Armstrong to play for Canada

The latest addition the list of Thrashers players going to Switzerland for the World Championships: Colby Armstrong. Armstrong has done this before. He scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game in 2007 for Canada.

Other Thrashers in the tournament include Ilya Kovalchuk of Russia, U.S. player Zach Bogosian and Ron Hainsey, Tobias Enstrom with Sweden and Boris Valabik with Slovakia.

The players had their final meetings with the coaches today. Hainsey, Enstrom, Kovalchuk, Armstrong, Slava Kozlov and Anssi Salmela skated, too. I will have a little more later. I’m writing a summer look-ahead story.

Thanks for the tidbit on Nikulin, Russian. He may be our defensive answer? Tell us more if you hear if he wants to play in the NHL.

Does anyone know if the lottery will be streamed? Oddly enough they don’t offer Versus on my local cable provider…

Ranallo… it’s going to be streamed on NHL.com at 8pm

They have some interesting clips on there to keep you busy… Prospect video’s for the Top 5 ranked players… draft philosophies from Waddell, Burke and Chiarelli, etc.

Another thanks to everyone. Wish I could give a definitive answer to the Kozlov-Team Russia question. The only thing I can say is I don’t know if he was asked. He’s the one player I missed on Monday when I was at the IceForum.

Give Ben Wright of the Thrashers’ Web site credit for asking the question of Kovalchuk about recruiting free agents. Ben does a strong job and is one of the good guys in the business.

Hokie, I don’t have many ideas for making trades at the draft this year. I mostly just want Waddell to handle the many, many internal contract decisions that the organization must make. Now, Waddell did hint about trading a goalie. I hope that isn’t true. #1, because I think we should keep the two we’ve got. And #2, the trade market for goalies isn’t good. Ask Ranallo10(in AT). I don’t think Kari or Ondrej will fetch enough to be worth losing them. And when I say that in reference to Pavelec, I mean when he’s 24. He could be fantastic. And Kari, let’s face it, hasn’t hit his PRIME. If healthy, the huge ifff, he can be an upper echelon goalie. He just needs the defense in front of him.

If it’s true that Mike Cammalleri isn’t staying in Calgary, I’d sure like to pluck him from free agency. I can’t see how he and Kovalchuk could possibly fail.

Islanders just won the lottery draft. TB is #2. Colorado is #3. Atlanta is #4. You know the rest.

Well… we’ll get either Duchene, Svennson or Kane… not bad.

I think Duchene will go to Colorado… seems to be a “Doughty loves the Kings” situation. In Duchene’s video clip, he’s wearing Avalanche jerseys, has Avalanche stuff all over his wall, etc.

So, the question is… Kane or Svensson?
