Nobody asked me but:
1. If Paul Johnson gets the chance, he’ll bring the hammer down on Georgia. State rivalries like Georgia and Georgia Tech are always big recruiting games. Saturday night’s game at Bobby Dodd Stadium will be no different. But in his second year at Georgia Tech, Johnson has infused the football program with confidence at a time where Georgia’s confidence is at a pretty low ebb. There is all kind of positive energy at Georgia Tech. I haven’t seen this much negative energy at Georgia since Jim Donnan’s last year (2000) as head coach. College Football 101 says that when you have your rival in a weakened position, you put your foot on the gas. If Johnson can lay a pretty good number on Georgia, he will. Georgia has enough athletic ability to make this game competitive. But I wonder if they have the heart to fight back. I really do.
2. I think Bobby Bowden will be back at Florida State next season. There is no doubt in my mind that if Florida State had lost to Maryland last week (and the Seminoles scored with 32 seconds left to win 29-26) it would have been very difficult for Bowden to make the case to return for his 35th season as the Seminoles head coach. If he loses at No. 1 Florida on Saturday, and we assume he will, Florida State will be 6-6 and heading to a bowl game. I think there will be considerable pressure for Bowden to step down but he has made it clear to those who know him well that he wants to come back and pursue a final ACC championship. Florida State has promised Bowden that it will be his decision. But this much is also clear. If Bowden comes back, the 2010 season will be his last at Florida State. Everybody understands that.
3. I think Bob Stoops will at least listen to Notre Dame. On the surface, it appears silly to think that Stoops would entertain the thought of another college job. He has one of the best franchises in the sport as the head coach at Oklahoma But the profession has changed. After a coach has been in one place for 11 years (he is 114-29 with seven New Year’s Day or BCS bowls) his support starts to sag unless he’s winning the conference championship every year. It’s been a tough year at Oklahoma, which lost QB Sam Bradford and TE Jermaine Gresham early in the season and has not been the same ever since. Fans become unrealistic and don’t believe the program should ever have a down year. Stoops is a native of Ohio and so he knows the territory. Notre Dame needs a strong personality and a proven winner on the college level. Maybe Stoops, 49, has one more move left in him.
4. Look for Colt McCoy to put up some pretty big numbers against Texas A&M. The Texas quarterback has put himself in position to win the Heisman Trophy with some good games against some pretty weak teams (Baylor, Kansas). The Longhorns get another struggling team when they go to Texas A&M (6-5) on Thanksgiving night. Next week Texas plays Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game. Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has a very good defensive scheme against spread attacks so McCoy probably won’t put up huge numbers against the Cornhuskers. McCoy and Texas will be the only college football game on Thursday night and a lot of Heisman Trophy voters will be watching. Texas will turn McCoy loose and give him a chance to make his move.
5. Rich Brooks should get some votes for SEC Coach of the Year. With a win over Tennessee on Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky will finish 8-4 and in second place in the SEC East. That should be good enough to get the Wildcats into the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. When Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline went down with an injury on Oct. 10, Kentucky was 2-3 and it appeared the Wildcats would stumble towards the finish line. But Brooks elected to take the redshirt off quarterback Morgan Newton and, after a few games, the offense actually got better. Now Kentucky has won five of its last six. Kentucky began playing football in 1888. In all that time no coach—not even Bear Bryant—has taken the Wildcats to four straight bowl games. This will be Kentucky’s fourth consecutive bowl (they have won the previous three) under Brooks.

One thing for sure, the dawgs won’t “play their balls off” Saturday. They haven’t seen them since September 5 in Stillwater.

dap101…..PJ did not invent football. But I understand he was at the meeting when the topic was discussed. They asked him to leave the room after he suggested that his team would run the option offense. He was shown the door with the comment, ” never work, defenses are too fast”!

