EOB, I missed most of the Aves-Flames game. I think Colorado won. If they did, are they the #1 team in the NHL for points?

not good, not good at all. oh, if all of our players were healthy, i say we would've had a chance in the playoffs, not to say that they aren't now, but the time that kovy and nikki are out, sadly will prob be losses.

Well, Carolina lost. And Ottawa did us a favor against Florida, with a 4-3 regulation-time win. The Leafs looked like they were about to win two in-a-row, which had H#LL scrambling to find ice and snow. But Dallas scored on a tip-in in the waning minutes. We're about 40 seconds from overtime. In case you're curious, yes the Islanders did win tonight. It was a 3-1 win over the Rangers. And Sean Avery missed a wide open net, rushing past the cage on what was tantamount to a tap-in goal.

We're in overtime, in Dallas. 3-3. Let's see if Toronto pulls off a second-straight road win.

Folks, Washington is a good team. Seriously. I think they're a Cup contender. They had last year's Stanley Cup Champions down, 2-0, in overtime of Game Three, needing just an OT winner to all but clinch the series. That's a fact, not an opinion. And the Capitals may "three-peat" atop the Southeast Division this year. I see this as an opportunity to learn. It's "litmus test" to see what this team can do ... when those expected to carry the team ... are absent.

Let's not forget something else. Washington might see this game as an opportunity to play some of its third and fourth line players more, or even start their backup goalie. Not that Varlamov is any slouch. We all saw what he did in last year's playoffs versus the Rangers and Penguins. Hopefully, the Capitals will take the T-birds LIGHTLY.

But we can't count on that. Bruce Boudreau does a good job in getting his team prepared to play. Plus, he loves to beat his buddy, John Anderson. While I'm sad to learn we may be without Antropov, too, it's hardly O-VAHHH. Bryan Little, Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane, Slava Kozlov, Ron Hainsey, Toby Enstrom ... Marty Reasoner ... and Todd White ... CAN SCORE. They can do it.

Kovy wants to see the members of this team ... PLAYING FOR EACH OTHER. This is a golden opportunity to show Kovy just that. The team has depth. The team can rise to the occasion. It's a great test before us. In my estimation, the Washington Capitals are definitely an upper echelon team in the NHL. Let's see how much better they are than the Thrashers.

Also, I'm with you Smoothie that the Kahlua line gets a ton of points on the PP. But why not just give them more PP TOI and not mess up with the current ES lines like AK-47? Especially with Kovalchuk out we can do that.

You also have to like the fact that between all the players with K or A as a last initial and all the Russians we can have lots of combos that don't effect the best current line nicknames in hockey. As long as White and Peverley are in there the names stay.

Yeah there is always the "but how will they do against the other team's top pair/top line" argument. Hopefully they step up. And/or hopefully it takes less pressure off of some of these other under-performing lines that aren't doing so well at the moment and they start to click.
