The Fearless Friday Forecast

Ouch.

Your Fearless Forecaster went 5-5 last week because he didn’t know that:

**–An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (they’ve asked us not to call it excessive celebration) could be called for players looking into the stands or pointing to the sky. Nevertheless, LSU made the plays at the end of the game and deserved to beat Georgia.

**–The Tennessee offense could get any worse than it was. Auburn, to its credit, took advantage of that.

**–Miami would bounce back from an embarrassing loss at Virginia Tech and show a lot of heart to beat banged-up Oklahoma. Randy Shannon’s team is looking at 11-1.

**–Florida State’s football program could become more dysfunctional than it already was and lose on the road to Boston College.

**–Clemson could lose to a 1-3 Maryland team whose only win was against James Madison (38-35) in overtime.

That leaves us at 35-15 after five weeks. We’ll hope to do better this time out.

1. Georgia Tech at Florida State: If I’m Paul Johnson, I am concerned about what I will find when I get to Tallahassee. The Seminoles are going to rally and play great or they are going to go completely in the tank. I think Florida State will play hard but the truth is Georgia Tech is a better team. Georgia Tech 28, Florida State 24.

2. Georgia at Tennessee: After watching Georgia struggle to run the ball against LSU, it’s pretty clear what Monte Kiffin, the Tennessee DC, will do. He’ll stuff the run and bet that Georgia QB Joe Cox and WR A.J. Green can’t beat him. Georgia will speed up the tempo on offense and wear down the Tennessee defense in the second half. The Drama Dawgs win another close one. Georgia 21, Tennessee 17.

3. Florida at LSU: I’m not a doctor and I don’t play one on TV. But I’m here to tell you that Florida wins if  Tim Tebow plays. Florida also wins if Tim Tebow doesn’t play. It’s called defense and Florida has a great one. It will be a classic. Florida 17, LSU 14.

4. Auburn at Arkansas: Auburn showed me a lot by winning at Tennessee. Now the Tigers will be in a track meet in Fayetteville. Somebody in this game is going to have to make a defensive stop. Auburn has a better chance of doing it. Auburn 42, Arkansas 35.

5. Alabama at Ole Miss: Everybody is telling me what a great game this is going to be. I don’t see it. Alabama can beat you so many ways. They can grind it out. They can hit the big play. Jevan Snead, the Ole Miss quarterback, really struggled against a very good defense from South Carolina. Alabama’s defense is better. Alabama 28, Ole Miss 10.

6. Kentucky at South Carolina: The Wildcats will be without star cornerback Trevard Lindley which means they will have a greener than grass secondary. Do you think Coach Spurrier will want Stephen Garcia to take a few shots down the field? Gamecocks go to Alabama next week at 5-1. South Carolina 31, Kentucky 13.

7. Houston at Mississippi State: All I know is that Georgia Tech’s Josh Nesbitt, not know as a passer, threw for a career-high 266 yards against Mississippi State.  So what does that mean for Houston’s Case Keenum, who is completing 68 percent of his passes for 424 yards per game?  Houston 42, Mississippi State 31.

8. Boston College at Virginia Tech: The Hokies need to be careful not to look ahead too much to next week’s big trip to Georgia Tech. Boston College is struggling on offense but the Eagles are 4-1. If Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor keeps playing well, the Hokies are going to be hard to beat. Virginia Tech 24, Boston College 14.

9. Michigan at Iowa: Iowa (5-0) might be the best team in the Big Ten but I will wait until the Hawkeyes play at Ohio State on Nov. 14 to make that judgment. Michigan lost a heartbreaker (26-20) in overtime at Michigan State last week and has the kind of spread offense that gives Iowa trouble. I still like the Hawkeyes. Iowa 21, Michigan 17.

10. Oregon at UCLA: The Ducks (4-1) have rebounded nicely after losing the opener to Boise State and have beaten California (42-3) and Washington State (52-6) in their last two outings. But Oregon may be without quarterback Jeremiah Masoli (knee). Nate Costa gets his first career start. Ducks win anyway. Oregon 31, UCLA 24.

As a Tech alum, it pains me to say this, but Tech’s defense couldn’t stop a grandma at a traffic light. FSU 35, Tech 28.

mightyKC, my car was keyed one year and my father’s driver’s side door was kicked in a few years later. We parked just down from the stadium on University Avenue.

We each have our share of fans that are poor sports and so does every other school.

Geaux Tigers!

I’m taking the Tigers 28-17 and here’s why:
- The Tigers are at home
- Tebow won’t be playing
- Tigers have momentum and confidence
- It’s time for a breakout game from LSU!

