Last week was a tough one because I believed Duke could beat North Carolina, Oklahoma could beat Nebraska, Notre Dame could beat Navy (what was I thinking there?) and Penn State could beat Ohio State.
That puts us at 73-27 for the season. We’ll try to do better this week as we get on the Fearless Friday Forecast:
1. Georgia Tech at Duke: Georgia Tech should be able to go up to Wallace Wade Stadium and take care of business and clinch the ACC Coastal. The Duke defense is banged up and I don’t see the Blue Devils stopping the Jackets at any point in this game. But the Yellow Jackets could stop themselves. If Tech lays the ball on the ground, this one could get a little scary. Georgia Tech 38, Duke 24.
2. Auburn at Georgia: Georgia gets back to basics behind running back Washaun Ealey, who looks more and more like the answer at tailback. The Bulldogs control the ball and limit the possessions of the Auburn offense. If Georgia can’t run the ball against the SEC’s No. 10 rushing defense, then the Bulldogs are in big trouble. Georgia 24, Auburn 17.
3. Alabama at Mississippi State: Mississippi State played LSU and Florida to the wire at home and should have some confidence as the nation’s No. 2 team comes to Starkville. Alabama is coming off a tough, physical game against LSU and might be a little flat. Still, Alabama’s defense is just too good and forces Mississippi State into three or more turnovers. Alabama 28, Mississippi State 9.
4. Florida at South Carolina: Steve Spurrier says he’s going to start calling the ball plays again and so the Gamecocks might keep this close for a while. But Florida’s defense is going to light up Stephen Garcia. Don’t be surprised if the Gators get at least three interceptions. Florida wins ugly (again) and moves to 10-0. Florida 28, South Carolina 17.
5. Tennessee at Ole Miss: It’s hard to say what effect, if any, Thursday’s arrests will have on team. These things either bring a team closer together or causes it to splinter. The timing could not be worse. I think Tennessee still wins because Monte Kiffin’s defense is so good and will continue to frustrate Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead. It also helps that the light has finally come on for Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton. Tennessee 17, Ole Miss 14.
6. Florida State at Wake Forest: The Seminoles (4-5) will be without quarterback Christian Ponder, who suffered a separated shoulder in last week’s loss to Clemson and is out for the rest of the season. Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel will get this first career start against the Deacons, who have beaten Florida State three straight times. Make it four. Of Wake Forest’s six losses, five have been by three points or less. The Deacons are due to win a close game. Wake Forest 28, Florida State 27.
7. Utah at TCU: TCU (9-0) is ranked No. 4 in the BCS and needs to keep winning to stay in the national championship discussion. TCU has a veteran quarterback in Andy Dalton, who has led the Horned Frogs to over 500 yards in their last two games. Utah will start a true freshman quarterback in Jordan Wynn. TCU has the nation’s No. 3 defense. The numbers don’t add up for Utah. TCU 24, Utah 14.
8. Iowa at Ohio State: Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was lost for the season in last week’s 17-10 loss to Northwestern. So freshman James Vandenberg will get his first career start before 105,000 at Ohio State’s famed Horseshoe. Win the game and Iowa goes to the Rose Bowl. Ohio State (8-2) must beat Iowa and Michigan to go to Pasadena. Iowa is very good on defense but I have go with the Buckeyes. Ohio State 17, Iowa 13.
9. Notre Dame at Pittsburgh: Notre Dame lost to Navy last week for the second time in three years. Charlie Weis says it’s not about him, it’s about Pittsburgh. Actually, Charlie, it’s all about you at this point. Notre Dame falls to 6-4 and speculation begins. Yes, Urban Meyer, that will include you. Pittsburgh 31, Notre Dame 21.
10. Stanford at Southern California: Stanford RB Toby Gerhart just plowed through Oregon last week for a school record 223 yards and three touchdowns. Remember that this is the USC defense that gave up 394 yards rushing to Oregon on Oct. 31. It is tempting to pick Stanford but USC knows it has to keep winning to keep its hopes alive for a BCS bowl. Southern California 28, Stanford 21.

Hmm…eye gouging incident where Ealey admitted he was never touched and that the whole thing was overblown, and we get round the clock multiple posts coverage.
3 alleged armed robberies, not a sniff.
Then the classic “If Georgia can’t run the ball against the SEC’s No. 10 rushing defense, then the Bulldogs are in big trouble”
- Hey Big Tone, what games have you been watching this season. UGA is already in big trouble regardless of how the run against Auburn. They’re not a good team and you’re the only one who doesn’t see/admit it.
Typical Gator-biased mutt nonsense from the ring leader.

