No trade in near future for Thrashers

Despite the  Thrashers’ injuries and current losing streak, I’m told the Thrashers are not close to  making a trade. Certainly the Thrashers need a top-six forward however nothing is imminent. Stay tuned on that front. The Thrashers had several areas to strengthen before the season and the rash of injuries has not helped.

* Following the Thrashers loss to Tampa on Sunday, coach Craig Ramsay said to turn around the team’s current losing streak he need the players and leaders in the locker room to step forward. I asked him to clarify the comments Tuesday as to who specifically he wanted to speak up. Turns out, he wants everyone to show leadership with their play.

Here is what he said:

“It’s not necessarily to say something,” Ramsay said. ” It’s easy to say something. It’s easy to yell. It’s easy to pick fault with people. We are a little banged up. It’s up to [Dustin Byfuglien] not to worry about his points but to worry about his defense and to encourage his teammates to continue to push and to show that courage he has to join rushes and shoot pucks and then be good defensively.

“[Rich Peverley] has to work on his draws. He has to be a good penalty killer. He has to shoot the puck.

“[Brent Sopel] has to be up and talking. He’s very good when he talks. He helps other players when he talks.

“Ron Hainsey has to join rushes and be good without the puck.

“It’s up to each person to look at themselves and not look at other players and say ‘Geez, he’s not playing very well. What can I do better? What can I do to support my teammates better?’ That’s leadership throughout the team. They have to want to be here. They have to want to be part of a winning group. If they really take care of themselves, if they really push themselves to be the best they can be, then they lead by example. It’s leading by example from everyone that, to me, is the ultimate leadership quality of an organization and a team.”

* Evander Kane skating prior to practice, but left when the session began. He did not travel with the team Sunday to Tampa and will not play Wednesday against the Capitals.

* Ondrej Pavelec will start in goal.

* Here were the line combinations from Tuesday’s practice:

Modin-Peverley-Bergfors

Cormier-Little-Stewart

Dawes-Stapleton-Antropov

Boulton-Burmistrov-Thorburn

Perhaps I’ve been a Thrashers fan for too long but me thinks this this the annual death spiral that knocks us out of the playoffs. I’m not encouraged after reading this either. Something – ANYTHING – needs to be done to create a spark before it’s too late.

Even if a trade was imminent, I don’t think the GM would tip his hand to the media lest guys start looking around in the room at who is half-way out the door.

Im confused… if nothing is imminent, why am I staying tuned on that front?

Incidentally, I agree with ThrasherTim. There’s no way they’d tell you or anyone else they were close to a trade.

In fact, I don’t recall ever being aware that something was brewing before it actually happened, except for maybe Kovalchuk last February when they broke the news on purpose to get the dollar amounts out in the media.

Can we AT LEAST trade the ownership group, preferably for some NON-Canadian owners?

Rebo – Along with being a Thrashers fan since inception, the other team I follow is the Detroit Red Wings. Believe it or not, they go through this sort of thing, too. They get some injuries around the mid-season mark, and go on to have awful games and unfortunate mishaps like this every Jan-Feb.

This might be our “death spiral,” or it might just be the injury bug has struck us in much the same manner that it strikes a lot of other teams out there.

Keep the faith. Even if the trolls pop in and tell you not to.

Because no GM ever breaks a story to the media before anything actually happens, because of the possibility that something won’t happen. I’d rather hear “nothing imminent, but watch this spot for any developments” instead of “We’re trading for Iginla and Moulson in two weeks.” The latter may not happen, at all, ever.

tough timing for these injuries – Enstrom the biggest loss. We need Pavs now more than ever but he’s looking worn down. For all the good stretches so far this season shots against has still been a problem.

Gotta try and hold it together with Pavs and the power play. Buff should get it going again soon. He gets too much ice time for him to not start finding the net again.

Looking at those lines I only see FOUR forwards who is a real threat to score. It’s looking like another LOSS Wednesday.

Not that I expect them to tell us of anything “imminent” but it would be nice if someone would acknowledge publicly that a trade is needed. I bet that would cause a few guys to sit up, take notice and play harder and / or better. Why not motivate the team to be better with more than rah-rah speeches? This team needs to make a deal or even two. No doubt in my mind. Otherwise, we will fall short by 4-6 points of a P/O berth.

Iwho are we gonna trade? what team in their right mind is gonna drool over our roster. i’m sure plenty of teams that passed on nigel dawes via waivers can’t wait to trade for him now. yep. heck..surprised no one has offered a 1st rounder for tim stapelton, that guy is a beast at 4 foot 11.

