Georgia Tech wraps up the division at Duke

Last week was a tough one because I believed Duke could beat North Carolina, Oklahoma could beat Nebraska, Notre Dame could beat Navy (what was I thinking there?) and Penn State could beat Ohio State.

That puts us at 73-27 for the season. We’ll try to do better this week as we get on the Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Georgia Tech at Duke: Georgia Tech should be able to go up to Wallace Wade Stadium and take care of business and clinch the ACC Coastal. The Duke defense is banged up and I don’t see the Blue Devils stopping the Jackets at any point in this game. But the Yellow Jackets could stop themselves. If Tech lays the ball on the ground, this one could get a little scary. Georgia Tech 38, Duke 24.

2. Auburn at Georgia: Georgia gets back to basics behind running back Washaun Ealey, who looks more and more like the answer at tailback. The Bulldogs control the ball and limit the possessions of the Auburn offense. If Georgia can’t run the ball against the SEC’s No. 10 rushing defense, then the Bulldogs are in big trouble. Georgia 24, Auburn 17.

3. Alabama at Mississippi State: Mississippi State played LSU and Florida to the wire at home and should have some confidence as the nation’s No. 2 team comes to Starkville. Alabama is coming off a tough, physical game against LSU and might be a little flat.  Still, Alabama’s defense is just too good and forces Mississippi State into three or more turnovers. Alabama 28, Mississippi State 9.

4. Florida at South Carolina: Steve Spurrier says he’s going to start calling the ball plays again and so the Gamecocks might keep this close for a while. But Florida’s defense is going to light up Stephen Garcia. Don’t be surprised if the Gators get at least three interceptions. Florida wins ugly (again) and moves to 10-0. Florida 28, South Carolina 17.

5. Tennessee at Ole Miss: It’s hard to say what effect, if any, Thursday’s arrests will have on team. These things either bring a team closer together or causes it to splinter. The timing could not be worse. I think Tennessee still wins because Monte Kiffin’s defense is so good and will continue to frustrate Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead.  It also helps that the light has finally come on for Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton. Tennessee 17, Ole Miss 14.

6. Florida State at Wake Forest: The Seminoles (4-5) will be without quarterback Christian Ponder, who suffered a separated shoulder in last week’s loss to Clemson and is out for the rest of the season. Redshirt freshman E.J. Manuel will get this first career start against the Deacons, who have beaten Florida State three straight times. Make it four.  Of Wake Forest’s six losses, five have been by three points or less. The Deacons are due to win a close game. Wake Forest 28, Florida State 27.

7. Utah at TCU: TCU (9-0) is ranked No. 4 in the BCS and needs to keep winning to stay in the national championship discussion. TCU has a veteran quarterback in Andy Dalton, who has led the Horned Frogs to over 500 yards in their last two games. Utah will start a true freshman quarterback in Jordan Wynn. TCU has the nation’s No. 3 defense. The numbers don’t add up for Utah. TCU 24, Utah 14.

8. Iowa at Ohio State: Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was lost for the season in last week’s 17-10 loss to Northwestern. So freshman James Vandenberg will get his first career start before 105,000 at Ohio State’s famed Horseshoe. Win the game and Iowa goes to the Rose Bowl. Ohio State (8-2) must beat Iowa and Michigan to go to Pasadena. Iowa is very good on defense but I have go with the Buckeyes. Ohio State 17, Iowa 13.

9. Notre Dame at Pittsburgh: Notre Dame lost to Navy last week for the second time in three years. Charlie Weis says it’s not about him, it’s about Pittsburgh. Actually, Charlie, it’s all about you at this point. Notre Dame falls to 6-4 and speculation begins. Yes, Urban Meyer, that will include you. Pittsburgh 31, Notre Dame 21.

10. Stanford at Southern California: Stanford RB Toby Gerhart just plowed through Oregon last week for a school record 223 yards and three touchdowns. Remember that this is the USC defense that gave up 394 yards rushing to Oregon on Oct. 31. It is tempting to pick Stanford but USC knows it has to keep winning to keep its hopes alive for a BCS bowl. Southern California 28, Stanford 21.

Delbert.

Kind of reminds me of the 1984 BYU team with the run instead of the pass, but no defense. They just outscored teams.

Tech could be in trouble with Duke’s passing game so watch out. One reason that Tech’s D is so much better in the 2nd hald is the time of possesion domination by the offense. Hopefully that will continue. Nesbitt must stay healthy. If we beat Duke and go to the ACC Champs we will face one mad Clemson team. They are convinced that they got cheated out of the September game. NC State could do Tech a big favor by reating Clemson.

HBTD – I had to go look that up. This is a good link: http://www.byucougars.com/football/history/honors.jsp

I loved one of the comments…”Controversy was abundant as many of the so-called experts such as NBC announcer Bryant Gumbell and Oklahoma head coach Barry Switzer, accused BYU of playing a “Bo-Diddley Tech” schedule.”

Awwwwwh Kipp. Don’t be so defensive. You should feel good about your team even if your schedule is slightly less than what Lowndes county has played this year.

I hate to think how bad it’s gonna be for you if somehow my young pups (7th or 8th in SEC this year) can beat the powerful Jackette on the 28th.

