Georgia Tech wraps up the division at Duke

Last week was a tough one because I believed Duke could beat North Carolina, Oklahoma could beat Nebraska, Notre Dame could beat Navy (what was I thinking there?) and Penn State could beat Ohio State.

That puts us at 73-27 for the season. We’ll try to do better this week as we get on the Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Georgia Tech at Duke: Georgia Tech should be able to go up to Wallace Wade Stadium and take care of business and clinch the ACC Coastal. The Duke defense is banged up and I don’t see the Blue Devils stopping the Jackets at any point in this game. But the Yellow Jackets could stop themselves. If Tech lays the ball on the ground, this one could get a little scary. Georgia Tech 38, Duke 24.

2. Auburn at Georgia: Georgia gets back to basics behind running back Washaun Ealey, who looks more and more like the answer at tailback. The Bulldogs control the ball and limit the possessions of the Auburn offense. If Georgia can’t run the ball against the SEC’s No. 10 rushing defense, then the Bulldogs are in big trouble. Georgia 24, Auburn 17.

3. Alabama at Mississippi State: Mississippi State played LSU and Florida to the wire at home and should have some confidence as the nation’s No. 2 team comes to Starkville. Alabama is coming off a tough, physical game against LSU and might be a little flat.  Still, Alabama’s defense is just too good and forces Mississippi State into three or more turnovers. Alabama 28, Mississippi State 9.

4. Florida at South Carolina: Steve Spurrier says he’s going to start calling the ball plays again and so the Gamecocks might keep this close for a while. But Florida’s defense is going to light up Stephen Garcia. Don’t be surprised if the Gators get at least three interceptions. Florida wins ugly (again) and moves to 10-0. Florida 28, South Carolina 17.

5. Tennessee at Ole Miss: It’s hard to say what effect, if any, Thursday’s arrests will have on team. These things either bring a team closer together or causes it to splinter. The timing could not be worse. I think Tennessee still wins because Monte Kiffin’s defense is so good and will continue to frustrate Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead.  It also helps that the light has finally come on for Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton. Tennessee 17, Ole Miss 14.

6. Florida State at Wake Forest: The Seminoles (4-5) will be without quarterback Christian Ponder, who suffered a separated shoulder in last week’s loss to Clemson and is out for the rest of the season. Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel will get this first career start against the Deacons, who have beaten Florida State three straight times. Make it four.  Of Wake Forest’s six losses, five have been by three points or less. The Deacons are due to win a close game. Wake Forest 28, Florida State 27.

7. Utah at TCU: TCU (9-0) is ranked No. 4 in the BCS and needs to keep winning to stay in the national championship discussion. TCU has a veteran quarterback in Andy Dalton, who has led the Horned Frogs to over 500 yards in their last two games. Utah will start a true freshman quarterback in Jordan Wynn. TCU has the nation’s No. 3 defense. The numbers don’t add up for Utah. TCU 24, Utah 14.

8. Iowa at Ohio State: Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was lost for the season in last week’s 17-10 loss to Northwestern. So freshman James Vandenberg will get his first career start before 105,000 at Ohio State’s famed Horseshoe. Win the game and Iowa goes to the Rose Bowl. Ohio State (8-2) must beat Iowa and Michigan to go to Pasadena. Iowa is very good on defense but I have go with the Buckeyes. Ohio State 17, Iowa 13.

9. Notre Dame at Pittsburgh: Notre Dame lost to Navy last week for the second time in three years. Charlie Weis says it’s not about him, it’s about Pittsburgh. Actually, Charlie, it’s all about you at this point. Notre Dame falls to 6-4 and speculation begins. Yes, Urban Meyer, that will include you. Pittsburgh 31, Notre Dame 21.

10. Stanford at Southern California: Stanford RB Toby Gerhart just plowed through Oregon last week for a school record 223 yards and three touchdowns. Remember that this is the USC defense that gave up 394 yards rushing to Oregon on Oct. 31. It is tempting to pick Stanford but USC knows it has to keep winning to keep its hopes alive for a BCS bowl. Southern California 28, Stanford 21.

