If we're going to "give away draft picks," which the last time I checked was our market's only salvation left, then we've got to lockup the player for 4-5 years. Is Kessel amenable to that? If not, then no.

As optimistic as I am about the upcoming season, "what if scenarios" still play through my mind. "What if" Kovalchuk doesn't re-sign? "What if" Kovalchuk's contract is a constant source of distraction throughout the season? Technically, the following players are NOT under contract for the 2010-11 season: Kovalchuk (UFA), Kozlov (UFA), Little (RFA), Pavelec (RFA), Kubina (UFA), C. Armstrong (UFA), Lehtonen (RFA), etc., etc. Which sets up the biggest "what if" question ... "What if the wheels far off?" I don't even think John Anderson and Don Waddell are necessarily locked up past season's end. Not that I'm angry about it. If we go grab Kessel, and our pick is a lottery draft finish, we could be a whole lotta sorry.

Thrashers will continue to finish 1,2,3 in the draft if they don't make aggressive moves for guys like Kessel... at some point, you have to stack the shelf and go for broke.

LAC... I disagree on the scoring... we were 9th in the league in scoring... team defense is the problem.

Hate to disagree guys, but I do not believe Kessel is worth an offer sheet. He's not worth 1,2 and 3, especially where the Thrashers have a tendency to finish most seasons. He just doesn't do that much for me as a player.

Kovy asked for Kubina as well as Arthropod. Besides Z and Satan, there may be an unnamed forward waiting...Evander should play the minimum and go back down for a year. It's all going down in the next couple of days...

This has NOT been a busy summer for loser waddell, what a trade, and one UFA signing and a few resigns that were going to happen anyhow ????

Busy ? NO WAY, a summer of: well we did a little bit to make it look good, but not nearly enough to compete for the playoffs.

We need more scoring and another SOLID Defensemen... But nothing has been done and all we continue to hear is more babbling BS from don waddell... Looks like another losing season for the King of Losers don waddell, when will we get a Solid GM here to turn things around ?

Several choices still out there, but will anything be done, NO !

Well maybe 80 points, but again NO playoffs for sure, not enough change, and more jim slater, which is a BIG mistake !

I'd be fine making Kessel an offersheet and losing next years 1st round pick... if you're planning to be a big contender this year, then you should only consider you're giving up a #15-30 pick. I'd say it's worth it for a proven Top 10 prospect.

Sara... agreed... but what do you do with MacIntyre and Mannino? Both of those guys go from fighting for a roster spot to playing in Gwinnett?! Seems unlikely to me.

Hokie - if the overall plan is to continue one more season with Kari and Moose as our starter and back-up, then signing Legace as depth and putting him Chicago could really be of benefit to Pavelec (and the organization). It gives Pavs a mentor who has solid work ethic, who has been on good teams and bad, and who really understands the NHL. Moreover, Legace got held back for years in Detroit - so I'm sure he can understand what Ondrej is feeling. Legace rose above it - maybe he can teach Pavs the same thing.
