Islanders have been playing well as of late so I give the edge 4 – 2 to them

I like watching the Islanders play. I hope I can get their broadcast so I don’t have to listen to Elliot sugarcoating the Thrashers’ effort.

I’ll take the surging Islanders, too. They are a team that has come together too late to be playoff bound. But if they can play this way next year, they could have a reason to be talking about the playoffs. But please remember, even if the Isles get off to some 12-6-2 start, those were October/November games, not March/April games, and they could still fall flat on their faces, in terms of the 2012 playoffs. Then again, I cannot help but notice they are playing this well in March, so … maybe talk of a ‘faceplant’ next season is somewhat offbase, for the Islanders. The Isles actually have a decent young corps of players. Can they keep Taveras, Bailey, Grabner under contracts through UFA years?? That’s the key to everything. They locked up Matt Moulson, which surprised me. Trent Hunter is another piece to keep, as is Okposo, and so forth. I remember when Jay Grossman, Kovy’s agent, leaked that the Islanders had offered Kovalchuk 10-years @ $10 million-per-year. Imagine the Isles, today, if Kovy had accepted that deal. They’d actually be a playoff team, if a bit crippled, financially, moving forward.

We will lose. Islanders have greater depth and even more speed. We are done, too many points behind, not enough games. Call up the Fly (Freddy P) & Postma and let them get some serious TOI to audition for next year. Bench Boulton and Stewart and let Maxwell, Schremp and Pettersson have some fun. Roll these lines and have some fun:

Kane – Little – Stapes

Ladd – Burmy – Wheeler

Schremp – Antro – Freddy P

Dvorak – Maxwell – Thorbs

Hains / Buff

Toby / Bogey

Postie / Stu

Alternate goalies, starting with Mason tomorrow, for the rest of the year. See what happens and go from there. Season is over. Fini!

Who cares about the Islanders? The Canucks are in town the following night and that should be a much better game! :)
