Nobody asked me but:
1. If Paul Johnson gets the chance, he’ll bring the hammer down on Georgia. State rivalries like Georgia and Georgia Tech are always big recruiting games. Saturday night’s game at Bobby Dodd Stadium will be no different. But in his second year at Georgia Tech, Johnson has infused the football program with confidence at a time where Georgia’s confidence is at a pretty low ebb. There is all kind of positive energy at Georgia Tech. I haven’t seen this much negative energy at Georgia since Jim Donnan’s last year (2000) as head coach. College Football 101 says that when you have your rival in a weakened position, you put your foot on the gas. If Johnson can lay a pretty good number on Georgia, he will. Georgia has enough athletic ability to make this game competitive. But I wonder if they have the heart to fight back. I really do.
2. I think Bobby Bowden will be back at Florida State next season. There is no doubt in my mind that if Florida State had lost to Maryland last week (and the Seminoles scored with 32 seconds left to win 29-26) it would have been very difficult for Bowden to make the case to return for his 35th season as the Seminoles head coach. If he loses at No. 1 Florida on Saturday, and we assume he will, Florida State will be 6-6 and heading to a bowl game. I think there will be considerable pressure for Bowden to step down but he has made it clear to those who know him well that he wants to come back and pursue a final ACC championship. Florida State has promised Bowden that it will be his decision. But this much is also clear. If Bowden comes back, the 2010 season will be his last at Florida State. Everybody understands that.
3. I think Bob Stoops will at least listen to Notre Dame. On the surface, it appears silly to think that Stoops would entertain the thought of another college job. He has one of the best franchises in the sport as the head coach at Oklahoma But the profession has changed. After a coach has been in one place for 11 years (he is 114-29 with seven New Year’s Day or BCS bowls) his support starts to sag unless he’s winning the conference championship every year. It’s been a tough year at Oklahoma, which lost QB Sam Bradford and TE Jermaine Gresham early in the season and has not been the same ever since. Fans become unrealistic and don’t believe the program should ever have a down year. Stoops is a native of Ohio and so he knows the territory. Notre Dame needs a strong personality and a proven winner on the college level. Maybe Stoops, 49, has one more move left in him.
4. Look for Colt McCoy to put up some pretty big numbers against Texas A&M. The Texas quarterback has put himself in position to win the Heisman Trophy with some good games against some pretty weak teams (Baylor, Kansas). The Longhorns get another struggling team when they go to Texas A&M (6-5) on Thanksgiving night. Next week Texas plays Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game. Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has a very good defensive scheme against spread attacks so McCoy probably won’t put up huge numbers against the Cornhuskers. McCoy and Texas will be the only college football game on Thursday night and a lot of Heisman Trophy voters will be watching. Texas will turn McCoy loose and give him a chance to make his move.
5. Rich Brooks should get some votes for SEC Coach of the Year. With a win over Tennessee on Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky will finish 8-4 and in second place in the SEC East. That should be good enough to get the Wildcats into the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. When Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline went down with an injury on Oct. 10, Kentucky was 2-3 and it appeared the Wildcats would stumble towards the finish line. But Brooks elected to take the redshirt off quarterback Morgan Newton and, after a few games, the offense actually got better. Now Kentucky has won five of its last six. Kentucky began playing football in 1888. In all that time no coach—not even Bear Bryant—has taken the Wildcats to four straight bowl games. This will be Kentucky’s fourth consecutive bowl (they have won the previous three) under Brooks.

PhD,
As an undergrad at Bama, I learned about betting the hard way. I’d bet on the Bama game every week. Back then, because Stallings was such a gentleman, Bama never covered. I haven’t placed a bet in 15 years. Now, Bama covers almost every game! lol

Take UGA and the seven points if you like, but you have about a thousand times better chance of winning the lottery. Either way, you’re throwing your money away.

