The Fearless Friday Forecast

Your Fearless Friday Forecaster went 8-2 last week because:

**–He didn’t believe that Florida State, which almost lost to Jacksonville State, could go on the road and beat BYU, which had beaten Oklahoma. Speed, baby, speed. FSU has speed.

**–He didn’t believe it was possible for USC, after winning a dramatic game at Ohio State, could lose to an unranked Pac-10 team for the fourth straight year. Oops.

He did think Georgia could beat Arkansas but he never believed that two SEC teams could be so bad on defense.

Nevertheless, your humble prognosticator stands at 20-7 after three weeks and is back for more punishment.

Let’s get on with the Forecast:

1. North Carolina at Georgia Tech: Everybody’s blaming Paul Johnson’s offense for last week’s struggle at Miami. I don’t think it’s the gun. It’s the guys who are shooting it. Right now they aren’t playing very smart. They probably need to be a little tougher, too. If Georgia Tech is going to have a good season, here is where the Jackets need to make a stand. Georgia Tech 21, North Carolina 20.

2. Arizona State at Georgia: Arizona State is 2-0 but the wins have come again Idaho State and Louisiana-Monroe. Georgia will come out flat after three straight tough games and this will be pretty ugly. But Joe Cox and A.J. Green save the day. Georgia 35, Arizona State 20.

3. Arkansas at Alabama: Remember how much time Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett had to throw last week against Georgia? Cut that time by more than half. Alabama 31, Arkansas 10.

4. Florida at Kentucky: The Gators played a little tight last week because of all the hoopla with Tennessee and Lane Kiffin. Now they relax and let their talent take over. Kentucky is better than a lot of people think. But not that good.  Florida 31, Kentucky 17.

5. LSU at Miss. State: LSU has won nine straight games against the Bulldogs, outscoring them 374-105 in the process. LSU starts opening up the playbook with Mississippi State, Georgia, and Florida coming up in the next three weeks. LSU 42, Miss. State 20.

6. Ohio at Tennessee: Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton struggles in the big games (like Florida) but he is the model of efficiency against the Western Kentuckys and Ohios of the world. The Vols have a big game with Auburn next week and will use this outing to rebuild Crompton’s confidence. Tennessee 45, Ohio 9.

7. Ball State at Auburn: A year ago Ball State was one of the most explosive teams in the country with quarterback Nate Davis. But Davis is gone and so is Coach Brady Hoke. Now the Fighting David Lettermans (his alma mater) are 0-3 with a loss to New Hampshire. Auburn rolls to 4-0 and gets ready for a trip to Tennessee. Auburn 45, Ball State 10.

8. Miami at Virginia Tech: Right now Miami has the most impressive body of work with wins over Florida State and Georgia Tech. If the Hurricanes can win at Blacksburg, where they have lost in five of their last seven trips, they will vault in the rankings. ‘Canes win it with defense.  Miami 20, Virginia Tech 17.

9. TCU at Clemson: With losses by BYU and Utah last week, TCU (2-0) has a chance to be a BCS buster if it can run the table. The Horned Frogs have yet another great defense. I just think that Clemson has too many weapons with C.J. Spiller, Kyle Parker, and Jacoby Ford. Clemson 17, TCU 14.

10. Iowa at Penn State: Iowa beat Penn State last season and knocked the Nittany Lions out of a shot at the national championship. Penn State has not been tested in two games. Iowa (3-0) has gotten better since an early scare against Northern Iowa (17-16). I just can’t see Joe Pa losing this game at home. Penn State 21, Iowa 17.

I look for Miami to solidify it’s Top 10 ranking with a big win over VT. Miami looks like a runaway train….and they’re young. Could we see an all Florida BCS title game?

Ole Miss got exposed- yet another top ranked team losing to an unranked one. What is that, 3 so far this year?

Pretty good Tony. I do think Arkansas will score more than 10 points though & would not be surprised if TCU grinds it out over Dabo.

Mississippi did not even look like a Top 25 team last night. Rebs have some big time troubles on their OL.

Go Dawgs!

The strange part about that is I don’t think last night was an upset. I thought Ole Miss would win, and I admit that was solely because of the ranking. Stupid me. Even Ole Miss’s TD looked like a high school play with the QB colliding with the RB. Ole Miss is an SEC also-ran. It’s UF, Bama, POSSIBLY LSU, and everybody else.
I’m surely not an ACC fan, but a few of those schools are starting to catch my eye. We’ll find out more about Clemson tomorrow and Miami looks awfully good, which makes FSU look better. I’ll keep a close eye on that Tech-UNC game tomorrow.

