We are settled in high above the ice about an hour before game time.
A couple of notes from last night’s game:
* Max Afinogenov extended his point streak to five games with his goal in the final seconds Saturday. He has nine points in the run – six goals and three assists.
*Rich Peverley had an assist to up his team leading total to 24 points – eight goals, 16 assists – in 19 games.
* The Thrashers hold a 28-19-10 edge in the all-time series against Tampa Bay. They are 18-6-5 at Philips Arena.
The gates are open and the crowd is starting to filter in.
Let’s get this blog posted. Perhaps I can answer some questions for the puck drops.
AJC hockey beat writer Chris Vivlamore\'s perspective on the Atlanta Thrashers.

Don’t know the goalies yet. There was no morning skate. I’m watching for them to take the ice for warmups. I imagine Pavelec for Thrashers.

Chris,
First off I would like to say great job and thank you for the work you put into these blogs. This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it is a foregone conclusion that Illya and the Thrashers will not be able to reach terms on a new contract?

It is MORE than time to break the “Nitti Curse” on this team. Thrashers need to come out strong in the 1st and take the play to the Dolts. I want to see a complete 60 minute effort from these guys tonight.

Went to the Thrashers game last night against Pittsburgh. You know I find it very very hard to believe that there are that many transplants from Pennsylania at the game. I mean I can see a little kid jumping on the bandwagon of super star player like Crosby but grown adults? WTF? If you never lived in Pittsburgh please explain to me why your a Pittsburgh fan? Just cant believe all those guys having man crushes on Crosby?

Some good back and forth. Pavelec is sharp. Made some big saves. Niittymaki not challenged as much. Good amount of action in Thrashers defensive zone, but the Thrashers had a few chances on breakaways.

Waddell says they are just starting to talk Term of deal with Kolvy’s agent. WTF! He has been in talks with the agent for 3-4 months and they are just starting to talk about term of the deal. What have the purported great discussions been about so far? The weather, or how Ilya’s car is driving?
Seriously, Chris, this is the stuff you should be asking and digging into.
As a fan, the negotiations should be how long do you want? How much? Fine, sign here. Kolvy is much too important to the franchise.
As a businessman the questions should be we can pay XXX for X years. Or YYY for Y years. We want you, if not what do you want? Does this work? Yes, sign here. No, trade him and get value while we can.
Not freakin rocket science.

There were a lot of Steeler fans at the Dome a couple of years ago when the Falcons played them. The Steelers have a ton of bandwagon fans though, even more than the Cowboys. I guess the Penguin bandwagon fans from the early 90s are back on the wagon now that they are good again. It was just a few years ago that they drew worse than the thrashers and the team was going to move.