Leadership starts from the top down. Atlanta Spirit Group is a debacle. Please sell the team to an ownership that cares. If only there was an Arthur Blank running this team.

Wow….some of you sound like Leafs fans. Stop being so negative. This is a decent team. Hopefully these injuries will heal up quick. They are in a slump right now, it happens. As fans, we need to support them. Forget the owner debacle right now, we have no control over that. Let’s get our butts out there and let the team know their fans are counting on them. I think they will deliver.

Arthur Blank? Heck, chimpanzees throwing poo at the wall would give me more hope as owners than the uncaring crew we have.

The only trade that will positively impact this team is a trade of owners!

Thrashers have tough January on an annual basis. This one no exception. I agree, why would GM advise media of moves ? As for the owners, worst professional sports have to offer, but having been exposed as actual liare, well they should have both teams stripped from them and banned from the NHL forever, I could give a crap about nba basketball, it stinks. Move Hawks to Helena,Montana

I really am not surprised by this news.
WHO do we trade with? FOR WHAT???
WHO gets moved?? and we expect this “unknown’ to come in and be a saviour?
NAHHHHHH!
What this team needs right now is to get healthy. We are still in the hunt regardless of the losing streak, and if any of you have bothered to look, many other teams are having the same problems as us. DO YOU WATCH ANY OTHER BROADCASTS???? EVER??

We must mature as a team! Learn to bump it up in the 3rd w/ a lead.
THIS team needs seasoning, and the only way to get it is by PLAYING THE GAMES!

Oh, and stop being freakin patsies to all the “this is the end”, ” make or break” BS!!
Show as much intestinal fortitude as you demand from your team.
I firmly believe we’ll turn this around, and be competitive, and then all the “usual asholes” will crawl back under their Mommies, or wives skirts where they are always MOST CONTENTED.

GO THRASHERS!!!!!!!

The Thrashers have been over performing most of the year until lately. Pavelic cant stay red hot forever, and the scoring by committee is not going to last all year. Either we trade for some scoring or we are not going to even sniff the playoffs. Also, how about giving Pavelic a rest every now and then? Moose needs more time.

The only people the ownership group seems to effect are the whiny snivelers on this forum who can’t seem to enjoy anything unless they blame everything on the owners or DW. I’ve played a lot of hockey and NEVER, EVER thought about who was running the team while I was playing. Maybe that’s Bogo’s problem…the ownership situation is ruining his concentration on the ice. What a bunch of morons. The only people to blame for the way the team is playing are the players and coaches…period.

We are on the brink of that death spiral and Rammer has to do something dramatic, and not just ask everyone to step forward. How about this? DON A HANNIBAL LECTOR MASK, LOWER THE LIGHTS AND SPEAK IN A MENACING TONE TO THE BOYS- “PRODUCE OR YOU ARE DEAD!”. The guys is scary looking. He should use it.

The title of the article is, “No trade in near future…” No surprise. No purchases or subsidization of this incompetence in the near future from this (former) consumer, either.

“The owners have put their ‘commitment level’ on full display again.”–Brendan.

Indeed. The truth of the situation is on full display for all to see, as well. Whether they see the obvious is another thing.

How sad and pathetic. The hopeful dreamers!

I love how everyone is freaking out about this… CHILL OUT PEOPLE… we have played more games than any team in the NHL in a short amount of time and in that span your bound to be tired and pick up nagging injuries that don’t heal overnight. Having the All Star Break right now could be a blessing in disguise because it allows everyone but Toby to get over whatever injury is slowing them down. Come out of the break firing on all cylanders and go on 3 or 4 game tear and the playoffs seem very reasonable and doable again. Its not time to panic, we have a favorable schedule going into the latter half of the season and as long as we beat who we are expected to we should be able to get a lot of points out of the next 11 games and make a solid push to reestablish a playoff position.

haha yeah they’ll turn this around and be competitive..shame on anyone who is “negative” regarding that glimmer of hope considering the Thrashers have been competitive..how many years now? Again shame on anyone who hasn’t lived under a rock since 1999..because somehow the negative crowd must be missing all the championships this team has obviously won, not to mention all the times they’ve obviously “turned it around” after how many flops now? How many seasons of a “losing month” has this team endured? Uh oh I’m being negative..I must have missed watching this organization’s teams since..umm…day 1.
