Georgia Tech keeps rolling at Virginia

If Auburn’s offense had not been missing in action last week in a 21-14 loss to Kentucky, your Fearless Forecaster would have gone 10-0. We picked Georgia Tech’s upset of No. 4 Virginia Tech. We promised you and Arkansas-Florida would be closer than the experts thought. (Insert your comment about the officiating here).

That gives us a record of 52-18 on the season.

Except for Georgia Tech’s visit to Virginia, it looks like a less than exciting set of games this Saturday. But that’s when the fireworks—and the upsets—usually start.  Look for at least one big surprise this weekend.

Let’s get on with the Fearless Friday Forecast:

1. Georgia Tech at Virginia: It looks like Cavalier coach Al Groh has saved his bacon after an 0-3 start. Groh realized that the spread offense was not going to work and went back to basics. Now Virginia is playing power football and pretty good defense. But if Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt keeps playing like he has the past four weeks, the Yellow Jackets are going to be very hard to beat. Tech rolls to 7-1. Georgia Tech 28, Virginia 13.

2. Tennessee at Alabama: The Volunteers are feeling kind of frisky since taking Georgia to the woodshed on Oct. 10. But Tennessee needs to realize that the Alabama defense is an entirely different animal.  Alabama, for instance, can actually rush the passer. This team eats quarterbacks for lunch and will make life very difficult for Jonathan Crompton. The Tennessee defense will keep the Vols in the game for about a half. But Alabama simply wears opponents down and beats them up. Alabama pulls away in the fourth quarter. Alabama 24, Tennessee 6.

3. Arkansas at Ole Miss: We wouldn’t have said this before the season started, but Arkansas will win this game because it has the better quarterback. Ryan Mallett was brilliant against the Florida defense last week and has 14 touchdown passes and only three interceptions. Jevan Snead of Ole Miss bounced back against UAB last week but he still has nine interceptions. Ole Miss could win this game because of its defensive front. But I just have a hunch that Arkansas is going to play well after the tough loss at Florida. Arkansas 24, Ole Miss 21.

4. Auburn at LSU: Auburn started 5-0 and got its fans all excited. Now the Tigers have dropped two straight to Arkansas and Kentucky and now their fans are getting worried. If Auburn quarterback Chris Todd can regain his touch, Gene Chizik’s team has a shot in Baton Rouge. That’s because LSU still hasn’t figured out what kind of offense it wants to be. Still, it’s worth noting that Auburn has not won in Baton Rouge since 1999. LSU 21, Auburn 14.

5. Florida at Mississippi State: Tim Tebow goes against his old offensive coordinator Dan Mullen, who is now the head guy in Starkville. Florida played one of its worst offensive games in a long time against Arkansas with four turnovers and six quarterback sacks. Tebow also had to carry the ball 27 times, which is something you’d rather not do with a quarterback who just had  a concussion. Mississippi State doesn’t have the athletes Mullen needs, but the Bulldogs are moving the ball on just about everybody. Florida could also be caught looking ahead to next week’s trip to Jacksonville to play Georgia. Florida wins another ugly game.  One historical note. If Tebow scores two rushing touchdowns, he will break Herschel Walker’s career SEC mark of 49.  Florida 24, Miss. State 10.

6. Vanderbilt at South Carolina: Vanderbilt has won two straight against the Gamecocks but don’t figure to make it three. Still Steve Spurrier has great respect for the Commodores, who manhandled his Gamecocks two years ago in Columbia. That loss started a five-game losing streak to end the season. South Carolina (5-2) needs this win to become bowl eligible. Spurrier also knows that his team is facing the really brutal part of its schedule with Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, and Clemson remaining. “Our schedule is tougher the latter part of the year. We know that,” Spurrier said. South Carolina 24, Vanderbilt 7.

7. Clemson at Miami: Clemson fans are rightfully confused. They watched their Tigers lose to 1-3 Maryland on Oct. 3 and it appeared that Dabo Swinney’s team was falling apart. After an off week, which included some serious and sometimes heated discussions among coaches and players, Clemson comes back to dominate Wake Forest 38-3. So is Clemson finally starting to turn the corner under Swinney? We should find out Saturday when the Tigers go  to No. 10 Miami. The Hurricanes are 5-1 but they’ve only played three ACC games. They may also be the ACC’s best hope at a national championship team. I like Miami at home. Miami 21, Clemson 17.

