Kane getting closer to return

Evander Kane skated for the second time in two days on Monday as he recovers from a broken foot. He skated at Philips Arena before the pre-game skate for tonight’s game against the Hurricanes and stayed for the team practice.

Kane will not be in the lineup tonight, but it may be soon. He will make the three-game road trip with the team to Toronto, Washington and Pittsburgh.

“It feels really good,” Kane said. “I was able to go pretty hard. Yesterday it felt really good as well. Today there were no issues. I want to get in as soon as possible but it’s going to take a couple days.”

Kane has missed the past 12 games.

I don’t think it’s day-to-day yet, but I certainly hope in the next week you’ll see him on the ice,” coach John Anderson said.

The Thrashers will go with the same lineup – and same line combinations – as they play the Hurricanes for the second time in three days. Slava Kozlov, Eric Boulton and Chris Chelios are the healthy scratches.

Johan Hedberg, who stopped all 34 shots from the Canes on Saturday, will be back in goal.

Anyone else notice how well Mark Popovic has played the last few games? He said it has been to be in the lineup regularly, especially after being out with a broken foot for so long. He also told me this morning that he had a cracked rib earlier this season.

Buy a ticket, Woe! :)

Great news about Kane! Like everybody else, I want him back before the playoffs so he gan get in game shape if they do make the 7 or 8 spot. But they better hold him out till it’s really good to go because Kane will go all out in a game.

The Thrashers – of late – seem to be playing nervously at home. Perhaps – if the house were full – they might think they were on the road, and play better.

WHO MADE THIS SCHEDULE?! Of the Thrashers last 5 games: two against Pittsburgh, 2 at Washington and one vs. New Jersey. The top 3 teams in the conference! So wrong.

The playoffs have already started, with the competition coming up. Let’s win em all and shock the NHL. Do you believe in Blueland??????????

Can’t complain about the schedule. We have to play them sometime and we shouldn’t be playoffs if we can’t compete with them. If we play good against the elite teams and get in to the playoffs, we may be a force in the first round. Keep it going guys.

What did you guys think fo Stapleton? I for one really liked his game. He has some skill and speed. I realize his size is a bit of a concern. But put him on a line with Little and Peverly and their combination of speed and skill could give the Thrashers a nice second scoring line. jmho

Plus there is an upside. These teams are all “in” the playoffs. There is a tendency to take ones foot off the gas going into the them and get healthy. That may play into the Thrashers favor.

brett, i agree with Stapleton. Did you notice him and Prothier talking to each other on a face-off. Looked like both were smiling. 20 seconds later prothier slams him into the boards from behind. Welcome Rookie

Of course, we miss Kane. But he’s paying the Atlanta “rushed prospect” price of a seemingly “mandated” injury. Name a prospect the Thrashers “rushed” into the lineup … who didn’t get hurt in their rookie season?

Name one that played 76 games, as a 1st round draft pick rookie.

Maybe Slater. I’d have to look it up.

We need Kane back, as soon as possible. He will go all-out when he returns.

Tale of Woe – The decision was made before the season started not to show this on TV. Hockey TV ratings are generally very bad in almost all of the USA. Word is that only Pittsburgh and Detroit have any decent TV following. Ratings are even poor for the 3 New York/New Jersey teams. SportSouth chooses not to televise roughly 16 or so games a year to save money. This is the last one of the season.

I did see that Hollywould. Stapleton looks like he isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty either. Which is nice since the dump and chase seems to be about the only way we can get into the offensive zone. I hope he gets a fair shake to show what he has to offer.

Washington might rest a few, but if they have a few call ups, all they are trying to do is make an impression on the coaches for next year. I’d rather play evry team when they are at their best. Because if the Thrashers do make, they would have earned.

My personal thanks to the Thrashers for yet another uninspiring effort, now I will have no problem saving my money and writing them off for the year.

My creditors thank you.

Bunch of losers – 3 games at home agaisnt a team with one of the worst records in the league and lose 5-2, 4-0 & 4-1. Hopefully this pathetic group will lose out so they won’t have to have leaving 6 realtively easy points on the table come (non) playoff time.

The funny thing is … one of the regular posters told me that Atlanta’s record, when leading after the first period, is something like 88-percent. Well, despite only 4 shots on goal, Atlanta did take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.

To lose to Carolina, or any team, hurts. Especially at this juncture. But let’s not forget that Carolina and Toronto are among some of the league’s better “second half” season records. And, at this time of year, it matters NOT what a team’s record is … what matters … is how well they are playing.

Atlanta will get Pittsburgh twice, Washington twice, Toronto and New Jersey. Time for another ‘closed door’ meeting. It might be necessary to have them before every game. To me, and I didn’t see this game, the issue seems to be “focus.” Either the team “thinks” it’s playing well, when it isn’t, or … they just don’t have the proper coaching or focus to execute a complete game plan.

I don’t know which it is. Maybe, it’s both.

Segue to “focus” and “execution,” the Nashville Predators trailed the Panthers tonight. They got the goal they needed to force overtime, where they won the game, to remain in 5th place in the West. Bottom line, Nashville got it done. I can only hope Nashville holds off Detroit for the #5 seed.

Antropov has 23 goals on the year. I remember when he had one (1) goal and 19 assists, and we were wondering if he was going to get to 15 goals for the year. The Antropov offseason acquisition appears to have been well worth the money, when Leaf fans were harpooning us for overpaying him.

