Byfuglien in hardest shot, skills challege relay

RALEIGH — Thrashers defenseman Dustin Byfuglien will compete in two events for Team Lidstrom at Saturday night’s NHL Super Skills event at the All-Star Game.

Byfuglien will be on Team 2 competing in the Skills Challenge Relay. He will be on a team with Shea Weber, Phil Kessel, Keith Yandle, Patrick Kane, Martin Havlat, Kevin Shattenkirk and Danny Brier.

They will compete against a Team Staal team of Kris Letang, Mike Green, Claude Giroux, Patrik Elias, Jamie McBain, David Backes, Marc Staal and Jeff Skinner.

According to the NHL, the new event for 2011 is an all-around competition that will showcase the one-timer, passing, puck control, stick-handling and accuracy shooting in four exciting relays.  In the one-timer event, three shooters (with the assistance of one passer) must score three goals over an eight inch barrier; in the passing event, one passer must complete a pass into each of the six nets set up around the rink; in the puck control event, one skater will skate through a series of cones while keeping possession of the puck; in the stick handling event, one skater will control the puck through a series of obstacles; and in the accuracy shooting event, one player will take aim at four targets.  Each skill must be completed before moving on to the next skill in this timed relay event worth a total of eight points. The group with the fastest time will score four points, second place will score three points and third place will score one point.

Byfuglien will also take part in, as expected, the Hardest Shot competition. He will be joined on Team Lidstrom by Anze Kopitar, Steven Stamkos, Brent Burns, Shea Weber and Cam Fowler.

They will compete against a Team Staal group of Zdeno Chara, Alex Ovechkin, David Backes, Tyler Seguin, Rick Nash and Patrick Sharp.

Here is the complete list of all those participating in the skill challenge.

I have to say I was, shocked to see this nitwit Jermey Ronnick on TV on the All-Star coverage.
This guy has zero class and is about as dumb as a rock. I find it very interesting, he has stayed far away from saying bad things about Byfuglien’s move to defense. Wee all remember his foul tone before the season started… Well J.R. how and why any NHL or professional telecast would hire you to do anything except be a third string waterbay is beyond me. Coverage has been great, except when he shows his stupid face, reminds me of the asg, and their stupid faces. Why is the commissioner avoiding the Thrashers issue ? Seems very very very odd to me, maybe he has been threatened with another asg lawsuit…. Hummmmmmm???

Sweet. Now everyone else will get to see just why people either get hurt when they block his shot or just plain get out of the way! LOL
