Kane getting in a little extra work

UPDATES IN COMMENTS:

Reporting in from Thrashers practice on a rainy Wednesday morning.

As the players take the ice, it doesn’t appear there is anything new to report.

Christoph Schubert is not on the ice. He was given a few days to return to Ottawa and get his belongings.

All the lines remain the same.

Kovy-Antropov-Little

Kozlov-White-Afinogenov

Kane-Peverley-Armstrong

Boulton-Reasoner-Slater-Thorburn

Popovic paired with Salmela on defense.

Kane was on the ice early working with assistant Randy Cunneyworth on some shooting drills. Slater and Thorburn were also on the ice early working at the other end of the rink with goalies Hedberg and Pavelec.

Team leaves after practice tomorrow for games in New Jersey on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday. I will be making the trip to Buffalo.

That’s the morning update, such as it is. I will check back after interviews with an update.

Chris, Is Schubert driving a rented truck full of stuff down from Ottawa? Hasn’t he been gone long enough to fly up and get his clothes and personal items and be back already? Then again, he was pretty well established in Ottawa so it’s not like he was living in hotel room during camp. He probably has a lot of tasks to take care of in shutting down his residence there. Sorry to ramble, I just thought he had taken care of the moving related stuff while he was getting his paperwork straightened out.

Do you think Slater will get in a game this weekend?

Good news for the Thrashers, Vanek is out for weeks for Buffalo.
I’m looking forward to watching Tyler Myers for the Sabres…should be a good weekend for Atlanta.

Sorry Spud, the game IS NOT ON TV, just like Ottawa NO TV, so nobody will see it, it is not even on CenterIce either… Go Figure…
Why are these games and a number next month, will not be televised.
That is Atlanta games, The Sharks home game is not on an upcoming Carolina game and a number of others… Esp in November.

Just check the schedule and when the TV area is blank… NO Game.

Back from practice. Just a couple of updates. Schubert is apparently still experiencing “immigration problems,” according to John Anderson. It’s been a while since he’s skated, so he could be a scratch until problems resolved and he’s back on the ice.

Boris Valabik made a locker room appearance. I talked to him for a little while. I will write a story here soon.

GaVaHokie: Thanks!

Kracker: Hope the above clarification about Schubert helps. I was surprised he wasn’t at practice today.

World Be Free: Thanks for the wings advice. I’m there. I was hoping to get a good recommendation.

All: Hope you checked out the link Former Isles Fan sent of the six-year-old reciting the Herb Brooks speech. It’s awesome. Something about a kid yelling “Screw ‘em” that makes me laugh.

Okay, since Viv game me the should out, I’ll repost the links here.

Here is the original link of Rizzo (who is actually 4 years old) doing the Herb Brooks’ pre-game “Miracle” speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CdJTfGiRCI

Here is the link to him doing the speech at the invitation of the Nashville Preds to their mascots and cheerleaders that was aired on their video screen during a stop in play: http://predators.nhl.tv/team/console

I’ve probably watched it about 10 times myself… :-)

FYI,

Kane was the last one off (albeit just a few seconds behind Bogo) of the ice today, too

Report from Buffalo is that Vanek is now likely a ‘go’ for Sat. night, and possibly even their Fri. game.

Watched the Buffalo v. Detroit game last night on VS and Buffalo was relentless and made Detroit look terrible. Thrash will have their hands full to be certain.

Hey WBF good call on Duffs. My wife is from the B-lo and my one trip there so far included Duffs on the agenda. Looking forward to the game this weekend, it always gets interesting around here when the Thrash play the Sabres.

Chris, enjoyed the Pavelec item.

WBF, do they still have “Frank and Theresa’s Anchor Bar” on Main St. in Buffalo? That’s where they told me to go for wings in Buffalo. That, or Santoras Pizza and Wings. Or something called “Bocce?” I probably massacred that spelling.

I understand that you can get the world’s best ice cream in Buffalo, too. It’s called “Perry’s Ice Cream.” Hey, no wonder it’s easy to be overweight in Buffalo. Snowed in for six months, with nothing but Pizza, Wings, and the world’s best ice cream. (When people say they ‘died and went to Heaven,’ maybe they meant eating in Buffalo, NY?) I guess the only way to take off the poundage is to walk Goat Island at Niagara Falls. Or do that 1/4 mile trek to the bottom of Whirlpool State Park, off Rt. 104, in Niagara Falls. I don’t know how late Skylon Tower is open, but having dinner there is an EXPERIENCE!! You stare directly into the HEART of the Horseshoe Falls, from the Canadian side. The view … is breathtaking. There’s a reason why it’s the Honeymoon capital of the World.

Brendan – I always found Santora’s to be a little soft. I like my wings a little crispier. The Anchor Bar is the original, so you can’t go wrong. Dive bars serve the best wings generally. Honestly, wings are just as good in Atlanta now. I prefer Taco Mac to almost anywhere. For a Buffalo original you can’t get here, go to Charlie the Butcher for a beef on weck instead. It is freshly carved roast beef on a kimmelweck roll.

I can taste the salt already, Paminski! I once went to ArtPark, and later ate a charming place in Lewiston, NY named “Amanda’s.” They had an “International Beer Night,” with FREEEEEEE all you can eat wings, with $2 beers until 9PM. The wings were so hot, you had to chug beers to put out that fire. I don’t know how Amanda survived, unless the price of beer skyrocketed after 9PM. I don’t know the area well enough to know where this place was, truthfully. All I know is … it was near Art Park, somewhere in Lewiston, probably not too far off Rt. 104. But this was an eternity ago. Place is probably closed. Man, those were tasty wings!

The best beer I had in the area was Canadian, I must confess. We went up to that Maple Leaf Village area and drank at a bar called ‘Rumours.’ Nice place, actually. Right across from “Ripley’s Believe it or Not(TM).” We stumbled back over the Rainbow bridge to the U.S., by that Rainbow Mall. I think there was a $0.50 fee to get back into the U.S., over the pedestrian bridge. The Customs Inspectors just laughed at us. “Went to go get the ‘good beer,’ didja?” I liked the Rainbow Mall. Nice foodcourt! Nice Winter Garden!
