Dudley not likely to trade Bogosian

Here are a couple quotes from interview with Thrashers GM Rick Dudley following Friday’s trade with Boston.

On possibility of more trades before deadline: “I can’t say that happen. I can’t say that it wouldn’t either. If someone said the right thing to me. I would like to win a championship. I’d like to do it over a period of time. I can’t honestly say at this time that we are a Stanley Cup favorite so any deal that we make the definition of it has to be both present and future. We won’t do anything to take away our chances of making the playoffs this year. We also won’t trade for a 35-year-old player. If a deal comes along that can meet that criteria, then we will certainly entertain it.”

On possibility of trading Zach Bogosian: “People ask me that all the time. I say the same thing. Wayne Gretzky was traded. There are no untouchables that I know of. Certainly not in Atlanta. I’m not actively looking to trade Zach and I don’t expect to trade him.”

Good. Bogosian should NOT be traded.

Dudley, wanting to build a “window of opportunity” sounds encouraging. I think that’s the smart and correct thing to do. We are not Stanley Cup contenders. We’re not even playoff probable, this season.

I hope Waddell cringes when he read this line “We also won’t trade for a 35-year-old player.”

I like the trade that he did with Boston. A little concerned about Wheelers “attitude” at least from his past incidents. But sounds like he has a lot of potential and could thrive in a top 6 run and gun style.

If we could move zach for an rfa top 6 winger, i’d do it in a heart beat. Kulda and Postma could be ready tomorrow.

How soon before they announce that we’ve traded ASG for Bernie Marcus?

Bernie Marcus would quickly become Arthur Blank 2 in this city, and he would be loved.

I say trade Zach, after close to three years in the NHL, he is not one bit better than when he first arrived, in fact he was good his first year, but now, No thanks, Good-Bye Zach, hope you can help the club, addition by subtraction is a good fit here.

Yeah, Modin was hurt most of the past three season’s, why would this be different, same thing.
It is yet another of these he played for Ramsey way back when and we know him, so what.We need players who can win, not ones that did once seven season’s ago.

By the way, in “Modin Watch 2010-11,” the over/under is 56 games played and 14 goals scored. For Modin, he’ll have to play just about every remaining game to make the OVER. He’s 7 goals shy of 14 for the season.

Good luck to everyone who participated in that contest, over on Rawhide’s blog.

Bogey is still a raw kid, in defenseman-years. He also has had some significant injuries in his short career. Consider: Pronger didn’t really become ‘Pronger’ until he was about 30 or close to it, so It would be foolish to trade Bogey at his young age. I suppose if some GM were willing to hugely overpay, you would have to consider it.

I can honestly say at this time that those who think that we are a Stanley Cup favorite is as dumb as a sack of hammers. Right, Dudley?

Midfield: No, but we can still make the playoffs… and you don’t need to be a Natural Man like me to know that.

Trading Bogo is stupid…he is only 20 years old! Most Defensemen don’t make it to the NHL until 25 at the EARLIEST!!! He shouldn’t be playing up this early unless he had some kind of talent…it takes time–I’d rather have him playing the NHL level than not evolving his game at the AHL level!! Some teams don’t draft D-men because by the time they mature; they are out of the RFA years. You’ve also got to realize that he is being taught the proper way to play D unlike the unstructured coaching style of J. Anderson. I’ll be cheering loud at the game on the 25th!!!

We traded Coburn, who was a young guy prone to making mistakes, and look how he turned out? top 4 d man on the best team in the league. And where is the guy we traded him for? oh he’s on social security? that’s interesting. Don’t trade bogey. I like the kid, sure he makes bad plays too often but he can shoot, score, skate and HIT! He’s a big guy and he has what it takes, if he goes nowhere in 3 years then yeah he’s a bust, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

THAT’S THE SPIRIT:
Dudley: “I can’t honestly say at this time that we are a Stanley Cup favorite”
Gearon: “Bruce, Rick told everyone that the … uh … umm … those guys with sticks aren’t any good”
Levenson: “Great, and the charade has been working so perfectly up until now”
Waddell: “Guys, want some coffee?”
Ramsay: “How about a few forwards that will actually hit somebody?”
Seydel: “I thought Stanley’s last name was Cooper.”
(To be continued)

Bogo at age 20 has a tremendous upside potential. And, he showed in his first year that he has all the tools to be a really good D-Man. He’s played a bit better recently and should not be traded. The guy who doesn’t appear to want to play with us is Johnny O.

My guess is that Sopel will be going soon, isn’t he a scratch today? With Colorado trading their Stewart and the Blues giving them young promising players as well, anything could happen, but I wouldn’t give up on Bogosian either unless we are blown away by the return. I’m happy thus far, I know peopel are writing Wheeler off, but I don’t see how anyone could care so much about Peverley, he rarely gave maximum effort..which last I checked was one of our main problems in Blueland. Guys who float and don’t work hard, notice Hainsey was sad to see him go, Hainsey is just like him. Win some freakin battles, you shouldn’t need passive Ramsay to tell you that. In the words of Exelby, no more passengers. Too bad Hainsey won’t be packing his bags also.

Look at the return that St.Louis received for Johnson. It’s going to take that type of offer to get Dudley’s attention.

That’s great Dudley, if you’re going to be the GM whether the team is in Atlanta or elsewhere, to have the build for the long run philosophy. But if we don’t have a winning playoff team this year or next, that long range plan will do nothing for those of us who want to see hockey in Atlanta. If I knew that the Thrashers were here to stay, I would be behind you 100%, but this may be one of those times where you have to give up some of your best prospects or invest in a veteran to make the playoffs this year and save the franchise. I hope I am wrong.

trade him. he doesn’t want to be in Atlanta and you can get a heck of a return for him. it is not a difficult choice by any stretch of the imagination.

This team looks completely demoralized. I don’t see penalties taken by Thor and Antro as nothing but an indication of indifference to the outcome. Even pewee leaguers know better than taking careless penalties in offensive zone when the game is on the line.

Patience with Zach. Defensemen tend to fill out and mature at about 25 or 26. Remember that ZB is only 20. Give it time.

Send begosian to the minors and let him learn the game and gain experience. Had we done that initially, he would be a much better player now.