Hmm…eye gouging incident where Ealey admitted he was never touched and that the whole thing was overblown, and we get round the clock multiple posts coverage.

3 alleged armed robberies, not a sniff.

Then the classic “If Georgia can’t run the ball against the SEC’s No. 10 rushing defense, then the Bulldogs are in big trouble”
- Hey Big Tone, what games have you been watching this season. UGA is already in big trouble regardless of how the run against Auburn. They’re not a good team and you’re the only one who doesn’t see/admit it.

Typical Gator-biased mutt nonsense from the ring leader.

Does anyone else think that at least 1 of the Tennessee bandits will be back on the squad next year. Ole Miss will come through tommorrow. Dont see Iowa hanging with Ohio State tommorrow. The spread is 17 and I think the Buckeyes cover. Dawgs game is a coin flip. Duke is not a big time team that is thriving in a weak conference. FSU is in big trouble without Ponder. Texas Tech over Ok. State is my upset pick this week. Anybody else got a good one?

Just wondering if any GT fans on the blog today will be making the trip to Durham as I will be. It is a much bigger accomplishment than most realize, only affording one loss to win out the Coastal as well as hats off to CPJ in his 2nd year to come this far this quickly. If Tech is quilty of anything, CPJ and the team made it look alot easier than it could possibly be with wins at FSU and VA on the road as well as UNC, Clemson and VT at home. We could win the national championship and you will have finger pointers saying GT didn’t accomplish a thing out of jealousy and not truth. This team and coach deserve fans to be on hand and I congratulate them on a job well done regardless of what happens the rest of the way.

When we won the Coastal back in 2006, the deciding factor came at UNC but with your usual fan base on hand for a road game. I realize Durham is a long drive from Atlanta but just want to show this team they are worth it. Thank you Jackets, go get ‘em in Durham!

Dawgs really need to beat Awbarn…..and should.

GIT should out-score Duke….and will.

Bama beats Miss State in Stark Vegas….MSU makes too many mistakes on offense.

Gators eat Chickens…..bones and all.

Tennysee steals the game from Ole Miss…..and also cleans out the Rebs personal possessions from their locker room.

TCU scalps the Utes.

Pitt beats Notre Dame to begin the speculation on whether it’ll be white smoke or black smoke coming from the Vatican of American football.

Even Ohio State can beat the headless Hawkeyes.

I remember when USC vs. Stanford was considered a mismatch of epic proportions….Trojans still hold up under pressure.

Why does this state only have 2 Div 1 football teams? You’d think with all the talent here, having more people than any state in the SE except for Fla, we could have more than one school in Div 1. Look how many our neighbors have…and I am missing some
Fla has around 6 programs.
Sc has 2
Nc around 6
Tenn 4-5
Alab 2 or 3?
La 3
Miss 3
the fact la and miss have 3 and we only have 2 is just weird. Ga southern should have moved to Div 1 years ago.

Traditional powers Wake, Duke! Wow, Ga Tech and FSU facing such tough road trips as going to Durham for Duke, and to Winston Salem for Wake Forrest. I guess it depends on your perspective, kind of like public schools. Rathers than pulling the less achievers up, you pull the over acheivers down to make things balance. Tech Rolls, FSU Rolls, Ga Rolls, in fact they all look right except this the old ball coach wins and the big ball coach, Wies, wins. Has anynone thought what Spurrier might do with the talent at ND. The Jackets will roll in Durham and clinch. The Pups will need to do more than make a fashion statement to beat the War Eagles, I pick the Pups to win… but if they meet their typical quota of penalties and turnovers all bets are off. Tennessee will make a lousey week perfect by getting beat. South Carolina may make Florida work a whole lot harder than they would like to to win this one. Potential upset here.

Bama better not come in flat or lazy this weekend or they could go home greatly humbled. I pick Bama, but another one that has upset all over it. Kentucky will beat Vandy. Clemson will take a W from NC State. Wake will win one against Bobby Bowden. Boise State will have its hands full with Idaho, Cincy will be upset by WVA, TCU will take a win away from Utah. Texas doesn’t get winded in their beat down of Baylor.

