Burmistrov, Meyer injury updates

A couple of other notes from Tuesday’s practice.

I caught up with rookie Alexander Burmistrov, who is out with a cracked bone in this left foot. Burmistrov was on crutches with his foot in a boot. Both Burmistrov and Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay said there was no timetable for his return. The injury is to the inside of Burmistrov’s foot.

The injury occurred when Burmistrov was struck in the foot by a shot from teammate Zach Bogosian. Burmistrov said he played for a couple of shifts after being hit but after making a turn he said “it hurt so much I wanted to cry.”

* I also caught up with defenseman Freddy Meyer briefly. He was placed on injured reserve Sunday and has missed four games with an upper-body injury suffered as a results of two hits – which caused him to lose consciousness – against Calgary last week.

Meyer said he does not have a concussion or headaches but is suffering from “other issues” from the hits. There is no timetable for his return.

* The practice lines stayed the same as Sunday’s game against Carolina

Any Slater update?

I think it’s time for Dudley to make a move. I would love to see a top six offensive guy in Blueland soon. The sooner the better. It’s time to stop making excuses and work. Injuries effect every hockey team. Look at Pittsburgh. Crosby and Malkin are out, but they aren’t making excuses and are trying as hard as possible. I am ready to see a run like Novermber as I’m sure all of you are, and I know that the guys have to talent and capability. I wonder if it is a motivation/coaching defect or is it all on the players?

Rumored that Nikolai Zherdev will go on waviers today or tomorrow. Well???

We must be in for one block buster of a trade…the suspense is KILLING me.

we need an injection via trade but I’m a little worried about the price that’s been set out there already. Unlike free agency this last go round – looks like players are moving for high prices. I like Veersteeg but a 1st and 3rd is pretty steep for a 20 goal guy

We’ll likely trade for Zherdev when all other options have been blocked. By the deadline, his cap hit will be a paltry $660k and the A$G will actually approve that trade. Oh dear.

I thought the same thing when for a 1st and 3rd. But with Philly, they very likely will be late rounders.

We usually get another team’s garbage so who do you think it will be this year?

Imagine what Ladd would be worth if Versteeg is worth that..hrmmm.

Good Job

I think Slater is ok. He was talking about what kind of video games he likes to play the other day on an intermission clip.

Great news on Buff. It’s one little step in the right direction. Next up is Ladd hopefully. Maaaaybe some new owners will also show up by this summer too.

Maybe this will be a good thing to force Burmi to sit for a while. Hopefully a few weeks off to observe will help him out.

Finally, some good news in resigning Buff. The fact that we actually re-signed one of our best players is a step in the right direction. Ladd is next.

I would not mind us grabbing Zherdev off waivers but I think that either Colorado, St. Louis, Buffalo, Florida, and New Jersey would claim him before we could. Also I don’t think Dudely would claim him I have heard he is supposed to be a bit of a head case, but he is a finisher so you never know.

Tonight, 11 Alive should be running a story on the 11 pm news about the Thrashers staying in Atlanta. Fans can support the cause here:

If we claim Zherdev, is he still under contract next season? Or would that just be a situation where he’s kept until the end of the year??

He’s on a one year deal with Philly. For $2.2 M.

why does everyone continually want Zherdev. He is a head case and is put on waivers for a reason. Woulda been better off re-signing Mad Max instead of picking up other teams garbage players, we have enough of those. We complain about non physical non hard working players…so what do you think Zherdev is? Yep..one of those. Again..we have enough of those.

absolutely, max + kubina and thrash definitely in contention, for sure in playoff, buy asg is much wisely and they always wright, therefore thrashers disasters for all 11 years of existence.

Lard doo doo , what ELSE is available, but crap? Every team in contention is trying to keep its roster intact. Atlanta has room. Zherdev is a floater, who probably is a little soft. It’s only money, if you claim him. Don’t like ‘im? Cut ‘im. Sit ‘im. Off re-entry waivers, he’s half-price. Are there better options? Sure, but they cost something of value to get. Like a 1st round pick.

