Projecting the BCS bowls

We’re getting down to crunch time, so let’s a take minute to project the five BCS bowls and explain why the matchups will occur.

Just remember that the two bowls that lose their designated conference champs to the BCS title game go to the head of the line when it comes time to pick. The bowl that loses the No. 1 team picks first. The bowl that loses the No. 2 team picks second.

Then remaining conference champs are placed in their designated bowls: Big Ten/Pac-10 to Rose; Big 12 to Fiesta, SEC to Sugar, ACC to Orange.

Then the remaining slots in the games are filled with this order of selection: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.

So here we go. If you disagree, please tell me why,.

BCS CHAMPIONSHIP, Jan. 7, 2010

Matchup: Alabama vs. Texas

How it happened: Florida and Alabama are locked into the SEC championship game on Dec. 5. They could be ranked 1-2. As was the case a year ago, the winner goes to the big game.  With Baylor, Kansas and Texas A&M left, Texas should cruise to the Big 12 championship game and roll over the North Division champ.

ORANGE BOWL, Jan. 5, 2010

Matchup: Georgia Tech vs. Iowa

How it happened: Georgia Tech beats Duke on Saturday to clinch the ACC Coastal championship and then wins a rematch with Clemson in the ACC title game. After the automatic slots are filled in the BCS, the Orange Bowl will get the first pick. It will take Iowa at 10-2 because those Hawkeyes love to travel South in the winter.

FIESTA BOWL, Jan. 4, 2010

Matchup: USC vs. TCU

How it happened: Because it lost Big 12 champ Texas, the No. 2 team, to the national championship game, the Fiesta gets its pick of teams after the Sugar. Since there is no suitable replacement from the Big 12, the Fiesta takes USC, which will be 10-2 and ranked in the Top 10 if it wins its final three games with Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona. After the Orange takes Iowa, the Fiesta’s choices will be down to Cincinnati, TCU, Boise State or another two-loss conference runner-up. It will take TCU, which could be ranked as high as No. 3.

SUGAR BOWL, Jan. 1, 2010

Matchup: Florida vs. Cincinnati

How it happened: Because the Sugar’s designated champion (SEC) was ranked No. 1, the Sugar gets first pick among all the bowls after the BCS title game. The Sugar fills with Florida, the SEC runner-up. The Sugar will then pick last in the second rotation and will be left with Cincinnati, which gets an automatic bid as the Big East champ.

ROSE BOWL, Jan. 1, 2010

Matchup: Ohio State vs. Oregon

How it happened: Ohio State (8-2) beats Iowa this week and Michigan next week to win the Big Ten championship. Oregon (7-2), which has only one loss in the Pac-10, recovers from its loss to Stanford and beats Arizona State, Arizona, and Oregon State to win the conference.

Yellow Fuzz…. easy now. Remember you have carpel tunnel. There’s no way you can be fighting on the 28th. Especially after your world of warcraft binge over the Thanksgiving holiday. Plus, we all know if you start drinking, it’s 4 beers and you are done for.

Here is how it will go down:

BCS game – Florida vs Texas – Florida wins in another SEC champ route – Texas can not stop a good ground game (ditto if Alabama happens to play Texas)

Sugar Bowl – Alabama vs TCU – Saban will not let Alabama get surprised/embarrassed twice – Tide wins

Orange Bowl – GT vs Boise State – GT wins in a blue carpet revenge game for all the crap blue carpet bowls we’ve had to endure in freakin Boise, Idaho.

Rose Bowl – Who cares! – PAC 10 champ will kill Big 10 champ (again)

Fiesta Bowl – USC vs Pitt (Pitt will be Cincy)

Actually who cares about any of the bowl games. There is only one more game that matters and that game will be played on November 28th at BDS where we will crush UGA and start a new winning streak and continue our dominance over a declining program in UGA

THWG! 45-42 only the beginning!

I wasn’t trying to pick a fight. I just thought your first post was made in jest. I apparently was wrong.

Could you please explain how the refs cost us each of our four losses? If I’m missing something, then please enlighten me.

help, I live in GA:

Good post.
Alabama got their fannies handed to them in last year’s Sugar Bowl because they didn’t want to be playing the Utes.
After a hard fought SECCG, Utah was anticlimactic.
HOW are UF playing Cinci or the Trojans playing TCU any different?

I know they put the #5 sec team in there so that should show you tools what they think about the acc. i’m talking Richt’s era, but ok you got me on our one trip to music city. emphasis on the one trip.