8. Boston College at Notre Dame: Boston College has won six straight games in this series between the two major Catholic football playing schools. Paul Johnson of Georgia Tech will probably be the ACC coach of the year, but BC’s Frank Spaziani has to get some votes. The Eagles (5-2) were picked dead last in the ACC Atlantic and are currently leading the division. Here is your upset special of the week. Boston College 28, Notre Dame 24.

9. TCU at BYU: TCU (6-0) is No. 8 in the first BCS Standings and has a real shot to go 12-0 if the Horned Frogs can get past Max Hall and BYU. TCU has an underrated quarterback in Andy Dalton, whose 23 career wins at TCU is second only to the great Sammy Baugh, who had 29. Jerry Hughes might be the best defensive end in the country. This is the best game on the board this Saturday. TCU 31, BYU 24.

10. USF at Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh is 6-1 but the Panthers have been here before under Dave Wannstedt.  Pitt started 6-1 in 2006 and proceeded to lose its last five games to finish 6-6. The last time the Panthers were 7-1 was in 1982 when Dan Marino led them to a 9-1 start. Pittsburgh has found a star in freshman running back Dion Lewis, who is third in the nation in rushing at 131.14 yards per game. Pittsburgh, No. 20 in the first BCS standings, appears headed for a show down with No. 5 Cincinnati on Dec. 5 for the Big East championship. They will take care of USF. Pittsburgh 23, USF 13.

Why is Miami the best hope for an ACC National Championship team?
Georgia Tech will move past Miami after Clemson beats them.

The Yellow Jackets beat Virginia and make a HUGE JUMP in the BCS rankings.

I think the upset special will be Virginia over Georgia Tech. Betting the Jackets are still swapping stories about the win over Virginia Tech last week. Classic letdown after a huge win.

Tony, I like your score prediction for the Alabama game; however, I think that’s what it’ll be at half time. This one won’t be close.

Agree with the Arkansas and LSU picks.

LOL! Florida looking ahead to Georgia? That’s like saying they’re looking ahead to Vandy. Florida gets it together and has the game in hand by halftime. Georgia should consider taking another bye week next Saturday.

Agree with South Carolina and Miami

I’d love to see Notre Shame lose again, but I don’t think it’s going to happen against Boston College. Should be close though.

Something tells me BCS divine intervention steps in and takes TCU out of the picture. Go Mormons!

Tony:

If the Canes OL protects QB Jacory Harris like they did against the Sooners top-rated DL they can win. If it’s a repeat like last week at UCF (6 sacks) they won’t. Also, UM will need to win the special teams battle as Ford and Spiller are gamebreakers.

Best matchup of the day: Miami’s young receivers vs. the Tigers’ experienced secondary. That will be fun to watch and a key to victory.

Big concern for UM: depth. Eight players are out for the year due to injury and five of them are on defense.

If the weather (rain) doesn’t louse things up this should be a great ACC conference game. It’s Friday, favorite day of the week!

Go Canes!

As a realist, I know Tennessee-Alabama should go the way of the Red Tide. Practically every facet of this game is in the Elephants favor. CLK hasn’t the tools Saban possesses to thwart the Ragin’ Pacs but I must remain loyal to the cause. Tennessee shocks the world and beats the refs and yes, I will show up in front of the 13″ RCA b&w wearing my Orange jersey…GBO

AtlantaCane:

Always good to see an honest assessment of the game instead of “fanboy” smack-talking.

I completely agree with your assessment of the game. If the “U”’s OL can protect Harris, I think Miami wins the game. If Clemson’s DL can harass him all day, Clemson may pull out an upset.

I am also looking forward to the matchup between Miami’s WRs and Clemson’s DBs. Clemson has a very talented and experienced pair of CBs in Chancellor and Butler (both should be in the League next year), and arguably the conference’s top safety in McDaniel. It will be fun watching them match up with Miami’s young, but extremely talented, WRs. Again, the key is whether Harris has time to sit in the pocket and find them. If that happens, game over.

Miami can easily win this game by 10+, but for some reason I think Clemson pulls off the upset.

Johnson pounds Virginia...

October 23rd, 2009

In Paul Johnson’s first year. He ended a couple of big streaks: UGA’s over us, and FSU’s over us. This year, he ended the Tallahassee curse. He’s also 2-0 against two of the teams that beat us last year. (North Carolina and VT). The third team who beat us in the regular season last year…UVA. CPJ is not happy about that loss, and our triple option will run rampant over them. Plus, their offense is mediocre enough that our up/down defense should even be able to handle them, especially with Sewell (their QB) likely sidelined with an ankle injury. Tech prevails by 14.