Ya just never know what our trade deadline deal might be. If I had to guess, I’d say … don’t look at the NHL, look at Europe. And the player will be so middling that not even the Islanders will attempt to claim him off waivers enroute to Atlanta.

Sabres win … in a 10-round shootout, where Montreal’s first two shooters scored. Vanek was put into a must score to make it 2-1. Then Enroth stopped the 3rd Montreal shooter. And obviously Buffalo scored on their 3rd shot. Somewhere in the middle of all this, Montreal scored and again, Buffalo had an answer. And then the goalies took over. Finally, the Sabres won. Buffalo, don’t laugh, is within 2-points of 8th spot. Of course, they have games-in-hand on Atlanta.

Atlanta had its chance … against “softies,” as one poster put it. We don’t get do-overs. We just have to win the next SLEW of games. And thus far, the ownership/management response is to re-sign Byfuglien. Now, that’s a good thing. But it’s not adding HELP right now.

Atlanta is now, officially, in 10th place. And Buffalo has games-in-game on us.

An FYI here for clarity.
Teams win, teams lose. Have streaks, injuries.

No,…..no softies.

We have 2 games yet VS the Sabres
2 vs Mont.
2 vs Carolina
3 vs Philly
And many, many more.

It appears Dudes crapped the bed by waiting too LONG. He hasn’t done anything to shake up this roster.

This team severely lacks a gritty forward with some scoring ability, getting another floater is not the answer. I must be deranged in questioning the effort of Peverley and Antro on a nightly basis, we don’t need another one. Like I said..we have enough of those types. When your coach questions the commitment of a team, getting yet another player who plays hard only when he feels like it is not the answer. Bergfors is finally coming around, do we really have time to wait and see if Zherdev wants to be here when he has worn out the welcome everywhere he has played? Why trade for another healthy scratch.

It’s hard to change the overall identity of this team in one season, but based on character , I hope Zherdev never wears a Thrasher jersey. I agree if he does hit waivers, the Isles grab him because they are in dire need of skill. We need a Tkachuk type and there aren’t many of those available. I thought we were getting this with Ladd, he was a lot gritter with Carolina and Chicago, he comes here and is soft on many nights as well. Again a shakeup was needed a month ago to send a message, players get comfortable here because of the passive team attitude.

Maybe Chris Neil is available, he is great in the playoffs, but it’s a gamble because we aren’t guaranteed to even make the playoffs obviously. Just my opinion..last I checked we are very soft, getting softer isn’t the answer, especially gearing for a possible playoff berth, getting a player with commitment issues like Zherdev isn’t the answer. We both agree this team does need HELP right now, I just don’t think it should come in the form of another empty jersey who has to be told to play hard. It’s taking time, but this franchise is headed in the right direction, the Byfuglien move is a good sign. We have a decent core with Pavelec, Toby, Byf, Little and Kane. Dudley is an architect, this is what he does, he is building around these players, it just takes time. A shakeup was needed after the Toronto and Islander games embarrassment, IMO..but who knows what offers were on the table, I still don’t see us trading a 20 year old for a temporary patch. I don’t know why we waited so long..we played bad for almost 2 months, why wait to be drowned in the flurries of deadline day, coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Thrashers fans – we would appreciate it if you could take a moment to help us move the ball forward on our “Keep the Thrashers in Atlanta” campaign. Our objective it to find new owners who will keep your team based in our fine city. Can you please “like” or Facebook page and forward links to the 11 Alive video and to our website to your friends, family, and co-workers…..a little time and effort on your part may help us move closer to having a better team on the ice and new owners in the club suites:

11 Alive Story on SAVE The Thrashers;

Facebook and Twitter Links:

We, as hockey fans, need to band together and let community leaders know that we need them to step up and lead on this issue. We appreciate any help you can provide. BTW – signing Buff does not necessarily show ASG is committed to the team or keeping the team here. Buff is now an asset of the franchise – an asset that can easily be moved to another city. Glad to see they did it, but do not read too much into it regarding ASG’s commitment to winning or staying in Atlanta.
