Ramsay pleased, not thrilled, with 3-4-1 record

The quote of the day comes from Thrashers coach Craig Ramsay. I asked him following Monday’s practice what he thought of the team’s 3-4-1 record considering they have played Washington twice, Tampa twice and made a West Coast trip.

“It’s scary sometimes if you look ahead [at the schedule] and I, honestly, try not to. But you couldn’t help but look at some of that and go ‘Uh-Oh, this is not good.’ When we initially looked at it and saw four in a row on the road to start, I thought we are playing good teams, it’s not good. However, we’ll be away together and try to grow the team and I think that happened. The power plays we were playing against are frightening. Washington we did a good job against. Tampa we didn’t do a great job against. You take seven penalties against a team like Tampa and you are going to get burned. … I’m pleased with where we are. I’m not thrilled. I’m pleased and I think if we just trust and take that Washington game and use it. Take those Anaheim and San Jose games and say ‘Look, when you play like those stretches, you can play with anybody.”

That’s a refreshing take on things. Tired of hearing “the sky is falling” attitudes every blog and story I read. PATIENCE!

Guess 1 game under 500 is OK but 8 games does not make the season. We shall see. . . thanks CViv for the great job you are doing. Maybe an Enstrom profile/interview in the future ?

HP Drifter: Thanks, I appreciate that. Working on features on Clint Malarchuk and Brent Sopel now, but I’ll put Enstrom on the list.

I echo the Enstrom feature sentiments. He deserves a little extra recognition for his recent “ironman” accomplishment. Also, he seemed to really relish the off-season “mentor” / host role when he let Oduya and Pettersson crash at his place in August. Sure there are some good stories there.

I’ll be worried if 20 games in the team still looks confused (at times) and isn’t making life miserable for others. I really don’t/didn’t expect miracles – just a professional effort each night. I do think Ramsey will require that as the season moves along. I think we’ll see it.

The attendence at last Friday’s game was terrible vs Tampa. I could hear the players communicating in the upper deck. Anyone else there? Does anyone give a s**t?

What have they ever done to warrant big crowds? Losers don’t draw, where ever they are.

3-4-1 is still AHEAD of where I had the Thrashers at this point. E. Kane’s 4 goals vs. the Caps this year is the difference. If I had to nominate an MVP for October … Evander Kane and Chris Thorburn would be dueling it out, along with Andrew Ladd. Let’s see which one of the three of them should get the honor, for October.

I agree about the story on Toby Enstrom. That guy is so steady and reliable as well as a beautiful skater. I do wish the fans that have not wanted to attend a game in the past would support this team. However, I completely understand their refusal to do until consistent winning returns. It is a double edged sword since a big crowd is a motivator.

This season has been a bit confusing. When I looked at the west coast schedule I was afraid we would get ate by the Sharks and the Ducks would be a hard fought game. I was also a little nervous against the Kings. I was pleasantly surprised we played well against those teams except the Kings game was not good. I thought for sure we would play well against Buffalo as we always seem to do and also be able to stand our ground against Tampa Bay. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the effort against Buffalo and getting embarassed twice against Tampa Bay. Those were not very good games played by our Thrashers AT ALL. I’m okay with the record because it could have been worse, but it SHOULD be better though.

I’m also very concerned we are 8 games in and ZERO goals by Little, ZERO goals by Antropov, and ZERO goals by Peverley. These guys need to get going soon.

In my opinion, the “depth” strategy is not really working so far. It’s been all up to Kane. If he is not having a good night, it’s a guaranteed loss. Also, unlike his white twin from Chicago, he is only good when he plays simple and hard.

Getting blown out on home ice, two games in a row, is not too thrilling.

Truth is most of the players really do not want to play here because they do not have much respect for our owners. Hopefully we have a good, solid season. If not, oh well. Then the best thing is to try to keep as much intact as possible and add a few pieces and try again next season. That’s all you can do.

Todd, you really think that the players think about ownership? “I don’t want to play here because I don’t repect my owners”. Really? Maybe YOU should wear a helmet to prevent any further head trauma.

is it a thrasher coach requirement to pass the excuse book to his replacement. these guys all use the same list of quotes after every loss

I’m pleased as well. Not thrilled.
It’s a long season……. I continue to see improvement.

As far as “not wanting to play here”???? Correct me please.
But aren’t ALL OF THE A-HOLES who left here for whatever reason now also gone from
wherever???? Leaving a trail of disgruntled fans in their wake??? Burning ALL of their bridges!

NOT AN ATLANTA PROBLEM!! or AS LLC.