GT93,
Happy Thanksgiving. You have the right attitude. Tech fans have every right to be proud of the recent accomplishments of their football program, but some of the more outspoken trash-talkers on this blog seem to have no idea just how quickly these things can turn around.
It’s always preferable to enter a rivalry game as the favorite, but one of the most exciting things about these games is the occasional ability of the underdog to pull off the ‘David vs. Goliath’ upset. I don’t expect Georgia to do that this year, but if they do, then the crow is going to be very hard for some of these guys (and gals) to swallow.
Hope everyone has a safe and pleasant holiday weekend!
My SEC predictions:
Auburn loses to Alabama
LSU loses to Arkansas *
MSU loses to Ole Miss *
FSU loses to Florida
Georgia loses to Georgia Tech
Tennessee loses to Kentucky *
Vandy doesn’t lose this week

While Paul Johnson has the Jackets focused on beating the Dogs on Saturday, let’s talk about the Orange Bowl. That’s right Tech is headed to the Orange Bowl with a win over Clemson. Love to see a TCU vs Tech bowl game.
Tech fans do not waste any energy on the dogs. Beating this trash is a foregone conclusion.

To Alabama Jack we of the Dawg nation prepare to play our greatest foe this weekend..until that game is played and the outcome in the record books we are 7-1 in the last 8 years..How pray tell has Bama fared against their greatest foe Auburn in that same time span? Until Bama actually wins something you don’t get to call us names in years you don’t play us.Gators can, Vols can and if they win Sat Bugs can..Bama can’t..win at least the SEC then talk tough.

HA HA HA
Falcons…………….. SUCK
Bulldogs……………………. SUCK
It doesn’t surprise me, since Georgia Tech is the only team in the state that has a “FAIR” and open quarterback competition regardless of eye color.
It’s no coincident that Tech’s national title year was because who was a quarterback and the same goes for this season and the Dawgs & Falcons sucked with Green & Stafford and that fool BoBo (Hines Ward was better) and now the NOODLE ARM guy with the Falcons.
GO TECH – You will always excel while the other scrubs fail.
Keep that “FAIR” and open competition under center

Saying no one, not even the Bear, took Kentucky to 4 straight bowl games is very misleading. Now that over 50 teams a year go to Bowl games is quite a lot easier to go.
Brooks is a very good coach, but his accomplishments actually pale in comparison to what the Bear did at Kentucky!!!

Woe, Georgia should be scared of this hammer???? Not.
Dwyer got 7 yards on 5 carries against Miami.
The QB had 28 on 14 carries.
Powerful running game there, that triple option. Ha!

It’s fun to pick out single game performances, isn’t it? Dwyer was hurt against Miami (shoulder stinger), but I digress since research isn’t your strong suit. How has Richard Samuel fared since he got hurt? Nesbitt… perhaps you should ask Mississippi State what they think of him. Cox… he sure had a stellar game against Tennessee. I suspect it might be better to look at the body of work, but who am I to suggest that to you? See you Saturday “Dwyer gets 7″. You’re welcome to bbq pork and Brunswick stew at my tailgate.

Mark this down—richt will not beat paul johnson. After a few more losses to johnson, meyer and kiffin, uga moves right out and brings in a coach who at least can compete with these coaches.

Mr. Barnhart,
One out of five predictions in less than a week’s time must be embarrassing.
1. Ga. Tech and Ga. must have traded jerseys for Saturday’s game because they both played like the other looked all season.
2. Do you still think Bobby Bowden will be coaching FSU next year?
3. The Oklahoma Stoops will not Stoop to Notre Dame, but the Arizona Stoops might. If Notre Dame will provide a walker, do you think Bobby Bowden might consider it?
4. At least Colt McCoy covered one of your predictions. Perhaps you should have waited a week before making the others.
5. The jury’s still out, but my guess is Urban or Saban. Flip a coin. Sounds like it’s got as much a chance at being right as your predictions. Better get a new crystal ball… and a new hammer for Paul Johnson for beating off Dawgs next year.