A couple of key points for the GaTech – UVa game:

UVa cannot get into a shootout with Tech; it’s like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

If UVa is agressive on defense (ala Miami), they have a chance. If they sit back playing “disciplined,” the UVa deficit will Groh.

I am worried about this game for GT. Last year UVa manhandled a better O line up front and ran the ball all over the Jackets. But on the other hand, I believe GT fumbled in the redzone and squandered a couple opportunities. I will be interested to see if UVa’s traditionally big O line has the same success this year. Both teams wanna run it but I see GT’s offense with the explosiveness UVa lacks. GT 31 – UVa 20

Tebow will not get the opportunity to score the 2 touchdowns because Urban wants him to get them next week against us. Urban not only wants to beat us badly but wants to smear our nose in it by taking Herschel’s record in front of 50,000 beaten and dejected Dawg fans.

The question is what is CMR going to do about it? The comments out of Athens this week make me think the answer is “nothing”. This nonchalant attitude makes me sick and I’m tired of it. So have a good time at Jon’s game, I will be at home scouting the Gators.

Tony says: GT:28 UVA:24 ?? What a joke.
UVA is SO BAD is all ways, it could be GT:128 UVA:24.

UVA has played so UNBELIEVABLY bad ALL YEAR…against BAD teams, except TCU.
The UVA wins against UNC & MD were awful.
UNC had 3 TOs vs UVA. MD had 4 TOs vs UVA.
UVA had (9) 1st downs and (63) yds rushing vs “Marylan” (no D).

GT will absolutely D-E-S-T-R-O-Y UVA.

Its gonna be a COMPLETE & TOTAL AZZ WHOOPIN !!!!

Clemson vs Miami:
I’ll take Clemson here. The Clemson beatdown of Wake tells me that clemson fixed whatever “issues” they were having. Miami didnt look impressive vs UCF. There’s a reason Miami got crushed by VT. This is THE GAME of the weekend for the ACC.

Since FSU beat UNC, a Clemson win likely sets up the Clemson-FSU game as the ACC-A title match. I dont see BC winning the ACC-A. A Miami loss practically gurarantees a GT-Clemson or GT-FSU rematch for the ACC-CG.

BC vs ND: Absolutely no way in Hell BC beats ND. Period.

Lastly, Tony Bias says: “They [Miami]may also be the ACC’s best hope at a national championship team.”

My response: F-You Tony.

Thanks for the “left-handed” insult to GT.

If Miami loses, guess who looks like the “best hope for a NC team”:

The biggest problem in the ACC has been the general inability of the better teams to win on the road. Frankly except for the Alabama game the Hokies have not played a good game on the road. GT had their problems on the road and everyone knows what happened when Miami went to VT. I would have to guess the teams that can perform the best on the road in the ACC the rest of the season will end up in Tampa.

Clemson found ways to choke in the recent past because of Tommy Bowden.

He absolutely SUCKED as a HC, and Clemson has generally played much better since he was canned.

The Clemson-Wake game would indciate that Clemson fixed whatever “coaching issues” they were having that caused the lost to MD.

Comments in response to Tony—-

(1) Georgia Tech over Virginia (?). On paper this should be a no-brainer given the relative strengths and weaknesses of the two teams. Still . . . something weird always seems to happen when the Jackets play in Scott Stadium. Pencil this one in as a “possible,” but not “probable” upset.

(2) Alabama over Tennessee, 27-10, but it won’t feel that close. The Tide defense will shut the Volunteers offense down for three-plus quarters. If the Tide can get in UT QB Crompton’s face, this game has the potential to get ugly.

(3) Ole Miss over Arkansas, 27-20. These are two relatively equal teams on paper, but the Hogs will be emotionally drained after their close and disappointing loss to the Gators, and the Rebs should be angry about their season so far and motivated to do something about it.

(4) LSU over Auburn, 27-13, in the Tiger Bowl. Two teams on the rise, but LSU is the more complete team now. That should be enough for the win.

(5) Florida over Mississippi State, 31-13. Florida’s defense shuts the Bulldogs down, and the Gator offense takes full advantage of MSU’s mistakes. Mullen is good, but he doesn’t have the horses.

