Ramsay wants up-tempo team

After talking to new Thrashers head coach Craig Ramsay, I can tell you that he wants to play an aggressive forechecking, up-tempo style. Look for defenseman to join to rush in an effort to create four-man rushes.

Here are some of the highlights from today’s conference call:

“We want the defensemen to join as many rushes as they can,” Ramsay said. “We want to create four-man rushes as much as possible. I think we can do it with the personnel that we have. … We want to be aggressive and as up-tempo as we can.”

“I’m even-tempered. I think it’s important to keep your temper. There are times to get in guy’s faces but a steady diet of that is not a good thing.”

“We have players in place that can play the up-tempo game I like to play.”

“If we can go into camp with a different attitude that we expect to win, we can’t just hope to survive.”

Here are some quotes from others:

Ron Hainsey: “It’s good to have a guy in place. I know Duds has a long relationship with him. He’s coming from a team that’s had success. He played in the league for 15 years. I don’t know much about him at all. It’s a new start for all of us.”

“It’s been an exciting week. We had the trade, added some new guys and now he have a new coach. It really gets you going.”

Chris Thorburn: “I talked to a guy who played for him in Tampa Bay and he loved him. He’s a great player’s coach. … It’s a fresh start and I can’t wait to get started.”

Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk: “He actually (influenced me) quite a bit. He always would talk to me, even when I wasn’t playing. He would shoot me drills in practice to work on my foot speed and decision making and almost everything as part of my defensive game, just to make it better. He’s a great coach and I wish him well.”

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli: “He’s a real calming guy. He’s really good 1-on-1 with guys. A ton of experience and he can communicate with the guys on a level that, when you’re day to day and you have to tell guys what they’re doing wrong, it gets tiresome from both sides. He can really connect that way to the players and he still can be passionate.”

Looks like it won’t take long for the rest of the coaching staff to be put in place. Rick Dudley acknowledged there have been talks with others, he declined to be specific, and said it “won’t take an inordinate amount of time.”

Now, let’s get ready for the draft.

doubtful. He has a no movement clause and I don’t think he’d be inclined to approve a trade back to Atlanta.

of well, darn no trade clauses. I think he still has like 4-6 years left on contract and would be a valuable asset

I thought of that too. i’d love to see him back and was disappointed to learn of the NTC. Thrashers management knows he was a fan favorite and might try to acquire him because of that; maybe get some fans who’ve bailed the last few years back in philips. I don’t see it happeing though.

apparently rumor going on that we would obtain Penner, Hemsky and there 2nd round pick in exchange for 8th pick little and Boris. Penner was top score and assist leader with EDMonton but thats all I know. however surprised Duds would give up 8th basewd off what he said earlier

I know there is lots of speculation on a day like this, but I’m told nothing to that rumored deal with Edmonton.

Ramsay clarified that – unlike some cheap replicas – his system does not call for mandatory turnovers in the neutral zone resulting in odd-man rushes against. Developing.

Well, the moment is nearly here. I hope we get someone good at #8. Lots of good defensemen still on the board.
