Georgia nips LSU; Jackets win on the road

September of 2009 will be remembered as the month that teams couldn’t stand to be loved. Give a team some love, show them some respect, and they will promptly go in the tank for you. So many examples:

Ole Miss: I told everybody in the preseason I wasn’t on the Ole Miss bandwagon. But I didn’t expect the Rebels to go to Columbia and be overwhelmed. They dropped from No. 4 to No. 21 in the AP poll.

California:  The Bears have the best running back in the country in Jahvid Best and were thought to have a shot at their first Rose Bowl in 50 years. They rose to No. 6 and got embarrassed by the Quack Attack from Oregon, 42-3.

Miami: How many folks said that Miami was back after the ‘Canes thumped Georgia Tech and jumped into the Top 10? A little rain and an angry Virginia Tech defensive line changed all that up in Blacksburg. Now Miami looks average again.

Penn State: They were talking BCS championship when Joe Pa and the boys started 3-0 against Creampuff U. Iowa went into State College and proceeded to smack the Nittany Lions in the mouth.

In all we’ve had nine teams ranked in the Top 10 lose in September. Wow.

We went 7-3 in the picks last week because we believed in Miami, Penn State, and Clemson, which just could not finish a drive in the rain and lost to TCU at Death Valley, 14-10. That gives us a mark of 30-10 after four weeks.

Let’s get on with the Fearless Friday Forecast for the first Saturday in October:

1. LSU at Georgia: LSU is 4-0 and ranked No. 4 in the nation. The Tigers are also a three-point underdog at Sanford Stadium. Why? Because we have no idea how good LSU is. The Tigers, who were held to 30 yards on the ground by Mississippi State, are ranked 74th nationally in rushing. Coach Les Miles does not like that and vows to stick with the running game against Georgia. But the fact is Georgia has proven very vulnerable to the pass. The bottom line is this: If Georgia can stay under its average for turnovers (3 per game) and penalties (10 per game) the Bulldogs will win. Georgia plays its best game of the season. Georgia 24, LSU 20.

2. Georgia Tech at Mississippi State: Last year Georgia Tech had over 400 yards rushing against the Bulldogs. Expect Mississippi State to be better on defense under veteran DC Carl Torbush. But I’m wondering how much fire the Bulldogs have after the heartbreaking loss to LSU. If Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt plays well again, the Yellow Jackets can get it done in Starkville. Georgia Tech 35, Miss. State 24.

3. Auburn at Tennessee: Auburn is No. 3 in the nation in total offense (526.25 ypg). Quarterback Chris Todd has nine touchdown passes in his last two games. But Auburn has not played away from Jordan-Hare Stadium this season and life on the road in the SEC is just different. Tennessee needs this one to avoid an 0-2 start in the SEC with Georgia coming up this week. If quarterback Jonathan Crompton doesn’t turn it over, and that’s a BIG if, the Vols find a way to win. Tennessee 21, Auburn 20.

4. Alabama at Kentucky: The Crimson Tide has improved in every game and right now may be the best team in the country. If QB Greg McElroy (7 TD, 1 INT) continues to have the hot hand, the Crimson Tide rolls and starts getting ready for next week’s trip to Ole Miss. Alabama 31, Kentucky 7.

5. Ole Miss at Vanderbilt: The last time Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead failed to throw a touchdown pass in a game was in 2008 against Vanderbilt. The Commodores intercepted Snead four times in beating the Rebels 23-17 in Oxford. So Ole Miss had better be on upset alert. I believe Houston Nutt’s team bounces back from a very difficult loss at South Carolina. Ole Miss 28, Vanderbilt 20.

6. Oklahoma at Miami: Landry Jones will start the game at quarterback for Oklahoma but no one is sure if the injured Sam Bradford will play. Oklahoma needs to win in order to stay in the national championship race. Miami wants to atone for last week’s beat down at Virginia Tech. The Sooners are too good on defense. Oklahoma 24, Miami 17.

