More line juggling at Thrashers practice

Your Tuesday morning report from Thrashers practice.

With the line juggling that occurred at the end of Sunday’s game with Tampa Bay, the lines are indeed different for practice. Three lines are different, with the fourth line intact. Here are the lines at this point, in no particular order:

Blue: Kozlov-Antropov-Afinogenov

Orange: Kovalchuk-Peverley-Armstrong

Grey: Kane-White-Little

Red: Boulton-Reasoner/Slater-Thorburn

No changes indefensive pairings.

We will report after practice what coach John Anderson says about the line changes. I suspect he’s trying to mix things up.

Thrashers leave later today for Wednesday’s game in Detroit.

EOB, I get the package straight from NHL.com, but the Detroit game was not available (they’ll make it available within 48 hours as an archived game), even though it wasn’t on VS, TSN, RSN, or CBC. I need to dig in a little more to figure out why a game like that isn’t offered (it’s happened more than once to games I wanted to see). Are there different packages and I just missed that?

For the games that are offered, I think the service works well. Haven’t used it on the road yet, but wonder if you had any trouble with it recognizing a different IP address.

I have an adapter that plugs directly into my laptop with an HDMI connector to the TV, so it’s a direct hardline in. As for other shows, we don’t watch all that much. As an example, following the end of the Stanley Cup, the next TV we watched was the Ken Burns national park documentary in Sept/Oct. For that doc, PBS made it available online for a week starting the day after it’s television premiere. Similar story for another favorite show, “24.” Fox makes it available online the day after it’s on-air date. You’d have to check the network sites for your favorite shows to see if/when they offer episodes online.

We also watch some shows on Hulu and I’ve been able to watch college football through ESPN360.

MB, I know a little trick that may or may not work with your gamecenter package. It’s borerline illegal so let me contact Chris Vivs before I post this (I know some sites prohibit posting web addresses and things of that nature that work around blackouts). I saw the Detroit game but I am away for Thanksgiving.

Hey Smoothie! Thanks for putting me right up top…I’m famous now LOL. So ya had JA over to your house for some schooling on the line formations. Ya done good, pal.

Seriously, Coach has to change the lines when they start not to work which is probably inevitable as the season goes on. The opponents either play against us or watch film on us and get a handle on out tendencies and how to defend what we do. Changing the lines scrambles those defensive plans and in turn helps get a stagnent offense going. I suspect that’s what gets it going more so than the “shake ‘em up” (the players) factor. I’ll leave when and how often to change the lines up to you ‘coaches’, hehe.

Hainsey blows ! That goal was on him. Why did Stupid Waddell waste all that money on him ? What a joke

Bud, the GameCenter Live package from NHL.com blacks out local games. I know of places where I can view streams and all, but I’d prefer to use legal channels (like GameCenter Live), as the video quality is infinitely better.

Hainsey is by far the worst defenseman on the ice. Time for press box, Ron.

Bryan Little’s confidence is shot…he doesn’t know a stick blade from his butthole right now.

Time to bench everyone but Kane, Pevs, Army, Kovy, Max and Nik. Roll 2 lines and 4 D-men: Tobes and Kubes, Bogo and Schubert. That’s it, everyone else’s lazy ass sits and stews. Eff ‘em.

Brent & Midfield, I have to disagree on that Samsonov goal. That was all Bogosian’s fault. The play started as a 2-on-2 with Hainsey and Bogosian back. But Bogosian let Erik Cole go right around him, that pulled Hainsey off of Samsonov and when Cole was allowed to pass the puck since he went right around Bogosian, Hainsey was pulled off and Samsonov was free to shoot the puck in.

Watch the replay, it will show the 2-on-2 and Cole going around Bogosian so easily that pulls Hainsey off. If played properly by Bogosian, Cole should’ve never got a shot or pass off.

Alan, it is using the real channels with the infinitely better quality, you’ll just get the blacked out games on them.

Smoothie, are you really surprised though? I mean we should never have gotten out of that 1st period against Detroit with a 1-0 lead, they dominated us that whole period. We were lucky. Tonight it was the same thing, only the bounce didn’t go our way and we are getting outworked.

Enstrom and Kubina have been incredible this period!! 3 helpers for Tobes now. And I guess Bryan Little finally had a good cry during the intermission cuz he seems freed up now.

Even I will say it was nice he scored a goal GaVaHokie but that wasn’t clutch per se, a goal in the middle of the 3rd? Little’s two assists were good, Peverley got a goal that gave us the lead. I can’t believe this team is up by a goal.

