The Fearless Friday Forecast

Your Fearless Friday Forecaster went 8-2 last week because:

**–He didn’t believe that Florida State, which almost lost to Jacksonville State, could go on the road and beat BYU, which had beaten Oklahoma. Speed, baby, speed. FSU has speed.

**–He didn’t believe it was possible for USC, after winning a dramatic game at Ohio State, could lose to an unranked Pac-10 team for the fourth straight year. Oops.

He did think Georgia could beat Arkansas but he never believed that two SEC teams could be so bad on defense.

Nevertheless, your humble prognosticator stands at 20-7 after three weeks and is back for more punishment.

Let’s get on with the Forecast:

1. North Carolina at Georgia Tech: Everybody’s blaming Paul Johnson’s offense for last week’s struggle at Miami. I don’t think it’s the gun. It’s the guys who are shooting it. Right now they aren’t playing very smart. They probably need to be a little tougher, too. If Georgia Tech is going to have a good season, here is where the Jackets need to make a stand. Georgia Tech 21, North Carolina 20.

2. Arizona State at Georgia: Arizona State is 2-0 but the wins have come again Idaho State and Louisiana-Monroe. Georgia will come out flat after three straight tough games and this will be pretty ugly. But Joe Cox and A.J. Green save the day. Georgia 35, Arizona State 20.

3. Arkansas at Alabama: Remember how much time Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett had to throw last week against Georgia? Cut that time by more than half. Alabama 31, Arkansas 10.

4. Florida at Kentucky: The Gators played a little tight last week because of all the hoopla with Tennessee and Lane Kiffin. Now they relax and let their talent take over. Kentucky is better than a lot of people think. But not that good.  Florida 31, Kentucky 17.

5. LSU at Miss. State: LSU has won nine straight games against the Bulldogs, outscoring them 374-105 in the process. LSU starts opening up the playbook with Mississippi State, Georgia, and Florida coming up in the next three weeks. LSU 42, Miss. State 20.

6. Ohio at Tennessee: Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton struggles in the big games (like Florida) but he is the model of efficiency against the Western Kentuckys and Ohios of the world. The Vols have a big game with Auburn next week and will use this outing to rebuild Crompton’s confidence. Tennessee 45, Ohio 9.

7. Ball State at Auburn: A year ago Ball State was one of the most explosive teams in the country with quarterback Nate Davis. But Davis is gone and so is Coach Brady Hoke. Now the Fighting David Lettermans (his alma mater) are 0-3 with a loss to New Hampshire. Auburn rolls to 4-0 and gets ready for a trip to Tennessee. Auburn 45, Ball State 10.

8. Miami at Virginia Tech: Right now Miami has the most impressive body of work with wins over Florida State and Georgia Tech. If the Hurricanes can win at Blacksburg, where they have lost in five of their last seven trips, they will vault in the rankings. ‘Canes win it with defense.  Miami 20, Virginia Tech 17.

9. TCU at Clemson: With losses by BYU and Utah last week, TCU (2-0) has a chance to be a BCS buster if it can run the table. The Horned Frogs have yet another great defense. I just think that Clemson has too many weapons with C.J. Spiller, Kyle Parker, and Jacoby Ford. Clemson 17, TCU 14.

10. Iowa at Penn State: Iowa beat Penn State last season and knocked the Nittany Lions out of a shot at the national championship. Penn State has not been tested in two games. Iowa (3-0) has gotten better since an early scare against Northern Iowa (17-16). I just can’t see Joe Pa losing this game at home. Penn State 21, Iowa 17.

Stupid Ga fans saying Tech would lose. Tech has a bad week. They will win 10 games and run over your crap team. And if VT beats Miami and we will beat VT, we will be back in ACC and Nat champ talks. Enjoy the rain mutts. You live well in it dirty dogs.

I picked two upsets for this week;
Miss State over LSU – I got that one wrong …………..but you’ve got to admit, NOT BY MUCH !!

The other upset I picked was Arizona State over my Dawgs. I know the spread but The Dawgs are just too unreliable and I think this will be the first team they will have played this season with a decent Defense. I hope I’m wrong on this one.

Arkansas has impressed me. They have played well.

Florida State, on the other hand, has not.

Neither has LSU nor Miami.

That doesn’t speak well for Washington, BYU, Oklahoma nor USC.

UF isn’t is good (right now anyway) as I thought they’d be and Bama is as good as I thought they’d be. It’s shaping up to be an SEC Showdown between Bama & UF. The winner plays Texas for the NC.

Florida State need to get rid of future head coach Jimbo (over-rated) Fisher. The Seminoles are in shambles with his goofy offense.

Ole Miss, Penn State, California, Miami, Florida State, North Carolina, and Washington should all drop out of the polls this week. (Especially Miami) !

Nachos,

I understand that your intention is to present a cartoon character persona on this blog, but yes, I was impressed by Arkansas. Their defense was good enough to interrupt Bama’s game plan. They were able to run on Alabama’s defense better than I thought they would. They were good enough to force the Tide to rely on big plays to win the game. I will be surprised if Arky doesn’t win some big games this year. I will also be surprised if Ole Miss turns out to be as bad as they looked on Thursday night. Houston Nutt is a good coach, but his specialty is in winning as an underdog. Neither he, nor this Ole Miss team, has yet learned how to operate in the limelight. Coach Nutt called the game in his opening statement as they came onto the field when he said that they were now in the position of being the ‘hunted’, rather than the ‘hunters’. They have too much talent to play that badly for the entire season.

Putting Boise at #5 is a joke. They beat a mediocre Oregon team that did not want to be in Idaho.

Look at the rest of Boise’s schedule:

Miami (Ohio) Won 48-0
@Fresno St. Won 51-34
@Bowling Green Won 49-14
UC Davis
@Tulsa
@Hawaii
San Jose St.
@Louisiana Tech
Idaho
@Utah St.
Nevada
New Mexico St.

This is a joke. How does this schedule merit a BSC game or a Top 10 ranking?

In week 1, Ohio State fell in the polls because they only beat Navy 31-27. It is only fair to drop Boise if they have a close win.
