Byfuglien most likely back in lineup

Dustin Byfuglien said he intends to play Friday night against Washington.

The Thrashers defenseman, just named an alternate captain, left Wednesday’s game against Florida after being hit behind the left knee with a shot. He did not practice Thursday but took part in Friday’s morning skate. Following the practice, he declared himself fit to play.

Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay said it was likely Byfuglien would return to the lineup but would make a final decision after pre-game warmups.

“He looks pretty good,” Ramsay said. “We’ll dress an extra guy for the warm-up but it looks like he’s probably ready to play.”

* With Byfuglien back the scratches will be defenseman Freddy Meyer and forward Fredrik Modin, who continues to be out with an upper-body injury.

* As I said Thursday, Ondrej Pavelec will start in goal.

* The practice lines remained the same, meaning Nik Antropov has been moved to right wing on a line with Alexander Burmistrov at center.

* Here are the practice lines:

Great news. The season is getting close to the tipping point and we need points.

I think a big message was sent to the entire team. I bet they all got it. The Captaincy came a little before I expected but it was apparent that it was the right time and right person to be named.

Good to see Buff back. It was also apparent that this team really looks towards him. This guy is about to change the way some defenseman play the game. Anyone know why he changed his number from 52? It seems like a perfect fit. He and the plane even share the same nickname. I highly doubt he even cares what BUFF stands for.

I expect a well played and hard fought game tonight by both teams. Atlanta gets the win. Too bad I’ll have to catch the rerun.

Hopefully he’s ready to go and not trying to play too soon. If he got hit in the back of the knee you can image he had some serious swelling and bruising. Hockey players don’t have padding in the back of the legs. See the injury to that rookie in the Chicago game that we traded for an example. He was laying down writhing in pain. You can bet Buff was hurting pretty bad these last couple of days.

Evening Chris. Watched new Conspiracy Theory then caught first half of opening period. WOW. Have replay on now. Thrashers netted a trio of goals in opening 10 minutes. First my congratulations to Pavs for a well deserved shutout. Long overdue young man. Guess when Thrashers compete for almost 60 full minutes they are around half a dozen goals better than Crapitals. Not really. Thrashers played complete game. Crapitals underestimated guys in blue. Alexander O and his playmates will not that same mistake again. Powerful showing at Philips Arena. For home team. Refreshing. Extremely proud of squad. Guess Craig Ramsey got his point across. Believe fourth goal late in second period was backbreaker. Crapitals had started to come on but that marker deflated them for good. Final Thrasher tally belongs on every highlight reel. Nothing to be displeased about in this effort other than failure on 5-on-3. Those have to be converted. Nice effort fellows. Now back to replay. Nighty night everyone. STENDEK
