Let’s not forget something else. Washington might see this game as an opportunity to play some of its third and fourth line players more, or even start their backup goalie. Not that Varlamov is any slouch. We all saw what he did in last year’s playoffs versus the Rangers and Penguins. Hopefully, the Capitals will take the T-birds LIGHTLY.

But we can’t count on that. Bruce Boudreau does a good job in getting his team prepared to play. Plus, he loves to beat his buddy, John Anderson. While I’m sad to learn we may be without Antropov, too, it’s hardly O-VAHHH. Bryan Little, Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane, Slava Kozlov, Ron Hainsey, Toby Enstrom … Marty Reasoner … and Todd White … CAN SCORE. They can do it.

Kovy wants to see the members of this team … PLAYING FOR EACH OTHER. This is a golden opportunity to show Kovy just that. The team has depth. The team can rise to the occasion. It’s a great test before us. In my estimation, the Washington Capitals are definitely an upper echelon team in the NHL. Let’s see how much better they are than the Thrashers.

You also have to like the fact that between all the players with K or A as a last initial and all the Russians we can have lots of combos that don’t effect the best current line nicknames in hockey. As long as White and Peverley are in there the names stay.