I think Clemson has their sights set on UM. It’s a big game for both. Clemson knows they can be the spoiler here. How great would it be for them to upset a top ten team? They should be ready to play. The key to the game will come down to CU’s DL against UM’s OL. I think their DL can get to Harris and harrass him. CU win a close one 20-17.

I dont need to be “classy” here. Tony “dissed” GT.
I just call like it…like Tony writes it.

I dont put on any “pretenses” like Tony.
He’s a complete SEC/UGA Homer in every possible way. Thats OK.

But dont promote yourself out here as “Mr. College Football”
when you’re nothng of the sort.

His bias against ALL THINGS non-SEC and mindless defense of the trainwreck we call the BCS is obvious to everyone, except SEC fans.
But hey thats OK. His right.

But dont push the LIE that you’re “Mr. College Football”
and then turn around and “diss” a 6-1 local team that ALSO has a shot.
I would HOPE to get a lot more “street cred” from from a local sports writer.

He is simply an SEC media “w-hore.” Nothing more.

Head in the Sand:
Pull yours out of the sand. Just take a look at UVA stats year-to-date. Awful in almost every possible way…against BAD teams.

And, ND is playing very good ball, with a Heisman candidate QB.

BC is playing with a 25 yr old “freshman” QB, who has struggled all year, and lots of key talent missing. ND still has some BCS hopes.
ND should slam-dunk BC.

This GT team has amazing focus this year and it all starts with great coaching. Many “monkeys” have been removed from our backs and tomorrow, hopefully, we will remove one more.

Here are 2 U.Va statistics that worry me a little though:

• Virginia is one of two teams nationally to convert on all of its red-zone opportunities this year (the other is San Jose State).

• UVa is 17 of 17 (10 TD, 7 FG) this year when entering the red zone. All 10 touchdowns have come via the run.

Solution (as long as GT delivers): keep U.Va out of the red zone!! Get ahead early, play defense like we did against VA Tech to force some U.Va 3-and-outs, then play disciplined long-possession football and wear down the clock. 6 yards, 4 yards, 6 yards, 4 yards … all day long.

Easier said than done, for sure, but this GT team is playing like a solid unit right now (much like the 1990 team was). The less we have to hear Auld Lang Syne after each U.Va score the better. I used to like that song.

CPJ and the team knows what’s at stake here. They know they have to win out and hope UM loses one for them to even get to the ACCCG. I don’t think they’re going to take any team lightly from here on out. They know how big each and every game is and will do whatever it takes to win. This isn’t the old Jackets. They may have F’d up in the past but not with CPJ at the helm. He will not allow them to give anything less than 100%. Even when they do well, CPJ praises them for about a minute and then launches into what the team could have done better. The guys are buying into his beliefs. We won’t have another LSU meltdown. I’m sure CPJ tells the guys “you’re good but not great so don’t think you are”. Tech will be ready tomorrow just like they were ready for VT.

Tech fans have every reason to be excited and I don’t blame them for taking the opportunity to rib Georgia fans given that GT won the most recent game and their program looks to be headed in the right direction. But a little perspective here……..the SEC is ONLY now getting the hype they’ve deserved for 50 years. The conference has a winning record verses every other major conference……and no other conference comes anywhere close to sporting 6 teams who are among the the top 20 programs all time. There is no conference that has put more players in the NFL than the SEC and thats been a trend for 30 years. Not to mention that the interest in the SEC is unparrelled. The Yanks and Sox may not always be the best team (they are a lot) but they get the most coverage because they have the most fans.

and did anyone see kiffin give UGA a few more back-handed slaps this week? he said Alabama’s defense will be much, much stronger than their last opponent’s(UGA), mainly because saban will change things up from week to week, whereas, their last opponent was just so predictable.. hmmm?!? he also made it clear that to him, UGA is now officially their biggest rivalry because of recruiting…so now we have how many big rivals? GT, UF, USC, AUB,,,now UT? not to mention UA or what used to be a huge rival, Clemson. why is it everyone wants to beat us so bad? oh, that’s right, to be the best, you have to beat the best!!!!! This is a different Tech team from the recent past. Sure, after a big win we would’ve easily let up in the past. Not this time, not with this coach. He is keeping them focused and I like how we’ve been beating the teams we should be beating: Miss. State, FSU, UNC. I just don’t see a let up from this coach and this team. GT wins 28-20.