I agree with all Tony’s picks except I would have to take Auburn over UGA. Auburn hit a midseason slump but picked it back up again and have some momentum going. Georgia I think looks a little in disarray and its hard to coach a team knowing that at least a couple of coaches like WM are going to be fired at the end of the season. That is not a good atmosphere as far as players paying attention to a lame duck coach like WM. I think that will hurt the dogs more through the rest of the season than anybody they will play.

Al,

That is a very good question. Why doesn’t Georgia have more FBS teams?

As I predicted the 49ners beat the Bears. The Falcons had better take their A game with them on the bus to Carolina. If they don’t they will be coming back to the Falcon nest with an L stamped on their butt. Falcons win, but it could be a close one. The Saints ain’t about to get beat this weekend. Farve will light up Detroit and have Stafford taking notes, and CJ second guessing his fate. Dallas will cut the Cheeze, but this one could end up being a war, and close. The Eagles did win on the West Coast earlier this year, and they won’t win on this trip west either. The best game of the weekend for the NFL will be the Pats against the Colts. Colts win, but this is going to be a fun one to watch.

buckblue,

Bama is 6th in the conference in penalties. If the refs are helping us they’re doing a piss poor job of it.

Yeah, you can whine about one bad call the Peterson int. which wouldn’t have made a difference in the game anyway. LSU was down to a backup tailback and backup qb and could only manage 9 total yds in 11 plays in the 4th qtr and we outplayed them 452 total yds to 253. People like you for some reason have a hard time dealing with the fact that the better team on that day won.

But if the you think the refs are being paid to help us then you must likewise agree that they must be getting paid minimum wage judging by their overall season long performance.

3. Man oh man I so want to pick the upset here. The fact that Bama played a hard game last week and MSU had a bye is all I need to hear. Mullen is for real, though his team might not be. I think he can pull this one out for some reason. Here is my upset special of the week.

4. Florida has never had an undfeated season. USC rallies behin the ol’ ball coach and a little bit of fate. Spurrier put’s a smudge on Florida’s championship run.

5. Hasn’t anyone learned that Ole Miss is overated yet? UT lost 3 freshman. That will hurt more next year than this year. UT wins.

6. zzz FSU wins

7. And the consolation BCS bowl goes to TCU!

8. Hmm, I think Iowa get’s back on track and knocks off OSU to win the Big 10.

9. I can’t help but smirk to see Notre Name fall. Pitt keeps pushing them down.

Georgia’s best RB has 281 yards. Auburn’s best RB has over 1,000. I think Auburn will establish the run, but not Georgia. Bobo will have to push the ball in the air. Both teams might be 2nd and 15 or 3rd and 20 on multiple occasions given the penalties that will probably play a big part. So that might actually be in Georgia’s favor, given the almost assured big performance from AJ Green.

Got 12? – That’s an interesting point, the rankings when the teams played, as opposed to current rankings. One of the schools actually lists the opponents’ rankings on their schedule results (FSU, I think, maybe someone else I looked at). It’s always been a point for me that Ga.Tech plays a ranked team, beats them, and then they drop out of the top 10, so the critics then say, “Tech hasn’t played anybody.”

General and UT96,

Saban had the same issue 2 years ago with Jimmy Johns selling coke and a freshman who robbed 2 students at gun point. As soon as Saban found out and confirmed with police that there was either video or witness id both were booted immediately, literally within hours of their arrest. Saban didn’t use the “lets wait for all the information” crap on 2 cut and dried cases. That is how serious stuff like robbery is to be handled when the evidence is that cut and dried and overwhelming.

In Edward’s and RIchardson’s case there were witnesses and the 2 that were identified should have been booted ASAP. The other evidence is so compelling with the car being identified also as well as the woman, the hoodies, the weapons, etc. Cut and dried. What more does Lame Kiffin need to man up and make a decision to boot them?

