Projecting the BCS bowls

We’re getting down to crunch time, so let’s a take minute to project the five BCS bowls and explain why the matchups will occur.

Just remember that the two bowls that lose their designated conference champs to the BCS title game go to the head of the line when it comes time to pick. The bowl that loses the No. 1 team picks first. The bowl that loses the No. 2 team picks second.

Then remaining conference champs are placed in their designated bowls: Big Ten/Pac-10 to Rose; Big 12 to Fiesta, SEC to Sugar, ACC to Orange.

Then the remaining slots in the games are filled with this order of selection: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.

So here we go. If you disagree, please tell me why,.

BCS CHAMPIONSHIP, Jan. 7, 2010

Matchup: Alabama vs. Texas

How it happened: Florida and Alabama are locked into the SEC championship game on Dec. 5. They could be ranked 1-2. As was the case a year ago, the winner goes to the big game.  With Baylor, Kansas and Texas A&M left, Texas should cruise to the Big 12 championship game and roll over the North Division champ.

ORANGE BOWL, Jan. 5, 2010

Matchup: Georgia Tech vs. Iowa

How it happened: Georgia Tech beats Duke on Saturday to clinch the ACC Coastal championship and then wins a rematch with Clemson in the ACC title game. After the automatic slots are filled in the BCS, the Orange Bowl will get the first pick. It will take Iowa at 10-2 because those Hawkeyes love to travel South in the winter.

FIESTA BOWL, Jan. 4, 2010

Matchup: USC vs. TCU

How it happened: Because it lost Big 12 champ Texas, the No. 2 team, to the national championship game, the Fiesta gets its pick of teams after the Sugar. Since there is no suitable replacement from the Big 12, the Fiesta takes USC, which will be 10-2 and ranked in the Top 10 if it wins its final three games with Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona. After the Orange takes Iowa, the Fiesta’s choices will be down to Cincinnati, TCU, Boise State or another two-loss conference runner-up. It will take TCU, which could be ranked as high as No. 3.

SUGAR BOWL, Jan. 1, 2010

Matchup: Florida vs. Cincinnati

How it happened: Because the Sugar’s designated champion (SEC) was ranked No. 1, the Sugar gets first pick among all the bowls after the BCS title game. The Sugar fills with Florida, the SEC runner-up. The Sugar will then pick last in the second rotation and will be left with Cincinnati, which gets an automatic bid as the Big East champ.

ROSE BOWL, Jan. 1, 2010

Matchup: Ohio State vs. Oregon

How it happened: Ohio State (8-2) beats Iowa this week and Michigan next week to win the Big Ten championship. Oregon (7-2), which has only one loss in the Pac-10, recovers from its loss to Stanford and beats Arizona State, Arizona, and Oregon State to win the conference.

I can’t wait to see these Georgia Yechies get so excited only to lose in their bowl game once again. Geez. No wonder Coach Paul Gobbler left Navy before their bowl game.

I had florida vs Texas from day one and I’m not changing my mind.

Tech will lose another game, either to us or to Clemson. Maybe both but not likely.

Iowa will not make it because they will get blitzed Saturday and drop like a stone.

USC will not win out. don’t be surprised if Arizona wins the Pac 10.

we are in total agreement. I was encouraged by the way Vandy was able to pressure Tebow. Bama should be able to bring pressure throughout the game because of their depth.

Hopefully, we’ll all get to watch a football classic. I think both teams have the talent to pull that off.

Tony, you’re not gonna put some $$ on Bama are you. It’s crazy to bet against Urban Myer. He is the best big-game coach around. The bigger the game, the better he has the Gators playing. And yes, I am jealous…..

Using your logic, then up until this year you should have never, ever, posted on a blog that discussed BCS bowl games.

We should make fun of everyone’s bowl appearances.. why? Look at this past decades success at in bowl-games!

2008 Chick-fil-A LSU 38, Georgia Tech 3
2007 Humanitarian Fresno State 40, Georgia Tech 28
2006 Gator West Virginia 38, Georgia Tech 35
2005 Emerald Utah 38, Georgia Tech 10
2004 Champs Sports Georgia Tech 51, Syracuse 14
2003 Humanitarian Georgia Tech 52, Tulsa 10
2002 Silicon Valley Fresno State 30, Georgia Tech 21
2001 Seattle Georgia Tech 24, Stanford 14
2000 Peach LSU 28, Georgia Tech 14

I mean look this decade we beat Tulsa, Syracuse and Stanford. Also, we only lost to Fresno State twice!

I love college football but this gives me a headache. Every year. Can we please get a 16 team playoff?? They say the system is working? This is supposed to be preserving tradition? Florida vs. Cincinnati? USC vs TCU? Cmon. Wake me up when there is a playoff.

Theres a lot of talk on this blog from the pups, who at the moment aren’t even bowl eligible. You guys just concentrate on getting past mighty KY so you can even make it to a bowl game, b/c the chances of beating Auburn and Tech aren’t looking so good for you guys right now.

I got a ticket to the Tech- UGA game in Athens last year for $20, and the stadium was pretty empty. That doesn’t matter though. UGA will always have more fans because they have more alumni, and more students. We don’t need anyone to jump on the Tech bandwagon.

Maddog, actually, three years ago GT was one win away from a BCS game. Check your facts befor you post.

Before the few idiots on here say it, I will, I know that UGA has more fans, has a bigger stadium, has been to more BCS games than GT since GT has not been to any BCS games yet, GT has a high school offense, you think CPJ is going to leave GT, CPJ cannot recruit for his offense, GT is only winning because of Gailey’s recruits, etc. etc. Hope I did not make any grammar mistakes.

Please you don’t have to say it again.

I have seen Bama and Florida both in person. I give the edge to the Gators because of Tebow. Otherwise they are very eveningly matched and this will be a very interesting game.

Does anyone know what the early betting line is on this game? I would say the Gators by 3.

I agree with you about Iowa Tony. They will bring alot more fans than the Bearcats.

That said there are some games still left and I doubt if all or even most of these predicted matchups actually occur.

Yea, I’d like Bama to win too. But Tebow will step up, and be the difference maker again in the 4th quarter while Bama defense is tired.

The way I see it, Bama will be hard to beat after Tebow is gone. Last year and this year are the climbing years for Bama. With the way Bama is recruiting, championships will come in bunches in the coming years.

I agree with you in that the refs in fact hate georgia so much that they jeopardize their personal careers by making sure you lost 4 games this year because they too are sick and tired of hearing from the obnoxious and whiney dog nation. 1) Booing the refs. Not the players. Just like you didn’t boo AJ Green in the LSU game.

2) You’ve gone to a worse bowl game than the peach bowl this decade – See Music City Bowl; Oahu Bowl.

3) Peach bowl is not the best bowl game we’ve been to this decade. See Gator Bowl.

4) 45-42 is a whooping when its 28-12 the other way at halftime. Maybe we should stick with the second half was a blow out (33-14). That better?

Clearly you are the king of observation.