7. Florida State at Boston College: Florida State, a.k.a Team Schizophrenia, plays a lot better away from home. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said it’s time for the Seminoles to grow up. He’s right. Florida State 24, Boston College 10.

8. Clemson at Maryland: Ralph Friedgen and the Terps (1-3) could really use some positive energy at Byrd Stadium, where attendance is starting to dwindle. Clemson has too many offensive weapons. Clemson  31, Maryland 21.

9. Southern Cal at California: Both teams have a loss in the Pac-10 so the loser goes home and forgets about the conference championship. Trojans are back in the hunt at No. 7 and are able to control Cal’s Jahvid Best. USC 28, California 24.

10. Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (at Arlington,Tex.): The Razorbacks got slapped around by Alabama (35-7) and may have lost some of their confidence. Texas A&M leads the nation in sacks with over four per game. Hogs still win. Arkansas 31, Texas A&M 27.

You mean you are picking Tech to beat a sec team on the road?? A team that played #4 lswho to basically an even game?? I wonder why you are picking the ACC team over the sec team?? Oh I know…in your heart of hearts you know the sec SUCKS this year. Good call.

Tony, does it occur to you that a lot of these games are not even upsets…they are just pointing how wrong the polls (that you worship) are? Get human opinion out of college football.

The best running back in the nation is Johnathan Dwyer.

Miami will beat oklaHOMO.

The sec is made up of alabammer and floriduh and the 10 dwarfs. lswho and ugag both suck….there will be a lot of sucking Saturday afternoon at the Cesspool at sanford and son stadium.

The ACC beat the sec 6 out of 10 in the regular season last year. The ACC will beat the sec 4 out of 7 this year. Why?? Because the ACC is a lot better than you give them credit for and the sec is a LOT worse…. a LOT worse.

Tony you are wrong almost as often as the polls are wrong. Mr. College football, my arse.

The vowels D is stout, played the hell out of UF, and will come to play against AU’s powerful O. AU needs to step up on its special teams (not letting the other team start at the 35-45 will greatly help) and its D needs to make tackles on first contact, not after the offensive player has bounced off 3 or 4 defenders first. AU will correct those problems on D & special teams and seems to be balanced enough to “take what the D gives them” and still score… hopefully at least 1 more than UT.

m, you just can’t stand hearing what the entire nation knows. The ACC is mid tier or lower. They’ll throw in the occassional surprise, but there will still only be 17,000 people at the ACC Championship game, the Comedy Channel will be broadcasting it and the only reason the ACC Champion will go to a BCS Bowl is because of the contract. Meanwhile the SEC Champioship game will set more attendance records, networks will sell their souls to broadcast it, Florida will win the National Championship and the SEC will go 9-1 in it’s bowls. So just sit down, shaddup and turn on the SciFi Channel, wudha?

m the idiot brags about beating SEC bottom feeders. Maybe we should schedule Duke, UVA and Maryland and brag about being 3-0 vs ACC.

Thing is we don’t need to because we play a real football schedule already. since we have beaten Tech 7 out of 8 and 30 something out of the last 40 something, maybe we should drop them from our schedule to upgrade the OOC schedule. Playing ACC teams, when the ACC is so poor, only downgrades our SOS.

Well here we are in week 5 and we still don’t really know about a lot of teams.

LSU at UGA: Don’t bet on this one. The most overrated team in the SEC plays the most undisciplined team in the SEC. Most people are saying the dawgs will win, that includes Vegas who gave says we’ll win by 3. Whaaat!? So the #18 team is favored over the #4 team by 3 huh. Unfortunately I’ve channeled my inner Munsonism and I’m just not feeling it for the dawgs. We have had 4 games to try to turn around mistakes in penalties and turnovers. It hasn’t happend and I see no reason to think that will change right now. The dawgs can get by lesser teams playing sloppy football, but that wont cut it when they face teams of equal athletic talent. LSU is equal. I say the dawgs lose this one.