And don’t give me this crap about innocent before proven guilty which is a widely misunderstood legal term to begin with. If they are really automatically assumed to be so innocent that what the hell are they still doing in jail anyway and why the hell do they have bail bonds to meet? Its like the Ft. Hood shooter. He is termed a ’suspect’ in the media despite the fact that every person in this country knows damn well what he did. Is there anyone who doesn’t believe he didn’t shoot up Fort Hood?

Janzen Jackson’s case is the only one where they should wait to gather info. Even then its hard to believe that he didn’t know that his 2 buddies had hoodies, a freaking rifle, a handgun, and hard to believe Janzen didn’t know these guys had any intention of every doing anything wrong. Regardless on Jackson they should further investigate.

Everybody’s got some bad apples. Its how you handle them on serious crimes that counts and lets people know if you’re running a serious program with discipline and accountability. So far Kiffin and UT are failing that test.

Two programs headed in opposite directions. I love Tech but I am not dillusional thinking we have superior talent to UGA, we just have superior coaching and superior heart. Tony.

Not really sure why so many tech fans are talking smack to UGA fans, and I’m not looking to pick a fight, but keep in mind this is the same tech team that:

1. Let D2 Jax State hang around way to long,
2. Let a bad FSU team hang 42 points on their defense,
3. Let a mediocre/bad MSU team hang 37 points on their defense,
4. Trailed Vandy, 31 – 28 late in the 3rd quarter,
5. Got drilled by Miami which looks to be slightly above average,
6. Celebrated their biggest win in 40 years over a team (VT) that
looks to be slightly above average and has no offense.
7. Needed OT to beat Wake Forest last weekend,
8. Has a defense that’s giving up 30 points a game even with their
offense usually winning the TOP,
9. Has very weak special teams.

The offense is what everyone seems to be hanging their hat on. It’s quirky and effective against most of their opponents which arguably are relatively weak.

So again, where’s the real concern with beating tech and why are tech fans so boastful?

Tim

November 13th, 2009

Dilbert-

Just an FYI…you typically count the rankings of the team when you play them otherwise after you beat them they drop in the rankings. In any event it’s funny to hear people try to compare schedule strength that have absolutely no knowledge of what they are talking about. In the top conferences you beat each other up week end and week out and are bound to be just worn out. Verses someone that plays teams rated in the bottom of the league to have only one big game and now claim that it is unfair that they are left out. Bottomline to have a playoff you need to seperate the entire league into 2 Divisions (about 60 teams in each). Basically one that average over 50k in fans and another that average under that. Then you can have a similar competition in the season and a real playoff.

2) Quarterback throws at least two to the other team every game
3) Had much better team last year and still couldn’t beat the Jackets
4) Offense consists of 1 guy
5) Lost 4 games and should have only won the last one against that tecnical high school in Tennessee
6) First day of game planning is what color to wear
7) Has good punter because he gets so much game time.
8) Sucks

Why are UGAg fans so boastful?

As good as B-back Jonathan Dwyer has been, and he’s been pretty darned impressive lately, this guy — quarterback Josh Nesbitt — might stand in Dwyer’s way in a bid to repeat as ACC Player of the Year. What a great problem for Tech fans to have, huh?

Official Sports Report: November 13, 2009
A Form of Friendly Fire
Dwyer’s bid to repeat as POY has hurdle: Nesbitt
by Matt Winkeljohn, OSR Managing Editor

ATLANTA – Jonathan Dwyer was named a Doak Walker Award semifinalist Thursday, and with quite a bit of football left to be played it is quite conceivable that the junior could win the award for top running back in the nation.

Yet he might not end up MVP of his own team, or even the Georgia Tech offense. That award could go to quarterback Josh Nesbitt.

And you wonder how the Yellow Jackets got to be 9-1, ranked No. 7 in the BCS standings?

Players, players, and players (most key members of the team coming from the 2007 recruiting class). Oh, and an attitude to go along with a distinct offensive personality.

When Dwyer rushed for just 7 yards on five carries in a 33-17 loss at Miami, it was his second sub-par game in as many weeks for the 2008 ACC Player of the Year.