To: Dawg Central and Mark Richt is the Man!
I’ve been reading everyone’s comments about the upcoming rivalry game between #7 GT and UGAy, but your comments stood out to me as one that I have to comment on. I know you would love to be able to brag and talk smack to us Tech fans at Bobby Dodd Stadium, but that’s not going to happen because we have the #2 rush defense in the nation, we have the possible coach of the year, and basically our team as a whole is a lot better than UGAy’s hands down!!
Things I’ve noticed based on what I’ve read:
The only thing you got on us is LAST YEAR’S Peach bowl loss to LSU, and our ONLY loss this season to Miami. Y’all can’t talk because didn’t UGA lose to LSU this year, AT HOME?? The difference between GT and UGA’s losses is that we lost to quality teams, and you didn’t. I understand, and I am truly sorry about y’all losses to Florida, Oklahoma State, and LSU, but what the hell happened to y’all against Tennessee and Kentucky? Our 2nd string could have beaten both of them.
So if you want to try to “dawg” Tech out, then get your facts straight, and see if UGAy beat the teams Tech lost to, and quite frankly you didn’t. 6-5? That’s the worst record for a somewhat powerhouse team since Jim Donnan’s last year coaching in 2000. I was a Junior at GT when that happened, and I count the record of wins and losses between GT and UGAy from when I started school. I won’t forget the 7 game winning streak y’all had on us that was stopped last year thanks to Roddy Jones, a FRESHMAN, rushing for 220 yards. So you don’t forget the 3 game winning streak that we put on y’all, all with your starting QB being Quincy Carter, and we had the Heisman Runner up, JOE HAMILTON!!!
Anyway, with all said and done, GT will be on top, and UGA will be at the bottom, like I was with your moms last night. LMAO!!

As a Football fan I do not want UGA to fir Mr. Mark Richt over the Tech game. Mr. Richt is a clss act. The UGA fans are spoiled. Plus there are enough players in Georgia for UGA, Tech, plus Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, UT, Florida, FUS and USC. You can only sign 25 playersa year and can only have 85 on your roster as scholarship players. What UGA fans need to understand is the residue from the idiotic Jan Kemp needs to be pushed out. Players do not want the Jan Kemp and the UGA police force harassing them on trumped charges. You saw what happened to UT when the cops made up that story last week. Look at the betting of the cops at UT and UGA and you get the idea. One day the Internal Revenue Service will audit these campus pigs and the story will come out on how the cops try to influnece football and basketball games at UGA and UT.

I think Richt is saving Murray for next year so he can be SEC Coach of the Year when he goes 10-1. This year’s freshmen and sophomore receivers have the speed and agility of UF. Now, UGA just needs a QB who won’t rush his decisions and a power back. Martinez will be gone after Saturday’s game against Tech so that a new Defensive Coordinator can come on board.
By the way, Georgia will finally be able to run and throw on Saturday, keeping up with Tech the entire first half. The second half will do them in because the defense will be too tired to tackle.

Carrie,
If I were a Tech fan I’d wish for coaches that I could beat 1 out of 8 times because, for Tech, it could be a lot worse. 1 out of every 8 is like a dream come true for a Tech fan. 1 out of 8 is a .125 winning percentage. That’s like double Tech’s winning perecentage over the last 40 years isn’t it?
If you could just have all of the coaches who you beat 1 out of 8 eight seasons stay at thier respective schools forever that would make the Piss-Colored Nation very happy indeed wouldn’t it?
You probably want Bowden to stay forever because you are what 1 and 15 against the guy? If some other coach shows up at FSU they might win 20 in a row against you.
Yep, you want the once every decade kind of opponents if you are a Techie. I’m guessing you were loving having CMR at Georgia even after 7 losses in a row simply because you knew that the streak just had to end sometime didn’t you? Had UGA brought in someone new he may have gone on a 7 game win streak too and that’s 14 in a row. I know losing 14 in a row is probably tolerable for a Tech fan as each generation of nerds only desires/expects that one solitary win during their teens and twenties, but 14 years is a long time even for the very patient and accustomed to losing Tech fan.
BTW: Thank you for reminding me to give thanks tomorrow that I had the good fortune not to be a really, really stupid Tech fan like yourself and finally, GFY.

It will be interesting to see how Paul Johnson does in 2010 if he doesn’t have Dwyer, Thomas, Morgan, and/or Burnett. One thing Tech fans have to remember is that these guys, including Nesbitt, were all Gailey recruits. Tech did recruit well under Gailey. The man just couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I expect Paul Johnson to continue to be a very good coach. It’s just likely that the results in the future might not be quite as great as what you’ve had this season. Dawg fans aren’t the only ones who get spoiled by success. Enjoy this season and, well, your double-digit victory over us this weekend.

GT_88, GT Big Boss – you predicted that Georgia would get blown out and only score 17 and 21, respectively.
I think Tech will probably win because they have a great offense and we have a lousy defense, but if Georgia can’t score more than 21 points against your sorry defense, then we need more coaches than Willie Martinez to be shown the door. I could see you winning something like 45-35, but your predictions aren’t realistic. Tech isn’t that good on both sides of the ball.

And they also seem to forget that Joe Cox will throw picks and the young running backs will fumble. If you take UGA and the points your an idiot(UGA 83). The final score will be GT- 49 UGA-24.
