Will Tebow break Herschel’s TD record in JAX?

Five burning questions as we head into the weekend:

1. Will Tim Tebow break Herschel Walker’s touchdown record against Georgia?  Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, scored 49 rushing touchdowns in his three seasons at Georgia. Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, has 48 rushing touchdowns in about 3 ½ seasons at Florida. You have to figure that Tebow will break Walker’s record in Saturday’s game in Jacksonville. That’s a tremendous accomplishment for a quarterback, but it is worth noting that Walker scored five touchdowns in three Sugar Bowl appearances (1980-82). Those touchdowns are not included in Walker’s records because only recently did the NCAA start counting post-season statistics in career totals.

2. What will Lane Kiffin do if he gets a bad call against South Carolina? The Tennessee coach was reprimanded for the second time this year by the SEC after complaining about the officiating in the Alabama-Tennessee game. He complained that his team was called for eight penalties while Alabama was only flagged once, which is correct. He complained that Alabama should have been flagged for a penalty when Terrence Cody ripped off his helmet after blocking a Volunteer field goal. That’s debatable. After what happened in the Georgia-LSU game, there is no way that call was going to be made. He complained that Tennessee should have gotten one more chance at the field goal to win the game. On that one he was wrong. The rule is clear. Even if a penalty had been called, Alabama would have retained possession.

But what happens if Kiffin gets a bad call in Saturday’s game with South Carolina? A piece of advice to the young Tennessee coach: Complain privately, not publicly. You have two strikes. If the SEC office has to deliver a third reprimand it will not be pretty.

3. How many times will Dexter McCluster touch the ball against Auburn? It looks like Ole Miss has found the answer to its struggling offense: Get the ball to No. 22, Dexter McCluster. Against Arkansas McCluster had 22 rushes for 123 yards and caught seven passes for 137 yards. If you’re keeping score at home he touched the ball 29 times for 260 yards. I’m not real good at math but I can tell you that’s almost nine yards for every time he touched the ball. Look for a bunch of McCluster in Saturday’s game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

4. What’s the over/under on Georgia Tech’s time of possession against Vanderbilt? Georgia Tech leads the nation in time of possession, averaging 34:50 per game. Vanderbilt, conversely, is 117th (out of 120) nationally with only 26:42 per game. “That puts more pressure on us to score,” Vanderbilt running back Warren Norman told The Tennessean newspaper. “We just have to score on every single drive to keep up with them, basically.” But that’s another problem for Vanderbilt, which is 110th nationally in scoring offense, averaging only 16.63 points per game.

5. Do you think Duke would like to have that game with Richmond back? The Blue Devils are 4-3 after wins over N.C. State (49-28) and Maryland (17-13). Duke has to find two wins in its final five games with Virginia (Saturday in Charlottesville), North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Wake Forest in order to qualify for its first bowl game since 1994. The Blue Devils would need only one more win to become bowl-eligible had they taken care of business in the opener with Division I-AA Richmond (a 24-16 loss).

Wonder what Mike the Idiot has told his “boys” for this weeks game. I would be willing to bet the calls go UF way all game. One can only hope and pray the players will get sick of it and declare open season on the officials and send some of them to the sideline- oh…so sorry, didnt see you in the way….maybe that will get the message accross to the sewage on the field with stripes

What’s w/ the 400 carries comments? Tebow only really runs in the redzone. Walker, being a running back, ran from all over the field.

A fact the SEC refs will protect Timmy boy so he is 13-0…..then hopefully, when they play with some real officials Texas or someone blows them away…ala Nebraska in the desert.

As a UGA Alumnus I have to admit that I’m getting so tired and embarrassed about all the whinning on the officiating. Stop it already! Your making the rest of us look awful! Those calls did not cost us the game. Against LSU it was the weak 1st half output, or lack of, that cost us the game. Stop crying already.

The only way UGA wins this week is that someone goes to JAX and puts Visine in the gatorade bucket and pray it takes effect quickly. Sorry fellow Dawgs, but if we make Crompton look like an All American, were done. Our defense, which has the talent, needs to play lights out. Can’t play lights out if you have a DC that has no clue on how to install a game plan to stop them. It’s not for lack of talent. It’s the lack of coaching. CMR is a great HC, but his assitants are going to cost him his job if they don’t step up.

I’ll be watching and hoping. Something tells me I’ll be doing the yard by halftime. Go Dawgs!

if UF makes it to the NC game (and the officials seem intent on that happening) I can only hope they embarrass the SEC more than Bama did losing to UTAH. SEC or not, I will cheer for whoever plays this bunch of lowlifes hoping that they get a dose of their own medicine and lose the game on a bad call. Mikey wont be their to protect Timmy and Urban.

Class, Gators, and Tebow do not add up. The biggest cheapening factor for Tebow is Meyer’s love of running up the score. Timmy falls across from the one in the 4th quarter of a 30+-point blowout. And then showboats time after time. If goodness prevails and Ga wins, it will be so sweet becasue Tebow will tie SOS’s record of 1-2 vs the Dawgs as a starter. HW never feft the agony of defeat to any Gator. Timmy already has. CJ Spiller should win the Heisman. Tebow does not this year.