Auburn at Tennessee: I wouldn’t touch this one betting wise either. Auburn has been on a roll and really racking up the offensive stats. But they’ve been doing against no one and really have only beaten West Virginia. They barely did that and the jury is still out on WVU. UT doesn’t have a QB. But they do have a good running game and a fantastic D. This one is a coin flip to me. But I’m going to say UT get’s the upset because of two things. One they are at home. Two, Auburn runs a cute misdirectional offense. Those kind of offenses can be very productive. Till it runs up against a good solid defense. Then it can get blown up. That said, if Auburn can pull out a win here than watch out in the SEC west. But I think UT will pull it out.

Georgia Tech at Miss St: ACC vs SEC. Only it’s one of the better ACC teams vs SEC bottom feeder. Last year Tech destroyed MSU. Last week MSU almost beat LSU, but had a huge let down as they couldn’t get in the endzone with 4 short tries. MSU will get better under new coach Dan Mullen, but not yet. Tech runs all over them.

Bama at Kentucky: Ha! Bama is giving the cheerleaders playing time by the 2nd half.

Oklahoma at Miami: Awesome out of conference game on paper. But Oklahoma smashes Miami. Miami is just too young and Oklahoma brings in a pretty good defense for a Big 12 team.

USC at Cal: Both had huge upsets and lost games they were not supposed to lose. Cal’s was last week. Eh…USC probably has the horses to stop Cal’s running game. Don’t bet against Carrol’s boys in big games. USC wins this and ESPN becomes the USC backup QB battle show again.

Arkansas vs Texas A&M: Interesting out of conference matchup. Middle of the road Big 12 plays middle of the road SEC. Arkansas lost a close one against UGA, and then lost huge to Bama. I don’t know too much about Texas A&M. I’ll say Petrino gets his hogs back on track and go with the SEC on this one. This is honestly a guess though.

I’ll be watching two games this weekend, UGA-LSU and Oklahoma – Miami. I’ll be mildly interested in AU-TN more out of curiosity. I expect all three to be good, hard-hitting affairs. So glad football is back in our lives.

As a Gator, I’m hoping UGA gives LSU a brutal, physical game and wears them down some. Probably pull for LSU just so they don’t come back home w/ something to prove and maybe get a big head. Definitely a stretch I know, but is probably what tips me to the LSU side in this 50-50 match-up. Well, that and having lived in Atlanta and worked with/around what I consider the minority of the Dawg fanbase. My disdain is going back to healthy rival levels, but I suspect I’ve got a few more years of detox here in football purgatory (ACC country) before I lose the extra animosity towards the Dawgs. All in all, I expect it to be a great game and look forward to watching a lot of the great players on both teams duke it out.

I found this interesting. One because I didn’t know Miss Cleo was on here guaranteeing the future; I’d like some Lotto numbers as well please.

Two, the ACC currently stands at 0-2 (funny how this isn’t ever mentioned) meaning they can only lose one of the remaining matchups left all season to hit this guaranteed mark. Looking at the remaining games, do you only see one more loss?

GaTech – MSU
GaTech – Vandy

Tech will win all three of their games against the sec bottom feeders and clemson (as usual) will stomp a mudhole in their in-state sec bottom feeder.

Their is a possibility that fsu will lose to floriduh but that still makes 4 out of 7.

If the sec was anywhere near as good as these sec idiots try to claim, the sec would win all 7. But they won’t.

And don’t fret over the Acc being 0-2 with the sec so far this year because they did the same thing last year and ended up 6-4 with the overrated bottom feeding sec.

Big Tone, as bad as I want to say UGA is going to get it together and finally impress, I am hesitant to say it plus the fact it be online for everyone to see. After all, I have been predicting (unsuccessfully) this for 4 weeks. What will make this week any different? I’m thinking we are just a jinked team with penalties and stupid coaching decisions(see poch kick).

I think it’s as simple as this…If we don’t get pressure on the qb we will lose. Sweet Willie usually struggles with a running qb so I am definitely nervous. However I am excited about the opportunity and I will be in the stands yelling my ass off and yes Gov Perdue, I will be rowdy again this week. If you don’t like it stay at the house.