Does anyone else think that at least 1 of the Tennessee bandits will be back on the squad next year. Ole Miss will come through tommorrow. Dont see Iowa hanging with Ohio State tommorrow. The spread is 17 and I think the Buckeyes cover. Dawgs game is a coin flip. Duke is not a big time team that is thriving in a weak conference. FSU is in big trouble without Ponder. Texas Tech over Ok. State is my upset pick this week. Anybody else got a good one?

Just wondering if any GT fans on the blog today will be making the trip to Durham as I will be. It is a much bigger accomplishment than most realize, only affording one loss to win out the Coastal as well as hats off to CPJ in his 2nd year to come this far this quickly. If Tech is quilty of anything, CPJ and the team made it look alot easier than it could possibly be with wins at FSU and VA on the road as well as UNC, Clemson and VT at home. We could win the national championship and you will have finger pointers saying GT didn’t accomplish a thing out of jealousy and not truth. This team and coach deserve fans to be on hand and I congratulate them on a job well done regardless of what happens the rest of the way.
When we won the Coastal back in 2006, the deciding factor came at UNC but with your usual fan base on hand for a road game. I realize Durham is a long drive from Atlanta but just want to show this team they are worth it. Thank you Jackets, go get ‘em in Durham!

lol. georgia would rank number one in recruiting and pre-season accolades, but in the second tier in actual season record in football and dead last in academics. ACC (Academic Class Colleges)

Dawgs really need to beat Awbarn…..and should.
GIT should out-score Duke….and will.
Bama beats Miss State in Stark Vegas….MSU makes too many mistakes on offense.
Gators eat Chickens…..bones and all.
Tennysee steals the game from Ole Miss…..and also cleans out the Rebs personal possessions from their locker room.
TCU scalps the Utes.
Pitt beats Notre Dame to begin the speculation on whether it’ll be white smoke or black smoke coming from the Vatican of American football.
Even Ohio State can beat the headless Hawkeyes.
I remember when USC vs. Stanford was considered a mismatch of epic proportions….Trojans still hold up under pressure.

Why does this state only have 2 Div 1 football teams? You’d think with all the talent here, having more people than any state in the SE except for Fla, we could have more than one school in Div 1. Look how many our neighbors have…and I am missing some
Fla has around 6 programs.
Sc has 2
Nc around 6
Tenn 4-5
Alab 2 or 3?
La 3

Traditional powers Wake, Duke! Wow, Ga Tech and FSU facing such tough road trips as going to Durham for Duke, and to Winston Salem for Wake Forrest. I guess it depends on your perspective, kind of like public schools. Rathers than pulling the less achievers up, you pull the over acheivers down to make things balance. Tech Rolls, FSU Rolls, Ga Rolls, in fact they all look right except this the old ball coach wins and the big ball coach, Wies, wins. Has anynone thought what Spurrier might do with the talent at ND. Just a thought.

The Jackets will roll in Durham and clinch. The Pups will need to do more than make a fashion statement to beat the War Eagles, I pick the Pups to win… but if they meet their typical quota of penalties and turnovers all bets are off. Tennessee will make a lousey week perfect by getting beat. South Carolina may make Florida work a whole lot harder than they would like to to win this one. Potential upset here.
Bama better not come in flat or lazy this weekend or they could go home greatly humbled. I pick Bama, but another one that has upset all over it. Kentucky will beat Vandy. Clemson will take a W from NC State. Wake will win one against Bobby Bowden. Boise State will have its hands full with Idaho, Cincy will be upset by WVA, TCU will take a win away from Utah. Texas doesn’t get winded in their beat down of Baylor.

I agree with all Tony’s picks except I would have to take Auburn over UGA. Auburn hit a midseason slump but picked it back up again and have some momentum going. Georgia I think looks a little in disarray and its hard to coach a team knowing that at least a couple of coaches like WM are going to be fired at the end of the season. That is not a good atmosphere as far as players paying attention to a lame duck coach like WM. I think that will hurt the dogs more through the rest of the season than anybody they will play.

As I predicted the 49ners beat the Bears. The Falcons had better take their A game with them on the bus to Carolina. If they don’t they will be coming back to the Falcon nest with an L stamped on their butt. Falcons win, but it could be a close one. The Saints ain’t about to get beat this weekend. Farve will light up Detroit and have Stafford taking notes, and CJ second guessing his fate. Dallas will cut the Cheeze, but this one could end up being a war, and close. The Eagles did win on the West Coast earlier this year, and they won’t win on this trip west either. The best game of the weekend for the NFL will be the Pats against the Colts. Colts win, but this is going to be a fun one to watch.

buckblue,
Bama is 6th in the conference in penalties. If the refs are helping us they’re doing a piss poor job of it.
Yeah, you can whine about one bad call the Peterson int. which wouldn’t have made a difference in the game anyway. LSU was down to a backup tailback and backup qb and could only manage 9 total yds in 11 plays in the 4th qtr and we outplayed them 452 total yds to 253. People like you for some reason have a hard time dealing with the fact that the better team on that day won.
But if the you think the refs are being paid to help us then you must likewise agree that they must be getting paid minimum wage judging by their overall season long performance.

