Kane misses Thrashers practice

The Thrashers held practice Sunday before departing to New Jersey for Monday’s game with the Devils.

Evander Kane missed the practice. He appeared to injure his shoulder Saturday against the Lightning. He did return to the ice afterward, but did not skate Sunday. Coach John Anderson said he was checked out by doctors, was listed as day-to-day and will make the next leg of the road trip.

Tobias Enstrom will be playing in his first Olympics. He found out he made the Swedish team on Sunday – by text message from Johan Hedberg. Enstrom joins Ilya Kovalchuk and Max Afinogenov who were named to the Russian Olympic team Christmas Day.

Look for Boris Valabik to keep playing. I talked to Anderson about him this morning. He likes what he is seeing as Valabik continues to get in condition.

Chris Chelios signed another Professional Tryout Contract with AHL Chicago. He has appeared in 22 games and is second on the team with a plus-nine rating.

Thrashers prospects – and both second-round draft picks this year – Carl Klingberg and Jeremy Morin each scored goals in the opening round of the World Junior Hockey Championships Saturday. Klingberg, playing for Sweden, scored in a 10-1 win over the Czech Republic. Morin scored for the United States in a 7-3 win over Slovakia. Both teams are in action again Sunday.

Kari Lehtonen was again on the ice before practice. He was in full pads and did some skating and stretching before leaving the ice when players reported. He did face a few shots – from Nik Antropov’s young son.

Here are the lines this morning with Kane out:

Blue: Kovalchuk-Antropov-Afinogenov

Orange: Kozlov-Peverley-Little

Grey: Slater-White-Armstrong

Red: Boulton-Reasoner-Thorburn

That’s your Sunday report. Thrashers are on the road and don’t return home until Jan. 4. I will do my best to keep you up to date while they are away and I finish some college football stories in advance of the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

Congrats to Tobias! Good luck and don’t get hurt Tobes! Hopefully he will get some protection from a big, sun-eclipsing D-man like Kubina or Victor Hedman.

Sucks about Kane as he has been one of our better players of late. Hope he bounces back quick.

Chelios should be signing a pro contract with the Thrashers for 1/2 a season. What could it hurt?

Yeah, I was at practise today and Kari looked pretty good, faced a few shots, stretched, seemed happy, signed a few autographs, all that junk. As for Kane, he didn’t practise, but I saw him drive out in his car out of the forum. Antropov’s young son is prety cool. Chris is his name I think. He was a pretty good skater, maybe he’ll be famous, like his daddy.

“He appeared to injury his shoulder Saturday against the Lightning. ”

Do you mean that he appeared to injure his shoulder? The AJC needs to thoroughly edit articles and check them to make sure that they are correct instead of constantly posting articles full of typographical and grammatical errors.

Don’t care about any of this. I am a lot more concerned about our performance in the last 10 games. It feels like things are slipping away.

Good thing someone clarified the typo- otherwise I would have been totally lost in translation as to what happened to Kane, even though I saw the game and he did appear to have an “injury” to his shoulder when Matt Smaby crunched him into the glass. Of course the internet doctors may have a different hypotheses as to what really occurred. Kane (in my opinion) was one of the most physical Thrashers last night, hopefully he will be good to go, and hopefully there aren’t any errors in this retort because I did not edit either and if someone can’t decipher it, I guess I’ll go ahead say that they are a waterhead, likewise for the original ajc article which did contain the horrible typo or error. Luckily I was able to comprehend it, I have smarts real good.

Chelios’ deal with Chicago has nothing to do with Waddell. He’s not Thrasher property, as he is free to sign with any NHL team that might want him.

Agree with Yellowjax that it feels like the doors on this playoff bus are slowly coming off. I would start sounding the alarm in a more concerned manner if I was the coaching staff. Maybe they are in practice and behind closed doors, but I have yet to see any of that translate onto the ice.

Chelli has made it perfectly clear that he wants to stay in Chicago. He has already turned down offers from NHL teams.