If the answer is yes, then does that mean the South Division of the Colonial Athletic Assocation (CAA) is on par/equal with the ACC? You know, since they’re 2-2 when matched up head to head. What about the Sun-Belt? They’re 1-1.

Can’t have it both ways. If the dregs of the ACC don’t represent the conference as a whole, then 2 Tech wins against the bottom SEC squads don’t amount to much.

Georgia’s dropped punts, kickoffs, and rb funbles wont continue forever. Young players in pressure spots have hurt the dawgs so far. It wont continue forever. Hopefully they are battle tested enough to get over that this week. I think LSU’s roll of luck in games is going to end this weekend. They wont get the same breaks they got last weekend.

There’s something called variables, like home field advantage, injuries, referees, etc.. In the NFL they call it parity and it’s starting to show in the SEC (and other conferences but NOT THE ACC) where any team can win on any day. People like m don’t understand that Ole Miss’ early ranking and Miss St. almost beating LSU says more GOOD things about the conference than BAD. You wont see this is the Almost Competitive Conference because there is No chance that teams like Duke, NC State, Maryland, BC, and the rest of the slackers can really win on any given day against the top tier of the Almost Competitive Conference.

You obviously don’t follow teams other than your own because if you did, you would know that parity has been a staple in the acc for the past 4 seasons.
And your argument really makes no sense. It’s simple logic what I put out there. Apparenly you can’t comprehend something so simple. Again, IF gt beats Miss st, and lsu beats ga, no dawg should be talking any trash. Miss st had 4, that’s FOUR, turnovers against LSU and still almost won. LSU had 0, ZERO turnovers. This far into the season you can make judgements like this. It’s not week 1-3 anymore. So again, if GT wins and lsu wins, then you can also conclude that the accs top teams, va tech, miami, gt, clemson, etc are on the same page and in some cases better than the ga’s, lsus and auburns. bama and fla are obviously better.

There’s no parity in the ACC, it’s bad teams that beat each other thrown in with a few who can’t beat anyone. There IS a difference. When Duke, NC State, BC, UVA, Maryland have programs worth talking about, come see me. There are TWO, count them, TWO schools in MISSISSIPPI (of all places) getting national attention. One was ranked in the top five and lost to a good SC team and the other almost beat LSU when they were ranked top 10. There are FOUR, count them, FOUR schools in the state of North Carolina in the ACC and not even one of them is worth mentioning. Where’s your parity now?

First off, the reason so many Top 10 teams have lost is because they didn’t deserve to be in the Top 10 to begin with. Just proves once again that preseason polls and those who vote in them are idiotic.

To keep with the theme, here are my idiotic picks :-)

1. Georgia’s discipline problems (aka penalties) will kill them this weekend as LSU wins a close one.

2. If it were played in Atlanta, I’d pick Georgia Tech hands down. However, the sheer boredom that clouds the tiny town of Starkville will lull the Jackets into a loss on the road.

3. Tennessee’s defense will keep the score down which should make it manageable for their “quarterback” (yes, sarcastic quotation marks intended) to fall a$$ backwards into a victory.

4. UPSET ALERT!!! The over-hype bug bites Bama in their houndstooth jockies as Kentucky pulls the upset in a last second field goal. It’s just that type of season this year.

5. Simply put, Ole Miss won’t recover. Vandy wins and Ole Miss reassembles their fouton in the SEC basement.

6. Defense?? In the Big 12??? Surely you jest. Miami bounces back and wins by 4.

7. FSU and Boston College. I can’t believe this game is actually going to be televised. FSU calls heads…..it’s heads so I’ll pick them to win an ugly one.

8. Clemson is bad, but Maryland is worse. Clemson wins.

9. This one’s actually tough. USC should be the easy pick; however I’m going with Cal on this one. The dynasty ends on Saturday.

10. Arkansas proved that it can score when there’s no defense (ala Georgia). And since we’re talking about another Big 12 team, I’ll take Arkansas for a 10 point win.

“m”….I’ve come to the conclusion that of all of the idiot Tech fans that frequent these boards you are the most ignorant. You are calling the SEC Alabama and Florida and a bunch of bottomfeeders? Have you taken a look at your conference lately?!?