Wow, I don’t know what to say…I am absolutely dumbfounded. If this team is going to play cat and mouse with the dregs of the league all season then I’m gonna find a new team to root for…I can’t take much more of this. Talk about reversing the mojo on the Cardiac Canes. We are the Thoracic Thrashers!! Geezus H!

I feel sorry for Maurice. This may have been his last game with Carolina. Thrashers are known to kill coachs’ careers. I remember Larry Robinson and Slava Fetisov fired from New Jersey after Thrashers came back from 0:2 to win 5:2 – improbable against the tem like NJ. Tonight looked easy. Thrashers looked terrible, and the Canes looked like an AHL team in the 3rd. Well, the win’s a win. We’ll take it.

Yeah EOB, he had the sweet backhand pass to Kovy for his goal out of the slot. He set up Kane on the first with a perfect pass on the tape for the redirect and he had a secondary assist on the poke-out up the ice to Kovy who then dropped it for a streaking Afinogenov.

We can’t do this against Philly tomorrow night, even without Nittymaki now. If they do, they will have to wear the maroon jerseys in the first then swtich to the blue jerseys in the 2nd or 3rd to let us know when the other team shows up.

GaVaHokie, I was going to say I wouldn’t know who would feel like the bigger idiot – Anderson, Waddell or Pavalec if we lost 4-1 to Legace. Fortunately I will go look at the updated standings now instead :)

Kovy-Antro-Max
Armi-Pever- Kane

It worked much better. Let’ break a bad records against Phili.

Where’s Boults? It’s time for Slater to take a rest. I would have a day off for Hainsey too. He’s due. Phili’s a big team, but Ron has been way too wobbly on his skates. I’d play Popovic tomorrow.

Russian is right, keep the lines intact and ride them ponies all the way to the Breeder’s Cup…um, I mean Stanley Cup!!

Okay, a bit of hyperbole, but WTF just happened??! I still don’t know why this team must play games with my heart…cue the Backstreet Boys!

Smoothie, I was just going to say the same thing. Here’s the post I typed before hitting refresh-

Russian, I think we do have to go back to the original Russian line, not the new “ov” Russian line. Here are the lines for the 4 comeback goals tonight, goals in bold and assists in italics.

2g Koz-Ant-Lit
3g Kov-Ant-Max
4g Kov-Ant-Max
5g Kan-Pev-Lit

Perhaps:

Kov-Ant-Max
Kan-Pev-Lit
Koz-Wht-Arm

White & Kozlov both picked up points tonight too, so hopefully even that 3rd line can do something? I hope this is a sign that Little might be turning it around, he looked lost in the 1st.

Hokie, that’s 10G, 13A, for 23-points in 22 games for Finny. I have to agree with you. He’s becoming a clutch guy for Atlanta. Although, I do recall him missing a mostly open net as time was ticking down in one earlier game. But that’s now more of the “exception, than the rule” for Max Afinogenov, as a Thrasher. Let’s see, in mid-January, if he’s still being a “point-a-game” player. I think he’s got a good shot at it.

Midfield, I think Boulton was in the pressbox for this one. Here’s the boxscore. http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2009020360. It was great to get a 4-point swing on the ‘Canes tonight. I wonder what Carolina GM, Jim Rutherford, is thinking right about now? It’s never good to lose games at home. But it’s especially WORSE to lose games, AT HOME, during a HOLIDAY, when you’re the LAST PLACE team in the NHL, and you couldn’t even SALVAGE A POINT from a THREE (3) GOAL LEAD (4-1) heading into the third period. Against a division rival. Whoo-boy. Is Paul Maurice about the get the “ax?” Any moment now, Sage of Bluesland will appear to announce Paul Maurice as the next Coach the Thrashers got fired. Remember his, “The Threat is Real” T-shirts? Every time the Thrashers beat a team, and that coach subsequently got fired, he writes the Coach’s name down on the back of the shirt, adding the date of death to it. The front of the T-shirt says, “The Threat is Real.” The back of the T-shirt reads, “Lose to us … and you WILL get fired.” In fairness to the Sage, that T-shirt was born amidst the Curt Fraser era of the franchise, very early into Waddell’s Administration. Which is now in its 11th year and 10th season. Could this be the year that Waddell banks a playoff win? Even if it isn’t, he is, eventually, going to win a playoff game for this franchise. I truly believe that. When it happens, not IFF, I’ll gaze at my calendar, rub my chin, and say, “Well, I knew this day would come. I just thought it’d be a whole lot SOONER than this.” But it will, nonetheless, feel good.

Ugh, hated to miss that one…once again, unavailable through GameCenter online. Interesting that the last two away games were blocked, but tonight’s home game appears to be offered.

EOB, I believe you mentioned you’re away for the holiday, so I’m guessing you won’t be at tonight’s game…correct?