Regardless of the fact that he suffered a shoulder injury, it was not difficult to find pundits who believed that his overall numbers were down in large measure because opponents were doing a better job defending Tech.

Through three games, Dwyer was averaging 56 yards per game.

Some folks didn’t bother looking at the fact he was averaging just 10 carries, let alone consider the injury.

The “Blue printers,” who may be akin to the “Birthers,” out there, were convinced the grid was set against the Jackets; the template was in place, the offense cased.

But Nesbitt and Dwyer have proven otherwise.

The more damage Nesbitt does (he has rushed for 604 yards and a whopping 14 touchdowns in the Jackets’ seven-game winning streak), the more space Dwyer finds in turn as defenses have to guess which player to set keys upon.

Dwyer has rushed for career-high yardage in back-to-back games, going for 189 last Saturday against Wake Forest, and 186 in a win at Vanderbilt before that. In the past three games, he’s rushed for 500 yards and four touchdowns. He now has 1,093 rushing yards for the season, 11th-most in Tech history.

Yeah, defenses have figured out Dwyer and the Jackets.

With two more touchdowns (he has 31 in his career); Dwyer will tie Joe Burns for second-most in Tech history. Burns scored 34 between 1998-’01.
Robert Lavette scored 46 between ‘81-’84.

Dwyer’s 2,924 career rushing yards are sixth-most in history, and he’s just a junior.

Never mind the internet chatter about him or other junior Jackets possibly turning pro next spring; we’ll get to that another day.

Imagine what he’s doing, 1,093 yards, nine touchdowns, and he’s still perhaps well behind his own teammate in the race of ACC Player of the Year.

Nesbitt’s 817 rushing yards are the most every by a Tech quarterback. His 1,849 career rushing yards are most ever by a Jacket signal caller. He’s a junior, too, and didn’t play much as a freshman.

Quarterbacks get the most attention, as recent Heisman Trophy results clearly indicate, and even though Nesbitt has some pedestrian passing numbers in terms of yardage (1,223) and touchdowns (six), and he’s completed a very modest 45.2 percent of his passes.

One of his predecessors, Reggie Ball, caught untold grief for completions percentages like that even though he was noted more for running the ball, too.

One of the key differences between Nesbitt and Ball, though, not to mention Dwyer, is the prevalence of signature plays.

Nesbitt not only converted the do-or-die fourth down in overtime last Saturday, but scored the game winner after that. Against Florida State, he not only stripped an FSU defender after a turnover to steal the ball back for the Jackets, but moments later scored the clinching touchdown (one of three on the day).

He already has nearly 400 more career rushing yards than Ball had, and his 22 rushing touchdowns are twice Ball’s career total and easily a school record for quarterbacks.

Nesbitt has accounted for 12 touchdowns this season (15 rushing, six passing), and even though Dwyer has averaged 19.9 carries in the seven-game winning streak, Nesbitt’s been the workhorse.

He’s had games of 32, 22, 27, 23, 21, 16 and 21 carries in the winning streak.

His yards-per-completion (23.5) is almost unheard of 10 games into a season, and his per-attempt average (10.6) would cause most NFL coordinators to salivate.

And you wonder why the Jackets are 9-1, and ranked No. 7? Well, you probably don’t, but you may know someone who does. Tell ‘em.

Matt

Tide Rising : Each case must be determined on it’s own merits. The Alabama incident you referenced may have been cut and dried due to witness accounts, etc. I don’t know all those details because I didn’t study them the same way most people aren’t studying the Tennessee details. Haven’t read about witnessess in Knoxville, only victims and idiots and when that’s what you have to go on, it takes a little more time to gather up the facts. Personally, I feel 99.99% sure Richardson and Edwards will be gone. If Jackson gets a Last Chance from Kiffin, it’ll be based on the actions each individual had in the incident. Even if his story is truthful and plays out he was a victim of circumstances, I feel Kiffin should consider suspending him for the rest of the year, plus he’ll have a lot to apologize for.