UL- Right now, I have to agree on your assessment of the SEC. IF the Dawgs D can step it up, I think they can do some damage in the SEC. That Tennessee-UGA game should be a good one. SEC Top 5 UF, Bama, Tenn, UGA, LSU….everyone else

1. Another great ACC match up. Gets me excited about Duke Virginia!! Whooo! UNC wins by 4.

2. ASU covers but loses.

3. Ark covers

4. UK covers but the JORTS nation covers.

5. LSU at MSU and MSU covers. The Tigers don’t care because like everyone at that game they will just be glad to get out of Starkville. Is there a worse game day experience? It’s like going to Dekalb Memorial or an ACC football game.

6. Ohio at Tennessee Kiffin thinks that he’s playing OSU and not Ohio. He just hopes not to lose the game by 15 touchdowns, but they manage to win anyway.

7. Fighting Lettermans=Fighting Liberals=Cut and Run Pansies AU 326 Balled St 3

8. Miami at Va Tech- hard to make fun of this one. Looking forward to it. Va Tech covers and wins

9. TCU at Clempson- TCU wins. I mean can the ACC win an out of conference game that’s not against Upper Middle Kinda South Tennessee School For Deaf Lesbian Teachers?

10. Iowa at Penn St- Is this what the Conference that can’t count is hanging its hat on this week. I think I’ll check out the Mountain West. I actually remember when the Conference that can’t Count actually counted!! Who cares?

I think UGA wins big. If you keep Joe Cox upright, he can find A.J Green. Green catches 9-10 balls for 2 TDs. UGA outmuscles Dennis Erickson’s boys and pulls away in the 3rd quarter.

The sec may be the weakest it has ever been this year.

floriduh is barely better than a pitiful tennersee team.

A very very weak south caroliner team beats overrated ole miss and coulda shoulda beat a no defense georgy team

A weak georgy team plays a weak arkysaw team.

A pitiful miss st beats vanderbilt.

Lsu looks less than stellar to luck up and beat washington.

The ses is ALL hype.

Does this mean that the Jevan Snead bandwagon has lost all it’s wheels?

I find it interesting that if JS has a bad night, announcers and writers just say he was off and it was “one of those nights.” Tebow does and it’s further proof as to why he’ll be an NFL flop.

Not sure if you guys agree, but he didn’t look good last night and didn’t appear to have that big of an arm. What do you think all his “best pro prospect in the SEC” rating is based on? Is it really the last 6 games of last season? Do the games at the beginning of the season not count?

For my money, Dexter McCluster is the best talent on that team. Followed closely by Greg Hardy when he cares. Those guys seemed to make players whenever the felt like it or their team needed them.

MGS- I found it interesting as well that he forgot FSU/USF from this list. This is the first meeting between the two schools and a game where FSU is coming off a huge win. A win this week goes a long way to prove that FSU may be able to win week in and out again. As long as Miami keeps winning, we do too. GO NOLES!

Only in Tuscaloozer do you get Nachos with cow chips. Ole Miss is a perfect example of why pre-season polls are worthless and blatantly unfair. Polls shouldn’t even be published til Oct. CharGator- dead on about Snead. That’s the first full game I saw him play and I was not impressed. The announcers even commented on his mechanics being off a coupe times (even without a ton of pressure from the SC D) and he constantly missed open receivers. I’m sure the talk on him will very quickly fizzle.

Uncle Leon watches too much ESPN. Too much slurping on Saban and Tebow. Wake up Dawg fans. We are still a pretty good team. Yeah, I said “WE” and I will say it again next week so dont freeking lecture me on how I dont play. I know that. I say we anyway cause I love the Dawgs.

WE have got freshmen playing all over the place. These kids are some ballers. When they figure out where the heck they are supposed to be on a given play and hold on to the football we are going to be right there where we want to be.

Dont listen to ESPN too much like good ol’ Unca Leon. Florida aint that much more athletic than us. We may get alot better down the stretch and suprise some folk.

Talk about softball picks..7 of these could be picked by my golden lab. Of the three that require any thought at all: My opinion differs from Mr.FB on two

1/ TCU will be too much for Clemson.
2/Miami is overrated and due for a down week..so I believe the Hokies will take this game.

3/ Im guessing Tech had one helluva practice with Johnson in a real bad mood..Tech will run over NC, back up, then run over em again..i think this one will be a romp for Tech….

not that that is a good thing :)

Today would’ve been a great opportunity to talk about a great SEC tilt tonight in SC vs. Ole Miss. (for the record, I’m picking Carolina in the upset)”

I tune in today and what do I see? 10 favorites if I’m not mistaken. Great job, MR. COLLEGE FOOTBALL. What a misnomer.
