CineSport’s Noah Coslov turns to the AJC’s Chris Vivlamore to get the latest on the possible sale and move of the Atlanta Thrashers.
May 16th, 20115:14 pm
That sure looks like a comfortable bed you’ve got back there Chris.
May 16th, 20115:22 pm
Uhhhh I mean…NOOO SAVE THE THRASHERS!!!!
May 16th, 20115:26 pm
Get the Thrashers out of Atlanta nobody cares about them, trust me
May 16th, 20115:36 pm
Nobody here cares – they dont even mention it on sports radio and 90% of the fans dont even know there is a team here. Good riddance!

Hockey is a great sport! I hope you’ll have the chance to get another team someday…if the Thrashers move to Winnipeg…
A French Canadian Friend hoping the best for your city!

Eric, you’re an idiot. You give Canadians a bad name. (mainly because you’re French, but your comments are dumb too)
Best of luck to ATL fans.

The best for our city should have been a team ran by professionals, a different location instead of a ghetto. We got anything but that and the original fans such as myself are paying for it. Don’t be fooled by all this media coverage either, they’ve been absent since 1999 as well. This was a fraudulent raw deal since day 1, even the team moniker was a joke. A brown Thrasher..the state bird..with BLUE jersey’s. These people who brought hockey here have made most of us hate the sport now by years and years of all that we’ve had to deal with, it’s much more than a normal fanbase has had to endure. You have no idea.

This is the real reason the Thrashers are leaving town. Yahoos like this. Go back to your
May 17th, 20118:24 am
The people of Atlanta don’t deserve ANY professional sports. Given the collective intelligence and IQ of Atlanta fans they should respond well to cow patty bingo.
May 17th, 201110:17 am
BUH BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now hopefully, we’ll get a good product in Phillips Arena…..like more concerts!
May 17th, 201110:18 am
The reason that the Thrashers are leaving (hopefully) is because they have sucked for 10 out of the 11 years that they have been here. If they were any good, the arena could have been in hell and people would have gone to the games.

Jay in Winnipeg,
I will not say you’re an idiot because I love you too much, man Give peace a chance!
Thanks to Penalty Box and schmeckdawg for their brilliant comments.
May 17th, 201112:41 pm
I will always love the Thrashers. No matter where they are.
May 17th, 201112:42 pm
Will any angry Thrashers Season Ticket Holders be bringing broken broom handles and cans of Crisco to introduce them to Bruce Levenson and Michael Gearon at the Select-A-Seat event on Saturday?
Won’t there be enough torches and pitchforks there already?
too many on the ICE
May 17th, 20111:05 pm
In hell they make you watch Thrashers games as punishment.
May 17th, 20111:15 pm
Since the Thrashers and media are taking shots at the fans.
The ownership group are a bunch careless idiots who have no sense. D-Wad even worse. The players: they are terrible. How can you be that bad? All of you (anyone associated with the Thrashers organization including ticket reps and ushers) get the hell out of Atlanta. The sooner the better. We can’t put up with this ignorance any longer. GO…[as to if to yell at a dog].
May 17th, 20112:13 pm
waaa i mentioned the obvious ghetto outside of philips and it hit a nerve,. waaa. are you kidding me? perhaps whiny fans should go north with them, that will at least be something good from all of this, no more whiney cry babies.
i notice the ajc has managed to barely mention the local buyers..yet every blogger they have who knows what a puck is has written about the departure.
as for the team losing, trust me, i know dim wit, i’ve been a fan since day 1, you don’t win with ahl talent in the nhl and shoddy manegement / ownership. i thought i made that clear enough so that even the slingblade UGA fans could understand it. i didn’t feel like beating that dead horse, always amazing when people point it out in some sort of “look at me, i have common knowledge info” though. impressive, you typed with one finger, didn’t you?

Fans go to games. Fans cheer for THEIR team and don’t care
if people from the North cheer for them as well.

Deal Clincher: Move the hockey team to Winnipeg, and then the AHL Manitoba Moose will move to Atlanta. You then don’t have to call the new hockey team the Atlanta Moose. We will allow you to retain the Thrashers logo and colours. P.S. I don’t think Atlanta will even notice the difference, and they still get quality hockey.