For CLK not to rush a judgement that’s sure to come isn’t an indictment on his discipline measures and shouldn’t cause anyone to lose sleep, except the trio involved. He won’t sacrifice the program for a couple of wayward players. Did you see my UTUBE link on pg 1…? Har-de-Har…

And call me when you have 12 LEGITIMATE NC’s.

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.
The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 – 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 – Current.
1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!
1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!
1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!
1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!
1961 National Championship- Finally a legitimate NC. .
1964 National Championship- While the AP did award the NC to Bama (10-1-0), Arkansas had the better record, 11-0. Alabama played Texas in their bowl and LOST. The AP final poll was before the bowl.
1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.
1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.
1978 National Championship- AP gives this to Alabama(11-1-0) even though USC (12-1-0) had the better record Guess who Alabama lost to that year? USC!!!!!!!!!. UPI gave the NC to USC.
1979 National Championship- Their second legitimate NC. Their first Unanimous NC.
1992 National Championship- Their third legitimate NC. Their second Unanimous NC.
You can see why people ridicule Bama fans when they talk about 12 NCs. The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren’t consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost. Using Alabama logic, Auburn could claim four national championships. But when Bammers brag they like to say they have twelve and Auburn has one. How silly. The NCAA recognizes 6 NCs for Bama and there are only two NCs that Bama has unanimously.

And yes, this is a cut and paste moron. Brought out every time a mullet head wants to brag on their 12 NC’s.

Tech could be in trouble with Duke’s passing game so watch out. One reason that Tech’s D is so much better in the 2nd hald is the time of possesion domination by the offense. Headline:
Georgia Loses vs. Auburn.

After pulling the entire offensive line, the entire defensive backfield, Joe Cox and Orson Charles from the game due to penalties, CMR could finally put his finger on what happend during the bulldogs loss to Auburn on Saturday night in front of a nationally televised audience.

Post game interview:

Chuck Dowdle: Coach, not the best of efforts today, a tough loss with a lot of penalties.

CMR: “We had a great game plan, but gosh darn it, those guys kept making penalties and I yanked them out. Heck, I thought getting pulled out of the game would make the reserves play better and teach them to not make the same mistakes as the starters – but these guys just will not learn – so I had to yank all the redshirts off and stick them in, and gosh darn it, they still made more penalties. We were fixing to run out of players, so I just kept the redshirts in and by the end of the fourth quarter I thought we were moving the ball pretty well…after all, Logan Grey’s taking a knee was the biggest rushing gain we had the entire second half. We hated to bench Washawn, but gosh darn it, we caught him missing a block on film last week and well, we are going to have to get tough with these guys when they dont execute. Hopefully these guys will learn their lesson and start executing better. I hate it for the UGA fans, but these players have got to learn. If it takes us going 0-12 next year, I’m willing to do it because these players have got to learn to play the way we want them to. We are going to give the team 3 days off next week so they can get over their feelings being hurt, and then we are going to get ready for Kentucky. Chuck, I hate to cut you short, but I’ve got to go do another Ford commercial before I speak in that church on sunday.”

Louisiana-Lafayette looms large on Georgia’s schedule next year. Sept. 4th, mark it down. The Rajin’ Cajuns are 4-4 this year losing only to LSU, Nebraska and 2 Florida teams not named UF or FSU. And, they beat Kansas State!

Fortunately the “real opponent” opener was a one-year mistake. But Damon Evans screwed up big time and is sending the team west again, this time to play Colorado. I image altitude sickness or a commie referee plot are the only way Georgia can lose that one in the People’s Republic of Boulder.

Who knows, maybe I’ll get to play against Duke while I’m at Notre Dame.
Thanks for being my stepping stone. Good luck to the next coach who will stay 4 years or less. My pick would be Bobby Johnson. He is used to coaching in his own stadium that is covered up with fans from the other in-State school.

“RE: Coach Johnson”

Interesting news coming from a Man that address the question on Paul Johnson’s Radio show Wednesday, that he has NO intention of leaving Georgia Tech for any school. He took a pay cut from Navy to come to Georgia Tech. Johnson also turn down a large amount of money from another Big School last year. A direct quote from Paul Johnson @ Fox Sport Grill Wednesday Nite, “I think the job for Norte Dame would fit somebody like the Coach from Cincinnati. I think he’s a good Irish Cathlotic as well. I’m not going anywhere for along time to come.”