I would love for GT to make it to the Orange Bowl & would love to play Iowa. As we have discussed before, the ACC has a perception problem, which they have earned, and winning out over a Big 10 team will help the ACC get by that perception. And, losing to Iowa would only reinforce & extend that perception.

Georgia Tech is in the same status as it was in 1990, ecept for one loss versus a tie. It started the year not ranked and has moved up with each win. With three weeks left somebody ahead of it is going to lose. If tech wins out which it has a good shot to do then it will be there if not then it does not deserve to be in the hunt.

That’s going to be a lot of fun watching UGA get the worst beatdown of their miserable, wretched lives. I hope the parole officers will let all the UGA players travel to Atlanta to make a contest out of it. But we don’t need one of their illiterate players driving the bus. They might miss a sign and end up in Jacksonville again. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

HEY BAMA STAN AND ALL OF THE RAMA, JAMA, FANS!!!!

Here is something else that the University of Alabama has to go along with all of those championships.

Let’s all take a trip down memory lane shall we and review a quote made buy the N.C.A.A. (So when Alabama fans start bragging on those championships, you will be informed on how all those championships were truly won.)

“This institution has a very contrasting different view of N.C.A.A. rules than that of other N.C.A.A. member intuitions follow. This is very evident and obvious regarding the football program. The coaching staff along with the athletic department acts as if the rules apply to everyone else. The University of Alabama football program has been investigated and/or put on probation more times than any other N.C.A.A. instuition school in the modern era. This is the reason why the University of Alabama is considered for good reason and with out any hesitation based on pass actions that they will be labeled as a repeat and consistence violator of N.C.A.A. rules from this day forward.”
Statement made buy the N.C.A.A. after Alabama had been put on probation once again.

So when the Alabama fans brag “Got 12”.One can replay back “On probation agin” Or my personal favorite “Hey I heard the N.C.A.A. rule committee is in Tuscaloosa this week.”

Hey Tony! What do you think about this secnario. Georgia beats Tech. Tech wins the ACC championship. The lower end of the SEC beats the top of the ACC. Do you think Tech fans can take it. Tech has never been able to beat Georgia in the years it has won the SEC.

Interesting picks, Tony. Would love to see GT play in Orange against Cincy but not sure Tech will beat Clemson. Should be a great game, though.

Unlike many of my fellow dawg bloggers, I choose not to point fingers or engage in sophomoric insults. I do believe, however, that UGA will play Tech close and tough this year, though I’m not sure we win. CPJ knows how to make adjustments at halftime; Willie doesn’t. End of story.

UF rolls over the Tide en route to yet another NC. The real question is: now that Urban has 3 under his belt and Tebow is leaving, does he take the Notre Dame job that he has coveted for so long?. He has nothing else to prove at UF or in the SEC. Just a thought.

yea, i flipped to your game when lsu bama was on break. no incorrect chop block calls. the refs are just trying to save your players before they try to do that in the nfl. that kind of stuff will get your eyes ripped out, not just gouged, in the nfl. no millionaire defensive lineman is going to take that stuff. but then again, none of your players will actually see the field in the nfl, so I guess its ok. actually wanted you guys to win so we could completely ruin your season

Bama/Fla. if Bama gets by the rest of the schedule and Fla. gets by South Carolina the SEC Championship Game will become the National Championship Game. Both are great teams and the winner will be decided by who wants it the most. Bama is coming off a hard fought LSU game and a letdown is inevitable. Fla. could go down to South Carolina. Watch for Fla. weaknesses to be exploited by South Carolina and the Evil Visor could prevail. Bama’s pass defense is weak which would give Tebow an advantage, but I haven’t seen a quarterback yet that can throw from the prone position.

One comment about all of the other bowls that fans say are boring. These bowls usually provide charities with money to support good causes. In addition, they are rewards for teams/players at the end of a grueling season so don’t be too harsh on the other bowls. They’re not all bad.

To both of you: just for once, try not to respond with such quick triggers to the provocations of each other. You both look like childish and impish little fools — especially UGA fans whose season is officially a disaster and over. Just shut up and go hibernate until Spring.

I don’t think CPJ will be leaving Tech anytime soon. The way GT boosted his pay last year, I’d think they’d sooner make him the highest paid coach twice over – I’m sure the pocket books are deep enough. Coaching a revived Tech program, in the shadow of Dodd and Heisman, playing for a NC every other year is a possibility with CPJ at Tech, and carries a prestige as good as coaching anywhere else in college football.