Tony has a right to say whatever he wants, and I’m glad he is picking Tech these days (otherwise he would look foolish picking against the local team that’s on a roll). But he shouldn’t be lobbying the football world against Tech by saying only UM has a chance. He is showing his true colors with a statement like that and I hope we can make him eat those words later in the year. Our only recourse is to focus on the business at hand and JUST KEEP WINNING!!

Tech relies on big plays, like any other team, only the plays have to come on big runs. Those runs aren’t a function of elusive, open-field talents; rather, they’re based on precise and effective blocking against teams that insist on stuffing the box. UVA doesn’t play the kind of defense that a well-executed Tech offense would thrive against. It’s not a 4-3 with the safeties up, like Virginia Tech and others run against the Wreck. And even though we know Tech will run and run and run (and occasionally pass), the truth is we’ll stay boring and rely on sure tackling from linebackers reading the plays from the comfort of being two yards off the line of scrimmage. True, if they fill and miss the tackle, Tech will get first downs. But the big runs would depend on safeties and DBs being blocked or out of position, which would seem unlikely. Our plan this year will be the same as last: rely on reaction from the LBs to make sure tackles for gains of no more then 4 yards, force third downs of three yards or more, and then rely on one of the nation’s best third down defenses to force punts. If Tech can’t get big plays on offense, they may try to press — which is what they did last year that got them to make turnovers and bad decisions. If they’re more patient this year than last, that could change things. Problem is, they’ll be on the road where emotions can get the better of a visiting team. Sure, tech will be favored, but one should not be surprised if they get caught looking in Charlottesville.

Go HOOS!

Just a few extra thoughts about the GT-UVA game before the weekend:

Bobby Bowden: “We just couldnt stop that GT offense.”

Frank Beamer: “We just couldnt stop that GT offense.”

GT won in Tallahassee for the 1st time EVER.
GT beat VT…in Atlanta…for the 1st time…since 1990.

GT has (17) starters returning from 2008 with.
UVA has (8). Thats not a typo…(8).

UVA stats thru 6 games are incredibly bad !! Against BAD teams !!

CPJ surely knows that if Clemson beats Miami,
then that will obviously help GT in the BCS standings.

To MAXIMIZE…the boost GT will get in the BCS rankings,
then GT needs to win…CONVINCINGLY. No “28-24″ close game Bullsh**
like Tony Bias is offering.

I expect to see GT lay a beatdown on UVA.

For BCS “style” points, CPJ needs a CONVINCING blow-out type of win.

And, I think thats exactly whats gonna happen.

GT-O is gonna put up HUGE points, and GT-D will play for a shut-out.

It wont surprise me at all if its somethng like: GT:56 UVA:9

dis n dat…

- re cpj… tony mentions his chances are pretty good to win acc coy for two straight. he is starting to hear accolades from opposing coaches on a national level. urban myers attended a few his coaching clinics. he is accomplishing a good season with another coaches players.

espn announcers said that of all the one loss teams, gt had the best chance to win out. if we were fortunate enough for that to happen we would be 12-1. i know i know that will be a tough row to hoe.

going a bit further… my guess is that their will be around 10 total teams with 1 loss or less at the end of the season. i can see maybe 2 undefeated teams.

funny things do happen sometimes at the end of seasons as the stress mounts for each team to win out. remember when TheOSU leapfrogged from like no 6 into the nc game over the last 2 weeks of the season a few years back?

if gt were fortunate enough to win out we should be mid top 10. also keep in mind that gt plays in the acc coastal. the coastal is by far the best of the acc. duke is looking competitive, and uva is looking a whole lot better. than we have 3 good teams in gt um an vt. the stage is set…..

13-1. mnc game or not i would be stoked.

Even though AU got off to a good start…they’re starting to look like they’re not as good as everybody thought. They started out w/ a weak schedule, & now they’ve lost 2 in a row…w/ the last one being against KY. Now they play LSU on the road at night, & then Ole Miss before they play UGA. So as bad as UGA has looked at times….nobody in their right mind who isn’t biased should think UGA won’t have a chance against them especially. I guess we’ll have to see how both teams play over the next couple of weeks before we start jumping to conclusions. I’m not even convinced tha the FL. game will be impossible to win. After all, if it wasn’t for the refs…then Ark. would have beaten FL. I’m not saying UGA will win all 3 of those, but I would expect for them to at least win one of those games.

