I am a life-long, diehard college football fan. Over the years I have suffered through many horrible calls (None of which were worse than the pass interference call against Miami against Ohio State in '03, though admittedly I am a 'Canes fan). So many times I swore I was done with the sport, tired of the increased commercialization, the ever growing divide between the "collegiate" and "athletic" nature of the NCAA. and the demise of the game's amateur status. Yet each fall I came back, optimism overflowing with the promise of a new season.

This year has been different for me though. I increasingly find watching the game to be a waste of my time. This year, I cannot help but feel how I did as a kid when I watched the WWF. It was entertaining, especially for young boys relentlessly pursuing archetypes of uber masculinity, but deep down inside you knew the whole thing was a smoke and mirrors side show. That is what college football has become in my eyes and the last few weeks have been the proverbial backbreaking straw. I have lost the passion for the game. Not because of players, or hot headed and egomaniacal coaches, but because deep down inside I can no longer deny the obvious - this game has become little more than corporate entertainment.

College football today is as managed, polished, and scripted as a presidential campaign. And the most egregious failure in college football is not the existence of occasionally bad calls (those are inevitable) but the fact that the integrity of the entire game, not just a few officials, has been compromised.

I used to love Saturdays during the fall, but now I just find myself half-heartedly watching a game that used to stir so much passion in me. I do not know if conference officials are encouraging referees to lean in favor of one team or another. I do not know if referees are on the take due to the meager compensation they receive. I do know one thing for certain - college football is as commercially successful as it ever has been, and long-time loyal fans of the sport are paying the price.

Enough is enough! I have been giving the SEC officials the benefit of the doubt every week. However, these really bad calls every week by the SEC officials are not isolated instances. They are happening every week. Either SEC officials are totally incompetent, or they are corrupt. The consistent blindness of the SEC officials points to corruption at the very top of the SEC. It is unfortunate that I will now be watching the SEC officials more closely than the play of the SEC teams!

How can referee tom ritter still be allowed to be on the field? This guy continues to affect the outcome of games in the sec.I watched the alabama-lsu game and that crew cost lsu the opportunity to win the game. I hear a lot about certain teams getting help from the refs in crucial situations(usc, fla, alabama to name a few) and i have to admit it's starting to put a taint on the collegiate game as a whole and doubt in fans all over.

This half game suspension that Urban Myer has handed out is a joke and the rubber stamp the SEC has given it is even bigger. Just go to the different sports sites on the net and read some of the responses. It's like at least 20 to 1 against it and these are not Georgia or SEC fans either. The SEC is clearly trying to protect their franchise team the Gators and at the same time ruining it for the rest of the conference. I hope the NCAA will step up to the plate and do whats right before our mighty SEC ship goes the way of the Titanic. I've gone to the SEC website looking for a contact e-mail, but found none. They don't want our opinion, just our money.

For all of you who say the SEC officiating is the worst need to get a life. The speed of the game in the SEC is so fast that mistakes are made and nobody is perfect. The wac and mwc make the most mistakes and are voted the worse officiating crews every year. Major League Baseball and NBA have the worst officials. No conspiracy theory here your just jealous of the SEC athletes and success.
