heeldawg...on the one hand you say Florida is unbeatable..if so then why on the other hand will a veteran Florida team, with a mnc already under its belt suddenly lose its killer instinct and with it a couple of games? It got its killer instinct last year after Ole Miss and returns all except two tackles, a guard and Percey Harvey (compliments to Corrine Brown), so, like dawggirl, you see Florida regressing (or, as dawggirl said, digressing) with another year of experience and the loss of four players? Then how will anyone else get better?

I will NOT try to talk about the other teams' progress or lack of because I am not that familiar with them. But....LSU is loaded and has been for a long time. NO EXCUSES for last year, but think about this team with a better defense and without at least & iNT's for TD's last year!
We have All American type atheletes at every skill position in the secondary, if they are sure of their assignments, their talent will create nightmares for all oponents. Same on the D-line, you read stories on who will start, but it's only because there are several 5 star players going for the same position, and they ALL HAVE GAME EXPERIENCE!
QB is setlled, J Jefferson is THE starter and his mobility gives the threat to defenses out there that was lacking before.

LSU is scary

As for Crompton, who knows. One thing is for sure though, you cannot base anything off last years team or practices. No green jerseys this year and by all accounts this spring is the hardest in 16 years at UT.

UT should by all acounts win 8 games this year. Just look at the schedule and you've got 8 wins. Of course that's given the fact that we actually improve some and IMO, we do. Let's face it, with any type of O last year we win 7 games at the least.

One things for sure, the first 2 games are pivotal for the Vols. If we don't destroy WKU then I'll worry. And by destroy; a team coming off 5-7 and one of the worst losses in Vol history to Wyoming. If that doesn't get these guys fired up to lay the wood to WKU then all bets are off. However still, WKU should be the test to see how far these guys have come physically and mentally and UCLA will be the test of what they have to work with offensively.

Highlights so far: good play from Crompton, TB's look solid with Georgia's own Toney Williams turning heads. Secondary looks even more improved and the D-line and O-line looking better than thought. Especially at the DE position.

Tony, I am surprised that you don't remember Cramptoe's big spring last year! He is famous for looking superb in practice and then being as brittle as a kindergartener under game conditions. It's a little weird actually given the quality of the D that he practices with. Don't bet your severance check on the Vawls.

Georgia will be better. LSU will be better. Ole Miss will be better. UT will be better. Arkansas will be better. Auburn will be better. Florida will be unbeatable. Alabama is just getting started.

Will anyone be worse?

Reality check:

Georgia will be better on D, not as explosive on O, but likely more dependable overall. Good for ten wins.

The Gators will be talented but will lack that killer instinct and will lose a couple of games they should have won. They could lose the SEC if they slip in the wrong games. Still the fave for the SEC East, with Georgia second and UT a distant third. The Vols will continue to struggle at QB, and they lost a lot on defense. Vandy will be Vandy (6-6 or 7-5 tops). South Carolina will have an anemic defense to go along with that anemic Spurrier offense (kudos to SOS on the outstanding rebuilding job!). UK will bring up the rear in the East.

Ole Miss will be good. LSU may be better. They will contend for the SEC West title. Alabama will be in the hunt, as well, but the loss of JPW will be bigger than the Tide realizes. Ingram will need to become an every-down back, and I'm not sure he can do that. Auburn will be in a state of flux for a while--look for them to be about 6-6. Arkansas will be much improved on offense and still unimpressive on defense. Mississippi State is the South Carolina of the West--a graveyard of coaches. Different head coach, same results for the "fake" Bulldogs this season.

Bowl teams:

BCS: Florida
New Years' Day: Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama
Other bowls: Tennessee, maybe Auburn, maybe Arkansas, maybe Vandy, maybe South Carolina, maybe UK
Not bowling: Miss State

West Monroe LSU Fan...I agree with you, I think LSU will be greatly improved on offense this year. I can tell you this, my fellow Gators are not overlooking them and have great respect for our SEC National Champion bretherens. I really like the way "the hat" coaches his "damn fine football team" full of confidence. Will be a hell of a game up in Baton Rouge this year and I'm sure not pre-marking a "W" on that one. Gators will have to be at their best that day!