Midway through the season, Crompton’s cofidense and Kiffen’s confidence in Crompton has grown. You can see it in the play calls and the production. That said, how will Tennessee score fewer points in this game than the Florida game?

prediction – Bama offensively will play a conservative game to avoid turn overs with a struggling McElroy focusing primarily on the run. Tennessee with its confidence will come out aggressively similar to how it did against Georgia. The Tennessee offense is better than SC’s, so what we saw last week will not be repeated. Tennessee will convert and keep their defense on the bench less than people think. Montario Hardesty is every bit as talented as Ingram and we will see that in this game. This game will be much closer and lower scoring than most think. I am obviously biased and I am calling for the upset. Tennessee will be riding its new found confidence and will score early hushing the crowd. Ingram will be spied all game long by Berry void him out. Evans will be all over Jones similar to how he took Greene out of the Georgia game. This will come down to QB’s with Crompton being more productive than McElroy. Bet on it.

I have a question. LSU barely beat MISS ST. MSU had 4 turnovers in the game. LSU had 0. Miss st lost by 4 and should have won if they had scored on 3 goal line stands.
So what if Fla wins by less than 14? Will that open the eyes of everyone saying fla and the sec is so great?

Fla plays 4 road games this year along with their joke of ooc games. What a joke their schedule is. Half the sec teams would be undefeated with that schedule. Plus, they needed the refs to give them the Ark game. Must be nice.

Hahahhaa BC is going to beat Notre Dame? BC has been embarassing when it has played a team with a pulse (Clemson & Va. Tech). They exploded against a truly terrible NC State that got blown out by Duke. Duke = BC. Notre Dame by 4 touchdowns, at least.

Clemson beating Miami is nothing but wishful thinking. If it were in Death Valley, I’d be inclined to say that they have a shot, but I don’t see them going to Miami and winning. Clemson is highly talented but largely undisciplined. Mistakes will kill them.

If Georgia Tech was facing a tough opponent next week, I would worry more about the UVa game being a “trap” game. Those “sandwich” games are notorious traps. However, Tech has nothing to look forward to but Vandy, Wake and Duke before the Dawgs come calling. It’s way too early for them to be looking ahead to the UGAg game. I look for Tech to start slowly but build momentum before halftime and roll in the second half. The only fear would be if we gave up some quick scores (special teams, turnovers, or big plays) early and fell behind by 2 touchdowns or more in the first quarter.

Here let me give you little boys a history lesson…. Since 1964, the Jackets have managed just 12 wins against Georgia. Let me say that again for all of you Jacket fans out there…12 wins in 45 games. To say that Georgia has dominated this series in the past 45 seasons would be a slight understatement. During that stretch of dominance, Georgia has posted win streaks of five, six and seven (twice). Tech has won three straight once (1998-2000).

You had your year of slammin’ the Dawg Nation… but, it will come back to haunt you. Speaking of haunt… after the Dawgs upset Florida next week, keeping Tebow from getting those magical 2 TDs to pass HW, they will be tuning up a little more to trounce you Techsters in the middle of your HS stadium. My only comment will be, after it’s all said and done, is, “You can dish it out, but you just can’t take it.” I hope you go undefeated until Nov. 28th, because the shock to your system will be tremendous. This is college football, so anything can happen. It cracks me up that all these “so and so has no chance of beating so and so.” You are wrong. Said that many times about UVA when Tech visited there, and lost money on it. UVA stinks but somehow finds a way to make life tough for Tech. Maybe this year breaks the jinx.

Otherwise, just don’t get this obsession with UGA by Tech fans. Someone stupidly stated in this thread that UGA is going to be down for several years. Moronic. UGA isn’t going to be down and isn’t even done with 2009. Let’s wait and see what happens before declaring UGA dead. And one more thing, Mark Richt has a very good chance of defeating Tech THIS year. Tech, as good as they are, has to outscore the good teams they play in order to win. Miami just throttled them and has a much better overall team. All if takes to beat Tech is a decent defense and a solid offense. Tech cannot stop ANYONE on defense, so we shall see what happens. I wouldn’t write UGA off just yet, and certainly would not write them off for 2010. Richt isn’t stupid…he’s been declared dead before and stunned the football world (see 2006). He will make the necessary staff adjustments, and could likely win the SEC East in 2010. IF he makes the right adjustments, Lane Kiffin will be eating crow for dinner after UT (with a brand new QB and OL mind you) gets waxed in Sanford Stadium next October (remember, “I will not lose to Georgia ever as long as I am the coach here” per Lane Kiffin). Stupid statement. Not even Urban Meyer would make a statement that stupid.