Guys just chill out about the typo errors!!! If you understand them and you know what they meant then everything’s fine!! Just focus on the story not the gramatical errors!

Looking forward to reading your stories from the road on this trip Chris. Oh wait, you’re not going on the road again, are you? Too expensive and all that. Just like the AJC didn’t send anyone to Minnesota or Denver…oh wait, they did? Oh well, at least you get to eat in the Center Club for home games like you’re special.

Hope Kane is okay. The potential for injury was the only reason I was hesitant to see him past Game #9 of the season. I don’t like rushing prospects. But Kane has delivered more than I expected. I just hope he can finish the year with 77-78 games played.

Does Valabik talk much about his injury, since returning?

Any news on the Kari front, other than he’s skating and taking shots from Slater and Boulton?

AJC? I’ve noticed “coverage” of the road games involves a generic article from AP. If the game starts after 7:15 there is no coverage at all.

We haven’t won a game in regulation in nearly a month! Not looking like a playoff team. Defense is constantly out of position and some our “leaders” don’t back-check.

Hoping for a turn-around soon.

Hoping for Kari to be in net before its too late. Looks like Moose and Opie are coming back down to earth and playing how I thought they would. Before the season ever started I knew the Thrashers would score goals, but goaltending was the key.

Why do we keep starting Pavelec? Does he ever give up less than 4 goals in a game? We need to try winning some until Kari can come back and take over………

I just hope they spent the entire practice working on forwards defensive coverage because lately it’s been no where to be seen. Those two 3rd period goals for Tampa were a result lack of poor forwards defensive coverage. That and Bogosian looked bad and seriously needs to be a healthy scratch for a couple of games.

He has two shutouts this year, to answer your question. He could have had a couple more, had he had some defense playing in front of him. As a matter of fact, some of his losses this year could have been prevented had there been some semblance of defensive coverage.

Pavelec is young and still needs to learn a lot (like rebound control), but pinning everything on the kid is rather Stendecian.

I believe that the Thrash need to shake up a few things in order right this ship.

Slava Koslov. -11 for the year. I think Kane has earned a spot on the 2nd line. Either promote Kane or bring up Brett Sterling (16 goals +2).

Slater: 1 Goal -5. Bring up Johnny Pohl (8 goals & 12 assists) or Jason Krog (8 goals & 25 assists)

The losing streak lives on! Damn heartless Yardbirds stunk up New Jersey which is almost impossible to do considering the suffocating stench in that Yankee state already. Another mail in job by losers. Moose looking more like untalented Finn Kari Lehtonen every time he takes to the ice. Kapitan Ilya Kovalchuk has packed it in for remainder of season. Ship his sorry uncaring Maryann Hossa a$$ to whichever deluded team that still thinks the Russian is worth a damn. Totally embarrassing debacle in a long series of gag giveup jobs. Glad Coach John Petrino no score system has been ingrained so well into these clueless quitters. Close up Loseland. This season is finished. No playoffs. No more highlights. No more hope. Sure am happy that all damn apologists are happy. Ship the untalented bestards to Hamilton. Hell, anywhere but Atlanta. The sooner the damn better. To Hell with all of them. ++STENDEC++

RIGHT Stendec & Sage, this team stinks !

Losing streak should reach 9 games after this road trip.
Then extend once home with usual lazy play.

anderson has LOST this team and the players are not much better either,
another LOSER by a Career Loser, don “The LIAR” waddell, resign waddell for the sake of the team ! You are an IDIOT !

The reason you only see an AP article for road Thrashers games is because the AJC does not send a beat writer on the road to cover the team. A lot of newspapers do not send a beat writer to cover away games for hockey the LA Times being another one that does not have an away beat writer. One of the New York papers does not as well.

But I’m getting worried about the Thrashers they are always playing for behind it seems and can never win a game in regulation. Always having to come from behind or win in OT.