Looks like everyone except Rufus has Tech winning. I hope the players don’t play the game in this blog. I’ll say Tech gets up a couple of touchdowns and then blows the lead in the 4th a la Clemson without the happy ending. 28-31 FSU…but I hope that doesn’t happen.

wheelz- you forgot the most important factor in your “analysis”
-The Tigers are NOT good. It doesn’t matter when or where they play. They were overrated going into a game with a very average Georgia team and squeaked out a victory. They are still overrated and Tebow, Brantley, Kerwin Bell, or whoever lines up behind center for UF will win HANDILY.

Dawgs win, Tech loses cause they are not playing Mississippi State or Jacksonville State, or some other nursing home. Simple Dawg it is easy to line up incorrectly on a kickoff when you don’t line up. It was the old break from the huddle quick type kick that they were running and the ball was kicked from the right hash. Curran just went on the left side of the kicker cause that’s where his lane is.

Miss st nearly beat lsu. miss st turned the ball over 4 times. lsu 0. they lost in a goal line stand by 4. so you make yourself look very ignorant with comments like that dawgfan.

oh and miss st. they are favored by 2 over houston? who is houston you ask? they beat ok state @ ok state a few weeks ago. something your team couldn’t do.

Don, my hat is off to Mississippi State. I, for one, thought LSU was thru. However, the legend of the LSU defense was reborn. UGA was all LSU could handle, but we know how that came out. What I like about this Tiger team, is that they are learning, and the coaches are learning. I think we may see more or R. Randal and less of Russell sheppart, but neither one of them knows the play book yet. The thing about the LSU Tigers, is that they seem to believe in themselves, no matter how wet the field (Washington, Vandy, MS State, and perhaps Florida–50% chance). The season is only now entering the 2nd half, and the best is yet to come.

Go Tigers, whip up on the blessed Gators.

UGA is not as good as normally are, however, they are not on UT’s level yet. They should have won last week. Talent is much better at UGA. We are just young. Youth not talent might keep UT in it for a while. Confident of a win this weekend.

Georgia’s poor defense can’t hold Tennessee to 17 this week in Knoxville. Florida wins by a little bigger margin than that too, I don’t think LSU scores 14 unless they make a complete turn around from their first 5 games, which won’t happen because they are not a good team.

Excessive celebration. Tony and Ga can cry all day about that call, but so be it.
Remember the Florida Ga game 2 years ago?. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Ga rush the end zone after the first touchdown? Snubbed their noses at the officials and the whole world and didn’t give a damn who saw it. Then M Richt acted like he didn’t know a thing about but didn’t try to slow them down. My point is you can’t have it both ways or you look like an idiot. Tony I will call you out every time you do the homer thing. By the way, anybody can pick early cupcake games.

Looks like we might be back at 4-1 here pretty soon. Dez Bryant was caught lying to the NCAA. You can do a lot of things to the NCAA but I don’t think lying is anything they take too kindly to.

David, that was two years ago. Everybody needs to get over it. Besides Richt didn’t want to waste two time outs that early in the game.

Rocky, I have excepted it dumba$$. I was being facetious. Look it up in Webster’s if you don’t know what it means. Regarding the LSU game, sure that call was a crock. But there were many other bad calls in that game that no one seems to bring up, the only problem with those calls though is that Mike Bobo made them.

I think Tech’s offense runs wild again. Bama plays its typical smashmouth football. UGA finds an identity, Washaun lives up to the #24 tradition and Marlon will have us all thanking his Grandmother.
Auburn makes Bobby wish he could have coached there. Like Georgia LSU’s offense finds traction and the D gets to Brantley on a regular basis. Comes down to special teams with Holliday having a big game.

Who gets the gold? Well, in sports as in life, it all comes down to no guts, no glory. And yes, you are right Mr. Barnhardt, the UF-LSU showdown should be a classic. In the end though, you will see why Tim Tebow will go down as the greatest college football player of our time.
I always thought I would never pick anyone over Herschel, but Tebow is a once-in-a-lifetime type guy, and could actually will his team to a victory even if he doesn’t play!! It’s not only the tangibles, but the intangibles that you must take into consideration. Tebow has both, and is a player we should all enjoy as he makes his final lap around the SEC. Regardless of who your fav. team is, you know deep down that your $$ goes on Tebow and the Gators. This game might be more hyped than the SEC game against Bama last yr., and I don’t think any of us will be disappointed!!

Go Gators!!

Regarding the Dez Bryant fiasco and UGA’s loss to OKST. My understanding is that even if OKST has to vacate those wins (and I don’t think that has been decided yet or not), the losing team still has the loss on their record yet the win just disappears from OKST win column.