The Tech / Uga series (59-39-5) basically 60-40, is really not that one sided in the grand scheme. Only seperated by 10 games that went uga’s way. That’s based on 100+ games. The two 7 game uga streaks (90’s and 00’s), really hurt Tech’s position in this “Clean Old Fashioned Hate” series. But do take note….when Tech has had good coaching throughout this series, they seem to have the “edge” in the games played. Now that CPJ has cemented his feet at The Flats for a while, look for this series to go 60-40 the other way. THWG ….By the way I’ve posted this before and had to explain to some idiot that thought uga was 22 “games” ahead in the series. Unbelievable.

These officials are a joke. The big east just made a huge bs call for a uc td. How about this new rule for officiating. Just let the announcers make the damn call. They were shocked at the call and the announcers in some of the sec games were the same way. So just let the announcers make the call on the field. It’s so damn obvious that they are making these calls for certain teams because of the $$$ involved.

Duke, They got beat by Richmond to start off, they get smoked by Kansas, and they just lost to UNC. Wow, what a powerful statement! If the Jackets don’t take care of business and blow these guys out, then we don’t deserve to play for any championship. The defense needs to grow some and play for 60 minutes, giving their offense a break! I’m tired of hearing how the defense is getting better because of what they do in the second half of a football game. Give me a break! B4 anybody questions my allegiance to this team and program, forget it, I have been a loyal fan for all my life. I am not a blind loyalist that makes excuses for this team. If the defense comes to play then we should win, and we should win BIG!

Well Frank, as I see it, both schools had “real men” in the war. However, the teams did come up with the players…….and both schools agreed to play. Clint Castleberry for Tech made a huge debut his freshman year, chose to join the war effort and gave his life…….as did thousands of others around our country, “God Bless Them All !”. Very lame arguement. By the way NCAA recognizes the games played in both ww’s.

After turning on the GT/Duke game, it took me about 10 seconds to realize how completely ignorant are the ACC fans who run down the SEC. GT is ajoke being ranked #7, and ESPN agrees: a female play-by-play announcer for the 2nd straight week! Too damn funny!

And Duke’s crowd makes Vandy look like Oh. St. in comparison. And GT’s D is pathetic. After being down 10-0 GT will still probably win because Duke can’t tackle.

Coach O

I enjoyed the games yesterday. There was some good football played. I just have this one complaint to get off my chest…

Why, oh why can’t the networks hire some announcers that just announce the damn game and leave the editorializing to the goofy bobble-heads on the cable news networks? These doofuses actually think that we sports fans are tuning in to hear them wax eloquent upon the esoteric trivia of the collegiate football ‘lifestyle’. Uhhh, NO… I don’t care how much ESPN and CBS can afford to over-pay you windbags — you ARE NOT the “stars of the show”.

The kids down on the field playing the game are the reason that we tune in — so how about restraining yourself to commenting on what’s happening down there on the field of play and keep your opinions about the coaches, the officials, the fans and the local restaurants to yourselves? I don’t really give a flying flock what you think. I just want to watch the dadgum game, and with every passing year you Bozos up there in the booth make it harder and harder to enjoy doing that.

If you guys want to be TV Stars, then get yourselves a gig on a “Reality TV” show. I’d like to hear the crowd noise and the sounds of the stadium in sync with the video while I watch a game, and I don’t mind some insightful commentary along with that. But lately, I find myself having to turn the sound off just to get some relief.

Just stick to the facts and leave your opinions out of it. Please? Is that too much to ask? If there is a questionable play called or a close call on a flag, just say that you find that particular call questionable and let it go at that. I don’t care to hear which play you would have called if YOU were coaching. I don’t need to hear you challenge the referees. They’re down on the field with the REAL stars of the show and you’re way up in the booth looking at the same video that WE’RE looking at. Opinions are like a$$holes — everybody’s got one.

And college football announcers these days are like opinions…