FSU gets beat at home by South Florida and had to come from behind to beat Jacksonville St. in the 4th quarter. There will be nothing left of that program when Florida is done with them.

Clem’sSons got beat by TCU….the same Clemson team that Yech come all around getting beat by.

Virginia got beat by William and Freakin Mary

UNC was suppose to be a contender…pffft

NC St….uh…SC beat them in game one, remember? Yeah, that’s SC of the SEC.

Tech got squashed by Miami and all of the sudden it looked like the ACC had a REAL team….NOT…the Canes got turned into a tropical DEPRESSION by VT.

So that leaves VT as the only team with a pulse in the entire pathetic conference. Yeah, that’s the same team that Alabama trashed in the opening game of the season.

No way the ACC will ever match up to the SEC. They will win a game or two every 6 or 7 years, just like Tech will beat UGA every 6 or 7 years if you are lucky enough, like last season, to catch us with half of our team injured. The ACC is the most pathetic conference in the land….just admit it man.

m,

You’re right, I’m clearly missing the point “so bad”. Please explain it to me.

You bring up the reg. season record (and only the reg. season) to show the SEC sucks, but the ACC’s record against the Colonial South and Sun Belt aren’t the point and don’t reflect on the ACC.

You bring up that the eventual “NATIONAL CHAMPION” came from the SEC and was only beat all season by an SEC squad, and that somehow is a black-eye to the SEC. Didn’t a couple ACC squads get a shot at UF, one at home?

You bring up Vandy losing at home to Duke, but Vandy beating division winner Boston College doesn’t matter because it’s in the bowl game which apparently doesn’t count.

You bring up #1 ranked UGA (which they weren’t at the time) losing to Tech, but then Tech losing in Atlanta to a bad SEC team from last year isn’t the point.

Seems to me that if something isn’t convenient or a question you want to respond to, then it’s not ‘the point.’ Please help me understand.

Leave m alone. It’s simple.

- First you take Tech’s record against Miss St. and Vanderbilt and divide it by the present value of 5 wins against the SEC over the next 10 years.
- Then you take the derivative of the 2-2 record against the CAA South which at a 95% confidence level is greater than the 1-1 record against the SunBelt.

- After that you multiply the plays Tech’s best D lineman sits on the bench by the amount of Heisman votes Dwyer will get
- You take all those results to the power of 2, then divide each one by the 6-4 record against the SEC last year (since the bowl season didn’t happen and everyone knows you can’t divide by zero)
- Take each result, plug it into the quadratic equation, calculate the load created by 20,000 empty seats at a Tech game (or ACC Champ. game since they’re equivalent) and multiply all that by three and you’re left w/ the very simple equation.

Berry has played a bunch of roam so far in 2009 and QB’s audible away from him every chance they get. This week he’s again, everywhere. Hardesty, Brown, Oku rush for over 200 yds total. i have come to the conclusion that there must be multiple people calling themselves m and having a contest among themselves to see who can post the dumbest crap…and honestly, one m was annoying enough.

btw, why abuse tony b for his picks? he’s predicting outcomes to the best of his ability…is there some sort of test of manhood in which a pick is respected only if it is an upset? tony’s just telling us who he thinks will win and why. he & schultz agree on tech & disagree on the dogs, so it will be interesting to see who is right on that one.

if you want an upset special, i would go with vandy over old miss. good luck tomorrow, doggies, see you on the flats in november.

First time posting on here… just had to respond to m the idiot from the North Ave. Trade school.

Rivalries are a great tradition in college football. As a lifelong Atlantan and UGA fan, I’ve always pulled for GT except against the Dogs and SEC teams. m has neither the class nor intelligence to realize that belittling your competition also lowers your own standing. To call Athens a cesspool or make fun of Sanford Stadium is simply ignorant. Athens is truly a “classic” college town and Sanford has to be a Top Ten facility. The best thing GT’s stadium has going is the skyline. When I was a kid I went to games at both schools… Sanford had tradition – The Hedges, the train tracks (still remember chants of Go To Hell Grehound! when a visitor’s bus parked between the tracks and field), the grass banks in the corners, and UGA, the best mascot in college football. GT had Techwwod homes… nothing like tailgating in the projects… Grant Field looked like the stadium from “The Longest Yard” w/ Burt… and an antique car.. OK the car is kinda cool.

