Georgia Tech rolls over Georgia

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. It’s Rivalry Week or, what a friend of mine likes to call “Hate Week.” No conference championships are on the line but a lot of feelings are. Some teams could lose a shot at the national championship or a BCS bid by getting beat by their rival. That makes it hurt twice as much.

If not for Georgia’s collapse against Kentucky we would have gone 10-0 last week. But for the year we are 89-31 (and yes, we don’t use the point spread) for those of you keeping score at home.

Here we go with the next to last Fearless Friday Forecast for 2009:

1. Georgia at Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech is brimming with confidence as it goes for its second straight win over the Bulldogs. Georgia, meanwhile, just doesn’t seem to have any answers after last week’s meltdown against Kentucky. Athletically, Georgia should be able to hang around but there is no evidence that the Bulldogs can handle a tough, physical football game for four quarters. That is exactly what Georgia Tech will give them. Georgia Tech 38, Georgia 21.

2. Florida State at Florida: There will be a lot of emotion on the field before this game. Tim Tebow and Florida’s ultra-successful senior class (46-6) will be playing their last home game. Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will be making his last visit to The Swamp as the Seminoles head coach (Even if he comes back next season, the 2010 game will be in Tallahassee). Florida State’s offense, led by freshman quarterback E.J. Manuel, can move the ball. But the defense just can’t stop anybody. Florida is just too strong. The Gators roll and start getting ready for Alabama. Florida 35, Florida State 14.

3. Alabama at Auburn (Friday): Twenty years ago Alabama was ranked No. 2 and headed to a possible national championship when the Crimson Tide was upset at Auburn. But that Auburn team had a great defense and was deep enough to keep from getting worn down. Alabama is on a mission to get back to the SEC championship game and beat Florida. Auburn will make it close early on emotion, but eventually Alabama will get some turnovers and put the Tigers away. Alabama 31, Auburn 10.

4. Arkansas at LSU: I don’t have the words to explain how much LSU’s Les Miles needs to win this game. The LSU fan base has turned up the heat on Miles and his staff since last week’s horrific loss to Ole Miss. Arkansas, however, is playing very, very well. Behind Ryan Mallett the Razorbacks have scored on 41 of 42 possessions (32 touchdowns, nine field goals) in the opponent’s red zone. LSU gets the edge because it is playing at home and because it has a sense of desperation. LSU 24, Arkansas 20.

5. Tennessee at Kentucky: Since freshman Morgan Newton took over at quarterback, the Wildcats (7-4) have been very difficult to stop on offense. Two weeks ago Tennessee (6-5) got drilled by Ole Miss and last week looked lethargic in beating Vanderbilt (31-16). The winner of this one is likely headed to the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. That should get both sides pretty excited. This week’s upset special is: Kentucky 21, Tennessee 20.

6. Ole Miss at Miss. State: Thanks to Dexter McCluster, Ole Miss is finally playing like the team projected to be so good in the preseason. The Rebels (8-3) can lock up a bid to the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day with an impressive win against their state rival. Ole Miss might come out a little flat after an emotional win last week against LSU. But it still has too much firepower. Ole Miss 27, Miss. State 21.

7. South Carolina at Clemson: Few teams in the country are playing as well as Clemson, which has scored 34 or more points in its last six games. Clemson’s C.J. Spiller is still in the Heisman Trophy discussion, so look for him to have a big day against a beat up South Carolina defense. Clemson 24, South Carolina 17.

8. Virginia Tech at Virginia: It’s been a strange year for Virginia Tech (8-3) but the Hokies have a chance to win 10 games against with a victory here and another in the bowl game. Virginia (3-8) will likely be playing its last game under head coach Al Groh. Virginia Tech 27, Virginia 17.

9. North Carolina at N.C. State: North Carolina has been struggling on offense for most of the season but it won’t matter against an N.C. State defense that has given up 30 or more points eight times this season. The Tar Heels finish 9-3 and may be headed to the Chick-fil-A Bowl. North Carolina 38, N.C. State 17.

10. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma: Quarterback Zac Robinson practiced this week and could be back in the lineup. A win probably puts the Cowboys (9-2) in a BCS bowl. Oklahoma State hasn’t won in Norman since 2001, when Les Miles was the head coach. Go with the Cowboys. Oklahoma State 28, Oklahoma 21.

Arkansas beats LSU, South Carolina squeaks by Clemsom, and UT will not give up 4 2nd half turnovers, Vols roll. Agree on the other predictions, but i hear their giving and getting concussions in practice this week in Athens. Does that mean they are practicing tackling? Our corners better man up against Tech , theres no reason to get blocked out in space like that!

Tech’s defense has improved the past 5 games. And duke would beat both you and kentucky. You know you’re in trouble. Tech has WAY too many weapon on offense for you to even think about stopping. We went 5 games without even punting in the second half. It’s going to be ugly. Especially when Morgan B intercepts cox’s first pass and returns it for a TD.

Sorry dawgs but your time has come and gone. You might be back in 3 years. By then PJ will have all he needs to stomp you even more.

PJ will have his team more than ready but it will not be a blow out. Also by the way, this game will not save or fire any coaches. Those decisions have already been made.

Its all about the money, You obviously don’t much about football. Bama looked pitiful against Utah yes. But they were let down because the hopes were so high for an SEC championship and a national title that the game didn’t mean much to the fans or the team. On top of that nobody in the country thought Utah was really any good. Bama underestimated them and weren’t prepared plain and simple. Every team at one point or another has that problem. That game was set up perfectly for an upset and I knew it going in.

If Bama hadn’t lost to Florida and played Utah in the title game it would have been much much different. Utah was still good enough last year that they could beat ANYONE that was sleeping. Florida Texas and Oklahoma were no exception.