I agree. I like the Hogs, norrmally in this situation, but not after the heartbreaking loss LW at the hands of the AH-refs, just like what happens to the Dawgs the week before the TN game. Don’t know how or why it happens, but it does. Arky won’t be able to focus all week wondering what they could have done better or different, and they won’t be in this game either.

YEP, Yellow Fuzz, I did. I admit, many obnoxious Dawg fans have dumped on you Techsters over the years, and you guys are spewing all you can, while you can… and deservedly so, I guess. But, after all this blasting of 45-53, etal, I wonder how y’all will act when the roles are reversed again this year. You will not beat UGA this season, and you probably know it. CMR has his teams at peak performance by the end of the season, but he failed last year, as did the team. I attribute it to taking GT too lightly, especially after the shellacking they gave you in the first half. I guess it comes back to “Haunt You” (I love saying that around Halloween) when you take things for granted… like you are an automatic win this year. See you after that game, I hope. I do see Tenn giving the Tide all they can handle, but succuming (sp?) in the end, probably by bad officiating by another crew. For what it’s worth, I see Miami, ND, TCU and S. Va revamped their offense at the start of the year to the spread. It was obviously a big mistake. If they were to play WM with their current o style, they win by 30. Army is becoming a better team and Vandy took them lightly (although they can’t afford to take any team lightly ;-) That said, I don’t think you can diss the Dawgs because they beat Vandy (after they lost to Army). The Dawgs did put a whoopin’ in them though. They didn’t squeek by. I’m telling you, I’ve watched this team (and many, many FSU teams with Richt as coach), and CMR gets them better, not worse. Miami of Florida beat you soundly 33-17.

Tech has to be within 5 spots and have beat Miami of Florida head-to-head, which Tech did not.

Miami of Florida is also ahead of Georgia Tech by 3 positions in the BCS Rankings.

Neither team plays a single good team, except Tech plays UGA whom they will never beat, in the last game.

There are no other even beginning to be reasonable opponents for either Georgia Tech nor Miami of Florida.

Nothing Georgia Tech can do to jump Miami of Florida, and if Georgia Tech did jump Miami of Florida and Miami of Florida is within 5 spots of Georgia Tech, Miami of Florida goes to the BCS Bowl Game representing this said sorry conference, the ACC.

This is because Georgia Tech LOST to Miami of Florida head-to-head 17-33.

Your season was over the nanosecond you LOST to Miami of Florida.

You will NOT beat UGA anyway, and will drop farther behind Miami of Florida.

You have run your mouth about how great you are in a sorry conference because instead of LOSING to UGA for the 60th time, you delayed that 60th LOSS to UGA until this season.

I hope that this clarifies just how absolutely void of any common sense you are at Georgia Tech.

National Championship, B.S. Tech has NEVER EVER been ranked Number 1 by the AP Poll ever. And, this year is obviously no different with you Number 13.

Now, run your mouth some more.

BuLLdawg,

Great that we caused you to take time to do some home work. Maybe if you had done more of it when you were at georgia you wouldn’t be so ignorant today.

I have found numerous flaws in your research and graded it below. You may want to print this out and take it back to your maintenance office on Monday (full of 1980’s memorabilia I am sure) and crank up your Harry Munson 1980’s highlight 8 track, and make some corrections. This is not some crip course at the university of georgia you are taking. THIS is real life in the real world little man.

BuLLdawg = F+

“Tech plays UGA whom they will never beat, in the last game”.
45-42 proves otherwise.

“Nothing Georgia Tech can do to jump Miami, and if Georgia Tech did jump Miami”
LOL.

“Your season was over the nanosecond you LOST to Miami of Florida”.
LOL.

“You will NOT beat UGA anyway, and will drop farther behind Miami of Florida”.
We will beat Georgia again (I guarantee it) but because that will make you like 5-7 at the time that won’t help us make up any ground on Miami. How about winning some games to add value to our strength of schedule!

“I hope that this clarifies just how absolutely void of any common sense you are at Georgia Tech”.
?

“National Championship, B.S. Tech has NEVER EVER been ranked Number 1 by the AP Poll ever. And, this year is obviously no different with you Number 13”.
True, but even that is better than being ranked number 1 in the AP Preseason Poll only to drop to 104 in just 13 months. Yank on the ripcord dude!