1. Tech should take it. History says an upset is likely, but logic says no way. We’ll see.

3. Man oh man I so want to pick the upset here. The fact that Bama played a hard game last week and MSU had a bye is all I need to hear. Mullen is for real, though his team might not be. I think he can pull this one out for some reason. Here is my upset special of the week.
4. Florida has never had an undfeated season. USC rallies behin the ol’ ball coach and a little bit of fate. Spurrier put’s a smudge on Florida’s championship run.
5. Hasn’t anyone learned that Ole Miss is overated yet? UT lost 3 freshman. That will hurt more next year than this year. UT wins.
6. zzz FSU wins
7. And the consolation BCS bowl goes to TCU!
8. Hmm, I think Iowa get’s back on track and knocks off OSU to win the Big 10.
9. I can’t help but smirk to see Notre Name fall. Pitt keeps pushing them down.
10. Me thinks USC is missing something. Standford will win with more heart and talent.

Georgia’s best RB has 281 yards. Auburn’s best RB has over 1,000. I think Auburn will establish the run, but not Georgia. Bobo will have to push the ball in the air. Both teams might be 2nd and 15 or 3rd and 20 on multiple occasions given the penalties that will probably play a big part. So that might actually be in Georgia’s favor, given the almost assured big performance from AJ Green.

buckblue – quit with this bull$hit the refs are paid crap. Have you seen Alabama play this season? They are DOMINANT on defense. Offense maybe not. That dumb interception penalty wouldnt have done anything for the Who’s. Bamas defense would have stuffed them anyway.
Take all your conspiracy theories and shove up your little a$$.

Got 12? – That’s an interesting point, the rankings when the teams played, as opposed to current rankings. One of the schools actually lists the opponents’ rankings on their schedule results (FSU, I think, maybe someone else I looked at). It’s always been a point for me that Ga.Tech plays a ranked team, beats them, and then they drop out of the top 10, so the critics then say, “Tech hasn’t played anybody.”

Going by what has happened so far this season:
First half, Duke will throw about four touchdown
passes and Tech will choke. At halftime the
sorcerer Johnson will utter secret incantations,
and Tech will come out and dominate the second
half, clinching the win early in the 4th quarter.

DUKE: If Duke could start going to bowls every year, Coach K may find out he competition from something other than the Tar Heels. I’ve seen this at Kentucky, they may live and die basketball, but they absolutely go crazy when their football team is good. Let’s hope they win the ones after the Tech game. If any AD’s had a brains they would be sending feelers out to the Duke coach; anybody that can win there can win anywhere.

Thats funny, because the defensive stats in the second half is stout. They come out and play like they wanna murder someone, and its probably after the chewing from CPJ.

UT96 : Most the people on the ajc blogs won’t take the time to read the facts of the ongoing investigation. The implication alone is enough and all it takes to revel in blind moral superiority which is as false as their teeth. You’re pissing up a rope trying to defend the issue of Jackson vs the acts of the other two. I mean, people would actually have to read the unfolding story…
Now, for my picks : UT 38 Ole MS 11…Winners are UGA, FL, AL…I’ll go out on a limb with a pellet gun and pick off two upset specials just for the fun of it, Duke and Stanford. We don’t play for money, do we..?

Joe scoring 2 touchdowns late in the 4th quarter doesn’t mean that you dominate Vanderbilt,or Miss State. Come on guys, accept your team as a good team, and don’t run down the other guys. You never hear UNC talking about how pitiful Ga Tech basketball program shows.

Auburn beats UGA. Both defenses can’t tackle but Malzahn is far better than Bobo. Auburn has fewer penalties and turn overs.
Ole Miss wins over UT. UT has been rolling over some week competition.

Tech has got to really throttle back on the offense. These long run TDs keep giving the opponent the ball too much. Crank out 8 or 9 minute drives, and hold Duke to about 6 possesions. If the D gives up the points like in the Mississippi St. game, then go ahead and unleash the fury. CPJ will make the proper call, not me. I’m just imagining.

They must like wearing Orange and getting a meal plan.
Sorry that was just wide open. Yes UGA had problems with the rape charges on the Basketball team. Sooner or later we all have kids that do something stupid. Only time will tell if it is a trend for Lane

Joe My man, UGA fans bought the season tix and then unload the others, the same as the did with ASU, OSU, and any other team that we play home in home out of the conference. That is why there are so many Ga fans at the Ga Ga Tech game in Atlanta, and so few Tech Fans at the game in Athens. No offense, just fact.