J.B Smith Rocks
May 17th, 20114:56 pm
this is like talking to a DW follower, brain-washed and defensive, no point in it to be honest. the Balkan has been revealed, we’ll see where that goes and sit here in bewilderment waiting on the ajc to report it, kinda like when “the real thrash” manages to not drool while posting asinine comments. absolute bewilderment… people from the north cheering for our team? are you this dense or is it a mental handicap? honestly, i’m asking. canada is poaching your team, invalid, they aren’t “cheering” for it. how did you or anyone else manage to miss that part?
May 17th, 20115:24 pm
I can confirm and I cannot deny that Bruce Levinson is a complete tool
May 17th, 20115:27 pm
Who is the Balkan?
May 17th, 20115:46 pm
J. B. Smith, AKA “the Balkan”, is Managing Partner of Equity 11. Ltd. and Partner in WM Reign, Ltd. located in Auburn Hills, Michigan and director/owner in other companies He is a grad of Penn State and his group recently became an investor in the Pittsburg Steelers.
Mr. Smith is a “Player” in the Private Equity world, but not as well known as the True North Group. My guess is his “all or nothing” offer for all (3) entiies will create some real friction within the Spirit among those owners that want “all out” and those that “want to rid themselves of the Thrashers”.
May 17th, 20116:01 pm
No one with the ability to own a team wants goods that are this damaged even in major market like Atlanta. The Thrashers have been a bad team for too long. A Canadian city like Winnipeg where hockey reigns as the supreme sport may give this failing franchise a chance at a fresh start. But even that town lost a hockey team to Phoenix Arizona of all places. At this point I feel sorry for Winnipeg hockey fans who will have to fill their appetite for pro hockey by embracing Levinson and the rest of that clueless band. I think Atlanta can support hockey. The fans are just bright enough not to waste money on a never ending joke.
May 17th, 20116:27 pm
Can we get an AHL team in Gwinnett now?
May 17th, 20116:48 pm
Less than one hour after the Balkan breaks, Chris is on Winnipeg radio discrediting the guy. Enjoying this a bit to much Chris – get that offer from the WFP yet? If the team stays, you’ve already ticked off your local readers enough to make you more than disposable to the AJC.
May 17th, 20117:01 pm
I feel bad for anyone having to deal with ASG. True North wants to overpay to bring a team to their frozen tundra where it will fail, Balkan wants all 3 at a discount even though the Hawks are being negotiated as we speak separately, they stay regardless. I don’t care how it gets done, keep the Thrashers here where they belong. It kills me that Don Waddell was / is in charge of finding buyers and John Kincade of all people introduced the Balkan into the picture.
May 17th, 20118:56 pm
Would the Thrashers do better in Winnipeg? I’m sure there’s a hell of a debt load that comes with the team not just the sale price. Last I looked the Canadian dollar is doing well against the sawbuck & the price was 170 million, True North would get the team for 165 million. What would be the cost of the tickets in Wpg? I think the arena is a tad smaller than other NHL arenas. So how long would the fans support the team before it gets too expensive or for some reason fall out of favour with the team? Now don’t get wrong I do wish good luck to Wpg. if you get the team but with the expense of owning a Pro Team has been experienced by many cities of varied sports regardless of country.
May 17th, 20119:41 pm
Let me ask you this Winnipegs. Do you think you will putting out the big money for tickets if team goes on a 11 year losing streak? I think not. Not even your market would support such incompetence.
May 18th, 20116:46 am
^^ that’s what the sports world can’t comprehend, we “fans” are blamed and labeled a bad sports town because we have brains apparently. i wouldn’t buy a cheeto from the ASG and if anyone does or has, that makes them a blind mole.
i’m sick of people who do not live here or understand half of what they are talking about blaming us. this whole show has been run foul, even the “reporting”. the ajc deserves to be criticized also, c-viv shoots down the hope with ease, it seems enjoyable to him because of his feud with kincade and as always we fans are in the middle and we suffer because of the “thrashers” and anything related to them. mark bradley is writing thrasher articles, since when has he done that? what’s next..most of Georgia gonna find out we’ve had PRO HOCKEY since 1999 !??!?!?! i expected jeff schultz to find the carcass like a bald buzzard, he hates DW. i don’t like betteman, but i don’t blame him, he has some sort of disdain toward our wonderful ASG clown show of lawsuits. do you blame him with not caring how these owners get out of the picture as long as they get out of the picture?
trust me..some of us will miss it. i will miss nhl hockey here. yep, speaking of “pro” hockey it has hardly been that as well. we’ve been fed brett sterling after jason krog, tim stapleton and freddy meyer.. it goes a long way back, todd reirden or the other popular type of player this team must have on the roster..an aging fossil, bondra.. modin. chelios. or a one man show superstar that magically cared about money and a legit chance at winning and being in a stable organization.
DW gets promoted, we get another passive whispering coach vowing to change the mentality and direction. yep, heard it all before. this is the fans fault? we don’t run the team, the clueless jelly-heads do. even the players here have all wondered why they never have a chance to play on a set line. you know it’s bad when your team signs ron hainsey to a bloated contract just to hit the cap floor. lucky ron, gosh what luck he has. he’s earned about 400k of that contract thus far, Boulton money for each game Boults fights in, IMO.
in a perfect world we’d keep OUR team and it would be re-branded, i don’t want anything associated with the years and years of being thrown under the bus for no reason, outsiders have no idea what this franchise has done to the cluster of fans it has left. whether it be ownership, the putrid product, marketing, etc etc. they do not give people reasons to be a fan, they give them reasons not to be. canada is poaching, can’t say i blame them, but get your facts straight when you try to rub it in, knowing full well what it feels like when the shoe is on the other foot, or snowshoe in the case of the Peg..because it will be. mentioning the “south” and blaming Atlanta itself is almost funny considering it’s a vast city of transplants..do Canadians have that word in their vocabulary? look it up. blame us..i’m a fan, been one since since the announcement that we would be getting a team..long before any player or even team name was announced, it has been downhill ever since and there is no way that’s my fault. time warner, ted turner, ASG, Don Waddell, Atlanta media, the NHL. Your fault, not mine.