I have to hear from all the Gators down here in Tampa. Maybe I took that UT loss pretty bad, but it’s because I am a “Dawg fan” that makes me get ticked off.

If you are proud of the way that some dawgs fans are whinning about the officiating then sir you are an embarrassment to the University. My main point is that those calls did not cost us the game. Period.

Dave- YES, I do as a matter of Fact. Yes, I am a season ticket holder…Yes, I send $$$ to UGA every year and Yes, I get frustrated also, but they are my team win lose or draw. i am at the game to the end or in front of the TV to the end. These guys are not being paid, do not go out every week thinking of ways they can mess up or blow a game. These coaches work hard. They to, do not look for ways they can screw up. I spend 5 years at UGA and the 18 years before that as I was born in Athens. Sorry about the fact you live in Tampa but that my friend is no excuse because you live “around” all those gators. I live around Tech people and UF people and AU people, even CU people but I never throw my team under a bus. As for proud of the whinning?????? why not direct your irr to the SEC Officials. Its not just UGA that is “whinning” talk to Mullen, Kiffin and Pitrno…..LOOK AT THE REPLAYs, Instead of calling us an embarrassment for calling out something that needs to be looked into

Steve

Dave…as far as those gators you have to hear from all the time…point to the series record…point to the 5 loss seasons they just have a couple years back…many things to point to ….trust me- they have a long storied history that we can all talk about. They were the joke of the SEC for 60 plus years. Football did not start in 91. yes, thats history, but so is last year if we win on Sat.

It makes no sense to compare the two. For you people that say “Walker did it in 3 years”; well, Tebow did it in less than 600 carries; Walker needed 994 carries. Then I could turn around and say that Walker averaged 5.3 ypc for his career; Tebow never more than 4.3. I could also say that Tebow never had a TD run of over 30 yards, whereas Herschel was a threat to go that distance at any time. But then I could say but Tebow got a lot of his when teams had 9 in the box and they knew he was coming and they still couldn’t stop him. It’s idiotic to try to compare players from two different eras, two different positions and two dramatically different skill sets. But…if people want to keep doing that and YOU want to bring up the ‘three years’ thing, then my comeback is “Tebow did it on 33% less carries”. Your turn.

Clark

Dave- yeah i do. and your point is? We need people to get behind these guys not people that “doing the yard” by halftime. You may be a grad- but that doesnt make you a DAWG.

Hey once Florida gets to the 5 yard line you can kiss Herschel’s record good bye. Timmy will be pounding in there. Hell he may even try from as far out as the 12 yard line. But Rennie would have a shot at him then.

Regardless and all joking aside, congrats to Tebow when it does happen. That’s a monster record to hold and might not ever be broken. Hell it has taken another once in a lifetime player like Tebow and 25+ years to do it. Quite the accomplishment.

If Kiffin gets suspended for a game, he’d spend the entire next week being interviewed on every show on ESPN. He’d probably consider the publicity worth having to call plays against Vandy in via cell phone.

Regarding the Kiffin ham buying story comparing the complaining to Mike Leach’s situation in the Big 12. If Kiffy complains one more time he can buy AND deliver those hams because he will be suspended by Slive. He is on probation. SEC has always prided itself on class and respect when it comes to the headcoaches (all joshing from Spurrier aside) but Kiffy knows nothing about that. His dad should teach him a thing or two about class.

Fixing SEC games? That’s child’s play for this cabal of SEC refs. Their reach goes far beyond college football. I believe that SEC refs faked the lunar landing in 1969. I believe that SEC refs know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried. I believe that SEC refs are behind global warming. And I believe that SEC refs are more powerful than the Masons or the Bilderbergers.

I think that he will, and so what. Congratulations to the young man are indeed warranted. Now, if he could figure out how to beat UGA 3 years in a row, that would be a feat. He can’t do that. I hope we stop him, but come on, he will do anything that he can to score against UGA.

Kiffin, get real, he has done stupid things since he got there, you can’t fix stupid.

Ole Miss, who cares now!

Vandy will keep it as short a time as they can, Tech will keep it along time. Tech wins big unless they are cocky. Will they chop block Vandy? Might not get away with it with SEC ref’s. Oh yeah the head of the SEC officials is a Tech grad. No bias for sure. After watching that bozo on the TB show the other night, there is no doubt why our SEC ref’s are under such peril.

Duke, I guess LSU wishes that they had the game with UF back, and so on and so forth. If’s and buts were candy and nuts.

On the SC/Tenn game, you can bet he will get bad calls, Dark Visor is on the other sideline

While I agree that Tebow is a great player. His stats include post season touchdowns that Herchel’s stats do not. Tim would have to score 6 touchdowns to break the record and I don’t believe even Tim can do that. Herchel played in 33 games, not counting bowl games and TT has played in at least 45, maybe more. It’s like comparing an apple to an orange.
