.

Tech crushes NCS by 21.

I was saying an upset by ARk over Bama yesterday. Had time to think and take a good grumpy. Changing my mind on that one. Bama by a TD.

Still say that SC beats Auburn. When Auburn puts in a full 60 minutes of football together they will be a dangerous team. Have not seen it yet. SC by 3

Miami by the score of 31-3 over Pitt….. sorry, had to throw that one in there.

LSU squeaks by WVU

UF clobbers UK. Sorry UK, but you have played no one this year. Still a good team, but have yet to the stage of beating UF. Florida by 17

Oregon state upsets a over confident Boise on the blue carpet in OT by 7

“UGa has been built on an outdated FSu of the 90s model.”

You got that right, Stumble Bum. Georgia runs the most outdated, predictable plays. That’s why I find it hard to put most of the blame on Bobo, even though I think he’s average at best. But he doesn’t even have the chance to be average with this offense.

Bottom line, Richt is the head man. He’s an offensive coach, the highest ranking one on the team. The blame is his. He’s just not getting the job done.

Week 4
SEC Stock Report:

Alabama – UP – Number 10 Arkansas opened strong, but couldn’t hang onto the lead in the second half. Bama wins 24-20. The Razorbacks may no longer qualify as “David”, but the Crimson Tide is still “Goliath”.

Next Up: Florida

Arkansas – MIXED – A 24-20 loss to the Number 1 Crimson Tide gave the Hogs an opportunity to show how much they have improved over last season.

Next Up: Bye Week

Auburn – UP – South Carolina proved to be a worthy opponent, but Auburn clawed it’s way back for another fabulous finish, winning by a score of 35-27.

Next Up: Louisiana Monroe

Florida – UP – Kentucky was clearly not prepared for SEC level competition. Gators eat their lunch to the tune of 48-14.

Next Up: Alabama

Georgia – DOWN – MSU wins 24-12. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Mississippi State proves that they are still capable of Crooming SEC coaches. Add another MSU tradition to the cowbells. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=croomed

Next Up: Colorado

Kentucky – DOWN – The Cats 48-14 loss to the Gators offers Kentucky a rude introduction to SEC conference play.

Next Up: Ole Miss

LSU – UP – West Virginia was no match for the Bayou Bengals. LSU notches another ugly win with a 20-14 victory over the Mountaineers.

Next Up: Tennessee

Mississippi – UP – A 55-38 win over Fresno State offers relief to the struggling Nutt Squad.

Next Up: Kentucky

Mississippi State – UP – State wins the dogfight 24-14.

Next Up: Alcorn State

South Carolina – MIXED – The battle of the birds ends with the Eagles handing the Chickens a 35-27 loss, but the GamecLocks still offer the only real competition to the Gators for SEC East supremacy.

Next Up: Bye Week

Tennessee – MIXED – A win is a win. That said, UAB should have never seen OT against an SEC opponent – much less Double OT. Vols win in a nail-biter 32-29.

Next Up: LSU

Vanderbilt – UNCHANGED – You can’t lose if you don’t play – but you can’t win either.

Next Up: U Conn