‘84 BYU was there ever a more overrated champ?

They beat a Michigan team who was 6-4 before entering the game in the Holiday Bowl by 1 TD to win the national title.

Atleast Utah beat a solid Bama team.

tech losers now say they “own” us, and are #1 in the state. AFTER ONE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me, are they all that ____ing clueless. We’ll see how the recruiting and future go, as this is a short term aggravation Dawg Fans. But my goodness, they are so clueless and obnoxious that they can be a bit annoying can’t they??!! Speaking of bandwagons, it will be less full, and they will be much more quiet when order is restored to this one-sided “rivalry.” We Own This State and Always Will, despite a few blips on the radar every 10 years or so. I have no idea how we’re going to beat Auburn. Sure, their defense is bad too but we’ll make it easy for them with mindless turnovers and penalties that make me want to gouge my own eyeballs out. And our defense will be utterly impotent against their offense. I think a drunk midget could throw for 200 against us. We are BAD Tony. There is no life in this team. Did you see the quotes about no more goals left? Who in the hell says something like that? And that was from one of our “leaders.” That’s a total homer pick bro.

Headline:
Georgia Loses vs. Auburn.

After pulling the entire offensive line, the entire defensive backfield, Joe Cox and Orson Charles from the game due to penalties, CMR could finally put his finger on what happend during the bulldogs loss to Auburn on Saturday night in front of a nationally televised audience.

Post game interview:

Chuck Dowdle: Coach, not the best of efforts today, a tough loss with a lot of penalties.

CMR: “We had a great game plan, but gosh darn it, those guys kept making penalties and I yanked them out. Heck, I thought getting pulled out of the game would make the reserves play better and teach them to not make the same mistakes as the starters – but these guys just will not learn – so I had to yank all the redshirts off and stick them in, and gosh darn it, they still made more penalties. We were fixing to run out of players, so I just kept the redshirts in and by the end of the fourth quarter I thought we were moving the ball pretty well…after all, Logan Grey’s taking a knee was the biggest rushing gain we had the entire second half. We hated to bench Washawn, but gosh darn it, we caught him missing a block on film last week and well, we are going to have to get tough with these guys when they dont execute. Hopefully these guys will learn their lesson and start executing better. I hate it for the UGA fans, but these players have got to learn. If it takes us going 0-12 next year, I’m willing to do it because these players have got to learn to play the way we want them to. We are going to give the team 3 days off next week so they can get over their feelings being hurt, and then we are going to get ready for Kentucky. Chuck, I hate to cut you short, but I’ve got to go do another Ford commercial before I speak in that church on sunday.”

Chuck Dowdle: Thanks Coach, next up we’ll talk to Willie Martinez, who proved once again that he is one of the greatest minds in defensive footbal, as the Dawgs held the tigers to under 1,000 yards total offense while playing with a defense made up entirely of scout team players.

Louisiana-Lafayette looms large on Georgia’s schedule next year. Sept. 4th, mark it down. The Rajin’ Cajuns are 4-4 this year losing only to LSU, Nebraska and 2 Florida teams not named UF or FSU. And, they beat Kansas State!

Fortunately the “real opponent” opener was a one-year mistake. But Damon Evans screwed up big time and is sending the team west again, this time to play Colorado. I image altitude sickness or a commie referee plot are the only way Georgia can lose that one in the People’s Republic of Boulder.

I’m looking forward to coaching my last game against this football powerhouse, Duke.
I wish I could coach in the SEC, where I would’t have to face this type of talent.
Who knows, maybe I’ll get to play against Duke while I’m at Notre Dame.
Thanks for being my stepping stone. Good luck to the next coach who will stay 4 years or less. My pick would be Bobby Johnson. He is used to coaching in his own stadium that is covered up with fans from the other in-State school.

“RE: Coach Johnson”

Interesting news coming from a Man that address the question on Paul Johnson’s Radio show Wednesday, that he has NO intention of leaving Georgia Tech for any school. He took a pay cut from Navy to come to Georgia Tech. Johnson also turn down a large amount of money from another Big School last year. A direct quote from Paul Johnson @ Fox Sport Grill Wednesday Nite, “I think the job for Norte Dame would fit somebody like the Coach from Cincinnati. I think he’s a good Irish Cathlotic as well. I’m not going anywhere for along time to come.”

Solid Gold Dancer

The Tech / Uga series (59-39-5) basically 60-40, is really not that one sided in the grand scheme. Only seperated by 10 games that went uga’s way. That’s based on 100+ games. The two 7 game uga streaks (90’s and 00’s), really hurt Tech’s position in this “Clean Old Fashioned Hate” series. But do take note….when Tech has had good coaching throughout this series, they seem to have the “edge” in the games played. Now that CPJ has cemented his feet at The Flats for a while, look for this series to go 60-40 the other way. THWG ….By the way I’ve posted this before and had to explain to some idiot that thought uga was 22 “games” ahead in the series. Unbelievable.

These officials are a joke. The big east just made a huge bs call for a uc td. How about this new rule for officiating. Just let the announcers make the damn call. They were shocked at the call and the announcers in some of the sec games were the same way. So just let the announcers make the call on the field. It’s so damn obvious that they are making these calls for certain teams because of the $$$ involved.
