Richt apparently done talking about Georgia-Florida site

Birmingham—Just wanted to check back with you with a few sights and sounds from what has been a wild and crazy session at SEC Media Days:

**–I think Mark Richt has decided that he has done enough talking about the location of the Georgia-Florida game. The contract, which has kept the game in Jacksonville since 1933 (except for 1994 and 1995) is up for renewal. In the past Richt has said that he wouldn’t mind switching up the rotation and playing the game in Athens or Atlanta.

But when Richt was asked about it today he simply said: “This is what I want to do. I want to focus on winning that game. That’s all I want to focus on when it comes to that game.”

Somebody followed up with the question: “You don’t care where it’s played?”

“I really just want to focus on trying to when that game. That’s my goal from here on in (smiling). That will be my answer from here on in.”

Expect the game to remain in Jacksonville when the new contract is signed.

**–Like him or not, you have to admit there is something different about Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. On a day when Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, Houston Nutt, and Nick Saban were in the same location, Tebow drew the largest crowd of autograph seekers here at the Wynfrey Hotel. I asked Tebow if he could believe this would be his last appearance at SEC Media Days. “No,” he said. “I can’t believe where the time has gone.”

**–Alabama coach Nick Saban told me that he is looking forward to coming back to Atlanta on Sept. 5 to play in the Chick-fil-A Classic for the second consecutive year. This time the Crimson Tide will play Virginia Tech, the ACC favorite. Both teams should be in the preseason Top 10. “Last year after we played (and beat) Clemson we had a much better understanding where we were as a football team,” Saban said. “We want to win the game. But even if we don’t, we’ll learn a lot about our team and it will get us ready for the SEC schedule.”

**–Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead dismisses the notion offered by some (this writer included) that the Rebels might have a tough time handling the love they are getting in the preseason. Ole Miss, which has never played in the SEC championship game, has been rated in a lot of top 10s in the preseason. The Sporting News has them ranked as high as No. 5. “I think it has made us work even harder to prove to those people that they are wrong,” said Snead. “It has been a long time since Ole Miss has been in this position. Now we want to take advantage of it.”

**–Why do I get the feeling that the Georgia players have a little chip on their collective shoulder? Whenever anybody brings up the departed Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, the Georgia player tighten their lips a little, wanting to prove that this team can win without No. 7 and No. 24.

“The star of our team this year is our team,” defensive tackle Jeff Owens said. “(Wide receiver) A.J. Green stands out as a star. But this year it’s all about the “team.” Everyone has to be a star to win and be successful.”

SEC Media Days will be completed on Friday.

The question I wanted to hear Tebow asked was the one after he said if he would not have gone to FL, where would he have gone and he said Bama because he loved Mike Shula and wanted to play for him. No one asked what he would have done or thought after the fired Shula after his second season…because Saban wouldn’t have been around to take the job, he would have been somewhere else.

Wouldn’t it have been GREAT if that would have played out that way and maybe Bama would have hired another great coach like Willie Martinez!

Which begs for another question to be answered…since we hear of all of these great coordinators from successful programs are always being interviewed or at least, mentioned for open Head Coaching positions…has ANYONE EVER heard of Willie Martinez’ name being brought up? Please, at this point I am sure there is a wealthy UGA Alum that will pay you to take him off out hands!

The sooner the better!

Any honest football fan would have to admit they would have loved to have TBow as their QB. What’s not to like? A Christian, humble man who is arguably the best college QB in SEC history. And, by the way, two natl championship rings.

Me, Im just glad this is his last year. I predict we will hear a lot more from TBow over the years..and not in the NFL..this guy will transcend football in his adult life.

And yes, I hate those stinkin Gators. But that doesnt change reality.

Johnny Dangerdog brings up a good point, Tony. We would enjoy your participation in this blog and it does seem that you do that less than the other guys. You’re the best..that’s why we’re here..but we would like to see some reaction from you every now and then. keep up the great work..

They also had enough to beat Rex Grossman and Co, but do you have enough to get to Atlanta?

THE SITE OF THE GA-FLA GAME IN JAX IS PROBLEMATIC AND WITH SO MUCH DISCUSSION MAY PRESENT MENTAL ISSUES FOR GA PLAYERS. THE DOME IS NOT A SATIFACTORY OPTION SINCE ATLANTA IS ALSO NOT A NEUTRAL SITE. ARGUABLY MORE FLORIDA FANS LIVE IN ATLANTA THAN IN JAX BECAUST THEY CAN’T FIND EMPLOYMENT IN FLA.ATHENS EVERY OTHER YEAR IS THE EQUALIZER.

Really shows how utterly stupid the media really is. Keep bashing UGA.. I thank God everyday we are rid of Stafford and his I attitude. Love it- the star of this years team is….OUR TEAM. Just wish most of the media could have left with Stafford

UF-UGA could not be alternated between Athens and Gainesville. The misleading stat of CMR’s record at opposing stadiums would be less impressive.

Jeff- I’m sure you hated Stafford and his attitude while he was here last year. I’m sure you were holding up signs pleading him to leave.

The SEC media is an embarrassment. Do they cover Obama in their spare time? Is the only purpose of SEC media days to find out what heathen dare not vote for Tebow as All SEC QB? Give me a break.

Not this year, now if I could just spell check a little better, I’d be less embarrassed. One thing you won’t see me do is call someone down for a typo or mispelling. I’d probably have a glaring typo in my retort.

A few seasons ago when the dowgs were winning at Jacksonville, you never heard anything about moving the games to Atlanta or athens. But now they’re getting their butts kicked season after season all you hear is “its not fair.”We want a neutral site. Bitch, bitch, bitch. Shut up and play the game. The best team will win, no mater where its played.