The UGA/GT rivalry is great… but it is one of 4 for UGA that are larger than any GT rivals… UF, Auburn, and UT are all huge… hell, even UGA/Clemson has more history than GT/Clem… I’ll take our tradition hands down… maybe GT should get back to playing ND regularly.

I don’t always agree with Tony, but respect his opinions. He may be a UGA man at heart, but he has way too much national credibility and exposure to be written off as a “homer”.

As for the picks… I think UGA beats the Bayou Bungles… home field adv. will be huge… glorious Fall weather, big recruiting presence, and The Dawgs right the ship just enough… and will prob. lose at UT next… be interesting to see what their O does vs. Aub… and Eric Berry is a BEAST.

As for GT/Miss ST.? Who cares? “Bottom feeding SEC” against bottom feeding ACC… I’m just hoping Starkville police throw “m” in Johnny Cash’s old jail cell… oh, and lose the key.

Did you guys hear doginlace call georgie a bottom feeder?

UGA-LSU- I think the dawgs put it all together and win by 2 scores or perhaps even more.

Tech-MSU- Tech wins again but it will be closer than you think

Auburn-UT- This should be the most entertaining game of the day but I think Auburn wins by 7-10. The difference ends up being that Auburn gets demonstrably better qb play and that will be the difference.

Bama-UK- Closer than you think but nobody really cares outside of us Bama and UK fans

Ole Miss-Vandy- With all the practice time missed in the week before due to the flu(19 players affected) Ole Miss was completely out of syn against USCe. They rebound, get it together, and win handily over Vandy.

FSU-BC CLEMSON-MD- Just like Bama-UK nobody really cares much except the fans of these teams

USC-CAL- Cal got a case of looking ahead last week vs Oregon and got blasted. This is the most up and down team I’ve ever seen over the last 5 years. They get up and give USC a game but USC ultimately wins a close one. Should be a great game.

Ark-Texas A&M- Ark is better than people give them credit for. Petrino said they lost to Bama primarily because his team didn’t feel like they could win to begin with and it became a self fulfilling prophecy. Mallett had an uncharacteristically bad game against Bama and his receivers didn’t help with numerous dropped passes. They looked a little out of syn. I’m hoping Ark gets their confidence back and gets it together enough to beat A&M. I think they do.

Sometimes I get tired of all the Tebow hype but the college game this year wouldn’t be the same without him.

Also, a blow to the back of the head especially near the base of the skull is particularly dangerous. Far more harmful than being hit in the front, side, or top of the head. There is a reason why in boxing, UFC, etc you cannot hit to the back of the head and will get either penalized or disqualified. It can kill someone.

Coach Smith, I agree with your assesment. You bring up a point that is too often overlooked. UGA has been challenged and has shown improvement every week in my opinion. They are beginning to look like they are much better than expected. I think the first loss was a fluke due to Cox’s illness. He has looked good in every other game and had he been well UGA would be 4-0 and in the top 10 easy.

coach smith

October 2nd, 2009

Gatorzone

you are right, I think that toughness, mental toughness and resiliency are overlooked too often

Take week 2

UGA and Cox had been dogged in the media all week and they come out and are down 17-7 in a blink to SC and they come back and win

Week 3, UGA is down 21-10 before the end of the first quarter on the road against a team that had an off week before and had admittedly been preparing for Georgia all offseason and UGA comes back and wins

Then they play a rested AZST team (who had a bye already) and things unravel late but they shake it off and come up big and win the game

If LSU can’t run the ball (30yards last week) the game won’t be close (UGA 30-13) if they can then it will be like last year UGA 52 LSU 38