The Trashers wore their pink uniforms on Monday. Even my hero Johan Moose Lehtonen. Truly disheartening. Guess pink uniforms will be in vogue from here on out. Sad. Would say more but no matter how much is said about filth it is still throwaway refuse. Just like Trashers! ++STENDEK++ Forgive us Hamilton.

We left at the second intermission. We knew that Johnny Boy’s so called “system” had no answer for the neutral zone trap that the Canes threw up. We would only embarrass ourselves in the playoffs with our ill conceived game plan against a strong defensive strategy. I’m not buying back in unless Teflon Don and Johnny Boy are sent packing. Lights have been out for some time and the padlock is on the door. Party’s over.

Would Anderson and Waddell still be employed in Montreal or Toronto? Seriously?

I think Moose really got it right: “Thrashers goalie Johan Hedberg talked about the need to play well enough “to deserve to be in the playoffs” “…

IMO, its healthier for a franchise to be honest in their assessment of themselves. Whether Philly’s free fall out of a playoff spot opens a slot for Atlanta or not, we aren’t a team with the assets to go far in the playoffs…it would be smoke and mirrors in large part.

Not that this team doesn’t have talented parts…we do. But I’m tired of being given Hainsey and told he’s a $5 mil/yr defenseman (even tho he’s had a strong run of late). Don’t try to sell me MacArthur as much more than a third line guy who’s -16. Losing a 40-goal franchise scorer is NOT a sign of a healthy hockey franchise. Kovy left to win. This is a game played for Stanley Cups, not draft picks.

And Anderson’s system has gotten us right back at the same place we were after his first season…done in April. I want to see ownership make a bold statement that THEY want to win, too.

Same problems since 1999. No hitting, too many players spending too much ice time coasting, hitting the goalie’s logo or else totally missing the net, too many turnovers, too little caring. If they sent the whole pile of crap organization to Canada I would live happily ever after.

Welcome all yee recent soon-to-be ex STH, or Thrasher supporters. I cut the cord two years ago, and just sit amazed at the money I save, and the anguish I don’t have to go thru on a nightly basis. When they practically give away good seats to key games and the arena is still barely half full that has to tell you something! This is a country club franchise for veterans hoping to secure another year or two of an NHL paycheck while the up-and-comers wait to get to UFA status and get to a franchise with an idea how to compete.

Some are finally getting it! I can certainly use the money more than the ASG and Don Waddell can–they have proven nothing but disdain for the fans of this franchise…

It IS remarkable how much money is wasted on this abomination of an organization…I stopped many years ago and haven’t looked back once…if anything, I’ve been in the front line of encouraging others to do the same…

The fans of this team deserve better…

We did the exact same thing 2 years ago and the amount of money and anguish saved is substantial.

I would like to encourage all, however, to stick close and jump back in as season tix holders if and when they do the right thing and get us a real GM and start running this club properly!

Thrashers don’t belong in the playoffs this year…too many goals given up, many more losses than wins, poor team defense, no real, lead by example star and captain…..wait until next year…..plenty of talent left, enough money to spend and get some more grit.

Sam, I agree. Part of the problem here are the fans, many of whom don’t demand enough, and are almost happy to just say they saw a hockey game. The AJC and it’s lack of actual ACCOUNTABILITY to make things better for the city they report to and about by keeping this in the spotlight is another big part of it. Could you imagine the uproar if say, the Dawgs and Tech both sucked? I know it’s the deep south and even with the Flames here previously haven’t established hockey solidly here, but why would the “sports” reporters here NOT want yet another professional sport to succeed and give them more to report on? A good product on the ice would be nothing but good for this city as a whole, great for the fans, and a boon for the sports writers right? Or maybe not I don’t know… Chris that isn’t meant as a knock at you, I actually wonder how you go about doing this when the paper gives you little to nothing to work in combination with, like maybe say, 1 page of NHL coverage about what is going on around the whole league or something too?

Four shots in 20 minutes. An average of a shot every five minutes! With a power(less) play factored in. Way to go quitters! I know. You are afraid you might score if you shoot because it is, after all, the Maple Loafs! Just throw a few towards the net so the one remaining fan (Branden) will still believe you all give a shet. The rest of us know you are so far in the tank it will be August before all of you climb out! Heartless uncaring scumballs. ++STENDEK++ FLASH: Thrashers up 2-0 early in second period. Completely shocked! Now if only Pavs does not pull a Kari Lehtonen meltdown.

Stage is set! Thanks to Pavs Lehtonen. Plus that worthless piece of commode residue who made a pitiful half-hearted attempt to cover his man on the Maple Loaf goal. Whoever the scum is! Thrashers set for another choke. Will either lose 3-2 in regulation or in shootout. Nobody gives a crap about any garbage pity point at this stage. Would like to be wrong. But…these ARE the Thrashers! ++STENDEK++

Glad I was wrong! Thought prediction was right on when Maple Loafs tied game in third period. Relieved next goal went to visitors not home team. Do not believe Thrashers possess heart of playoff team. A team with fire in its gut would have rolled opponents during these last few weeks. Glad to see Kane back. He reminds me a lot of that guy who plays for Flames. Stanley Cup? Anybody except New Jersey (Ilya Kovalchoke) or Chicago (Maryann Hosegag). I am fine with anyone else. Except perhaps Montreal. Have ALWAYS hated those guys! Before I forget. Way to go Pavs! Saved butts of lazy teammates in final period. Kudos! ++STENDEK++
