Updated: Antropov on injured reserve; Kane out vs. Bruins

Nik Antropov was placed on injured reserve before Thursday’s game against Boston. He continues to battle what coach Craig Ramsay described as a lower-body injury related to a fall into the net he took last week in Toronto.

However, the coach admitted the team is being careful with the forward who had offseason hip surgery.

“It’s just a little longer recovery than we hoped,” Ramsay said. “He’s feeling better each day but he had some surgery during the summer. We want to make sure there is nothing going on with that and that he’s feeling healthy when he comes back into the lineup.”

In 35 games, Antropov had 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists).

Tim Stapleton was re-called from AHL Chicago to take Antropov’s spot on the roster. Stapleton appeared in eight games, without a point, for the Thrashers before being sent down Tuesday to make room for Patrice Cormier. Stapleton had an assist in Chicago’s 3-2 win over Toronto on Wednesday.

Evander Kane will also miss the game against the Bruins. He suffered a mid-body injury Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The injury occurred early in the third period on a check by Aaron Asham and he did not return.

Ramsay had hoped Kane could play but said before the game: “They’ve been working on him trying to get him ready to go but I doubt he will be able to suit up tonight.”

Kane is tied for second on the team with 12 goals. He missed two games earlier this month after being hit in the knee by a shot.

With Antropov and Kane out, Niclas Bergfors and Stapleton were in the lineup. Ramsay would not give any indication what the line combinations would be other than the line of Eric Boulton, Jim Slater and Chris Thorburn would remain intact.

“Other than that we will bounce some people around,” Ramsay said.

Hope Antro gets better soon. At least we have a good replacement, I think Staples has a lot of potential.

Time for the Captain to step up. He has been quite silent the last few games.

We are losing a lot of size but gaining some quickness. Not all that good of a trade-off.

Woo-hoo! Stapleton! That was an exciting overtime and shootout.

Couldn”t make the game? Didn’t see the telecast, live? Well, the replay is on right now. It’s on SPSO. There’s about 2 minutes left in the 1st, and the score is tied, 1-1.