Why do you guys say bama “stomped” VT?? VT was leading going into the fourth quarter and was in the game the entire time…unlike most of the SEC teams bama will play this year. VT had no offense at all and still hung tough. If Bama and VT played this week I think VT would have a way better chance because Tyrod Taylor is finally finding his receivers. As an outside observer the ACC is not a great conference…but seriously the SEC is not that far ahead. Bama and UF are great teams but the rest of the conference is not playing at any level close to them…thats why UF and Bama are stomping the SEC opponents worse than some of the FCS schools they faced. FIU scored more than arkansas on bama….and UF could have scored 80 on UK if they didnt take the foot of the gas and if tebow didnt get hurt. Its a two team conference…unlike the ACC which has 4 or 5 above average to good teams….

GT(3-1), Miami(3-1), UNC(3-1), NC State(3-1), Clemson(2-2). All those teams are above average to good teams. None of those teams are great but they are above average. GT has played two ranked opponents and is 1-1, Miami is 2-1 versus ranked opponents, UNC is still a good team despite the GT loss, Clemson had a tough schedule but has a D that will win some games for them. “The SEC has lapped the field so far this season in nonconference play.

Through the first month of the season, the SEC sports an 18-2 record in nonconference games against FBS opponents, which is far and away the best record of any conference.

Here’s how all the BCS conferences stack up to this point: SEC 18-2 (.900), Pac-10 15-7 (.682), Big 12 23-11 (.676), Big Ten 18-9 (.667), Big East 13-7 (.650) and ACC 10-11 (.476).”

how is 8-4 not above average? Half of the SEC, ACC, big east, or whatever conference would love to be 8-4. Only two or three teams a year are usually 8-4 or better in a given conference in a given year. Now 8-4 might not be average to a fan of UF, LSU, or UGA because of the 9-3, 10-2 season of late but ask vandy, arkansas, auburn, Tennessee, kentucky, or south carolina if 8-4 is above average because all of those teams were below 8-4 last year. We’ll see how the backpedaling starts once it gets closer to November, the ACC has again lost its relevance (Virginia Tech included), and the SEC Championship game again determines the national champion.

Here’s how all the BCS conferences stack up to this point: SEC 18-2 (.900), Pac-10 15-7 (.682), Big 12 23-11 (.676), Big Ten 18-9 (.667), Big East 13-7 (.650) and ACC 10-11 (.476).”

Give them a minute. they will come up with some excuse shortly. They dont like hearing the SEC is the best even though it is pretty much a universally accepted fact right now. May not be the case in 10 years but right now the SEC is basically the minor leagues for the NFL.

Bottom line South Carolina would be a major player in the ACC. In the SEC they have almost no chance.

Again SEC = Florida/Bama and the pips

I have never seen MEN relying on the rep of other men when you have done NOTHING….. It is quite laughable. Only fans of Bama and Florida and maybe LSU can come on here and talk about how tough the SEC is because everyone after that is just average

UGA, USC east, Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Tenn, and Ark have no right to claim how ‘tough’ the SEC is

Oh and South Carolina would be a ‘major player’ in the ACC? Ok, so explain how a CONSISTENTLY underachieving Clemson has OWNED S carolina? Since 2001, Clemson has finished the season with at least 4 loss but somehow S Carolina has only been able to beat Clemson twice???

Tony, I like most of your picks but I must disagree with AU pick. Cromptom not making mistakes, like Coach Green said at Arizona, “he was what we thought he was!” Against any SEC or good defense, he is a turnover machine. I just hope after this game for Auburn (since most people are picking TN just like they picked WVU and La Tech over Auburn) people might start believing they are for real. I think Auburn is a more diverse offense than Fla too since they aren’t relying on one guy like Tebow.

Miss. State proved to themselves they could play good ball last week (I actually picked them to upset LSU and was wrong by 1 foot). They are playing for REVENGE & WITH CONFIDENCE against GT. I think this will be a Smashmouth Game with Miss. State on top.

Side Bar: Alot of Gator Chat on Dawg Blogs lately – I smell fear coming out of Gainesville. Gator Fans began this season with confidence in victory. Now they approach games with fear of losing. Same thing happend a couple of years ago when we finally beat ‘em.