The ACC MUST play tougher OOC games because of a weaker conference. The ACC is probably the 4th best conference whereas the SEC is first or second. Ole Miss, LSU Florida and Bama could beat any ACC team with ease this year. GT fans don’t have a leg to stand on since they are playiing the 3 worst teams in the SEC.

Bama has been trying to add tougher OOC games and is continuing to do so. The next 2 seasons we will play Penn State. It’s not needed but they are doing it anyways. Thats Balls if you ask me especially since they have to play 6 SEC teams after their off weeks. Thats tough I don’t care who you are!

I fully expect a painful beatdown at the hand of the hated jackest tomorrow night…BUT know that as usual teks day in the sun will be short lived and as per the last 45 plus years UGA will get things turned around and UGA will again be in their rightful place as the jackets bitch slappin pimps!!

IF…and that is a big IF the jackets win the ACC championship…Sara Palin comes to mind here…lipstick on a hog…you can rest assured it will be a sad day for the Orange Bowl commitee who will be “stuck” with tech and lose millions in ticket sales!

Two words. Joe Cox

Next year we will have a 5 star qb in Murray and things will be reversed. Every team has a down year eventully.

Playing a R-Frosh in the SEC won’t cut it, especially starting QB. With the defenses in the SEC Murray won’t stand a chance. Good luck though.

SEC is SOOOOO overrated!!!

If only they would have to play the best in the BIG10…oh wait.

If only they had to play the best in the BIG12…oh wait.

If only they had a winning bowl record…oh wait.

If only the 2nd best ACC team could play the 5th best SEC team in a bowl…on wait.

OK so here is my idea…let’s schedule the worst two teams in the SEC, win a shootout with our best team and claim we are a better conference!
Hey buddy, my definition of anual is the Peach/Chick-Fil-A Bowl where the 2nd ACC team gets beat by the 5th SEC team. A winning streak of 1 does not make anything anual.

m – the “annual” stomping of UGA? Really? You mean one win in 8 years qualifies as an “annual” stomping. You and your tech buddies need to get a clue. You’ve beat UGA once in 8 years and have yet to win a game of any significance.

Pull off 7 wins in a row and then come back in 2015 and talk about “annual” stomping.

Look, as UGA and SEC fans, we cannot continue to talk out of both sides of our mouths.

When another team beats two SEC teams on the road as part of their non conference schedule, we cannot at the same time berate them for playing “bottom feeders” while we tell anyone who will listen how tough it is to play on the road in the SEC, no matter who it is.

Kudos to Tech for scheduling three SEC teams as part of their OOC slate.

Compare that to Florida, Texas, etc OOC schedules…..Tech’s is much more impressive.

Anyway, I cannot disagree with Tony’s assessment. I don’t know how we’re feeling emotionally right now, but I think whatever motivation we come out with will be gone somtime during the second quarter.

Just not our year, this year.

Let’s just regroup and focus on getting better in 2010.

KY fans are still peeing in their beds over the win against GA. TN Tech would have beat GA if they had gave them FOUR turnovers in the 2nd half. Still shaking my head about that. Anyway, TN will stomp the kittens, PETA will hate TN after the innocent slaughter at Commonwealth stadium. I have the dawgs in an upset, mainly because I am sick of tech fans who can’t handle a little success.

In ALL rivalry games, it pays to EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.

1. GT will beat GA (again, but closer than most expect) GT by 9 pts.

2. Clemson will beat USC (again, but very close)
Could be lots of passing/scoring here.

(Drumroll)

3. FSU will SHOCK THE WORLD with upset of Florida at The Swamp.

Retiring FSU DC Mickey Andrews will have “something special”
dialed up for Tebow & the Gators.

Gators miss the winning FG on the last play. FSU:31 FL:29

ACC will score the “Trifecta” on saturday
and go 6-1 vs SEC for 2009 regular seaosn.

U Gotta B Kidding Me,

The stands may be full of UGA fans at the beginning, but for how long? Will the “faithful” hang around if Tech gets up on the Pups by a couple of touchdowns? The game last week was not settled, the Pups could have won, there was plenty of time to do it, and what do the UGA fans do? Empty the stands and diss the team. BEFORE it was certain that they had lost!

That will affect the Pup players Saturday night. And, they would have every right to flip off the fans just like the fans flipped them off last week.

You can laugh at the Tech fans all you want, calls us nerds and so forth, but when the game is still not certain, and there is a chance that the Jackets could pull out a W in the last few seconds, the GT faithful will not walk out on the team, yelling, cursing, and flipping them off.

We will see who the true fans are on Saturday night… the ones who stay till the end of the game, win or lose. If CPJ runs up the score, and I hope he does, you so-called UGA fans will get everything you deserve. YOU DON’T WALK OUT ON YOUR TEAM IF THERE IS A CHANCE THEY COULD STILL WIN!!!!!!!!!! NOT IF YOU SAY YOU LOVE YOUR TEAM!!!!!!!!!

If you do walk out, then it proves your are just a bunch of red-neck, in-bred, two-faced losers and deserve all the derision from all the other schools you play against. GEEZ!

GT4Ever — you want logical? Remember in 2007, West Virginia only had to beat a bad Pitt team to play for the title? If you do, you’d know anything can happen in a rivalry game. How about Stanford (+41 line) beating USC – Twice?! UGA is very capable of beating Tech. I’m not saying the will. But, any one who knows college football, knows upsets do happen… with regularity. So, look out tough guy! I think all of these braggarts are a little nervous, and they’re shiiiting out any vile they can… ’cause, if they can’t be sure they can win it, they want to at least make it as miserable as they can before hand.
