Little wants to have better season

Back from Day 2 of Thrashers training camp and have sent two stories.

I am skipping the prospect game with Nashville today. I will stick around for Tuesday’s afternoon game.

I talked to Bryan Little for one story. He wants to improve on last season, although he wouldn’t give a number of goals he is shooting for. That would be a major plus if he scores more than 31 this year.

I also spoke with Drew MacIntyre on Sunday. I wrote that for the Tuesday paper. He was pretty candid. He said the goalie situation – even before Manny Legace arrived – made him hesitate on signing with the Thrashers. He said he would go to Chicago if sent there, but you could tell he’s had enough minor-league hockey.

I’m trying to talk to all the goalies in the next few days. There was no sign of Kari Lehtonen today.

Let me know if there is someone in particular you want me to write about or a question you want me to ask.

I will check in earlier on Tuesday.

Thanks folks.

Was wondering what the coaching staff’s plan is for Evander Kane.

Chris Vivlamore, excellent page “C-2″ in Sunday’s print edition. It’s nice to see the AJC give the Thrashers this kind of coverage. It was a great to see, as well as a good read. Well done, sir.

I now see, in the AJC Thrashers poll, that the “someone else” has now eclipsed Kari Lehtonen as the vote leader, when previously, Kari was running away with it at nearly 45-percent. That’s a heckuva lot of “change of hearts” out there. I can understand the frustration. We want a healthy and productive Kari Lehtonen all year, and we’ve yet to see it. Is it true that Kari ISN’T our #1 goalie? Our former Lottery Draft, 2nd overall pick … is no longer highly regarded? Is the “bloom off the rose” this badly?

The poll response seems to say “yes.”

Chris-I’d like to know what type of response Pavs gives you or others about going back to Chicago if he doesn’t make the team. I have to think, if he plays better than everyone else, he’ll make the opening night roster and play for a while, at least until Kari is fully healthy.

Also, Could you ask DW if he’s still working the phones for a possible deal involving a goalie and/or something else? All he said from around the trading deadline until the end of July was that they were going to package a goalie to help aquire new assets. And that was before he signed two more quality minor league goalies and now brought in Legs on a tryout. He has some options if he can find a viable trading partner.

So who’s our legit number one at the moment? Who the hell knows right now.

Viv – I triple dog dare (think the movie A Christmas Story) you to ask Kovy if he wanted the Thrashers to sign Zherdev. When he answers watch his body language. If his eyes open up and/or he has a sly smile for just a second, the answer is yes.

Legace looked pretty good in between the pipes. You dont appreciate it until you see him in person. He is unbelievably quick.

I would love to see a feature on Marty Reasoner and get his take on the “new” Thrashers and what he expects from the team this year. He seems like a really personable guy and I wonder if the ASG will utilize Marty a bit more when it comes to PR work, advertising and the like. But then again, I have a man-crush on Marty the Party.

I would be curious to hear from Joey Crabb to find out what JA and the coaches told him he needed to work on in order to crack the line-up this season. Obviously, they like his speed and grit, but I’m wondering if he feels like he has a good shot at fulfilling expectations in camp.

Thanks Viv for all of the recent articles / quotes and blogs…keep ‘em coming. And enjoy all of the spirited action today (if they’ve got anything left after last night) between the Preds and Thrash prospects!

If Kari is not ready opening night, it will be Manny. Detroit had him didn’t they? Are they not the top orgin-I-zation in the NHL? Where are the redwing fans to shed some light on him?