Sure… The SEC only has 2 NC caliber teams this year, but the ‘rest of the conference’ can play with the ‘rest of any other conference’ out there.

No premiere team in any other conference faces the threat of an upset week in and week out like the top tier of the SEC does.

Here’s how they go.

UGA beats LSU 35-31.
UGA jumps ahead early but has to hang on late. This in no way means that UGA is stellar because LSU is extremely overrated.

GT beats MSU 31-14
Tech is to good for the home field advantage to matter. This score contigent on Scott Blair actually making a field goal. Cow-bells be damned.

UT beats AU 21-17
Auburn has yet to play a good team. UT defense looks to be to much.

Alabama beats UK
Do I even need to elaborate?

Ole Miss beats Vandy 28-10
Rebs bounce back and Vandy is overwhelmed but scores a late touchdown to save a little face.

Oklahoma beats “The U” 42-35
No pass defense in this one. I take the over.

Florida State beats BC 35-10
If pattern holds true FSU plays great this weekend and looks awful against GT next weekend at home.

Cal beats USC 24-17
This is based soley on Cal wanting to bounce back after last week and I just dont think USC’s offense is that great.

After Georgia destroyed Georgia Tech 7 years in a row with scores like 51-7, let them gloat in their big 3 point win. We all know it was a fluke, and the little bees are ready to be slapped into their yearly submissive hives again. Come on Dawg fans, let them enjoy the biggest victory in their history. It has to be embarrasing enough to admit they are yellow jackets instead of a regular bee. Maybe the Dawgs will run off 14 in a row this time, I wouldn’t bet against it.

My God, All the whackos jumped on this one! I said it yesterday, and I will say it again today: Ga. 34 LSU 24. That said , playing , and , winning in college football, aside from raw talent is mostly between the ears. Many teams have not yet decided who they are. Last year Tech got a new coach bought in to what he was teaching and had a pretty darn good year, this year they are not quite sure how good they want to be. Same is true of Ga. the difference between the two though is I see no fear in the BullDogs thats why they win Sat. and Tech does not. Both Ga. and Tech are rebuilding and both will go on a big run when they get the snakes out of their heads. Personally I think that would be pretty cool to have both programs peak at the same time, and then watch my Dogs beat the crap out of Tech at the end of the year. GO DOGS, I SAID ,……..GO YOU HAIRY DOGS!

m, give it a rest. Every time an SEC school has been selected to play in the BCS Championship game, the SEC school team won. Auburn would have won the year it was shut out. You know it.

Tech will never be an elite program. You need to accept that and move on. I rather enjoy your needling the Georgia faithful here, but expanding that to cover the entire SEC destroys your credibility.

Florida will win its second straight and 3rd out of 4 BCS NCs this year.
One of the reasons Florida is so good is because of the SEC.

Georgia will beat LSU today, easily.

Tony BLOWHART, sir,

UGA is 17 wins and 19 LOSSES against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams in the 8 and a half years of the Coach Richt “Coaching Staff” sir, and LSU is clearly a Top 25 Final AP Poll Team again this year.

We LOSE because LSU went and got Chief John Chavis from the vols when Coach Richt whiffed when he could have. LSU has a lot better DEFENSE than UGA. And, since we CANNOT RUN THE FOOTBALL and don’t in Week 6 now even know who our best running back is and will NOT play him, all Chief does against UGA is to stop the run and force us to pass – which is what he wants with his STRENGTH on Defense defending the pass, unlike UGA.

Fleishman, sir, respectfully, the vols suck. Auburn is clearly a lot better coached than the vols. The vols have a LOSING RECORD and are ranked Number 65 in the BCS while UGA is Number 26 and Auburn Number 17.

Get a life vols fan. The vols are NOT any thing, but loud mouths.

Try playing football while in 8 consecutive years now in the Rankings, the vols are ranked WORSE than even UGA.

And, then you come running in here telling everyone how great the vols are.

NOT.

To both of you.