“Now, run your mouth some more”.
I will because at georgia you just fit the mold. At Georgia Tech, we make the mold!

The weather will be a HUGE factor tomorrow. Can’t wait until we see some pitch outs on that 3rd option land on the ground! If we get up early on GT they won’t be able to recover, especially with a weak passing O. I think UVA wins and it’s not close. Glad to see so many of you GT fans see it differently, and hope your team does also. The curse continues… UVA 24 GT 14 Go HOOS!!!

You are kidding, right? Your offense can’t score. You’re 107th in the country in ttl offense against really bad teams and you think you can score 24 on a good team then you’re nuts. Holding us to 14 just isn’t going to happen either. HA HA HA!!!

Chuck Uga… Mark Richt has a very good chance of defeating Tech THIS year. Tech, as good as they are, has to outscore the good teams they play in order to win. All if takes to beat Tech is a decent defense and a solid offense.

The problem with your statement is UGA doesn’t have either of those.

Oops, they did it again! But this time it was (predictably) Penn Wagers’ crew that missed a crucial call. After Florida’s interception and TD return, the CBS replay and still pic showed the Gator defender fumbled the ball BEFORE he scored. Mississippi State recovered in the end zone and should have had the ball on their 20. After review, Wagers ruled it a Gator TD. In a 29-19 game, this TD was crucial. (Near the end of the game, MSU would have had an opportunity to tie it– trailing 22-19.) Wagers (along with Marc Curles) has no business officiating ball games. It’s more than amazing how Florida has gotten two “gifts” in the last two weeks, to go with LSU’s against Georgia.

Every one loss team in the top 10 lost to a good ranked team except for #4 southern CAL, who got beat by 3-5 Washington. The Left Coast just does not get it when it comes to football rankings ——– Georgia Tech should be in the top 10 instead of southern CAL.

And the SEC refs just keep taking care of BCS Number 1 Florida.

Final score: Florida 29 Mississippi State 19

Now take away the phantom TD where the Florida player loses the ball just before going over the goal line and it is Florida 22 Mississippi State 19.

Now Mississippi State kicks the extra point rather than going for 2 to try and catch up with 2 TD’s and 2 2-point conversions and the score is Florida 22 Mississippi State 20

Mississippi State got the ball back with about 3 and 1/2 minutes at the ed of the game at around their own 45. If all they have to do is to drive to the Florida 30 to kick it I think they can do it. and the score is Mississippi State 23 Florida 22. Upset!

But the SEC refs took care of the Gators for the second week in a row. If there is a judgement call to be made, the SEC refs are going to make sure it is going to go the Gators way. Got to keep that BCS CG in the SEC for the recognition and the money.

Perhaps they should change their name from the Gators to the Zebras.

Yellow Jackets are pretty good this year. Might be better than Southern Cal… might be.

When they develop a recent history of winning championships, then GA Tech will be considered a higher ranked one loss team. It’s not just about to whom you lost. Comparing head-to-head match-ups is interesting, but not prophetic.

MSU fans;

All I can say after watching some of the replays is y’all got JOBED big time by the SEC/FLA homer refs!!! Last time I checked y’all are part of the SEC too; same with Arkansas. I would ask “what the h@ll is up” with the OBVIOUSLY pathetic calls in both games but then my senses came back to me and I remembered who I was wondering about here. The SEC can’t have ole Urban Cryer going into one of his tantrums again let alone the second coming “pork chop” I mean T-bone going all wet in the eyes again because they ACTUALLY were beatin!!! Can’t have the big payday bein’ SCREWED WITH here now can we??? Nope, gotta PROTECT the chosen one so as to make sure that he wins another UNWARRANTED TITLE!!!!

Y’all were screamin’ bloody murder in ‘04/05 ABOUT how y’all would have taken care of SC if ONLY the “polls” hadn’t of “protected” SC; well it isn’t the polls but rather the REFS doin’ the protectin in this case. What do y’all have to say for yourselves?? Before y’all answer this, would you be so quick to defend the defenslessness of this mess IF FLA wasn’t lookin to collect another Crystal ball??

I have no gripe against Tech, they’re a good team with a good coach and a tough system to take on with only a week to prepare. Sure WE blew it out our @ss in Seattle; seems to be something we have made a bad habit of these past few years, but y’all really think for one minute that we wouldn’t take care of business against any SEC team??
